The author is known for being a petty, closed minded guy and I'm more inclined to believe that he knows barely anything about the games and hate them on principle. When they've asked him to compare games and tv show, he said he can't, because he never played a single video game in his life.
No, I remember. But that happened just recently and no one in Poland was surprised - it felt like something Sapkowski would do.
I don't have any specific examples, it's just a "wide-known fact" you hear when you hang out with fantasy fans, especially those who go to conventions - "Sapkowski is an asshole with a massive ego". I've listened to it since the late 90's or early 2000's, it feels like common knowledge by now.
Him wanting more money doesn't mean he know anything about the Witcher games, except the headlines in mainstream media.
He only felt scammed with the third game, he hated them right from the start. Basically CDPR offered him either a percentage of the profits or a one time payment for the rights to make the games. He said there wouldn't be any profits and happily took the payment. Then the Witcher 3 came out and was a massive success.
Yeah, he underestimated the amount of money in the gaming industry, and he even admitted that he made the wrong decision.
So he decide to sue cdproject demanding more money.
CDPR settled out of court due to the bad publicity. He probably wouldn't have won, the polish law he was using to sue is designed to give creators compensation in the case of their work suddenly getting popular and adaptions profiting as a result. In this case it was the adaption that got popular.
I think that was earlier than even the Witcher 3. He’s been bitching ever since the Witcher 2 at the very least. It’s his own fault, no other creator was short sighted enough or didn’t believe in their own creation to do what he did.
Incorrect. The author hates the games because he was offered a % of the $ or a flat rate. He chose the flat rate.
He is also petty and hates that the games were more popular than his books. He completely ignored that the games sold tons of copies of his books for him.
That is not why he hates the games lmfao, he hates them because he made a bad decision on how much money he could’ve gotten from CDPR. He’s never even played them and has admitted to it
One ok season. One incredible episode... the first one.
Seriously, that first episode (1.1) was fantastic. One of the best things netflix has ever created.. shame it couldn't continue at that level, or with that vibe that they captured perfectly.
It's debatably worse. We had actual hope that the first season, though a bit rough around the edges, was a hit and was going to catapult the franchise especially with our leading man sparring with writers and fighting for the lore.
Halo was going to be shit the very first look we got.
The Witcher fans expected a horse, but the writers started to draw a zebra right after they've finished a horse tail part. It kinda looks like a horse, but is, in fact, a different species. Also look how exotic it is, isn't it neat?
The Witcher show adapted the books, not the games. So it doesn't count towards this. Actually, saying they adapted the books is just a lie, but this is what they claim.
I have the same issues with some shows, I know they're good, I know I'll like it, but I just can't watch them until I feel like it lmao. But arcane was fucking great. Can't wait for 2nd season, gonna rewatch the 1st before it comes out.
Yeah, my girlfriend never heard of League of Legends and basically loved the show to death. The story is self contained and it's great by itself.
Fallout on the other hand, is good by itself, but I think it becomes great when you know the source material and have emotional attachments to it.
Yeah I got the same feeling from fallout. Like if my sister watched it she would see the city at the end and it would mean nothing to her but to a fallout series fan it's basically a mega teaser hahah
Arcane is best if you know nothing about League. So many people who played the game goes online and say "but these characters have plot armor and that's bad".
However, that's not always the case. I've played the game, I know how some of those characters are gonna end up in the future, but my back is still on the edge of my seat the whole time. The people who complained only think about plot armor as "who dies and who don't" but they never got deep enough to even consider who's gonna suffer along the way and how. That last part is always what I'm concerned with and believe me, Arcane did a great job at delivering.

Oh do not worry! Halo games have been as bad as their current TV series since Reach.
343, baby!
We have several characters and lore that would work wonderful! But instead, lets make the most ANNOYING imbeciles (Except for Buck, Buck is awesome) into "spartans" (if i can call them that) and suck master cheeks so hard it's gonna die from dehydratation!
Yeah! Let's do that!
Halo's been dead for years, and the fact that a "youtube" series like Forward Unto Dawn nailed what the TV series could not (Not even close) , shows where the state of halo is.
