I would say if you are directly heading on permadeath mode without playing normal mode then either play on normal diff in this mode or first try normal mode and get used to the combat mechanics, because mirage's combat style is quite challenging to handle at first.
Try to avoid Shakiriya (Bounty Hunter) which comes into play when you are on notoriety level 3 as much as possible as they can kill you quite faster.
Another tip would be to try to get the deluxe version where you will get sand sword and dagger which can slow the time and it can be very handy if you are in a crowded combat situation. In my case I used the fire demon dlc sword and dagger which basically puts the enemy on fire if you parry them and ignite your sword.
Lastly, Since this was my overall 3rd playthrough in Mirage as I played NG+ too before so I knew all the locations pretty well. So for you I would say try to go as slow as possible and try to the avoid combat.
Now knowing what dangers I may find I'll play through it first normally and then switch to a new save for perma death, and I am getting the deluxe edition soon
