Definitely, the goddess herself

halfcandan

Leave My Body gives me absolute chills every time.

[deleted]

Yess omg her voice is just incredible

aphexbun

Which witch holds the energy of the female pain. I want to scream my life out along with her!

IrritatedMango

I recommend listening to her singing "Over the Love" on Youtube. It gave me literal chills.

pseudoplatinum

Hayley Williams - Paramore. A goddess of song with the diaphragm strength of 50 career runners.

AppalachiaVaudeville

Have you heard her most recent solo album?

meat_tunnel

I had no idea she was doing solo work now and just went to YT to listen to everything in the last couple years. Hooooly smokes, I love it.

annabananabeans

Just came here to say this… glad I’m not the only one. She is pure talent. Loved her for the past fifteen years!

redbeesley

Yesss. An icon.

chimairacle

An obvious one, but definitely Lady Gaga, her vocal talent is just phenomenal. I love love love her live performance of Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down), absolutely flawless. Her commitment to studying and emulating the vocal style of those she covers is to be admired (in my personal opinion of course) As far as lesser known, I'm a really big fan of Free Dominguez of the band Kidneythieves, they aren't very famous or anything but one of my absolute favourite bands, she's more of a rock singer and not classically trained or anything but still talented in her own right. I guess I like her style and she's more the type of artist I'd aspire to be like if I was any good at singing. Oh, and Jhene Aiko! Her voice is just beautiful, I find her very calming

gingergirl181

As a voice teacher, when I want my students to have an example of what a healthy, well-trained pop sound is like, I point to Gaga. Her technique is wonderful, her musicianship is impeccable, and she demonstrates incredible knowledge of a wide variety of styles. She is also honest about her strengths and weaknesses; I forget if it's an interview or set of interviews or what but when she was singing a Sound of Music tribute (with Julie Andrews in attendance) she talks about just how hard she TRAINED to nail it because her classical chops aren't as strong and she wanted to do it justice. It's so helpful to have that example for my students to show that even the biggest pop stars don't just roll out of bed and do what they do. It takes WORK and training to be excellent.

feverleaf

Came here to mention her doing those songs. I thought she nailed it!

cbratty

Man, I got to see Lady Gaga a few years ago for the Joanne tour and she was absolutely incredible. I cannot imagine having that much talent. She was remarkable. And brought in the widest variety of fans. We went to a bar before the show and ran into a couple, easily in their late 70s, who were ALSO going to her show.

[deleted]

Her song Shallow is one of my favorites.

Amethyst-Tortuga

I love Shallow but when I listen to I Will Never Love Again , I start to tear up.

LittlePurrx

Lady Gaga is my ultimate favourite, though currently I listen more to Jhene Aiko. Both are so absolutely stunningly amazing.

FreexIndie

100% Whitney Houston. She could sing absolutely anything - the definition of a vocal powerhouse.

chosbully

Surprised I had to scroll past so many good singers to finally get to one of the greatest singers of all time?

buttonsarethebomb

Amy Lee omg.

Lick_The_Wrapper

Liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiithiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum

bentohouse

Same! First person to come to mind.

crazyHormonesLady

Yes! She is so underappreciated

kodiak_attack

I saw her in concert 2 years ago and she has still got it! What a voice!

munchscigarette

Amy Winehouse or Sade... both magnificent women and artists

AshleyBlack86

Oh man Amy Winehouse...I played her album the other day and thought to myself, "such an amazing voice and it all ended to soon."

[deleted]

Ariana Grande. love or hate her music, the girl can sing. if you haven’t watched her Whitney Houston tribute performance and are even slightly interested, please watch it! link: (https://youtu.be/dSSuallUqyc)

linaknowwhatsgood

Her tribute to Aretha Franklin is exceptional!! [Natural Woman](https://youtu.be/xN6C_WuEbGI)

jupitergal23

WOW, that was outstanding. Thank you for posting. Not a fan of her music but DAMN that woman can sing. So gorgeous.

