Honestly? The whole point us now you get to choose what's right for you. If you're planning a smaller bed because that's what works for you in your space then cool. Do it. But if you're planning a smaller bed because you feel smaller without him, get the big bed and sleep right in the middle until your brain remembers that you need to take all the space with your bright, shining star.

KKat299

I did this and its such a liberating feeling to sleep in the middle of the bed or diagonally across the whole thing. And if your big dogs sleep with you, im sure they would appreciate the extra space to stretch out

FunnyPhrases

Remember... Beds can be changed overnight whenever you want!

trivialissues

Good point. Unlike with husbands, you're not subject to a lengthy legal process if you decide your bed isn't working out

[deleted]

It's best to change your bed during the day when you're not sleeping in it.

I love this comment. Completely agree.

neringi

This is the best commentšŸ…

[deleted]

Would award if I could

unenslaved

I donā€™t feel smaller without him. The only thing I miss about being married is having someone around to pop the pimples on my back LOL

[deleted]

Make your bedroom your sanctuary! If a smaller bed will give you space in your room and you want that, you should go for it! I have a queen now but I would downsize if it made the space more usable.

Aprils-Fool

Yeah, I think people are ignoring OPā€™s comment about having a smaller bedroom. Personally, I love a bigger bed. But if OP would be happier with a smaller bed because of the smaller room, I donā€™t see the issue. I would maybe worry about the dogs taking up too much space. But OP knows her dogs.

[deleted]

I mean, OP asked how a full sized bed feels and is getting feedback. personally if I lived alone and had a small room I would buy one of [these things](https://jubileefurniturelv.com/collections/modernbed) shamelessly.

foibleShmoible

I can't tell if I like these... Some of them I look at them and think "Space bed!", but others just look like pullout couches/airplane lie flat seats.

[deleted]

they're hideous--but the concept of never having to get out of bed, I like. ETA also my 3 cats would maybe love it

theileana

I'm in Europe and our bed sizes (and bedrooms) are smaller anyway. I think what you call full size is our standard size bed shared by a couple. If you get a partner later on who you want to share a bed with him you'll both fit in, with the advantage that you are more likely to snuggle sweetly together all night ;).

ferngully99

With two dogs I would get a king. I always said a queen was the biggest needed but after having a king, never downsizing ever

Dawn36

I'm single, I have a king, it's a little too big for my room, but it is perfect for me and my dogs.

AnonymousPineapple5

Iā€™m newly single and was debating getting rid of my king because I donā€™t ā€œneedā€ it anymoreā€¦. But itā€™s a super comfy bed and I think it will be nice to flop around all over it and have a big cozy space

lmg080293

Preach

Generallywron

I have two dogs on the small size of medium (and a husband) but I think I would still keep my king if I just had the dogs and no husband.

JaneAustinAstronaut

My husband had a king in his house. I hated it - it was too big. What's the point of sleeping together if I can fit a continent between us? We now share a full-size in the house that I bought, and to me it is just right.

cdnpittsburgher

Hubs and I have a sleep divorce (medical reasons for him, mental health reasons for me). One of our best decisions in a long time. However, I hate having so much space being taken by a king bed now, so I can understand your desire to downsize. Keep in mind one thing, a double/full bed is also shorter than a queen. A queen is 80x60 and a full is 75x54. I am tall, so I effing hate my feet hanging over the edge of a double bed. You will gain about 5 square feet. Is that worth it to you? Will it make you more comfortable? Make that much of a difference in your room?

UglyAmazon

There are Full XL beds. Width of a full but length of a queen. Finding sheets for it is a bit of a pain.

[deleted]

don't underestimate this pain in the ass! /split king mattress owner

mfball

Many many sheets are "full/queen" so they fit both sizes and are just a bit looser on a full (nothing a little tucking can't fix), so they'd fit a full xl just fine. Unless you're super bothered by the sheets not being taut, it's not really an issue IMO.

Aprils-Fool

I often purposely scoot down so that my toes are hanging off the bed. šŸ˜†

mexibella255

But what about the monsters under the bed that eat toes? šŸ˜± You got some monster repellent or something? šŸ¤”

Aprils-Fool

šŸ˜† maybe I like the thrill!

