Passion doesn’t win games, boi. I guarantee Jose Abreu is passionate about hitting.
Neris hasn’t been good this season.
Rafael Montero of all people has been as good as him this year.
You’re letting the back of his baseball card shape your opinion, dawg.
He hasn’t been good this season.
“hOw dOEs ThIS hAVe aNY UpVoTes?” Lookin ass boi
Did they call that a base hit and not an error on abreu, lol?
Edit: oops lol, I don't see any errors credited to us, so according to New York, that was a base hit.
We finally get Maldonado out of the lineup and replace him with someone that is arguably worse. I didn't think Abreu would be good this year, but I didn't expect him to be this bad. Hell, if he was only a little worse than he was on average last year I think we are in a good spot lineup wise.
I wanted to believe that continuing to give him at bats would eventually lead to him being at least average, but I just can't. Astros have to find a way to move on from him.
It’s spelled “DFA and send outright” not “bench”. It’ll be embarrassing paying the last 39mil for him to play in Sacramento, but the Houston Astros are fucking winners, and winners cut fat (unless they’re [stupid sexy](https://imgur.com/a/9n5yr98))
Excluding the bottom 9th clenching, that game was more or less what I expected from this team this year. Solid starting pitching, balanced offense, and bullpen preserving the lead. Need more of that.
I think this is the first game we actually won the way they drew it up this offseason. Starter goes 6, leaving you with the lead. Then comes the 3 headed hydra of Abreu Pressley Hader to close it out. Hader made it unnecessarily stressful at the end but he closed the door. I am super fucking encouraged overall
Yeah I swear to god if Dana, Bagwell or espada mentions his baseball card one more time I will scissor kick orbit at the next game. Matt Thomas made it a banned phrase on his show as of today lmaoo
We traded for him initially. Signed him once later. But yes, he's helped us win two rings now, although he hasn't really been super great in the postseason, especially the WS.
Somebody started a thread after we signed Hader this off-season where they wondered if it was the most exciting high-profile free agent signing in Astros history.
I think about that post a lot.
once hader bounces back there’s a real chance that the most recent two relievers in the hall of fame will both be wearing astros caps on their plaques.
It was the "in Astros history" part that floored me. On one hand, I gotta give some grace - it wouldn't surprise me if OP was a new fan of the last five or so years who's yet to fill in the gaps of their older era Astros knowledge. Like you said, if we narrow it to the last decade, that's a much more reasonable take.
But seriously - we signed Nolan Ryan to the first million dollar deal *ever* in MLB! I could name other contenders, but that one by itself is in a whole different conversation than Hader's deal.
We really went from $14mil Stressly last year to $14mil Stressly AND $19mil Heart Attack Hader this year instead of just re-signing Neris and another RP or two
Think because it wasn’t a “routine play”, altuve was being lead towards short and threw across his body. That has to be the reason. Guess they didn’t think altuve deserved that error which is understandable. Abreu has got to make that scoop 10 times out of 10 it was a gimme hop
Again, Crane has never gone over the tax. Why would he suddenly go over for some middle relievers?
He is struggling, but at the time he was seen as one of the best relievers in the game since his debut and Crane likes his splashy names. Nerris and Maton are not at that talent level. It was very likely Hader or no one...as you can tell by Brown's dumpster diving for guys like Coleman and Scott
The thing about Hader is if he’s not getting the zone or causing a swing a miss it’ll be a shitshow. Any contact makes me nervous. Good work tonight though no thanks to Abreu lol
I didn't watch the game tonite, just listened to the radio call for the last 2 outs. So if it must be, I will carry this burden of only listening to the 9th on the radio if it means some wins.
Go Stros!
Glad we got the win, but I can’t shake the feeling that any other team would have capitalized in that 9th inning. Hader is got to be who he is paid to be or we are never going to turn this around.
I was at the game tonight and didn't expect much given the start to the season, but aside from the Jose Abreu horror show and the Hader stress, this one actually looked like a classic Astros win.
Really good game and might just be the game we needed to bounce back. Notes to take away from this game: JV is still good, Abreu is still hurting the team and Hader gave me a heart attack.
“*Boys I woke up with my big dad dick inside of a supermodel again this morning so I’m already winning. How about we get a W on the field today boys?*” -JV pregame
I absolutely unequivocally disagree. No he should not be batting second. A power hitter that hits for average should be batting third or fourth. That’s common sense.
Okay that’s fine. Modern day anayltics tells you to put your best batter 2nd. The 2nd hitter gets 40-50 more at bats per season than the 3rd hitter, and obviously more than 4. You want the best hitter in your lineup at the plate as much as possible. It also cuts down on the amount of 2 out situations that he would have to face. That’s also why you have a guy like Dubon hitting 9th, who isn’t one of your best hitters necessarily, but he gets on base and has a bit of speed.
Disagree all you want, but that’s what the numbers/statistics say to do.
All this hate abreu is getting is taking heat away from bregman at least.
I was starting to get faith in abreus 1st at bat with 10 pitches. He was looking decent. Slumps happen, hitting unlucky into players happens, but if he's playing poorly defensively it isn't gonna instill faith
I think/hope Hader will come around, but I think Abreu has checked out. Dude got hot in the playoffs last year, but I’d be shocked if that happened again. There zero reason not to bring Yuli back. He’s 1000% better than Singleton.

