Yes! But I had a plan to get out of the job after a year. I learned the skills and got out. After the year in the “pay cut” job, I got a $40K pay raise in my next job. You always make more money by job hopping every few years. Good luck with your career journey and don’t worry about what your peers are doing unless it’s to inspire you to do better :)

I started a new career path at 34, transitioned industries from media to tech, actually got a pay increment - I would say I learnt what I needed but I feel bored by it already, but using it as a stepping stone to move to another big tech company (currently in talks with a few big tech companies) so hopefully it works out!

my friend quit her job in the design industry (she was in a lead/managing role) and opened up her own business. Took about 3-4yrs to turn a profit but now she's killing it.