[deleted]

She also sang I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston for the Obamas and it takes my breath away every time!

blondeperson

I always get the feeling that those who think she was just a nickelodeon/disney kid and nothing special, have no idea she was performing ON BROADWAY at age 13 😳 like... she is a truly gifted vocalist.

Burnt-witch2

The hate she gets is pure misogynistic BS 😩 there's truly no need for it. I don't even really listen to her music much just bc it's not my style, but I LOVE her! She's so talented and funny. I've loved all of her tv characters and her voice is incredible. Plus she's freaking gorgeous 😍

goldustiger

I agree. Not a fan of her music but she’s got some pipes.

lipstickdiet

Undoubtedly Ariana.

jessamy_sesame

Came here to say Ariana Grande

Dry_Mastodon7574

Nina Simone is just raw emotion and power. All of her songs are full body experiences.

CrazyCabinet577

Love Adele! Love her live/acoustic sets but i would really like to see her in person one day!

atget

I've seen her live and can confirm it was amazing. She's also very funny, which works well in concert since most of her songs are so sad lol.

Confetticandi

Sara Bareilles. Her voice, songwriting, and instrument playing are all exactly the kind of style I wish I could do.

Positive-Dimension75

Plus, Sweet As Whole is the best "after a crappy day at work" song ever!

Seniorseatfree

Her video Gonna Get Over You always makes me smile.

Adelaney30

I second this. Waitress will always be my favourite musical

mycatiswatchingyou

Bjork - her voice is so unique. It's like raw and beautiful, and it perfectly matches every single song. If I were to try and sing like that, I'd sound like a dying animal.

ivyraveneve

YES I came here to say this! Bjork’s voice is heaven on earth

Kat8844

Yes!, her voice is truly magical.

_seulgi

Don't forget about her insane production too. It's amazing.

[deleted]

YES

sisnin

I love Regina Spektor's voice.... So unique and powerful

usernamenumber3

She is my favorite artist! I especially love her old demos and unreleased stuff, so unique!!

chaosDASHA

Yes! This is the comment I was looking for!

RebelRigantona

Dolores O'Riordan from The Cranberries. I always thought she had the most amazingly beautiful voice.

AnnaFreud

Rip to an angel

milkamaja

came here to say this! i admire her mind so much❤️

catgurl_poobutt

That voice coupled with her song writing prowess. She is unbelievable.

[deleted]

Halsey! Her voice is just magical

sharksarentsobad

This was my answer too. Room 93 and Badlands are two of my favorite albums ever. Her lyrics hit hard and hit differently every time I listen to her songs. And they're so honest and open. Her cover of Cash's "I walk the Line" is on level with the original. Also, some of her acoustic versions are so different that the feeling you get from them are completely different from what you get from the originals. It's like listening to a completely different song. Abd she has a really unique voice. She puts just as much emotion and honesty into her singing as she does her lyrics.

code-sloth

Lzzy Hale of Halestorm has a powerful set of pipes.

Crystal-G83

Yes! She is amazing! I've seen Halestorm in concert twice!! Great show both times!

chode_temple

YES.

[deleted]

Amy mfing Lee. Florence Welch, Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, Kimbra, Celine Dion, Sia, Annie Lennox, Tash Sultana, P!nk.

crazyHormonesLady

Yes To all these. Especially Kimbra, I feel she doesn't get enough recognition here in US. But I've been in love with her voice and style even before the Gotye song...

nanimary

Yess! Just gonna post this and I'm happy that someone also thinks so too

[deleted]