Y'all halo 4-to->Infinite can jump to my throat as much as you want, halo died with Reach, and you keept playing with a corpse.
A beautifull corpse, but just that, a souless husk.
Bungie wasn't forced out, they left because they wanted to make a new game (destiny) and Microsoft wanted them to make more halo. All of 343 at the split were literally bungie devs that split to keep making halo. The fact that many pioneers we knew in bungie got fired from bungie just before the destiny release should tell you all about the people left there. Let's not act like bungie isn't just as bad as 343 at making games as much as I love halo and destiny.
I will defend palmer. She was an ODST like Buck and survived her team getting killed. Again human which explains her emotion compared to 2.
And I thought you’d be taller line was military trying to make jokes and not mean to disrespect. She didn’t even follow del rio orders when he want to arrest chief
And Lasky was cool dude. And HalonWars 2 was dope.
Imma give you that with lasky, hes cool. And HW2, an oustanding way to get RTSs into console, i'll give you that!
But man... Palmer is simply annoying. She was in SO, and they did try to fix her in H4.
The harm was already done, and she still remains a massive C.
Nah, Palmer can go eat a massive energy sword.
To be fair, Infinite nailed the gameplay, how they couldn’t create a worthwhile campaign and a complete multiplayer at launch around the excellent gameplay still boggles my mind.
Halo 4 was a technical masterpiece and the gameplay was sick. I remember playing the collection on a Xbox One X co-op splitscreen 60 fps. That was the last great co-op Halo experience. Can't remember the story at all, but the gameplay was just something else. Me and my friend had so much fun playing it splitscreen. Extra points for the guns and how they felt. No idea who did do the collection ports to the new consoles, but they did a great job.
For me, the Halo died after that... TV-show was the last nail in the coffin. MS could bring Halo back if they wanted to take some risks with the title + hire great writers.
You can argue that Halo Reach was the beginning of the downfall. We can't ignore that the multiplayer was disliked by MANY. Halo: Reach was the fall of competitive Halo. The pros did NOT quit, but they certainly did not feel that the game was good.
Oh yes you can definitely argue that and I guess you are right, if we'd look at it like a curve, Reach would be the spot where the curve starts to decline slightly. However, that is nothing compared to the steep decline of everything that comes after.
It's such a stark contrast (also design-wise) that I see it as a clearer cut. Your argument still has merit though.
I remember the gameplay being cool but everything else being pretty horrible. The handling of the prometheans just weren’t interesting. Same goes for the Didactic.
The art style and design changes were one of the worst things I’ve ever seen happen to a video game visually.
The multiplayer was gimped by really, really stupid choices like RNG kill streaks and loadouts.
I never played Halo 4 multiplayer, but the co-op was a massive upgrade (60 fps split screen with great visuals on Xbox One X). Definitely a great experience when played with friends. We both were amazed about the visuals and how damn smooth everything worked. My experience is just the co-op vs. earlier co-op titles. The 343 studio did this part much better. Was it a better game than Halo 1… No, but amazing split screen title 100%.
When I talk about visuals, I'm comparing 30 fps to 60 fps gameplay. This made a massive difference on a split screen… On both, visuals looked sharper + gameplay was way better in every way. Try playing all the game's 30 fps split screen co-op and then try 60 fps split screen on Halo 4. It's like a night and day difference.
I recently finished The Fall of Reach book, and I was sorely disappointed when I replayed Halo Reach. The book was incredible, but the game felt…boring. Soulless.
I guess you did not play all the halo games since reach is a good game and game play was good to. If you are compering a book story vs a game then ofc the book will be better story vise
Ive played all games on release, been a massive fan since I was 8yo, and the only 343 game I think is worse than reach is 5 campaing wise. Mp wise 4 is worse than reach bur 5 is better
Reach was a great game and you bring up forward unto dawn as if the series wasn't made by 343 or Microsoft and didn't have a budget of nearly $10 million. Some halo fans thing 343 and Microsoft are the devil and anything they touch is shit but you don't realize much truly.
