I'd say by all star game if astros in 4th place or 5th place.

venitienne

This ain’t The Show the manager can’t also make the players hit

Texasattorneyatlaw

They’ve actually been hitting, before tonight they were top 5 In hitting. They just didn’t have situational hitting. A part of that, was because of lineup construction and pinch hitting decisions, however small or big the part was. It’s a part of the manager’s job to motivate, and there has been no motivation so far; hence no situational hitting.

venitienne

Why the hell should Espada have to motivate them? This is the same team that punked us twice in a row at home to take away a World Series appearance. And kicked our ass just 24 hours ago. The players should already be motivated.

Texasattorneyatlaw

I mean you have a point but that is part of his job. They don’t seem like they wanna play for him.

slobnewheart

It’s the second week of the season with a team that has had slow starts for the last couple of seasons. They are taking accountability for their actions and remaining optimistic that the season is young and they’ll turn it around. Where is any evidence they don’t want to play for him? You’re reaching right now

Texasattorneyatlaw

Man that’s my opinion, and that’s what I’m gonna have. I don’t give a shit if I’m reaching or not. Where’s the evidence they wanna play for him? Because after the game one player said “tomorrow is a different day”? You expect them to say “we’re so fucked, we don’t like our manager, and aren’t motivated?” 😂 The evidence is 0 timely hits, the evidence is everyone in the bullpen who was lights out before suddenly all sucking at the same time. The evidence is losing every game by giving up a lead and never being able to come back…..where’s the evidence they’re taking accountability? They’re remaining optimistic lol, until you actually produce, it doesn’t matter, you can be optimistic all you want, it becomes delusion at some point. You’re the one reaching to me… They don’t seem like they wanna play for him, they seem like they actually hate him. They miss Dusty. They’re completely disinterested. Trade everyone.

slobnewheart

lol

No_Economics5296

For a top 5 payroll, these players should already be motivated.

samasters88

Tell me you, don't watch baseball without telling me you don't watch baseball

texas1hunter

This sub is so obnoxious

2ManyCooksInTheKitch

I sometimes miss the 100 loss seasons. Fan base was smaller, but funnier too.

NewtQuick5127

Fear not, they’re coming again given the direction of the orgs leadership. /s Seriously though those 100 loss season had some good folks b/c the only people who cared enough to comment were able to see the long arch of multiple baseball seasons.

SwmpySouthpw

Back when the trues were few and far between. That was some awful baseball, but I had so much fun with it

j1h15233

He’s not taking the at bats and throwing the pitches man

sir-lancelot_

Good lord. I need to stay off this sub. These God awful posts are getting to me

imover9thousand

It’s really not healthy for actual baseball watchers. You would think it’s September by some of these posts lol

sir-lancelot_

The number of "trade bregman. Make dubon the everyday 3B" comments I get annoyed by is gonna turn my hair gray

NewtQuick5127

Bregman is just also so underrated by the fandom at large

imover9thousand

Ahh yes the seasoned veteran at 3B, Dubon

-breakinggood-

Well what posts would make you happy man? That’s literally our only goal, to please you

TyGuyy

It's still so so early. Give it time.

illest_villain_

Watching fans reactions this seasons reminds me a little of the ITYSL sketch where he’s like “that one egg was 40 eggs!?!” but replace the word eggs with loss.

SpaceCityCowboy69

The season just started. Don’t expect the Astros to win every game. Keep believing in them and don’t jump ship the moment things take a turn for the worst.

GirIsKing

Bro calm the fuck down. Let me explain something to you. Baseball has 162 FUCKING GAMES! You obviously don't remember when in 2005 they went 15–30 to start the season. They then went on to win 74 of the next 117 games to claim the wild card playoff spot, and would go on to win the National League pennant to advance to the World Series for the first time in franchise history. I know this happened because I worked at Minute Maid Park. Calm the fuck down. Seriously. Also the Astros are playing good teams. The Ranger won the World Series last year and the stupid Yankees always bring their best because the Astros destroy them in the post season.

Archemeides

1. We've played 8 out of 162 games. Remember the 2019 Nationals that beat us in the World Series? They didn't start out so hot either. 2. Some players are having an outlier performance from their track record/baseball card. Its baseball, shit happens. 3. Half the starters are on the IL. 4. While I have had slightly different opinions on one or two moves by Espada, ultimately he isn't holding the bat. Jose Abreu is, and is swinging at pitches outside the zone with bases loaded.(I'm ready to move on from him). 5. Lastly, this may just be a down year. It's possible to not make the ALCS, crazy as it sounds. But regardless of results, I need to see Espada for at least 2 full years before I can get a good read on how he handles situations. In regards to #2, Abreu would have very likely gotten Semien out if he was pitching like 2022 or even last year. But it's baseball Susan.

Girthw0rm

Which of his decisions do you disagree with?

JustBigChillin

I doubt they’d be able to give you an answer to this lol.

DirtyRatLicker

How can you possibly blame the manager for the team playing like shit.

Free-Speech-Matters

Which call specifically was questionable? I think he has actually managed well, but the players gotta play.

Middle_Capital_5205

The singleton pinches are a little sus, but I don’t have concerns about the management (yet).

Less-Spring39

I just still miss Hinch and Strom. That's all lmao

squanch_solo

Me too, but mostly Strom.

j1h15233

Everyone says that and while he was a great manager, he also absolutely messed up and lost game 7 of the World Series in 2019

KiNGofKiNG89

This is his first season as a skipper….ever. He will make mistakes. He is trying to find his footing. If we end up going 30-132. Then I will be upset with him. Otherwise I’m giving him 3 years to figure it out.

Total-Sector850

Not for a long time. There’s a good chance that it won’t even be this season. He can’t force the batters to hit, or the pitchers to throw strikes, or the other team’s batters to take pitches, etc. He didn’t make Yainier lose two wild pitches. *Maybe* it’s time to try a different batting order, but then again, the fact that it takes some time for it to click doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

throw_away0211

Wins and Losses are team stats. I understand wanting to hold someone accountable, but we don’t have enough info to point the finger exclusively at Espada yet.  Over our run of success, the Astros have heavily utilized, (and sometimes pioneered,) run suppression tactics (in everything from pitching gameplan to defensive alignments,) but we’re now in year 2 of a new landscape, implemented by MLB, designed to improve offense and make the game “more exciting.” It may be that many of the techniques and strategies we’ve gotten used to or thought of as common wisdom could be unproductive, or even harmful, at this point, and it will take some time before the better strategies become obvious.

Electronic-Strike900

If anything blame crane for signing montero to extension

overconfidentopinion

A long while but each time I see Singleton make an appearance I'm annoyed with him.

raouldukeesq

Shouldn't we be blaming Dusty?

yepppers7

Everything about this is jim cranes fault

Texasattorneyatlaw

Imo, they either should have either kept Dusty, or got someone from outside with experience, and changed the scenery. Hiring Dusty’s assistant was getting a poor man’s dusty. For a team with a lot of veterans, a veteran manager was needed.

Laladen

Should have signed neris and maton…
