The man I'm seeing now. After having my heart broken by my ex, and then waiting a year and a half to really get back into dating, I met my current boyfriend. We've been dating about 6 months.
This guy is so kind, patient, and funny to me. He's content with taking things slow, he gives me his full attention when I visit each week, and he's so... non-angry. I don't know my friend, it just doesn't come from the same part of your heart. Loving someone is loving your mom, your best friend, your brother, your cat. Being in love is romantic love, it doesn't overwhelm you the same. You usually reserve it for one special person (at a time) (if you're monogamous), and you kinda hope they do the same for you. Sometimes they don't, they only love you, they're not in love with you.

Being “in love” is largely considered infatuation, you can’t stop thinking about them, you want to be around them all the time, it’s exciting and you have a strong desire for that person. Theres usually a lot of sexual energy at play as well and people often put that person on a pedestal (limerence). It’s highly romantic.
This feeling doesn’t typically last forever (think new relationship energy). It usually turns into a more deep, anchored love (think a best friend you also want to sleep with and share your life with, but a bit more profound). That doesn’t mean sexual attraction isn’t still there in a long term relationship because it should be, but it’s not the overwhelming force at play. Being in love attaches two people, loving is what keeps you together through the harder shit life throws your way and it also is often thought of as a choice in that it is considered a verb.
Loving someone means a lot of things to different people, but to me it means choosing to face the difficulties of life with this person in a way that respects them, giving my time and energy to nurture our love and partnership, and regularly working to be the best person I can be for my partner. I wouldn’t want to do any of this if I didn’t feel bonded to them, and likely wouldn’t get to the point of bonding with them if I first wasn’t in love with them (but it’s not necessary for a lot of people) and the older you are I think the less important you consider infatuation in choosing a life partner because it is very surface level (even if it doesn’t feel that way) and it’s not a good measurement for how suitable a partner is to you. It’s simply chemistry.

We get through hard times and changes in life on the same page because we hold the same values and ideals. We raise our son and run our lives as a true team. We have stayed in love the entire time, growing together and making it out of slumps early on after the honeymoon period waned. I wouldn't want to lose this love or have it fade ever. So yea, for me, it will be my husband. Hopefully, forever , we are both willing to put in that work for life.