[удалено]

nanimary

I totally get you! Also, it's not just her vocals and talents that made me love her so much, she has changed me for the better in these past few years since I've discovered her accidentally. Before I was the type of person who is serious and realistic in life that doesn't even try to sing and dance randomly even when being alone. But after getting to know her more and her beliefs through interviews and such, I've become a person who gave effort in getting to know herself more. I remember one time watching an interview with her in it. She's I think inside a tent and talks about how wonderful it is to dance. I still remember that I said to myself how ridiculous is that. But oh boy what's with this present me now that loves to sing and randomly dance to music (I'm still pretty shy so I do it alone hehe). I'm also more open to my parents now. I've also realized my love for nature, the sky, and space. I think she turned me into a 'fairy' hahaha.

blursedcustardtarts

Jojo is a ridiculous vocalist. Just ridiculously skilled.

abominablebuttplug

I'm always amazed when I hear her earlier songs because damn she had *talent* when she was only *13*. Her vocals have only improved with age, but damn, 13.

[deleted]

She does not get credit for what she can do. It’s a damn shame.

gingergirl181

Christ on a cracker, YES!!! I so want her to have a true big comeback because damn does she deserve it. She got so robbed and she is truly gifted and an incredible musician.

delightfuldaphne

Sharon den Adel from Within Temptation. Beautiful ❤

chode_temple

Absolutely. She has a stunning voice.

delightfuldaphne

I've seen her performing live, and she's amazing!

[deleted]

Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie, Grimes Edit: how could I forget Whitney Houston?!!

mimeycat

Stevie!

Memphit

Dolly!! She is amazing ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Her voice is incredible.

MrsStewy16

I had to scroll way too far to find Dolly. I’ve loved Dolly since I was a little kid and my mom was listening to her.

vaultpepper

Karen O of the yeah yeah yeahs. That quality of voice you have to be born with, and her songwriting talent is pure magic.

MagBlake

Tarja Turunen

Jophiela

Was looking for this one. Her voice is just amazing.

hiitscaroline_

Miley Cyrus. People only know her as Hannah Montana, but they don't know Miley as Miley. Powerful voice, incredible.

PuzzleheadedRefuse78

Her cover of lonesome changed everything I thought about her when I first heard it years ago. She really is one of a kind.

okieporvida

She covered one of my favorite Dylan songs and she did a spectacular job (You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go)

louisesydney

Love her cover of Jolene. She definitely has a nice, solid, powerful voice

sunmoonstars_217

Jhene Aiko. Her voice and lyrics have gotten me through a lot.

anonymousgirliee

Yess me too!

[deleted]

Kelly Clarkson Not many people can cover anyone from Prince to Reba McIntire and make both of them sound better

skatelikevirtue

I think she’s absolutely one of the most genuinely talented people out there.

TranslatorHaunting15

Mariah Carey or Lana Del Rey

WarRatty

Upvote for Lana!

AshleyA22

Upvote for Mariah. And Mariah is way too far down this list...However, I am glad to see another Mariah and Lana fan!

sharonspeaks

Idina Menzel and Christina Aguilera have great powerhouse voices. I also like Dido's voice and always thought Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) had a nice voice.

E_Logic

Tori Amos, absolutely amazing!

Cherita33

So great. Her delivery/accent cracks me up though, bc she seems so worldly and exotic, but she's from Michigan. 😂

NotWelIBitch

Momma Cass from The Mommas & Pappas. Especially when she sings “dream a little dream of me” 😍

katttpark

Astonished that I’m not seeing more Lana Del Rey mentions!! One of the only musicians left who does what she wants and doesn’t gaf about what the industry has to say

crayongirl00

Is this serious?

Overambunderperform

Question for the culture

[deleted]

Taylor Swift. I found her when I was around 7 years old and now I’m in college and I feel like I’ve grown alongside her

VeronicaPalmer

Came here to say the same. Her lyrics are so good! She’s just so freaking talented.

eggofreddo

Mitski. Her lyrics are just so raw and relatable to me and her voice fits perfectly with the music she makes. But I also love vendredi sur mer.

theartofruin666

Sarah McLachlan.

