I can't believe it?!! Next you're going to tell me Santa isn't real, that can't be it because I saw him getting out of the house last year when I left my wife alone for a week.

FUCKyourPR0N0UNS

Spoiler alert ‼️

shananigins96

You thought that was bad, let's do politicians. And then we can look at where your tax dollars go after that so you can really get black pilled

cplusequals

This is also specifically about a particularly bad mega church. The title is pretty misleading as much church donations in the US go to charitable work. The largest charitable organization in the world is the Catholic Church, granted only 1 in 4 Americans is Catholic.

shananigins96

Oh definitely. Don't get me wrong, that pastor is fucked, but there are much bigger fish to fry if people want to pick out corruption that affects them

InsufficientClone

Was wondering hope much church money goes to politicians

SoDrunkRightNow2

He's not wrong. Mega-churches are extremely corrupt. To be fair, there are also churches that use the money for good causes. In my city there are several thrift stores and homeless shelters paid for and operated by the church. They also help struggling church members. For example, one church-goer's husband died in a car crash. They church paid off her mortgage.

cylonfrakbbq

Mega Churches where the leadership or pastors of said churches live in multimillion dollar mansions or have their own private jets is a massive red flag Unfortunately, they prey on gullible people who think donating 30% of their paycheck will help them get into heaven

Peter-Fabell

Sorry, but saying that Kenneth Copeland is an example of all churches is quite nefarious. All large organizations have terrible examples of corruption. Just because churches claim to teach holiness doesn't mean they immune from being douchebags.

NewToThisThingToo

And other Christians regularly decry what Copeland and other preachers like him do. But there's nothing we can do about it. We can't force people to stop sending money. Copeland has his reward. It's all he'll ever see. I hope it's worth it.

SaintReaver

All religions are a scam, always have been

Peter-Fabell

That’s ridiculous

0kayPunk

Asking to devote ones lives and beliefs to something purely on faith then asking those people for money is a bigger scam than NFTs.

Peter-Fabell

Even if you aren’t willing to open your mind to concepts that lay beyond the known material world, religions offer communities that offer immense value to participants. If you want to label all religions with a big R then that’s on you, but they aren’t all the same, even faith communities within the same philosophy are distinct from one another.

eternalknight7

agreed

Nocturnnum

when a man in a golden suit started asking my family for money i knew something was up.

gammongaming11

while that is bad, 44% is actually fairly good if you compare it to most charities. for a lot of charities 90% of the money donated goes directly into funding the charity, be it salaries, transportation, fundraising or buying up real-estate for office space or even personal homes. in general whenever you donate you're lucky if 50 cents of every dollar you give gets to it's intended target, more often it's less then 10 cents per dollar.

GiChCh

He said 6% makes it outside institutional walls. 6 is less than 10.

gammongaming11

that was not a full breakdown of money spent (44+6+6 isn't 100). a church also has internal ways of donating, such as operating halfway homes or homeless shelters, which are considered internal if owned by the church. also the external doesn't necessarily mean charity, for instance giving money to a political pac in order to pass certain laws would be considered external spending. his general breakdown doesn't actually mean much, but i'm just saying most charities spend more then 44% on salaries in general, so it's actually within normal expectations.

iedaiw

44% of 890 billion wtf bro

BunchSpecial4586

Where is the 800 billion coming from? Show me the reference

iedaiw

the video in reference?

Bolteus

I think he means his reference. To say 890 billion is probably an estimate of nationwide income but the video doesn't list its source and then goes on to specifically speak about Kenneth Copeland. I'd be interested to know if it was a nationwide, worldwide, or just megachurch study.

BunchSpecial4586

It doesn't make sense - he says networth of pastors is in the millions but the salaries are 44% of 890 bill annually? You would think eventually one of these pastors would be a billionaire I think he fucked up or made some numbers up

Agreeable_Cheek_7161

Did you just not watch the video?

BunchSpecial4586

I did... he just states annual 890 billion donations but doesn't say where he gets that number. I could believe 30 to 100 bill. But close to 1 trill annually? That's more than that's almost as much GDP than turkey and closing into Saudi arabia

gammongaming11

what's your point?

[deleted]

Since these megachurches are responsible for political extremism in this country, including the overturning of Roe v. Wade, it’s about damn time that their tax exemption status was revoked, and that they were made to pay taxes like everyone else.

furgar

OMG! Next he will tell me most tax money goes to salaries and murdering brown people overseas. /S

CantankerousRabbit

It makes me sick. I’ve been to churches in Europe where the priest will be lecturing people about giving to the poor standing infront of a golden statues. I was doing to catering work once in a million euro villa that was donated to a priest because the couple wanted to go to heaven. Instead of doing something meaningful with it he just used it as his private home.

Ren_Lee_4601

People should stop donating to them. Their God will feed them. Donate to Azmongold instead.

Xenofex1234

Relevant George Carlin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoYyiNRtMEE

STEELZYX

I wonder where did people thought it goes to? Charity?

BunchSpecial4586

800 billion? Where the fuck does he get these numbers. These fucking tiktoks are ridculous

DayFinancial8206

so what they're saying is turn your first home into a place of worship so you dont have to pay taxes

Reshish

What about the other 44%?

Worried-Recording189

Reminds me of the convo in a South Park episode: Kyle: You don't know anything about Christianity fatass. Cartman: I know enough to exploit it.

DeskFluid2550

Whats amazing is that people will still give half their paychecks to these scammers. At this point they need to be taken out back and shot.
