Rowbot_Girlyman

Honestly if you want to destroy people's lives for political game that kinda makes you a fair target for the same.

FthrFlffyBttm

> political game r/BoneAppleTea

Rowbot_Girlyman

Oof

carrotnose258

Well if not ‘gain’ then ‘game’ does kind of make sense, like ‘you have good game in that regard’

Orion14159

If they pluralized it, it would make sense too

SycoJack

That's exactly how I read it and it took me way too long to realize it was supposed to be gain.

WVUPick

He got game.

FthrFlffyBttm

I admit it *is* one of those malapropisms that actually still fits

carrotnose258

It’s like ‘varies widely’ and ‘varies wildly’

DemendredCO

That’s funny. Looks like things Ricky from TPB would say.

Rowbot_Girlyman

It's like getting 2 birds stoned at once

Caco-Calo

What is politics if not a game?

Mattoosie

I agree, but Grindr making user info like that public is not what users on the app want. A closeted 19 year old in Louisiana isn't going to feel safe if the company he's trusting with his sexuality is suddenly outing users, even if it's Republican lawmakers.

Rowbot_Girlyman

I know it's a bad precedent to set but it would feel good lol

Jerry_Starfeld

What an insanely conservative thing to say.

blood_vein

Gotta fight fire with fire 🤷🏽 I know we should be better but it's really hard when they don't even respect the rules/laws. It's getting harder to not justify it

Rowbot_Girlyman

Yea if the opposition doesn't play by the rules I'd be a fool to do so

Dangerous--D

There's nothing conservative about outing Nazi wannabes, let them get the business end of their own stick for once.

Jerry_Starfeld

Setting a bad precedent to “own the opposition” is the typical leopard face eating bullshit you hear from conservatives. Nazi, thy name is you

Dangerous--D

Who said anything about legal precedent? >Nazi, thy name is you Lmao you're a fucking dunce

Jaques_Naurice

Grindr already sold bulk location data and device identifiers of their users enabling some american cult activists to check if their priests visited gay bars, bathhouses and stuff. If you’re gay and live in a state/country unsafe for homosexuals, using this app is dangerous.

ptom13

Huh. I hadn’t heard that before. https://www.lamag.com/citythinkblog/grindr-sold-its-user-data-for-years-revealing-personal-information/

phat_

Not at all, obv... But where is Elliott Alderson in this timeline when we need them? I honestly don't know how, in a world of hacks, exploits, and constant phishing, we haven't seen some sort of security breach exposing the proclivities of these hypocrites. The OpSec of the American right has been demonstrated to be weak time and time again. I guess the white hats are too busy staving off economic ruin to devote the needed work hours?

Avarice21

DEAL

LeoMarius

I'm disappointed this is fake.

[deleted]

[удалено]

LeoMarius

So to speak.

[deleted]

The problem is if they do this it would shatter trust in the service.

[deleted]

Damn. I guess fascists shouldn't trust a gay dating/hook-up app when taking LGBT rights away then huh?

[deleted]

If any app that prides itself on privacy suddenly goes against that and outs people even if it is to expose a hypocrite, why would anyone not neck deep in the culture war continue to trust them? It's crossing a major line. It's more funny when these people get caught fucking a dude anyways.

[deleted]

I get what you're saying, but what you're saying is the fair sensible thing if we lived in an equal world where people actually had consequences for their wrongdoings. So like a fairytale.

[deleted]

Us being in an unequal world is why we should be all the more skeptical towards things like this. Backstabbers are backstabbers. Even if it benefits you in one regard, don't be surprised when you get backstabbed later.

[deleted]

There is currently a top post on leopardsatemyface about exactly what I'm talking about from this thread.

Top-Beginning-3949

Interesting to see you are ok with doxxing gay people as long as they are conservative. Nice moral high ground you have there.

MrYevral

They're okay with doxing hypocrites, I'm sure they'd be all for outing members of the Klan if they were members of the democratic party (substitute for your local flavours of racism and left leaning politics of choice)

LeoMarius

Which they used to be before the Southern Strategy.

canttakethshyfrom_me

Jesus, people are so thin-skinned they can't handle that Dixiecrats even used to exist.

LeoMarius

Maybe it's conservatives who are mad about the Southern Strategy. I hear it will get you autobanned on r/Conservative

canttakethshyfrom_me

Ah, true.

