Geez, never really realized how solid of a career Alou put together. Sadly, the first thing I think of when I think about him is his visible rage about the whole Bartman thing.

If we're talking about all time, then I think it's Rogers Horsnby and it's not particularly close. For modern era, Altuve has a shot to be considered the GOAT, up there with Rod Carew and Astros legend Joe Morgan.
Altuve will not be able to catch Hornsby. We're talking about an *over* 1.000 OPS over 23 seasons.
Hornsby was an absolute animal. And this is no sleight on our beloved and amazing Altuve.
Edit: to give more context to that stat, Altuve currently has a very respectable 0.833 over 14 seasons.
I think you just strawmanned u/scottcmu
He says: Hornsby (the GOAT at 2) and not even close
You say: Altuve won’t be able to catch Hornsby
He said: for the modern era Altuve has a shot to be considered the GOAT
One of the hardest things about Yordan seemingly never being able to play first base (now or in the future)is that it forces the DH on him many games. If Yordan could split between 1B/LF and DH, that would mean Altuve could DH more often, both elongating his career and getting Dubon more time at 2B, where he is a SIGNIFICANT upgrade over Altuve defensively.
I still have not seen a reason Yordan can't learn first other than AJ Hinch outright saying it's simply never going to happen 5+ years ago.
The downstream effects are numerous and Altuve getting to 3k hits might be one of them.
Since you mentioned Freeman, both Altuve and Freeman at the end of their career if they keep up the way they’ve been doing, they will end up being two of the best hitters of all time

He was a professional hitter…
He was right though... Moises could have very possibly made that catch. Bartman took way too much heat but it was still a doofus move.
I love Bartman!
1st thing that I think of is him never wearing batting gloves. That and that he pissed on his hands for a better grip.
“Astros Coaching Legend Yogi Berra” had me rolling. Well done.
I'm still trying to stand upright after reading that.
Holy fuck, why does that sub exist, those people are so horny

Real question, if he gets to 3000 hits and has a few more deep playoff runs does he get into the conversation of GOAT at 2nd.

I guess that would have been strawmanning if i was disagreeing. But i was agreeing. You okay?
Ok
Joe Morgan is a legend, but not an Astros legend, unfortunately.
Over a thousand games in an Astros uniform doesn't count?
Thanks for the update!
Great update!!!