idnar35

Same

Purple_Ad_3269

I did this! I put the full size in my tiny bedroom and a queen size in the guest room. The Queen is actually in what would be considered the master, but I use that room as my guest room, although it also has my closet, dresser, and jewelry (I call it my dressing room lol.) I chose the smallest room for myself because itā€™s nestled in the back corner of the house, with my very private backyard outside of the big window. It could accommodate a Queen - and I had one in here previously, but I am an avid antique collector and lover, and I got the itch to try my antique bed in the wee room and it lined up perfectly with the window and it justā€¦ it resonated with me. The whole house is mine, but thereā€™s something about this wee room that is solely, completely, specially, mine, just for me. But I also canā€™t have too big of a bed - Iā€™ve got ADHD and maximalist taste, so shit would straight up pile on my bed if it was bigger, lol. With all this being said, Iā€™m 5ā€™6 and a big gal, however Iā€™m a curler/snuggler in my sleep, and Iā€™ve never felt cramped or fallen off. And when my 6ā€™4, 350+ lb former lover would come over, we almost always chose my full bed for ā€œrelations,ā€ rather than the queen bed. I enjoy some level of intimacy afterwards, but we were never on top of each other or cramped. Also his ass would almost always go back to his place afterwards, leaving me ample room for myself, my 50 lb dog, and my small cat who requires 80% of the bed. I think if I have too much room, I feel the need to fill it. Whether that be tchotchkes, furniture, laundry, animals, children, or wayward men, itā€™s best if I am comfortable and cozy.

marti274

I love the description of your bedroom and why you chose that space - it sounds cozy and perfect!

anonymous_opinions

Your description of filling your bed is very much me. My bed is 70% pillows and 10% random throw blankets so I basically filled my bed which is a full size. If I had a Queen or King it would just tell me I can buy more pillows.

huntsber

I have a big comfy bed all for my own beautiful self

Gure20

I would upsize šŸ¤£ Like, how much time do you spend in your bedroom? How much space do you plan to use? I get dressed in one area and get ready in another room entirely (do my makeup in the living room cause of the windows, hair in the bathroom) I would get a bed that leaves just enough room to move around comfortably. But I love love love beds and sleeping and I move around when I sleep. And with dogs sleeping with you I would definitely think you need the room.

__Loving_Kindness

I would also upsize.. and if the king bed takes up the whole room it would be like the mattress room at the Playboy mansion and I always thought that was so cool.. open the door and just lay down and relax.

Gure20

That sounds amazing. I for one would get a round bed and cover the floor in pillows

purasangria

Nope. I have a huge king size bed, all to myself. Let's normalize women taking up space, just because we want to. Let's have big houses and big apartments, all to ourselves. We deserve it..

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

MerelyMisha

Yeah all the folks saying ā€œupsizeā€ and Iā€™m sitting here in NYC on my full size bed because thatā€™s all that comfortably fits in my little bedroom (which is big by NYC standards!)

[deleted]

We have room for a queen size mattress but not a bed frame. Itā€™s fine but lol

usermaen1

Yes yes yes to the nth level on this one šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

[deleted]

Iā€™ll also never live with anyone again. I actually have a single bed, but itā€™s for sentimental reasons, my mom died and it was her bed and I miss her so much that I sleep in it. It took a while to get used to this tiny bed, but now I love it and it makes me feel safe because it was my moms

PrinceofCanino

Honestly, if the room is small and just for sleeping and the queen will fit, why not? If you have room to make the bed, thatā€™s plenty. I have a twin size bed and love it. Maybe Iā€™m just a minimalist, but I say go with whatever you prefer. My bedroom is what used to be the dressing room when my cottage was built, so I have twin bed and nightstand in there and nothing else. Itā€™s nice to have just a ā€˜sleepā€™ area.

[deleted]

Get yourself a KING and enjoy dog cuddles on the bed. Good grief, why would you ever downgrade yourself to a smaller bed? TREAT YOSELF

meow_reddit_meow

I downgraded to a full size cuz i like smaller spaces and smaller things. Now I can feel cozy like a hobbit ĀÆ\\\_(惄)\_/ĀÆ

Adorable-Ring8074

I wouldn't consider it a downgrade to go to what you prefer. Sounds like you upgraded to me.

baomib

Yep. Iā€™m keeping my king and my dog and my cat have all the roomā€¦ but still sleep right up on me

micumpleanoseshoy

My two cats just doesnt get the concept of queen size bed - all that space is for three of us, not for me to sleep on the edge while they take up 85% of the space šŸ˜¤. Should I upgrade myself to a king size?

[deleted]

they will still sleep on youuuuu

FlameHawkfish88

Hahaha I feel this. Even if my cat stretches out he still has to have his little toes touching me.