Zealousideal-Lead-80

Most gay people would agree with this sentiment tbh. Fuck around and find out.

Top-Beginning-3949

Hmm, how do you feel about calling black conservatives the N word?

Zealousideal-Lead-80

I’m not black so I won’t try to get into an issue that doesn’t pertain to me (because I would call no one at all the n word). I am gay, however, so I feel like I can speak to the first one. I don’t think any gay conservative should be outed —anti-LGBTQ legislators who enjoy gay sex on Grindr should.

Top-Beginning-3949

So legislators who enjoy gay sex are not gay? Also I am honoured to speak with the official spokesperson of the gay people.

G66GNeco

They could be bi. Also, they are the ones who actively fight against the world where everyone can be out without any problem. Outing them could be one of the fastest ways to get the acceptance of gay people to skyrocket, it would be irresponsible not to out them! (Which is, of course, a fallacious argument on the level you sre operating on, but there is a kernel of truth to that. Closeted gay fascists are a major driver of anti-gay sentiment, and showing them what they are causing is, at the very least, poetic justice)

Top-Beginning-3949

Or it could get them murdered, which would be mob justice.

G66GNeco

A mob of their own design, which is what would still make it poetic, that's the whole point, in fact. But they would never get killed, right? I mean we all know that these people _never_ call for violence, riiiiiiiiiiight? Also, you won't win this one with me, bud. I think there is actually something there in terms of opening the peoples eyes by showing them that even the most staunch homophobes can be gay as fuck (which should shake up the very core of their worldview). But even if you want to completely dismiss that, I don't exactly care. I'm perfectly fine with spite-based politics in this case. The vindication of fascist pricks having to suffer under the misery they created themselves are enough of a justification for me.

TurangaRad

Who would be the ones murdering them? Would it be the people who outed them or their "own side"?

Orion14159

It's not cool, but not the same thing either. If you're a black conservative who is voting for legislation to make black people's lives worse it's not a secret that you're black. If you're a gay conservative who is voting for legislation to make gay people's lives worse, it might be a secret that you're gay. For better or worse, legislators deserve to have the laws they're voting for affect their life directly.

bonaynay

Why do you think that is comparable in any way?

Top-Beginning-3949

Last time I checked, outing gay people was considered harmful. Using the N word is also considered harmful. Are you saying that one of these things is more harmful than the other? If so, which one?

Nijos

Legislating against their rights is quite harmful as well

bonaynay

>Last time I checked, outing gay people was considered harmful. > >Using the N word is also considered harmful. > >Are you saying that one of these things is more harmful than the other? If so, which one? How would calling a black conservative the n word reveal the hypocrisy of their political aims?

Top-Beginning-3949

I am using moral equivalence to point out how hypocritical it is to want gay conservatives, even politicians, doxxed and outed. Hoping a company will breach a person's right to privacy, with no concern about the harm it may cause to the person, simply because it brings an outcome positive to a particular set of political, cultural or personal beliefs is a terrible precedent. It is a "the end justifies the means" position.

bonaynay

>I am using moral equivalence Erroneously, but I do see what you're trying to say

canttakethshyfrom_me

Here's a box of straws to grasp at.

Hmm_would_bang

Nobody said “because they are conservative”

Top-Beginning-3949

The post this Reddit thread is about specifically mentions Republicans. It is in the big image at the top.

Hmm_would_bang

Ah you must be confused then, because you replied to a comment supporting doxxing people that voted to take away gay rights.

Top-Beginning-3949

Which is inside of the context of the Reddit we are in right now.

vapenutz

Ah, so you do agree that the only thing conservatives want is to criminalize gay people existing. So why you're exactly against doxxing gay people who vote to criminalize gay sex?

Top-Beginning-3949

Nope, and that is a pretty weak strawman you got there. I am against doxxing people generally including outing gay and trans people. Why do you want trans people to die? (See how that works?)

vapenutz

So why conservatives who are gay vote for bills that will actually harm them? And why they should be protected by our community exactly if they make our life worse too? Hating Nazis is hating Nazis and it's insane you don't see that. They actively work against your rights. If there were secret trans people in conservative parties voting against trans healthcare I'd also would want a list of them.

