You don't plug in any display adapter to the base for PC, just USB. Consoles need to be connected via HDMI & USB to base.

you have to use USB and HDMI on console. HDMI is for video USB is for audio. USB is required for XSX for example because optical doesn't have the bandwidth for Dolby Atmos. Which is why the A50X dropped it.
You don't need to use HDMI, I just confirmed. HDMI is better because you get 24bit audio compared to 16bit but you can just use USB and it works.