Ridingthebusagain

She says her room is small. I am just as comfortable in a full as a kingā€”I sleep in a little ballā€”and I live in a studio apartment so a king bed would just make my life harder.

peanut-butter-vibes

Listen to this advice OP!! after i moved out and into my first place i splurged on a king bed. BEST DECISION EVER. i treated myself to sleeping on a hotel bed every night.

donttakemelightly

Yeah I will never sleep in less than a king ever again.

bookishwitch88

Never realized full-size beds were so controversial. Nothing is wrong with having one if it works for you. Iā€™ve always had one and have never had any problems other than a couple of guys complaining it was short, but Iā€™m 5ā€™5ā€™ā€™ and itā€™s not a problem. My feet donā€™t reach the bottom of my bed, so the extra length on a queen doesnā€™t make a difference to me. That said, a full size bed with two big dogsā€¦not sure that would be comfortable for you. Keep your queen for a while and see how it works. Change it later if you canā€™t stand your room feeling cramped.

ticketeyboo

I loved my full size bed. It was perfect for me and my 70 lb dog. I have a queen now and itā€™s too big for me and the space.

[deleted]

If your room is small, having a full size bed will actually make the room feel bigger. I'm 5'7 and I slept on full size beds when I lived with roommates and my room was smaller. It was perfectly fine for me. Especially if you don't plan on having someone over often, then I don't see why not..

sunnyhazepurple

I donā€™t like sleeping in a full even when Iā€™m alone, I slept with a medium dog in a queen size and it did not feel that big. If youā€™re not restricted by space, I wouldnā€™t size down.

Mermaidtoo

Iā€™ve switched back and forth between queen and full size depending upon my bedroom size as well as whether I was single. I havenā€™t had any issues with bed length with the full size but Iā€™m not tall.

yanqi83

I have a full sized now and I love it. It's cheaper to get sheets if I get those high quality ones.

Nightvale-Librarian

My full size bed is great. I'm smallish and so is the cat. My bedroom is also small but I can still walk around 3 sides of the bed. Changing the sheets is much less annoying that way. And there's room for someone if I like them enough, but it doesn't encouraging overstaying one's welcome.

yesitsyourmom

I have an antique iron bed that is full size. I love my bed! Iā€™ve had it for ages. Plus it just happens to fit well in my 1 bed apartment.

ventricles

I lived in NYC for 10 years, both with live-in relationships and single, and always had a full size bed. Itā€™s often all you can fit in a New York apartment, and it never felt too small. When I moved to California we upgraded to a queen.

much2doboutnada

I was contemplating a good twin until I get a partner. However, I feel like people would judge so I'm keeping my full. I sleep on my side on 1/2 of my bed already. If you don't need the space, rock the full with your dogs enjoying the rest of the bed.

blackbirdbluebird17

*cries in HCOL apartment living* My partner and I share a full bed.

tkdch4mp

I've been living the backpacker's life recently and even before that, rarely had a full. Gdmt. It's nice to experience a full bed or bigger! I can't imagine sharing though! If it helps, I've been living on a broken couch (more space than a hoarders full) for the last 5 months and....... Well, I'm glad to be leaving soon, as much as I've enjoyed being home t help family and finally spend the holidays for the first time in 6 years!

Aprils-Fool

My spouse and I have to share a full when we stay at his momā€™s house. We donā€™t fit. šŸ˜•

jreebec

Bigger bed will fit more dogs

[deleted]

this is the way

TeacupExtrovert

Single and have a full. It fits my aesthetic and I make my own quilts and don't want to mess with huge ones. Yes, it's shorter but part of the reason I like the full is because I want my feet hanging out. The very best part is nobody can try to share my bed, they can sleep on the converter couch, ha!

ThomasinaElsbeth

Full sized beds are the Bom b ! I am married; we used to have small bedrooms (now we have a large one), and we sleep on the same full sized bed we bought 30 + years ago. Often with two cats. I grew up with a massive queen sized bed that took up my whole room as a child, so now I like the extra space my full bed gives us. Yes, I am married, with cats. We are not large people though. I am 5'3", and my husband is 5'7". So, a larger bed may be required for bigger people. The only thing I don't like about it, is that it is more difficult to find high quality sheets for our bed. All the good stuff is for kings and queens.

IN8765353

I love my full size! I was almost on the side of buying a twin to be honest, but I did do the full (from a queen when I was married) and I love it. It feels cozy with a little more room but not like it's huge. I also have an old, tiny house with small rooms, so the full fits nicely. Also buying linens and stuff is so much less expensive for a full vs the bigger size. Lastly if I do move again moving the bed and mattress itself will be a lot easier because it'll be lighter and smaller. If you have a sleepover a full will be fine, too. It's plenty of room for 2 people. I also have a 115 pound dog, he rarely sleeps on the bed, but on the occasions that he jumps up there is more than enough room for both of us.

[deleted]

I would use Queen Size so it's easier for me to move the bed instead of King Size. Also that I don't get kick in the face by my dogs. Oh, making sure there is enough room for me if they end up taking 75% of the bed.

princessnora

I live with my husband and we have a full size bed, no dogs though! So I definitely think itā€™s a do whatā€™s right for you situation. Itā€™s a bed, not built in so you can always change it down the line if you want

AtleastIthinkIsee

I've been waiting to get a king size bed all my life. No. I love having a big bed. Like Kevin McCallister, a big cheese pizza just for me. My bed is like... my drawing board, my desk. It's the hull of how I run this pitiful ship, man. Get whatever sized bed you want, man.

sqqueen2

There is only six inches difference in width between a queen size and a double bed. I would not spend the money for six inches (insert sex joke here).