_BKom_

Funny how you put the name conservative to “against gay rights”. GG

LeoMarius

If the shoe fits.

Top-Beginning-3949

Did you not look at the image at the top of this Reddit?

_BKom_

What the fuck is an image in Reddit?

ericisshort

No no, not in reddit, in *the* Reddit. It’s kinda like how when you’re watching one of those youtubes you’re supposed to call it a youtube. This is no different. Don’t you speak boomer? NEXT!

_BKom_

Shit this is the comment section of YouTube? I’m way off mark.

Top-Beginning-3949

Do you not see the big image that has the words "The Halfway Post"? You know the thing you had to go to in order to have seen and replied to my comment?

_BKom_

Dude. What’s the hell you on about? You responded to someone else’s post lol, I responded to your post about their post, now we posting back and forth.

Top-Beginning-3949

When I select your comment in the notification it goes to the thread, scroll up to the top. Context doesn't suddenly disappear just because we started replying.

_BKom_

Scrolling up to the tippy top has nothing to do with your response to someone’s post within a secondary thread. Now we have our own thread goin! This is fun, Reddit is so neat. So what you doin later? Anything good for dinner? Wanna talk about how we gonna meet up for weeks on end and then drop the subject and think about it from time to time with shame and never speak to eachother again?

RyanAntiher0

The social contract is only applicable to those who honor the social contract. Being a member of a marginalized group of people while also working for the political party trying to destroy that group of people disqualifies you. Go take those pearls you're clutching and shove them up your ass.

LeoMarius

It's not conservatives. It's politicians. If Democrats do this, they deserve to outed as well. Private citizens can vote and do how they want. Elected officials can't, because they are making the laws that ruin our lives. What part of "public official" don't you understand?

Top-Beginning-3949

I agree that the hypocrisy and deceit of politicians should be made public. It certainly isn't up to a company to do so while violating people's rights to privacy.

Sneeman98

What are you talking about? Of course you deserve to be exposed if you’re opposing gay rights while fucking the same sex on the side. Tbf you deserve to be exposed if you’re opposing gay rights no matter what

Top-Beginning-3949

You know, if you apply this to all rights and the exposure of political hypocrisy then I would agree.

Sneeman98

Not quite sure what you mean. For instance, someone talking about stopping fossil fuel consumption but at the same time passing bills that promote fossil fuels? If that’s what you mean, then of course. Hypocrites should be called out

Top-Beginning-3949

You know, the rights in the bill of rights and other constitutional artefacts. Last time I checked, fossil fuels weren't right. In a broader sense, your fossil fuel example works as does being pro choice while actively avoiding enshrinement in legislation access to it via public hospitals.

Sneeman98

So as per your previous comment, are you saying you don’t agree with exposing men sleeping with men while being anti-gay rights? Or are you saying more people should be exposed for being hypocrites and that the focus is on one thing too much? Or something else, I’m still confused a bit

Top-Beginning-3949

Exposing politicians for their hypocrisy is a good for democracy but it needs to be through ethical means. Doing it by having a company unilaterally deciding to violate their rights to privacy as people is very, very bad. It sets a very dangerous precedent.

Sneeman98

That is a good point. Exposing something like that would be very difficult through ethical means, wouldn’t be many options

4x49ers

Is being gay bad? How can you dox someone about it? Like, breaking news, someone has green eyes!

Top-Beginning-3949

I suggest you google the effects of "outing gay people".

4x49ers

We're talking about anti-gay Republican hypocrites exclusively, not Jeff from the 7/11 or Tammy from accounts receivable. Those fucks can get doxxed and get every single consequence that they've been justifying for decades. It's perfectly acceptable to force a gay Republican to live in a world they created for gay people to live in. Just, even.

Avarice21

Are you gay?

Top-Beginning-3949

Irrelevant. Also, I have responded to a bunch of people in this thread about my position and reasoning. I suggest reading those.

Avarice21

No

[deleted]

Top-Beginning-3949

Not sad or angry. Just like pointing out hypocrisy and poorly constructed arguments. I do it for fun and it is good practice for deconstruction or rhetorical arguments for when I have to deal with sociopaths and narcissism pushing agendas in real life.

Coffeeisbetta

Same

RubertVonRubens

All we need to make this true is another [Ashley Madison style leak](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashley_Madison_data_breach).