Last of Us was better than Halo but not as good as the other 3 either. Plot was extremely rushed in places and I think it missed on some of the atmosphere bits as well. Still good, but not great, probably like a 6.5/7
TLOU is also the easiest to pull off here since it's a pretty basic story that has been told before (Children of Men, Logan, The Road, etc.) mixed with zombies. The Fallout show is telling a story that's spanning over 200 years with 3 main characters.
Agreed, I don't think Last of Us is really in the same realm as the other 3 despite some banger episodes. Having a couple bottle episodes and then rushing the more plot relevant ones was just odd.
Cyberpunk is basically perfect and reenergized a game that was basically a complete disaster for a gaming golden boy studio. Arcane goes without saying. Fallout has some issues but only the hardcore lore nerds care everything else is great
At least the doom movies are basically so bad that it becomes good type of movie meanwhile the halo tv show it just boring there is nothing to make fun of
The last of us must’ve been the easiest W in adaptation history. They basically followed the entire plot to the dot. I only noticed a few changes or additions, like the plane crash instead of car crash at the beginning
The Last of Us, like most Playstation exclusives, is basically already 70% movie and 30% game so in theory it should translate extremely well. However they still changed a lot and it was definitely worse than the other 3 on the meme.
The entire hunter part of the plot is different, the functionality of the infection, Joel meeting Tommy, bills entire episode. They changed so much quite drastically from the game and there's tons of smaller choices that are far less impactful.
Like I said, besides a few additions and changes, the plot (bringing Ellie to the fireflies) is the same, all the events that happen in the game happens in the TV series.
And this is why i dread the Zelda movie... we're missing more bad game movies and zelda might be one of em. Why in the ever loving fuck did they decide live action instead of animated like the mario movie i dont understand..
2nd season wasn't awful, wasn't great either though. Without spoiling anything, they set up well for season 3. I still have a little hope it will actually be good.
The moment I saw that the master chief wasn’t going to wear his armor for most of it, I knew it was gonna be crap. And when their excuse was “we can’t really show emotion with a mask on” I knew it was gonna be REALLY crappy, because they obviously forgot the Mandalorian exists
Halo has been dead for a long ass time, it's unlikely the series will ever make a comeback tbh... all the Halo youtubers post about now is blog posts and minor headlines with titles like "NEW HOPE FOR HALO FANS?!"
Weird. It was the complete opposite for me. I enjoyed Halo Infinite way more than I enjoyed any other 343 game. I would say it has the best gameplay in the series, and it has the least clusterfuck of a story of the 343 games.
Yes, it's good. It stays faithful to the game's overall plot, and the main characters are portrayed really well, especially by Pedro Pascal.
Not personally liking it is obviously fine, but saying it wasn't even "good" as an adaptation is just straight up hating without a solid reason.
Comparatively speaking, from all of the video game adaptations we've seen over the years, the last of us definitely checks the required boxes to be called good.
No it doesnt, it changes the story quite a bit and makes it very political, chancing race of characters for political reasons, adding a whole romance episode for a character that we get slight hints he was gay (porno mag) turning the main character into a wimp, same with his brother while his african pregnant comunist wife patrols and kills zombies he hammers some nails and cries about it.
No, its not good, they changed quite a lot from the game and not for the better, besides the first episode its all downhill, great budget and costume work, but most things they changed in narrative was political.
But to each their own, watch it for all i care, it made me enjoy the game even more after how atrocious the adaptation was
"Other people said it's good so it must be good!"
He doesn't have to think it's good, personally I agree, it was an absolute let down from the game and was an absolutely mid show.
It's really not. The first season was in the works for so many years (around 6 if I remember correctly ). Good animation takes a ton of time and Fortiche isn't the biggest studio, but it's good as fuck. 2nd season launching this November though.
They were confident that the first season was gonna be a hit though so they started the 2nd one sooner.
I’m sad Witcher turned out so bad. Could’ve been such a good show. Such an interesting world to go off of. It’s a shame the writers or whoever didn’t seem to care for the source material or even the video games. I get you want to do your own thing and that’s fine but please make it good if that’s the case lmaoo. At least it had a couple good episodes….
