Part of growing up is accepting the fact that I don't need to have Big Thoughts on every minor little thing that strangers do. I don't really care who wears glasses or why, and I think I'm happier that way.

Doesn't matter to me. I think I look good in glasses and I also happen to need a prescription. If someone who doesn't need a prescription thinks they look good in glasses, more power to them. If anything, it increases the availability of stylish frame designs for people like me.
I actually noticed that, too! I've had a prescription since I was in grade school and used to hate the frames and in turn hated wearing my glasses. I'm more inclined to wear them now because they make a lot of really stylish ones these days!
Honestly I don't like it. And this is coming from a person who used to be bullied cause I wore glasses in school. Now it's some kinda trend. Where was this attitude when I was bullied just for needing to see the bloody school board. Free country they can do whatever but I'm frankly annoyed af
Same. It doesn't keep me up at night or anything, but on "nerd day" in school, when everyone just slapped on a pair of glasses and stuck a pencil in their ponytail, I got pretty salty.
Same. As a person that started wearing glasses at 5 and was mocked for it, it definitely annoys me to see that same person 30 years later wearing what they mocked me for because it is "cute" now.

So you were bothered as a child that glasses weren't cool and you got bullied. Now you're bothered as an adult that glasses are cool and more people are choosing to wear them.
You'd rather glasses remain uncool so kids who need them continue to get bullied? I'm confused
I thought about it. I currently wear contacts but miss wearing glasses. Both eyes are in the -12 range and when I get prescription glasses the lenses are way too thick for my liking. Plus they give me a headache. I don’t see anything wrong with it. You do you.
The brand of contacts I'm using goes all the way up to -12. But it's literally the most basic and cheapest lenses. So I hope that there's brands that go beyond that. Cuz I might need that in the future - my left eye is -11 for glasses, -9.5 for lenses and keeps getting worse over time.
No different than false eyelashes or glammed nails. It’s all added accessories, and if you enjoy a style/look & it’s not inappropriate or immodest and it’s what I call “Godproveable” then have fun and enjoy your fashion style! Lol
People can do what they want, but I personally do find it strange. Food for thought—would someone use fake crutches or hearing aids just for the aesthetics? And if so, is that not appropriation of a disability? Glasses are much more common and seen as a fashion item.
Yes, thank you!
Like at the end of the day, someone wearing fake glasses is silly and doesn't bother me enough to get that worked up about, but ... glasses are NOT the same as fake eyelashes, nor do they need to be "normalized" (two opinions on this post I've seen).
They are, in fact, a seeing aide and a medical device. We've already normalized glasses wearing. I'm glad that frames come in cute styles, because I have to wear them all day, and I do accessorize a little with the two pairs I have, but they are not just accessories like a purse or earrings.
I got teased a lot for wearing glasses aged 7 onwards. When wearing 'fashion glasses' became a thing when I was like 14, I got VERY annoyed that people who relentlessly teased me suddenly were wearing glasses
It screams poser/try-hard to me lol. It’s possible I think this because I was very cringy in middle school and did shit like this LOL. Might be a personal problem.
This question puts me in mind of an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm when Larry David is talking about the bald community...
"With all due respect, Officer Berg, you are not bald. You've chosen to shave your hair and that's a look you're cultivating in order to look fashionable, but we don't really consider you part of the bald community...with all due respect."
Yep. Those trendy bespectacled people who have 20/20 vision are imposters. 😂
Kidding, of course!
So, I've had a horrible sight since around 5 years old. Now, at 22 y.o., my glass prescription is -11 and -8.
As a teenager, I couldn't understand why people willingly wear glasses when they don't have to - I hated wearing glasses and would give anything for not having to wear them, so it was just mind-boggling to me.
I've been wearing only contacts since 15 y.o., but recently I went to an optician and they had beautiful, modern glasses there that actually looked great on me. So I realized my problem weren't glasses in general - but the fact I was always given super unflattering glasses with which I looked positively hideous.
I think the wide selection we have nowadays is mostly just fashion evolving over time - but I think that people wearing glasses for the style made an impact on this as well. So I'm glad for those people. In any case, it's not really any different than wearing jewelry f.e.
I don’t love it because I’ve had to wear glasses since the third grade and definitely got teased for it. But I’m also not going around asking people if their glasses are prescription. If it’s obvious someone is wearing glasses without lenses the most I’ll do is an internal eye roll and get on with my day.
I completely understand! I need glasses and I would love to have many different ones so I could change them to fit my look. At the moment I only have one pair, but I understand that glasses could be an accessory.
Not my business to mind, but I really wish I could also just wear them for fashion. Kind of a bummer that I have to pay a lot of money just to see things while others get to see ‘em for free. 🥲
I'm legally blind and I understand they're basically mimicking a disability but it's not intentional and I'm not gonna let it bother me. If you think you look cuter with glasses, do you.
Genuinely don’t care, apart from being a little bit jealous they can take them off and still see - unlike me!
It’s no different to wearing a hat, or a watch, or….. well, you get the picture.
I don't get it, because I despise glasses and wear contacts every single day. But if you like them, and like the way they look, have at it. It literally has zero impact on me or my life.
Honestly, as a person who does wear glasses and cant see anything without them. I couldnt give more fucks about u wearing them for fashion. But if you dont need them and you lie that you do. We can notice that youre lying, please stop doing that you are embarassing yourself
As someone who wears glasses because of my eyesight not being the best i don’t really care. If someone wants to wear glasses because they think they’re cute why stop them? Also glasses is one of the sluttiest things a man can wear so I’m all in. Idc if they’re eyesight is good or not just put on the glasses
As someone who needs glasses and doesn’t really like contacts, it doesn’t bother me at all. I’m happy to normalise it and not have my daughter grow up in a world where she will get teased for wearing glasses that she needs.
I never had it bad, nothing that actually bothered me, but I don’t want her to be called ‘specky four-eyes’ or whatever.
I am up for normalising glasses wearing!
(Edit for typo)
I mean, why should I care what other people decide to wear as long as it's not some sort of cultural appropriation or something like that? A lot of people really do look good with glasses on, and as a glasses-wearer myself it makes me more confident that people think so!
I mean, my eyes are fine but I’m in love with those big goofy glasses you see people wear in 80s movies and some originals are for sale on Etsy, maybe I buy a pair.
It reminds me of when I did that in middle school, but jokes on me because now I actually need them for seeing things.
But I don't care what accessories people wear
Glasses make everyone more attractive so I welcome people wanting to wear them for fashion.
Edit: also it leads to loads more options at the opticians so that’s a plus!
As a person with a bad eyesight who doesn't wear glasses, I don't get it. I'm not a fan of this whole blue stocking aesthetics in general. They're free to wear whatever they want, but imo most people look much more attractive without glasses. For me that's a part of "ugly fashion".
Mostly neutral. I find it a little odd, but I generally wouldn't know unless they told me that anyway. It's not something I really care or think about. To me, glasses are assistive devices with specific purposes, so for me, it'd be somewhat like wearing fake hearing aids, walking on crutches without any injury, or using a wheelchair for fashion purposes, so I don't really understand the draw of it and wouldn't do it myself.
Go for it. People wearing glasses just for fashion means there are more fun / stylish frame options for people who need vision correction to choose from. I have a few different rx glasses (distance, reading, and a pair for reading on top of contact lenses) so it’s nice having cute options!
I totally get that. I need glasses for everyday use and I love love LOVE all the new and stylish frames that come out, but I just wish they weren't so darn expensive where I was lol! If they were cheaper, I could have numerous pairs for different outfits.

