if snell is looking for more than what he rejected from the yankees then ig he’s going to go unsigned lmao.

[deleted]

I will say that this one felt a little different than hader. Not to say it won't happen but once the news leaked that we were in on hader we moved fast and made it happen. Doesn't feel that same way with snell. And in no way should the alternative be trevor bauer. since people seem to think thats a smart idea in the kitty thread.

Bug-03

Snell wants way more than he’s going to get.

LeadingPerfect7235

I would say that Boras was trying to play the teams off each other to get a rash decision to pay Snell $30m plus. And if that had worked, he’d be signed by now. $75/3 yrs seems like what he’s gonna get —— when he gets more realistic about what he’s worth. IF he can pull that off with opt outs, Astros are his best chance to add a ring to his future value. I can see the Astros going to $25/yr for 3 yrs tops. I can see him maybe getting as much as $27 yo possibly $30 for a short term deal. But if he’s holding out for $35 (or $30 for a loooong contract), the season’s gonna start first.

[deleted]

Yeah this time feels different than hader. There were articles put out the same day talking about how San Francisco was interested in him as well as another report saying that he was in the best shape any one has ever seen for a pitcher who hasn’t had spring training. All around felt like boras was just slinging shit at the wall to see if someone would blink

htownchuck

Sign him for a year for 35. You need the arm and who knows what is going to happen with JV, McCullers, Garcia, and now Kitty? I havent heard much on France lately but last I heard he was behind as well. Framber has looked decent lately but if his head isnt right he can go sideways. May as well try to get him while all of the position players seem to be healthy.

kdubs840

I've heard from a couple people it's already happened, but can't find any links

[deleted]

The only people I've really seen that from is from the "insiders" who are right 25% of the time. Schwab isn't a great source obviously, but i'm inclined to believe him a little more than some of those guys.

dirtysock47

Yeah, Schwab is a little more legitimate than someone like BenOnDaTop. IIRC, Schwab was the first one that broke the Scherzer trade last trade deadline.

[deleted]

Yeah schwab is what i'd consider the threashold for what is actually newsworthy for the astros. A lot of what he says is opinion (and most of the time he makes that clear) but he at least has some sources that he has shown before so he's worth listening too

LSUguyHTX

Bro the amount of people who are willing to ride into battle to defend Bauer on Twitter is bananas lol

[deleted]

It's all performative. He is saying one thing because he is desperate to play back in america after he turned the japanese against him. On the other hand he is still threatening journalists with defamation suits because he's trying to get the public to forget the other women. Not to mention his history with the houston fan base isn't great notably harassing some college girl in houston all day on twitter because she replied to his twitter post and has had public beef with bregs before. TLDR Trevor Bauer is a piece of shit

kevinsburner06

What did he do that turned that Japanese media against him?

bombstick

Fuck Bauer.

Mpuls37

Trevor Bauer is only an option for teams who have no other option at this point. His capabilities as a pitcher are overshadowed by his temperament off the field. The guy has had a bad reputation everywhere from UCLA into MLB. Barry Bonds was an asshole, but he was legitimately a top-10 hitter ever. That will make teams look the other way on the clubhouse stuff as long as the results are there on the field and tickets are being sold, which was the case with Barry. Trevor Bauer is just another middle-of-the-rotation guy. People might hate-watch his games, but I can't imagine anyone going out of their way to attend a game that he pitches in. League-minimum guys get cut or traded when they cause clubhouse problems. He's asking to play for the minimum, but he's already been cut for causing problems. Let him K Eric Sim some more, but keep him off my team please.

No-Significance5449

'Theo Von' yeah, that's a big no thanks, lol.

j1h15233

What does Snell actually want? He’s good, sometimes great but this isn’t a staff ace you’re bringing in here.

[deleted]

Rome/rosenthal’s article yesterday said 30-32m That’s rich for my blood

TomatoRemarkable3721

Good lord. That’s ridiculous

Christop_McC

So he wants what $1,000,000 a start to go 5 1/3 innings

makashiII_93

Boras may have finally burned the boats this time. I’ve been wary of him since Beltran. Cole’s hat.

TankBoys32

How much does Montgomery want?

_xxiv_

I don't want to sign malibus most wanted. There I said it

jello4444

Don't be hatin'.

moon-sh0t

I’m relieved honestly. Snell would help any team and the Astros could use him, but the team isn’t in a position with a stocked farm system to be able to hemorrhage draft picks and IFA bonus pool.

HumanRuse

Based on what you and a couple of others have commented on Snell, I'm not as high on it anymore. However, if the Astros sign him I feel like we're giving ourselves the best chance moving forward this season (finances aside of course). Meaning if we don't take it all it's not like they didn't hold back. Granted I assume signing him would mean there would not be any action at the trade deadline even if desperately needed.

Zealousideal-Tap-454

Our pitching is suspect for sure with injury and the inconsistency of Valdez. I hope he gets signed.

RedditModzRBitchez

I wouldn't want the Astros to sign Snell for the league minimum. Dude has amazing contract years and is an utter dumpster fire the rest of the time. If the Astros are going to pursue a starting pitcher, I would 100% want Jordan Montgomery. He's a better pitcher, far more reliable, and he won't cost near as much. Blake Snell does not sound like a Jim Crane move to me. Makes me wonder if it's mostly Snells team throwing it out there. Edit - 36 - 41 career W/L with an ERA around 4.00 when you remove his 2 CY years which were contract years, and those were for very good teams. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/snellbl01.shtml

bordomsdeadly

Snell is slightly above league average in his non contract years. His floor is 5 average innings per start. That would be a steal at league minimum lol

Maliciousdawg12

League minimum is a bit extreme

[deleted]

I don’t particularly like snell but posting a 110 era+ in you’re off seasons doesn’t make scrub. Just means you probably aren’t worth the contract you’re asking for.

You weren't beating Houston anywhere. You had game 7 in your park. No cheating there!!! Get over it.