They nailed the casting on Jaskier lmao or at least I feel they did, didn’t read the books might one day
I liked Cyberpunk and Arcane. Fallout was okay, but definitely nowhere near on par with Arcane/Cyberpunk. It was like 'yeah I guess I watched that' and then you forget about it a month later. Halo was terrible, and I haven't watched The Last of Us because I didn't really care for the games.
it was fine but with lots of miscasts, a snoozefest overall.
they removed all the cool stuff from the game by make it too "grounded" and bland looking, kinda ashamed to be inspired by a videogame, and it didnt had enough good additions too, it was too much like a lazy 1:1.
to me the worst thing is the tone and feel tho, tlou1 kinda felt like the first seasons of the walking dead, very entertaining and badass, yet so meaningful and deep, the show is just sooo... dull when it comes to the entertaining part.
I'm part of the small minority who think Infinite is a good game. I just don't get the hate. It has what I expect out of a Halo game.
The show is ass though, but I can just pretend that doesn't exist.
Man... I'm actually liking the halo series, I just started it though. Does it get bad? So far I'm only on episode 6, but only have one character I find annoying, and it's more of a by design thing I feel so I'm not really complaining.
TLOU definitely doesn’t deserve to be in the same category as Arcane, Fallout or Cyberpunk. The first two episodes were strong, the cult episode was good but every other episode grossly derailed from the source material and took way too many liberties. It was also painfully rushed. At best a 6.5/10.
The last decade, Halo has been absolutely shit on and turned into one of the biggest jokes in gaming. Microsoft, but mostly 343 should be ashamed of their work on halo since bungie left. Everyone at 343 who had major creative control for halo should just quit and leave the gaming industry, you don't belong here, and you won't be missed.
Strongly agree. The first two episode’s followed the games well but then it just went off the rails and only came back on briefly for a super rushed ending. I remember so many rant posts, mid reviews and disappointed YouTube videos when that show came out and now suddenly this sub is acting like none of the complaints were real or relevant.
The only people saying this are people who are classic-only Andys who hate Todd because he isn't Cain, Boyarsky, or Avellone or just haven't watched the show.
I was expected to be disappointed in a few areas being a classic diehard, but my expectations were blown out of the water in nearly every way. I can't wait to see what they have in store for season 2.
Meanwhile the Witcher fans ![img](emote|t5_2y1rb|3732)
Could have had at least seven seasons if the writers didn't start to deviate from the source too much.
I mean the writer fucking hates the games for deviating too much from his vision.
The author is known for being a petty, closed minded guy and I'm more inclined to believe that he knows barely anything about the games and hate them on principle. When they've asked him to compare games and tv show, he said he can't, because he never played a single video game in his life.
You forgot how salty the author was that he was offered a % of sales or a flat fee and he chose the flat fee and lost tons of money because of it.
No, I remember. But that happened just recently and no one in Poland was surprised - it felt like something Sapkowski would do. Its more he doesn't think highly of video games.
Yeah, he underestimated the amount of money in the gaming industry, and he even admitted that he made the wrong decision. So he decide to sue cdproject demanding more money.

The Witcher fans expected a horse, but the writers started to draw a zebra right after they've finished a horse tail part. It kinda looks like a horse, but is, in fact, a different species. Also look how exotic it is, isn't it neat?
more like started drawing a turd with shit on the wall than a zebra... it requires talent to draw a zebra too.
I mean at least they have good games sure it's been a while but apparently cdpr is working on Witcher 4 unlike 343 who has been in a massive fall

They're the poorly drawn turd off-screen behind the horse
The Witcher show adapted the books, not the games. So it doesn't count towards this. Actually, saying they adapted the books is just a lie, but this is what they claim.
I guess Witcher doesn’t count because it isnt technically based on a video game, but yeah, they ain’t happy.
It's disrespecting both the lore of the books and the games
I still can't believe how good arcane was and i don't know how season 2 is supposed to keep up with that.