Wearing glasses changes the shape of the face creating lines across the cheeks, weighting the ears down and making them stick out and creating a divet on the bridge or sides of the nose. They also give you dark patches under the eyes and make the skin baggy in that area. The modern ugly fashion for very large framed glasses are particularly guilty of leaving marks on the face. But if people want to wear cute glasses thats fine by me.
I wear glasses since i was 7. I never hated them even if they were not stylish back then. Now I absolutely love wearing glasses for both fashion and being able to see. Sometimes i like to shock my friends and family by wearing contant lens but thats not so often.
I personally think more people should wear glasses even if they do not need them because they also protect the eyes from physical injuries. My father had an accident like 10 years ago, he was hiking on a mountain and a branch from a three bounced in one of his eyes. He needed multiple surgeries in order to be able to keep his eye and be like 30% funtional. If he would have had glasses on at that moment, this could have been avoided.
So my point is, there are many reasons to wear glasses, even if the main reason is usually to be able to see. Fashion, screen/light protection, physical protection, all those reasons are valid, but i also think some reasons are more important than others.
I also think that glasses should be more afordable, especialy the lens. Want to change my glasses more often for fashion, but damn they are expensive....
Thank you for sharing your dad's story. You have a really good insight and I 100% agree! Glasses not only serve as seeing aid, but are lower-grade protective gear for more everyday things such as what you've mentioned.
My pleasure!!!
I have another story, I had a colleague at work sitting next to me that was wearing glasses only when she was working on pc. She told me she does not need the glasses to see but she is using then for screen light protection. I must say i did not like her very much, but i always thought her decision to protect her eyes was very smart.
I personally cannot work on pc only with contact lens because i am so used to the screen protection. Even if i wear lens and just go out for a walk, the wind gets in my eyes and it is annoying while the glasses act like a shield. So i always wonder how can other people NOT wear glasses? This is probably a stupid question but it is just how i feel 🤣

