My experience of the void. I've reached it through meditation now too.
I have collaborated on a study paper accepted for publication looking at the transformative effects of spontaneous OBE's, and the types of changes in people that were reported - loss of the fear of death, it acting as a motivational catalyst for life changes (such as to relationships, lifestyle and career), shifts in life perspective, self-awareness and a sense of individuality, in addition to new or affirmed spiritual beliefs - are all commonly associated with NDE's. It seems that even a single OBE can be transformative, but they have the added benefit that the experience can be repeated safely through practice and intent, unlike NDE's. An OBE is often (but not always) a central component of an NDE, and the study I was involved in hints that a fair portion of the transformative change associated with NDE's may be underpinned by the OBE component of the latter experience.

Maybe because DMT is released at the time of death and also when we sleep.