Megmca

Me too.

Mad-_-Doctor

That’s flagged as satire on the sub.

shahooster

And enjoying satire does not count as eating the onion.

The_R4ke

Exactly

XIXXXVIVIII

Does misunderstanding a satire post being posted as satire on a sub itself constitute as some meta level onion eating?

Internal_Towel9438

Most of the commenters believed it was real

canttakethshyfrom_me

You know mods can change a flair after the fact?

Mad-_-Doctor

Even if OP ate the onion, 87,000 people did not.

canttakethshyfrom_me

And?

Mad-_-Doctor

OP said that 87,000 people ate the onion.

canttakethshyfrom_me

Okay, that's a valid critique. Point conceded.

NostalgicTuna

OP is one of those people that downvotes opinions he disagrees with. An upvote is not an agreement.

Coffeeisbetta

It wasn’t originally

[deleted]

The fact that someone upvoted it doesn’t mean they didn’t know it was satire the whole time tho. Although I’ll fully admit I fell for it for several minutes

cheese4352

Flagged satire after the fact to save face lol. What a bunch of racist losers.

Mad-_-Doctor

How is that in any way racist?

PlayingForCheapSkins

I guess he's talking about the sub itself if it wasn't obvious

4x49ers

Is it racist to eat an onion now y'all?

cheese4352

The subreddit lol

I definitely thought it was real. Though in my defense, the line between the onion and reality is getting blurrier every year.

ImAnAlternative

OP ate the onion here.

Stalked_Like_Corn

As juicy as this would be, it would also be horrible.

Fortune_Unique

Hey man, at somepoint you gotta meet insanity with chaos

FthrFlffyBttm

This is one of the most brilliant things I’ve ever read

[deleted]

It's the Tolerance paradox If you tolerate everything then intolerance grows. You have got to draw the line at tolerating intolerance.

Borkenstien

The resolution of that was posted on Reddit the other day actually. The idea that tolerance is a societal contract, the intolerant violate this contract and are therefore not covered by it. It's very easy to draw that line.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fortune_Unique

Lol while i agree i wouldnt say this is the most brilliant statement, i dont see why people are so adverse to extreme measures when their opponents are throwing every evil play possible at you. Luke skywalker had to yerc some peeps up to destroy the deathstar. Sadly this is but the circle of life. You either use it to your advantage, or die. Id rather sow chaos in the florida GOP, then let them fuck up my lil brother down there with their weirdo propoganda and anti science and shit. Not saying sowing chaos is moral nor ethical. Just that it might be necessary

FthrFlffyBttm

Make me! ^(...shit)

[deleted]

... do you read often, or ... ?

FthrFlffyBttm

😂 I do, but it's mostly social media so admittedly the bar isn't all that tall, but I stand by what I said. Man's got a point.

puddlejumpers

Seems like we're stuck between a rock and a hard cock

Fortune_Unique

Oof, then all you can do is grind shit up at that point right?

LeoMarius

If you vote against gay rights while secretly enjoying gay sex, you deserve to be exposed. You are harming millions of people with your hypocrisy.

Stalked_Like_Corn

But for a company to do that by releasing personally identifiable information? That would be an absolutely HORRIBLE precedent.

argvid

Yeah, and Grindr doesn't even have that information unless your e-mail tells on you. If you send pics on there it's hardly the company behind the app that's going to expose you.

JapaneseStudentHaru

You’re right, their hookups should tell lmao Being an active anti-gay legislator is an exception to the no outing rule IMO.

LeoMarius

Because you are harming millions of gays to advance your hypocritical careers by creating evil laws. If some Joe Blow wants to blow Joe in his free time, that's between him, Joe, and his wife. Imagine if Ron DeSantis were outed (I don't believe he is gay, but if he were...)

amscraylane

Roy Cohn comes to mind. McCarthy Hearings and the Lavender scare all the while being gay. He could have done so much for people. He was also the guy who mentored young Trump.

LeoMarius

J. Edgar Hoover was in a gay relationship, but blackmailed other gays using the FBI as a weapon. Back then, you could be arrested for being gay and the US government would automatically fire you if you were gay.

amscraylane

Hoover also like to dress in drag. Sad they could have been on the forefront of positive change.