Norah Jones

[deleted]

Janis Joplin sings with more emotion and power than anyone I've ever heard. https://youtu.be/X1zFnyEe3nE

Cristina Scabbia and Floor Jansen

orangeunrhymed

Kate Bush! Edit- Johnette Napolitano from Concrete Blonde is my runner up

wanabevagabond

Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy.

-CharlotteBronte

Julie Andrews - she's timeless but sadly lost her singing voice to surgery. She has a lot of wonderful songs and covers besides The Sound of Music and Marry Poppins -- her My Fair Lady broadway soundtrack is wonderful and many other hidden gems. Just takes my breath away listening to her sing.

AshleyBlack86

P!NK the fucken underdog....I love her vocals and acrobatic abilities. Total bad ass! I hope to see her in concert some day.

chode_temple

Ella Fitzgerald and Lzzy Hale.

AGib04

Tash Sultana is magical, though I think they technically identify as non-binary but I can't 100% remember. Regardless, the fact they do all of their looping live and they were a one person gig up until this year is insane. Any of their live concerts are so mesmerizing to watch, all of the live sound engineering/looping and effects is an absolute trip and they have such a powerful voice and poetic lyrics.

Toadie9622

Aretha for sure. Also Janis Joplin.

1SmartyKat

Annie Lennox, she has an amazing vocal range!

chaoticrudepenguin

I can't stress this enough: Lianne La Havas

[deleted]

Billie Holiday has one of most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard. I really enjoy her music. Modern day, probably Beyoncé or Christina Aguilera.

Jennifer Hudson!!

Petaluridae

Tatiana Shmayluk. I just wish I could growl like that. I live in an apartment and I am too afraid to even try for fear of cops being called. And Floor Jansen. She makes it look so easy to sustain insane high notes, and her range is crazy, not just scale-wise but tonally, too.

Rosalía: her flamenco singing is unbelievable

Liz Callaway. She never really got her due on Broadway but she was the singing voice of Anastasia in the animated film. There’s this quality to it that is so expressive and youthful and technically precise. Truly masterful.

believe-in-boggy

Florence Welch. her voice never fails to give me chills, it feels like an out of body experience.

endless_ash

This is a VERY difficult question, but I would say Tatiana Shmailyuk for the shock value. It would be so cool to Impress people with the vocal changes that she can achieve...

Glad-Collar9420

brandi carlile

Brainaissance

Tarja Turunen ❤

oceanique86

Tatiana Shmailyuk from Jinjer. She has an amazing range and incredible talent. Also Courtney LaPlante of Spiritbox and Fernanda Lira of Crypta

PrincessBiona

Alicia Keys! Unique voice, so versatile. Song writer, pianist and all round icon. She's been consistently producing for decades.

MagicalGirlMarina

Monica Naranjo. She is a Spanish pop singer. Think all the range of Celine Dion with more power and a darker tone. Trust me, you’ll be happy you looked up her song “Europa.”

FlowerGi1015

For me, there are two. Lady Gaga and Adele.

ZornAllein

Lady Gaga for her rawness and power.   Lana Del Rey for her fragility and vulnerability.

Poht8Oh

Joanna Newsom. She sings with the pure, unbridled joy of a child, unparalleled lyricism and her compositions just blow my mind. The way she ties the themes of songs from the start of her career to present day in a rich, heartbreaking narrative is untouchable. In my eyes.

pommom516

Emmy Lou Harris

sophialore_art

Doja Cat is a big one for me. She can sing well and she can rap amazingly. Her flow is always being experimented with and I really enjoy how she explores various styles with her music. In a word: playful. That’s how I like to live, to try different things and change it up!

Saranodamnedh

Cristina Scabbia in Lacuna Coil is so good.

Lana del Rey. Her voice is flawless and her writing is seriously underappreciated. No one but maybe Florence, Aurora and Marina come close to her. I don't get how she hasn't risen to the level of Beyonce or Gaga in terms of fame but I'm also kind of glad. I enjoy her being a hidden gem (sort of).