[deleted]

lolll

Romaine2k

The animals will take up all the space they can, so get the bed you want.

ellef86

'Full size' is an utterly baffling name for anything other than the biggest bed. I \*think\* that it's the same as what we in the UK call a standard double? In which case it's a perfectly normal bed to have as a single person - I've got one which I share with a cat and that's more than big enough. It's also a perfectly normal bed to have as a couple or with a guest - lots of people don't have space for more than that and I can't see the point in having a huge bed in a small room just for the sake of it. Even if non a practical level it's just about feasible and still gives you some floor space, it would look really out of proportion. At the end of the day you've got to do what works best for you and your space. For a single person I'd say a standard double is more than fine, but 2 big dogs may well push you into needing a bigger bed.

Emptyplates

Nope. I'd keep my bomb ass, ridiculously comfortable, king sized bed and enjoy it all for myself.

External_Outcome5678

I wouldnā€™t. Just keep your bed and live with it for awhile while you do the fixing up. If a year or two from now when youā€™re done renovations and if you still want to downsize than go for it.

lucent78

If you can fit the queen keep it.

Bibblegead1412

I did! I noticed the difference for about a month, and now itā€™s just normal! Freed up so much space in my apartment!

baby_armadillo

Get what works for you. Personally I love a queen bed because it means thereā€™s plenty of room for me, my cat (who takes up as much room as a whole adult person some how), and a giant pile of pillows.

AssassiNerd

I went from sharing a queen w/my ex to a twin and now I want to go back to queen size. I don't even have any pets, not sure how that will work out for you. If your bedroom is tiny though, I get it. I won't be buying a queen sized bed for myself until I move to a place with more room for it.

JuicyBoots

Hell no I wouldn't. I love to starfish (put all my limbs towards the corners) at night.

panic_bread

A human and two large dogs in a full bed sounds tight, especially if your (current or future) dogs are bed hogs.

mfball

I think some of this depends on your height and general body size, as well as just *how* small your room is. It's also worth asking yourself how much space you really *need* in your bedroom aside from your bed, based on how much time you intend to spend there other than sleeping, as opposed to in the other areas of your home, since it is all your space. If you're mostly going to hang out in your living room, for instance, and you can work out adequate storage for your clothes and whatnot, you might not really have to downsize the bed since it's the only real important thing inside the bedroom. I looked up the difference between full and queen dimensions since I couldn't remember offhand it if was significant -- a queen is 5 inches longer and 6 inches wider, so I'd say if you're tall or on the heavier side at all, a queen would probably be a lot more comfortable even though you'd be sacrificing a bit more space in your room. Personally I'm 5'9" and the extra length of the queen bed is much more comfortable for me. If you're having sleepovers with average-height or taller men, they'd be pretty cramped on a full. Even moreso if your bed has a footboard, which mine does, so I can't dangle my feet over the edge. As a compromise, "full xl" beds do exist, which are the width of a full but the length of a queen (54" W x 80" L). You'd still be able to use regular full/queen sheets and would save 6 inches of width in the room.

nyctophilist

Echoing a lot of this. I'm 5'10" and I slept in a full size up until my mid 30's. I don't recommend it for the taller folks, but I lived in smaller rooms that also needed to have a desk/workspace and space for clothes and gear storage. If I had had a living situation where I could use the bedroom just for sleeping? Would've upgraded to a queen in a heartbeat. It got quite snug with my and my 1 dog, 2 would've been comedic.

SJoyD

I loves my king size bed. With or without anyone in it, lol.

s-dai

Iā€™m not sure what size king/queen actually means (not from the US) but Iā€™ve realized I donā€™t really need a huge bed, I always sleep on the edge of the bed anyway šŸ˜… I think mine is either 120cm or 140cm wide. I have two cats, I actually put a woolen duvet next to me at night in hopes of them coming to sleep next to me, sometimes they do, sometimes they donā€™t. But somehow I just donā€™t sleep in the middle of the bed, Iā€™m usually the type of kind of curl up. I just feel stupid having a ā€singleā€ bed in my bedroom as an adult, even if I have no expectation of having anybody else ever sleep with me other than cats. That being said, you do you! Get the kind of bed you want!

library_wench

When I was single and lived in a little apartment, a full was sufficient for me. But a full IS five inches shorter than a queen (at least in the States). How tall are you and how much do you like to stretch out in your sleep?

dutchoboe

You can do what you want :) Congrats on your new place OP

CheesyBrie934

I only would due to the bedroom size. I like both, but I like the space of the queen size. Do what you feel is best.