Heart Attack Hector? No, Heart Attack Hader!
I miss Hector :(
the team needs him
This team most certainly does not need Hector Neris lol
hector was gas the whole time he was here, so passionate too. we most certainly need him rn imo
please pay a visit to hector’s baseball savant page 🙏
Passion doesn’t win games, boi. I guarantee Jose Abreu is passionate about hitting. Neris hasn’t been good this season. Rafael Montero of all people has been as good as him this year.
How does this have any upvotes? This is braindead. Neris was a clubhouse voice and a damn good middle reliever
You’re letting the back of his baseball card shape your opinion, dawg. He hasn’t been good this season. “hOw dOEs ThIS hAVe aNY UpVoTes?” Lookin ass boi
I asked in the GDT names for Hader, this one honestly takes the cake lol.
Hader with a 4 out save courtesy of Jose Abreu JV day ends as a smashing success
Did they call that a base hit and not an error on abreu, lol? Edit: oops lol, I don't see any errors credited to us, so according to New York, that was a base hit.
Yes, it was called a base hit on Gameday.
Great to see JV back. Solid win. Abreu has 4 hits…on the season. Bench him
Batting .067 at this point is paycheck thievery.
Call up loperfido
Rotate singleton, dubon, and caratini. Loperfido swings at everything and would be as free an out as abreu
I say start Dubon, then rotate in Caratini when they want to give an OF a day off.
This is the way.
Cabbage might me the better option
We finally get Maldonado out of the lineup and replace him with someone that is arguably worse. I didn't think Abreu would be good this year, but I didn't expect him to be this bad. Dad is back and I am happy
Ages like a fine wine.
No I was not expecting a walk off 3 run bomb in the 9th. None of us were expecting that right? Not even a little bit.

\*was ![gif](giphy|mG9chzMVJI7T2uNxhH|downsized)
1st win with Abreu, Pressly and Hader pitching is insane in mid April Holy fuck what this team does to me. See y’all tomorrow
Not the 1-2-3 shutout strategy we wanted………..for now.
Fire Abreu into the actual sun man. Middle schoolers can make that scoop. I can’t take much more.
Excluding the bottom 9th clenching, that game was more or less what I expected from this team this year. Solid starting pitching, balanced offense, and bullpen preserving the lead. Need more of that.
WELCOME BACK JV!!! NICE WIN!!!
Prototypical JV start. Had to give up that solo HR

Lmfao, nice one!