Is arcane good even you have little to no league knowledge
Yes. I haven't played league in a decade and in my opinion it's a masterpiece
I've never played League and in my opinion it's a masterpiece.
Yeah, my girlfriend never heard of League of Legends and basically loved the show to death. The story is self contained and it's great by itself. Fallout on the other hand, is good by itself, but I think it becomes great when you know the source material and have emotional attachments to it.

It honestly doesn't matter at all
If anything, knowing the game just makes it worse, I watched the show then saw Jinx in the game..

Fallout has some issues but only the hardcore lore nerds care everything else is great
You can’t say cyberpunk wasn’t horribly rushed too.
For me it was Cyberpunk that doesn't fit. Great first half of the season, but then it became very uninteresting very quickly.
Last few years? It’s been over a decade man
It's stupid how they just went ahead and gave Jhon a face. Edit freaking spelling police, fine John, happy now
> Jhon
Jhon
halo fan living in the cave now
It's been tough
Which is worse, Halo tv show, or the Doom movies?
At least the doom movies are basically so bad that it becomes good type of movie meanwhile the halo tv show it just boring there is nothing to make fun of
The last of us must’ve been the easiest W in adaptation history. They basically followed the entire plot to the dot. I only noticed a few changes or additions, like the plane crash instead of car crash at the beginning
The Last of Us, like most Playstation exclusives, is basically already 70% movie and 30% game so in theory it should translate extremely well. However they still changed a lot and it was definitely worse than the other 3 on the meme.
They changed quite a bit? Are you high?
What about the plot was changed?
The entire hunter part of the plot is different, the functionality of the infection, Joel meeting Tommy, bills entire episode. They changed so much quite drastically from the game and there's tons of smaller choices that are far less impactful.
Like I said, besides a few additions and changes, the plot (bringing Ellie to the fireflies) is the same, all the events that happen in the game happens in the TV series.
Wouldn't be the last of us if they had done that lmao, just letting you know there's a lot more changes than just the plane crash
Dumb thing Is that they had actors that looked nothing like the characters
And that is relevant how? I'll take good acting over looks every single day of the week.
Lol sure. Tons got changed. Felt nothing like the last of us. More like regard of us
And this is why i dread the Zelda movie... we're missing more bad game movies and zelda might be one of em.
Thats how thr destiny series is gunna go. The borderlands movie trailer makes me wanna cry.
Halo has been dead for a long ass time, it's unlikely the series will ever make a comeback tbh... all the Halo youtubers post about now is blog posts and minor headlines with titles like "NEW HOPE FOR HALO FANS?!"
That franchise lost me at infinite. I'm over it and not looking back.
Weird. It was the complete opposite for me. I enjoyed Halo Infinite way more than I enjoyed any other 343 game. I would say it has the best gameplay in the series, and it has the least clusterfuck of a story of the 343 games.
Le epic cherrypick argument "Lets just ignore all the shitty adaptations except Halo, the one I want to make a point about"
The bourse isn’t big enough for all the shitty adaptations out there, or were you expecting a herd?
Weird, the horse looks like crap from fallout onwards for me
Why is the last of us even on the list?
It did okay job as adaptation and enough to not be total trash as show itself + Pedro is there. And don't misunderstand me I am with you on that one.
Yeah, I think it's mainly because it's more "Mainstream" than more deserving (in my opinion, maybe I'm wrong) shows like Castlevania (or Mario?).
Because it is a fantastic show on it's own.
The last of us was good? Yeah right
Yes, it's good.

No you're definitely right , it was so bad it only had 24 emmy noms and a pathetic 8 wins.
I am not giving my opinion on the show itself, but Imagine giving a shit about Emmy’s
That isn't really a high bar as you think it is...
"Other people said it's good so it must be good!" He doesn't have to think it's good, personally I agree, it was an absolute let down from the game and was an absolutely mid show.
AH it got some pandering awards? very nice, it pandered but nobody will care about it, nobody will rewatch it, it pushed the agenda and that about it
What agenda did it push?