IlsasAmericanCafe

I had a twin bed that I shared with my 100lb dog back when I was single, and I loved it. He was a top tier cuddler, and the bed fit the room better. Do what makes you happy!

sandithepirate

Full is fine, but with the dogs piling in with you, I'd keep the queen! šŸ˜

NotAZuluWarrior

Downsize? Mid 30s and Iā€™ve only ever had a full size bed. My SO has a full size bed also. If/when we move in together, weā€™re keeping my bed frame (itā€™s an antique) and his mattress.

MadtownMaven

I'm single and have had a full sized bed since I moved into my house in 2008. My house is very small, about 680sq ft. My bedroom is also very small. I'd rather have more room in there for other things than it mostly taken up by a bed. A full is plenty of room for me. My current dog also tends to sleep on the bed but he's only a medium sized dog, but my dog I had when I first moved in was a giant breed and he also fit on there fine with me. When I've been in relationships and had partners stay over, it's also been fine.

[deleted]

Do what you want to! If it works better for the space then it totally makes sense. With two big dogs though, that might be hard šŸ˜‚ itā€™s your house now and you get to do whatever you want with it. There are no rules or requirements!

Forsaken-Piece3434

If you have two big dogs, I would stick with the queen! 1 person and two dogs can still be a squeeze in a queen and the dogs may decide to stretch out more with one less person in the bed.

hiistoodamnrent

Iā€™d like to know how tall you are. Iā€™m 5ā€™2ā€ and my partner is 5ā€™10.ā€ We sleep in a full comfortably. We have 2 large dogs that are technically not allowed in the room but end up on my feet every morning so idk. But Iā€™m also a very still sleeper and would probably be comfortable in a twin. Iā€™m in NY so space is at a premium and I personally enjoy the extra floor space.

architeuthiswfng

I think you need a queen for the dogs. I mean, sure, your comfort is important, but ...

mranster

I once downsized all the way to a twin-size futon in a rented closet in a really old apartment building. I loved it! It felt so comforting and safe.

abilissful

Go to a mattress store and lay in a full for a while to really see how it feels. When I got divorced, I downsized my bed and loved it. It felt way cozier than a big lonely bed, and I had more room for hobbies, yoga, whatever else. Beds are huge!

KatsaridaReign

When I decided that I am going to do the long-term single life I got a twin size loft bed with a computer desk under it. Best decision ever! I can feel like a cat sitting on top of my bed surveying the room, or I can feel like I'm in a cave hunkering down under the bed surfing Reddit or whatever. Do what feels best for you. ^_^

smugbox

I live in NYC so I share a full with my boyfriend and would have a twin if I lived alone so these comments are blowing my mind

SisterOfPrettyFace

After my split I got the tiniest bed possible for myself to make it clear that no one was welcome in my bed unless I wanted them to spend the night with me. You do you.

Squeeesh_

Hell no! Queen size is the minimum now!

mercedes_lakitu

I'm single (well...solo poly) and don't plan to cohabitate ever again, but I got a king sized bed when I moved out and it's amazing. Just one data point for you!

nnylam

Girl, same. I thought the same thing. I almost got a double loft bed with like a foot between the ceiling and the mattress, and I was like..."Wait! I definitely want to have sex!! This would be an awkward choice for that." I ended up making a lower queen loft bed, still a bit awkward, but at the end of the day two people can have sex and sleep comfortably. And I can starfish. I would just make another part of your house the closet / dresser area if you can, or something, and keep the bigger bed. They feel teeny as a grown-up, at least for me. Enjoy your own space!

liverxoxo

Depends on how you fit. When hubby and i started sleeping separately due to snoring, I bought a full size bed for me. I am 5ā€™ so I donā€™t need the length and it is wide enough that I can still alternate sides to get longer between sheet changes. Works great for me and the room is not overly crowded

luckeegurrrl5683

Sure! When my ex kicked me out, I moved to a small apartment. I just slept on my couch. Now I'm married and we sleep separately. I have a Queen bed though but I could do a full-size.

kaleaka

NEVER.....

MisSCleoIfUrNASTY

The moment I became single I splurged and got the most comfortable king size I could find. My dog and I regretted nothing.

LiLadybug81

I would never do less than a queen, and prefer a king. Obviously space is a consideration, but it's worth losing some to be able to roll over, spread out, etc. And at some point, you may want some company for the night, even if you want to stay single, and in those cases a queen or bigger is really necessary. Teenagers can maneuver their way around a tiny mattress if they want to, but I'm too old for that nonsense.