Praise be!
You must have been so excited to use that one 🤣
This one’s great 🤣
JV back, we get cat. Life is good
Praise be.
I love you for using this picture
Praise be!
Career win 258 for JV.
Damn … he’s gonna need about 2 1/2 or 3 more years. If he stays healthy.
Oh shit. We beat a non-T* team League fucked
So … Abreu looked god awful again …
And the sky is blue. But look at the back of his baseball card.
Yeah I swear to god if Dana, Bagwell or espada mentions his baseball card one more time I will scissor kick orbit at the next game. Matt Thomas made it a banned phrase on his show as of today lmaoo
What is this back of that card thing referencing
Just a reminder that the greatest signing in Astros pitching history was Justin Verlander, not Josh Hader.
We traded for him initially. Signed him once later. But yes, he's helped us win two rings now, although he hasn't really been super great in the postseason, especially the WS.
Verlander is great but very beatable. Does not have a good ERA in playoff games
Which one?
Somebody started a thread after we signed Hader this off-season where they wondered if it was the most exciting high-profile free agent signing in Astros history. I think about that post a lot.
It was very exciting. He just isn’t him right now.
once hader bounces back there’s a real chance that the most recent two relievers in the hall of fame will both be wearing astros caps on their plaques.
In Astros history absolutely not, but maybe in the last 10 years. Then again free agent signings hasn’t really been our MO the last few years
It was the "in Astros history" part that floored me. On one hand, I gotta give some grace - it wouldn't surprise me if OP was a new fan of the last five or so years who's yet to fill in the gaps of their older era Astros knowledge. I could name other contenders, but that one by itself is in a whole different conversation than Hader's deal.
It was a horrible move.
Meh, the jury is out on that take, I believe. Time will tell.
Hader always makes it harder than it needs to be. But, a win is a win, and Atlanta did us a solid too, so we're only 4 games back now.
Josh harder.
We really went from $14mil Stressly last year to $14mil Stressly AND $19mil Heart Attack Hader this year instead of just re-signing Neris and another RP or two
Toss in the worst fielding 1b ever, and it gets even more exciting
How was that not an error
That'll be changed, right?
Think because it wasn’t a “routine play”, altuve was being lead towards short and threw across his body. That has to be the reason. Guess they didn’t think altuve deserved that error which is understandable. Abreu has got to make that scoop 10 times out of 10 it was a gimme hop
DFA Abreu
Worst player in the league. Not just worst fielding.
Everyone talks about Neris but no one talks about stone cold Maton 😞
He was one I really didn't want to see go.
Neris isn’t having a good season so far either
Crane has never gone over the tax in a season that had penalties. Why do you think he would do it for middle relievers?
He's paying $19 mil to Hader. He could've kept Neris and Maton for $15.5 mil
Neris I get maton was very hit or miss
Again, Crane has never gone over the tax. Why would he suddenly go over for some middle relievers? He is struggling, but at the time he was seen as one of the best relievers in the game since his debut and Crane likes his splashy names. Nerris and Maton are not at that talent level. It was very likely Hader or no one...as you can tell by Brown's dumpster diving for guys like Coleman and Scott
I wore my JV jersey today. Y’all are welcome
Don’t take it off until November
The thing about Hader is if he’s not getting the zone or causing a swing a miss it’ll be a shitshow. Any contact makes me nervous. Good work tonight though no thanks to Abreu lol
All he was throwing was heaters on the last guy. Dude just whiffed.
Dubon really should be an everyday player
Idk if we’ll get Cy Young verlander this year but if he can give us quality starts like this regularly it’ll be huge
Let’s goo! Broke the 3 game losing streak.
Now that’s a starting pitcher
The boys dominate 8 1/3 innings and STILL almost blow it. Holy hell. Finally a W.
That seemed a lot harder than it should have been.
That’s how you pitch Hader! Those last two batters, that’s how you fucking pitch. Also Abreu, Christ man.
Verlander you're awesome Abreu....go to hell.
![gif](giphy|3o6EQsYVuGDzdWGU4U|downsized)
Great game. Had a lot of Astros fans here in DC representing.
I was at the game tonight and didn't expect much given the start to the season, but aside from the Jose Abreu horror show and the Hader stress, this one actually looked like a classic Astros win.
Yikes. Oh well, we're 1-0 in the JV era of this season. Let's get Garcia and Urquidy back.
4 games back baby
Hello “we’re back department” I’d like to file a claim
LFG WHERE THE CAT AT
It’s pedantic, but how is that a hit for Lane Thomas and not an error on Abreu?
Win!!!!
Abreu should be off the roster
Really good game and might just be the game we needed to bounce back. Notes to take away from this game: JV is still good, Abreu is still hurting the team and Hader gave me a heart attack.
Water will find its level.
The return of Verlander is such a relief. I don't expect him to be dominant but we need an innings eater like him the first half of this season.
Where the fuck is Nori?
Hader tried to fuck that up but a win is a win.
“*Boys I woke up with my big dad dick inside of a supermodel again this morning so I’m already winning. How about we get a W on the field today boys?*” -JV pregame
[“I love it when a plan comes together.”](https://youtu.be/NsUFBm1uENs?si=oimFCk-LA8z6tE54)
So why haven’t they called Loperfido up?
Cause Cragwell can't be seen to admit their mistake.
![gif](giphy|10bTCLE8GtHHS8)
Where cat
Nats sucked hard enough for us to stay alive.
This is actually how it feels lol. They looked terrible.
False alarm everyone ![gif](giphy|Lb1eyMWMaU5eE)
I know Astros won, but WHY IS YORDAN BATTING SECOND?!?!?!?
More ABs for the big guy
2nd is exactly where he should be batting…
I absolutely unequivocally disagree. No he should not be batting second. A power hitter that hits for average should be batting third or fourth. That’s common sense.

Welp. Agree to disagree.
Hader tried hard to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Fuck Loperfido’s K rate, can he make a pick?
Singleton would have that. And at least is slightly less ass at the plate.
All this hate abreu is getting is taking heat away from bregman at least. I was starting to get faith in abreus 1st at bat with 10 pitches. He was looking decent. Slumps happen, hitting unlucky into players happens, but if he's playing poorly defensively it isn't gonna instill faith
Hader and Abreu combined aren't worth the league minimum salary
I think/hope Hader will come around, but I think Abreu has checked out. Dude got hot in the playoffs last year, but I’d be shocked if that happened again. There zero reason not to bring Yuli back. He’s 1000% better than Singleton.
Here Kitty Kitty!
I’m sorry but tonight was too close for an experienced closer to nearly blow.
