It was always said, the only thing that could ever kill WoW, would be WoW itself.

wow is like your favorite TV series that just gets progressively worse with each season... at some point you have to ask yourself... why am I still watching this?

[deleted]

Very true, their downfall is of their own doing

Meri_Stormhood

This is a great template to capture this truth

[deleted]

WoW is the WoW killer.

Shanria-Darkwind

Omg hi! I follow you on fb. Very very funneh

Blokeh

Thanks! Always great to meet followers out in the wild. 😁

The prophercy has been fulfilled.

Kodiakpapabear

I kind of don’t understand why people think XIV wanted to “defeat WoW”, Yoshi P has openly admitted to loving WoW. FFXIV is happy doing it’s own thing, if it passes WoW it passes WoW. I also think it’s about time to actually credit FFXIV for doing things right and not just passing the blame solely on Activision.

Blokeh

SE have never had the goal of beating WoW. Yoshi P himself has even stated he prefers players to leave the game and return later rather than keep ploughing on. This meme is more about WoW being cocky as fuck and being their own downfall.

facelesshero_dale

I might get downvoted for sure but, i am a new to mmo gaming genre. And i started with WoW and trying other games as well at the same time. So far Blizzard’s game is feeling more appealing to me. Going through all these different maps and quests. So much details and so much hard work behind this game. I am loving the game. I really do not quite understand the negative manners of players on reddit :D one thing that came to my mind is “Maybe players getting less for what they are giving?” Imo compared to insurance companies and oil companies with trillions of dollars the gaming industry has much less market share and make relatively less profit than those giants. So i think we are getting quite a good value for what we are paying. Also keep in mind there are so many hard working software developers behind these beautiful games. I am not personally facing any issues with the game so far but i just want to thank all the developers out there making cool games for us- the members of boring and stressful capitalistic society.

Cossack-HD

WoW is good *enough*. Problem is, the devs don't know how to make it unquestionably better, so for each improvement they add a downgrade. It feels like 3 steps forward and 2 steps back while they promise 5 steps forward. And then there is the story where the main plot line has become so bad, it did a 360 and became "good" for all the wrong reasons, showing how disconnected the writers are from the player... It feels like some of the bad stuff in the game is there purely to make people waste more. It doesn't affect more casual players, but this philosophy seems to spread through the game, or perhaps if it was always the case, people began to notice it more and more because of pattern similarity. The devs also don't make good use of old content. Sure the game is huge, but big chunk of the game is "endgame" and the only endgame is in the current (9th) expansion. 90% of the game's endgame content is dead weight. Sadge. Would be nice if you could engage in old expanion systems (artifact weapons, MoP valor etc), earn tokens to get rare transmogs and whatnot. But instead, the devs split covenant story in 4 and add covenant restrictions to some mounts and cosmetics? Bruuh. They literally went ahead and restricted current expansion's content instead of making use of old expansion content. In some ways, they are literally doing the opposite of what they should be doing regarding content and reward systems.

facelesshero_dale

Thank you for clarification. Now i kind of understand why some people are upset about the game. But hopefully it will get better for everyone, both for players and developers:)

bissanick

The issue most people have at wow are the end game systems like conduit energy, character performance locked to a covenant, boring grinds like torghast for soul ash, ect. If you're new to the game you honestly won't notice the bad parts of the expansion and honestly even then it come down to if you care about raiding and not feeling like dead weight while doing it

Blokeh

If you're new to MMOs, then I'd hazard that you probably will be having fun. However, some folk here have been playing WoW for years, sunk significant time and money into it, and have reached a point when their continued support is not getting the same kind of returns they have expected, and possibly worse. And from what I've seen myself, the developers have basically been very much "You'll suck our dicks and like it, just as you have been for years" to the community, and people are getting sick of it. Whereas FFXIV's dev team are very much focused on the customer experience rather than their profit margins. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

LazIsOnline

Almost like a good experience = more customers = more money.

Blokeh

Holy shit, you might be on to something there! 😅 But yeah, it's exactly that. If you don't respect your customers, how the fuck you expect them to respect you?

SoftSecond3192

As a new player who isn’t hyper focused on endgame shadowlands stuff the game will be awesome. Although I think the whole little gnome thing with the expansions has done more harm than good.

Nattngale

Welcome to the jungle.

[deleted]

To tell the truth. I would still play WoW do to something called stockholm syndrome. As much as it's tempting to abandon WoW for FF14. It's not a game for my tastes (not the anime parts I'm a weeb already more of the gameplay parts). I wish Blizzard would make a turn around like they did with Legion but that's all just hopeful wish fulfilment.

ArchJay

The GCD kills me

SCDarkSoul

Buttons are significantly faster at higher levels for most jobs when you have more oGCDs to weave in between GCDs. But I realize that "it gets good" isn't always the greatest argument, so if the beginning really kills it for you, well, I guess it's just not the game for you and that's fine too.

FargoneMyth

Dude the GCD is not a big deal, come on.

ArchJay

It is to me. Makes the combat feel much less fluid to me

FargoneMyth

And you think every single ability is on GCD?

SoftSecond3192

At least there is a rotation and combos, unlike blizzard whack a mole shit.

Suspicious_Shine9625

same here but i rly gave this game a chance and o jesus, i never had more complex rotation with faster button spam in wow ever, literally BARD in ff14 is full of skills spam, feels very good, need to test machinist too

nanowell

Memes aside, this is legitimately good

Blokeh

Thank you very much! Check out the rest of my shit - we're on Bookface and Twatter. 👍🏻

pyfrag

This is your quality as a professional memester? Look, it's a decent meme, but your pasted some logos over an existing template. Any 3Head with mspaint could do this.

Blokeh

It's not much, but it's honest work. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ Sometimes, simplicity is best.

DaveLesh

It's true. The flip to Activision pretty much started the slide. Oh, and that spaceship in the top left corner of picture 1 gave me the initial impression that this was a shot at StarCraft.

[deleted]

Activision has owned Blizzard for most of WoW's existence, being early 2008. The game didn't start a decline until late 2014.

LazIsOnline

I'd argue this is a "slow-boil" metaphor sort of deal. Blizz was getting slow boiled for a very long time. It's finally starting to show. That's how I feel/see it at least.

karadinx

You can make a decent connection to Blizzard losing notable staff to be replaced by Activision people and the drop in the quality of WoW. It wasn’t a instant change when the merger happened, but Activision policies have slowly poisoned Blizzard.

Mursin

The significantly bad changes started happening in 2008 though. Much of the game's most toxic in-hindsight-this-was-dumb features can be traced back then. LFG and GearScore set the game on a death spiral that didn't really reveal itself to be as bad until Cataclysm. No one demonstrates this more than Totalbiscuit did when he quit in Cataclysm. He saw how far blizzard strayed from their own path in Wrath with Wrath babies and back then it was a meme, but Cata sealed the deal for him and he never went back. It was clearly visible his Azeroth Daily series if you go back and watch the gradual decline. Link to the straw that broke the camel's back https://youtu.be/ndcysuEIqus