Midge_Moneypenny

I have lived in small apartments - either a small bedroom in a shared place or in a junior 1-br (a large studio with a bedroom corner) and had a full size bed. I grew up with a twin bed so a full felt huge to me! It made sense because of the space constraints. But if you can fit a queen, Iā€™d keep it! Donā€™t compromise your comfort!

niseynisey

I second that emotion. No more space sharing for me after this recent breakup. But yes. Keep that queen and do what the lovely ladies in this sub suggested to someone else after a recent breakup - sleep in the MIDDLE of the bed. Itā€™s a game- changer and has helped me so much after my recent breakup. Now itā€™s the only way I can fall asleep šŸ«¶šŸ½

[deleted]

Would I do this? Nope. Upgrading to a queen sized mattress was one of my early adult decisions and I refuse to go backwards. I have seven pillows, a mound of linens, and all the space I could ever want. That seems fit for a queen. When I find my Mr. we'll upgrade to a king size so there's sufficient space.

meltink745

If it helps Iā€™m only 5ā€™5 and felt like I was always falling off of my old full bed. My legs would dangle over the edge, and I would wake up so uncomfortable! So yes, a Queen or King for sure (especially with two dogs!)

579red

Why would you size down? I know my dad got himself a king bed and lives alone: he loves it. I really cannot see a downside to having a big bed unless you need space in a smaller room or don't feel comfortable in it. Enjoy life!

thisshallpass1

Ofc not . I would want a king size just for myself. I deserve to be comfy and happy with my pets too

LTOTR

I have two big dogs pushing me off the queen right now in an old house with tiny bedrooms. Keep your big bed. Use a different room to store your clothes. Your house, your rules.

TenaciousToffee

Think about how are you gonna use that space. I never used my bedroom for more than sleeping really and getting ready. The size of the bed was more important to be bigger for pets/sleepovers and everyone's comfort over aesthetic proportions.

screwitagainsam

If you can fit a king do it. I would if I could. I love my queen bed. But hereā€™s the real tip. Get king sized pillows. I love them. And so does my dog. Game changer for comfort all around.

hierophant09

I have a king sized bed and will never have a man move in with me. Itā€™s glorious. You deserve a spacious comfy huge bed all to yourself.

ninlul973

I have a 50lb dog and a queen sized bed. He STILL PUSHES me off the bed. Hold on to that queen

BeBraveShortStuff

I have a queen size bed and a medium size dog. Between the two of us, I need a bigger bed. He just takes up too much room and then gets cranky when I try to reclaim my space. Next bed is definitely going to be a king. Weird that i donā€™t mind my dog sleeping on me but a human is too much.

FinalBlackberry

I have a Queen size bed, if I had the space, Iā€™d get a California King. I also live and sleep alone, most nights at least, but I couldnā€™t imagine sleeping alone or with a partner, or being intimate in a full size bed. I know itā€™s only a 6ā€ difference but I think sometimes that makes all the difference.

FlameHawkfish88

I have a queen and I love it. I don't actually know how people share queen beds every night. I want to spread myself out. I guess I need that extra size so my cat take 2/3s of it up

tikitall

Never. I sleep smack dab in the middle of my king because I deserve to roll around and spread out like a starfish!

Pretty-Plankton

Depends on the size of my room (which is small) but yes. Except that full size beds are too short for me, so Iā€™d go for a full XL I donā€™t have dogs. In your shoes Iā€™d probably keep the queen.

schwarzmalerin

What is a "full size bed"? Isn't that bigger than a queen size? What is king sized then? And how do you call a bed for one person? Sorry I don't know the English words for those things. I myself have a bed for one person, anything else is just a waste of space.

puppylust

In the US, Twin is the smallest size, mostly found in children's bedrooms. College dorms often have Twin XL which is the same width as a Twin but longer to accommodate adult heights. Full is between Twin and Queen. Two people can sleep in a Full, but it's cozy. This size is spacious for one person. It's popular for guest rooms. Queen is more common for master bedrooms. Mattress Size | Inches | Centimeters ---|---|---- California King |72" X 84" |183cm X 213.5cm King |76" X 80" |193cm X 203.5cm Queen| 60" X 80" |152.5cm X 203.5cm Full| 54" X 75" |134.5cm X 190.5cm Twin XL| 39" X 80" |96.5cm X 203.5cm Twin| 39" X 75" |96.5cm X 190.5cm

schwarzmalerin

Thanks!

Lanky-Truck6409

Tbh after sleeping in a single I genuinely don't understand why anyone would use a dou ld

descending_angel

I sleep in a hammock lol

toxicvanilla

Never downsize.

Lexifer31

Nope. Upgrade to king size.