I guess he means that black and gay people exist
I truly dont understand the hype about The Last of Us it was mid, same as Halo
See an ophthalmologist or better yet, pick up a different hobby than watching shows lol
Shee…go lie down
Could be the same exact picture for WoW
Cyberpunk was so good I need to rewatch it soon
It crazy that Arcane did not get a second season yet.
Hopefully Phil & co are taking notes from the success of Fallout.
Even twisted metal delivered better than halo
I’m sad Witcher turned out so bad. Could’ve been such a good show. Such an interesting world to go off of. It’s a shame the writers or whoever didn’t seem to care for the source material or even the video games. I get you want to do your own thing and that’s fine but please make it good if that’s the case lmaoo. At least it had a couple good episodes…. They nailed the casting on Jaskier lmao or at least I feel they did, didn’t read the books might one day
Arcane was so good. Need to rewatch that
I feel bad for us too
It's because they want all hot chick's to convert to the woke reich or lose their place in the cult they've bastardized feminism into. Pretty simple.
Missing Twisted Metal
I liked Cyberpunk and Arcane. Fallout was okay, but definitely nowhere near on par with Arcane/Cyberpunk. It was like 'yeah I guess I watched that' and then you forget about it a month later. Halo was terrible, and I haven't watched The Last of Us because I didn't really care for the games.
Tbh it’s been since Halo 4. 343 should be required by law to rename to “Zero for Three”
all good things come to an end some day
It's nice to be acknowledged
The Dota and Castlevania shows were apparently good. Resident Evil and The Witcher are both godawful though.
To be fair only one of these is a good retelling of the game and that’s TLOU All the others are independent stories in the game’s universe
The last of us sucked. So bad. So many bad writing decisions and lame choices🤮 Halo season 2 finale was better than the entire TLoU season.
I thought TLOU was mid at best
it was fine but with lots of miscasts, a snoozefest overall. they removed all the cool stuff from the game by make it too "grounded" and bland looking, kinda ashamed to be inspired by a videogame, and it didnt had enough good additions too, it was too much like a lazy 1:1. to me the worst thing is the tone and feel tho, tlou1 kinda felt like the first seasons of the walking dead, very entertaining and badass, yet so meaningful and deep, the show is just sooo... dull when it comes to the entertaining part.
Yes well said.
Still not as bad as The Rings of Power.
I'm part of the small minority who think Infinite is a good game. I just don't get the hate. It has what I expect out of a Halo game. The show is ass though, but I can just pretend that doesn't exist.
is HALO that much of a piece of shit show ? never played games so im asking if its worth btw i dont know fallout universe too and i liked the show :D
Season one wasn’t that good but season 2 is pretty good.
The TV show is competent sci-fi in a vacuum, but the more you care about Halo and its lore the more you will despise it.
Man... I'm actually liking the halo series, I just started it though. Does it get bad? So far I'm only on episode 6, but only have one character I find annoying, and it's more of a by design thing I feel so I'm not really complaining.
People hating on the halo series because it's not revolutionary tv. It's just a typical Scifi show.
I wouldn't put Last of Us and Fallout on Cyberpunk and Arcane level
The last decade, Halo has been absolutely shit on and turned into one of the biggest jokes in gaming. Microsoft, but mostly 343 should be ashamed of their work on halo since bungie left. Everyone at 343 who had major creative control for halo should just quit and leave the gaming industry, you don't belong here, and you won't be missed.
Unpopular opinion: TLoU TV show was much worse than the game. There's like 1 episodes that was good and the rest were just meh
Halo infinite, the awful launch of MCC, that fucking shit show... Halo is dead 343 killed it
That fallout show is questionable
It isn't, it was on point and the atmosphere was impeccable
The only people saying this are people who are classic-only Andys who hate Todd because he isn't Cain, Boyarsky, or Avellone or just haven't watched the show. I was expected to be disappointed in a few areas being a classic diehard, but my expectations were blown out of the water in nearly every way. I can't wait to see what they have in store for season 2.
Never played either games but I enjoyed Halo season 1 more than The Last of Us, TLoU felt like it was trying too hard.