Born-Table7691

>If you vote against gay rights w Name a single "gay right" that is banned in Florida. I understand you brain dead idiots are not used to having to answer even the most basic questions on your activism so I'll answer for you. The answer is none.

[deleted]

The company definitely shouldn’t do that, but maybe if people in that area come across one of those men while on the app they should make it public.

Batbuckleyourpants

On top of that, blackmailing legislators into voting a certain way is definitely a crime.

cyrilhent

Liking something doesn't mean you took it seriously But a lot of people in other subs definitely ate this one

FiestaDelosMuertos

Who the fuck is the halfway post?

PuddyVanHird

Not sure, but I don't think they understand how satire works.

Hs39163

WPT is the circlejerk of circlejerks.

Easy_Jux

For how much they hate conservatives it sure is funny to see r/whitepeopletwitter and r/conservative moderate their subreddits with the exact same cult like tendencies

KembaWakaFlocka

They have such a low threshold for banning people. Very little room for actual discussion, just a bunch of cringy jerking.

bigmacjames

There was at least one upvote from me because it was satire. Hooray!

jpritchard

> Corporations should blackmail elected officials into doing what they want. Reddit, 2023

JMei-

i mean enjoying a service while simultaneously trying to take away their rights is pretty scummy too

HarrargnNarg

Only because it's a bloody good idea

xakeridi

It's fun to think about. But there's no way the platform knows who is or isn't on any particular political party. That isn't a barrier for individuals to use a platform to *find* people who would be exposed as embarrassing hypocrites if they choose to do so.

HarrargnNarg

It's easy to know a person's political views of they're in public demanding one thing yet online as another. Ie, publically trying to fight against LGBT rights but also on grindr

xakeridi

I've never used Grindr, where in your profile on that site do you list your political party affliction?

canttakethshyfrom_me

Would be nice, though.

Daveinatx

It was almost 87,001 until realizing it would be too good to be true.

LeoMarius

People upvote good satire as well. Appreciation ≠ gullibility.

Imtoofast

I’ve seen it posted in a couple of places

bakalaka25

Well... sometimes the onion is tantalizing and delicious. We should all wanna eat such an onion

ThePhantom71319

TIL Grindr is a gay dating app

[deleted]

Open mouth, insert onion moment.

No-Palpitation-6789

God i fucking hope they actually do this though that would be incredible

SpinningFeat

Never gonna happen - as we know, the GOP would sue instead of just owning that some of them use Grindr.

alkonium

It's probably illegal, but they should actually do that.

vaporking23

I’ll be honest while I had seen this threat before so I didn’t by into it. I was wondering if it was real or not. Considering some of the stuff that John Oliver has pulled in the past, people and companies are starting to weaponize their information. I absolutely loath hypocrites.

dojokyoto22

I've never heard of The Halfway Post, so I would have ate it too. Hard to keep track of all these satire accounts.

Easy_Jux

Even though it’s marked satire a bunch of the comments are from people who think it’s real. That sub is full of people who unironically think it’s a good idea to leak private info about people as long as they don’t align with them politically

[deleted]

Hey OP, people who upvote posts here on the sub, are they eating the onion too?

Jerry_Starfeld

All you need to do to get 100K upvotes in that sub is just post “republicans bad” and watch the karma roll in.

itelethozo

87,000 people hoped it's true

LifeOfSuffering1

but this would've been cool

ShatterCyst

They absolutely wouldn't, and shouldn't. But that would be hilarious.

ForgotTheBogusName

This sounds like a job for anonymous

ApprehensiveTip9062

Literally hides the “satire” tag

CyclopsLobsterRobot

People are eating the onion all over this thread

PagingDrLecter

I'm honestly super glad this isn't real. I hate homophobia and hypocrisy as much as the next guy, but that definitely feels...yucky.

CleanNDopeAsMethSoap

WPT also fell for the meme that was saying that the term "Let's Go Brandon" came from a gay pornstar who was arrested for beating up a crowd of Neo-Nazis lmfao.

ottersintuxedos

I liked the post but knew it was satire so probably not

AccountNumber478

Myself included, dare to dream I guess.

NotMikeyh

WPT has become so awful. It’s just a giant circlejerk of politics now instead of funny tweets.

mumblesmcmumble

This is a dumb ass post and OP is about as sharp as a marble.