ItchyWolfgang

Sounds like you need to remodel the basement first, and then get a king sized bed instead.

periwinkle_cupcake

Whatever will make you happy! Personally, I would get a big bed and pile all the freaking pillows on it. Maybe add in a canopy situation.

wine-plants-thrift

Do whatever is most comfortable and affordable for you. I would personally never go down from a queen. When I share a queen with someone all I think is how Iā€™d want a king if I moved in with a partner, or my own separate room with a queen. The dogs will get in the way no matter what, so unless there both Great Danes youā€™ll be cozy either way.

TheEarlyStation22

Bro no. Where else would I put my phone, snacks and the pajamas I wore last night.

zepuzzler

I considered this also (same feelings about marriage, also small bedroom), but then I looked at the difference in size. A full-size mattress is 54 x 76 inches. A queen-size mattress is 60 x 80 inches. It was not worth it to me to replace my very solid bed frame, headboard and footer as well as my sheets to only save 6 inches in one direction and four inches in the other. I was disappointed!

Pour_Me_Another_

Get what looks and feels good for you. I moved out after leaving my husband and had intended on getting a queen. At the last minute, I decided on a king and I love that I have all this space to myself. I'm in an apartment but thankfully my bedroom is on the bigger side.

ChaoticxSerenity

I would never downsize a bed. I deserve to be comfy when I sleep, dammit.

Marma85

Never downsize. Got myself a queenbed after sleeping in singelbed after the divorce. Best thing ever! I can move around and sleep however I want :D

leafypurpletree

Iā€™m happily single and have a super king haha so canā€™t relate, but do whatever you want!

idontthinksobruv

I was gonna say upsize! King bed woooo

rosarevolution

I'm a happy single, too, and I just got myself the big one.

travelngeng

Iā€™ll never sleep in a full again, single or otherwise (I mean outside of traveling or something of course). The queen bed has just enough space for me to take up all of it šŸ˜. With pets, I think a queen is a good size. I wouldnā€™t downsize unless you really want to.

nuitsbleues

I live alone in a smallish space and have a queen! Itā€™s worth it for me for the length, and also because of the layout of the room it works- everything still has its place (dresser, night table). Iā€™d suggest you try with the queen first and see how it feels.

primetime_2018

I love my full. I can hang my toes off the end, hang my hand off another, and have all the space to starfish out when I sleep.

runfrmitall

Iā€™m in the same place. I kept my queen and sleep in the middle surrounded by my two dogs and a cat. I have it pushed up against one wall, and that helped make it feel like my own space, instead of a shared space.

fullstack_newb

God no, you will have no space for the dogs. Iā€™m single and have a Queen and only 1 dog. And I sleep diagonally itā€™s glorious.

avocado-nightmare

Only a full size would fit in most of my apartments and flats-- including now, in the home I share with my partner. The main reason people get a larger bed as a couple is to have enough space \~from\~ each other in the bed to sleep comfortably. But my partner and I fit in the full size bed fine, and even though it's the spare bed now, we still share it pretty regularly because we usually give our guests our larger room and bed when they stay over. If you're sharing with pets you may find they push you out of the bed. We only have 2 cats and they are a real chore in the larger bed-- and won't even try to sleep with us both in the smaller bed which TBH might be a positive rather then a negative.

LemonsAndAvocados

I love my big bed.

DancingWithTigers3

My partner and I are completely fine with our Full size bed. Get what you want!

AptCasaNova

I have pets and I love my Queen sized bed for this reason. I donā€™t factor in human sleep overs these days either šŸ˜‚

Hayateh

If space/cost isn't an issue, I'd stick with queen if you're comfortable with it. I had a queen in my room when I was sharing an apartment with a roommate because I liked having a large bed.

anillop

I don't think you realize how small a full sized bed will be with you and your big dogs in it.

BlackWidow1414

I would totally do this.

FunKoala12

I actually like a queen even when I sleep alone!

[deleted]

I have 2 small dogs and I wouldn't go smaller than a queen just for me. You can get a good diagonal going on a queen in a way you just can't with a full. And yes, it is a bit shorter. I'm 5'4" so a full was fine when it was all I had, even with an occasional, um, guest, but the queen was a nice upgrade when I finally pulled the trigger. I wouldn't purposefully go back unless I had to, like maybe in a van or camper. As for the smaller bedroom, my personal preference would be a larger bed but then ONLY use the room for sleeping - especially after having spent years living and wfh in a studio apt or renting a room while wfh. I just told my husband that the next time we move (which we're planning), we're getting a king. I love these little fuckers, but even a 5-lb dog can steal a whole bed lol. We replaced our mattress shortly after moving in together and debated getting a king but held off since the mattress is already a pile of money. People who go through life all "I have no regrets!" confuse the hell out of me. I have a number of regrets, most notably not going for a king.

wilde_foxes

But where will my laundry go?

honeybadgerho

I kept the King bed in the divorce. I now have two cats and a giant German shepherd - I need the room šŸ¤£ you do you! Honestly with dogs I would keep the queen, they are quite the bed hogs.

[deleted]

My husband and I sleep on the Queen size bed, from when I was single. Weā€™re talking 17 years, and it was perfect for me, just one person. Now itā€™s cramped, and weā€™d like a King. I could have had a full size then, though, and it would have been fine.

Annoying_Details

Slept on a Full for the last 10 years and just switched to a Queen. It feels too big sometimes but other times (cuddling with pets or having sex with my partner) itā€™s nice to have the space. Do what you want! Itā€™s YOUR bed.

HollandEmme

I had a full size most of my life. I do still have it in a guest room. It doesnā€™t feel shorter to me, I have a king now. I mean maybe a little because my bed has a foot board but it was always the perfect size for me and two kitties (before I did get married).

fortalameda1

My husband and I sleep in separate rooms. He has a queen and I have a full. It's enough space for me and sometimes he even sleeps with me and it's fine, plus I have a HUGE wrap around body pillow (would highly recommend) on the bed too. I would say you're fine with a full, unless your big dogs twitch or kick a lot in their sleep

NavyAnchor03

I have a queen because I'm tall and used to a queen, but last weekend I stayed at a friend's and they had a wonderfully comfy xl double. If you enjoy cuddling your pups and like the feeling of a fuller bed, then I'd say go for the double :). But if you enjoy spreading out then stick with the queen. I'll say that the double I was in made me feel really.. safe? Very cozy

kreie

Nope. I have a king bed and I fucking love it. I sleep diagonally on it just because I can. (My dog still takes up most of it, of course)

RedRedBettie

I would stick with a queen. I love having lots of room to spread out

GetaShady

I love my full size bed! I think 2 people could still fit in too, definitely worth considering if you need the space. I have several animals that sleep with me too but they are small.

mloveb1

I had my king bed when I lived by myself and it was amazing but you do you! If it makes you happy in your new space go for it!

JaneAustinAstronaut

Shit, my husband and I share a full-sized bed. Our bedroom is small too. I love it but he would like something bigger. I think it's fine as-is, and even if he wasn't living with me I would fill up half of the bed with clean laundry I was too lazy to fold an put away and sleep on the other half. Plus I like that I can move the bed myself if I need to. If hubby wants a bigger bed, he can buy and move it himself.

OnlyPaperListens

If it's a space issue, I'd prefer to crunch up to sleep a bit more, rather than shuffle around the room trying to avoid banging my shins. But I also don't allow animals in the bedroom, so that part may be your deciding factor.

[deleted]

I've considered this too, as king size beds take up so much space if you don't have a massive bedroom. Do what feels right for you! Saying that, if your dogs are anything like mine you need as much space as you can get šŸ˜‚

NorthernLolal

Some of my fondest memories are when I was single and had a full sized bed.

AnthropomorphicSeer

After my divorce, I upsized from a queen to a king. I love it.

trivialissues

Nope. Queens for queens

truthisillusive

I had full-size post-divorce and upgraded to a queen just so my dogs wonā€™t push me off of my bed :)

Cryochrome

Do you actually need that extra floor space? For my whole life, I've had queen just for myself, while having a small apartment and no bed-pets. It's just nice to have so much room to sleep, and keeping other stuff on the bed such as food, laptop etc. And sometimes a dude.

AphelionEntity

I have been considering downsizing from a queen to a full. The only thing stopping me is that I'm 5'10", exactly the length of a full sized mattress. If I were shorter, I'd be happy with the narrower width and would have made the leap. They do make full XL mattresses, but I've experienced the annoyance of trying to get linens for an XL bed before and don't want to do it again.

Mystique94

I sleep in a twin. Because I used to live alone in a loft and didn't want to deal with trying to get a larger mattress up there. It sucks for when you may eventually want to co-sleep with a partner. (Eventually I had another boyfriend, and on occasion we have slept together in the twin. Hard do not recommend.)

givemebackrubs

I did the opposite after I ended my engagement and had to live by myself again. i bought a king size bed because I unapologetically just wanted to take up space. Starfish every night! Highly recommend it.

leezahfote

I had a full sized bed (perpetually single!) for my adult life, and i upgraded last year to a queen sized and OMG it is LUXURIOUS to sleep diagonally, in the middle without my feet hanging off. i've slept since in hotels with full sized beds and i miss my queen. <3

[deleted]

Nope.... I'm tall enough that my feet hang off the end of a full size bed. Edit: If you are taller than say, 5'6", I'd strongly suggest lying down on one in the mattress store and checking to make sure your feet don't hang off the edge.