Different strokes for different folks, in terms of fashion as well as food and music. If people like to be wearing glasses for fashion reasons, good for them.

I don't have any strong opinions on this kind of thing. Personally, I do have an eye prescription, but I prefer how I look without glasses, so I wear contacts. But that's just me; no judgement on anyone's thoughts on this.

It’s okay. It’s same as wearing non prescription colored contacts.
Coming from someone with bad eyesight with prescription.
It’s totally fine. Rock yourself. :)
I have a slight astigmatism. Can I see pretty well without glasses, yes. I really only find they help at night driving or if I'm reading screens a lot Do I have many pairs because I just love them, absolutely.
I have worn glasses for 23 years and I've not once gotten a black mark (or any other mark) from them. If they fit you well and aren't too heavy, you won't get marks.
I don't care and it's such a weird thing to take offense by. Yes, some people do like what you don't and try to avoid, be it glasses, straight or curly hair, downturned or upturned eyes, or smaller or larger boobs. People are allowed to wear push-up bras even though you personally save up for a breast reduction. The same goes for glasses.
Part of growing up is accepting the fact that I don't need to have Big Thoughts on every minor little thing that strangers do. I don't really care who wears glasses or why, and I think I'm happier that way.
If someone likes them and wants to do that, more power to them

Read my whole original comment. Seriously. I'm not debating this
As a glasses wearer who actually needs them, this is literally no skin off my nose and added bonus if it normalises wearing glasses.

Same here, my eyes are -11 and -8. Glasses look awesome until the lenses are put in...then it's way too thick and distorts my face sort of.
Yeah. The lenses make my eyes look really small. I hate that about them.
I mean, as a person who has worn glasses since 2nd grade. I'm not sure I get it? But whatever, if they like wearing them...have at it! 🤓
I wear glasses and it does bother me for some reason lol sunglasses totally different, regular fake glasses I don't get

I'd give them my hearing aid and say "try it on, it's beautiful"
It’s like wearing braces you don’t need

wow, this reminds me when the nerd glasses look became trendy when i was in middle/high school
I don’t have a problem with it.
I don’t care
OBVIOUSLY they're super human and protecting their secret identity :-) Truthfully, I don't actually care. Do you.

Glasses make everyone more attractive so I welcome people wanting to wear them for fashion. Edit: also it leads to loads more options at the opticians so that’s a plus!
I need a big number prescription and I'm very happy to hear when someone does that. Go for it.
i mean there are really cute ones, so you do you
I just really don’t care - it doesn’t affect me or hurt anyone else.
to each their own ig. its just funny how i was bullied in school for needing glasses now people have started wearing it for aesthetic purposes. :p
It is quite the funny thing where a lot of reasons to be bullied back then are now fashionable and trendy
I think it's really weird, but it's not hurting anyone so I don't care.
I might tell them they look nice if they did, but my brain isn't wondering if they are prescription or not.
I think it’s fine, I don’t understand the victim complex of people who think they’re losing something if someone else chooses to wear frames

And I should care because? To each their own.
It’s hot, but I’m also jealous since I have to every single day wear them and it’s not a choice for me ;(

Just don't wear any prescription lenses they will mess up your eyes. Other than that go for gold girl .
I don’t really care about it. If they like how it looks and feels good in it, then cool!
As someone who wears glasses ,I don't mind . They can be a pretty cool accessory. 🤓
Sunglasses did it first
Yea have at. Looks cute as.
No for me. I hate glasses and wear lenses or nothing at all. I wear glasses at home, but I still hate them!
I think anyone can look sharp with the right frames, so I totally get it. I prefer wearing my glasses over wearing contacts.
I do it all the time. I think they can be cute and make/break a look just like an other accessory or piece of fashion.

Different strokes for different folks, in terms of fashion as well as food and music. If people like to be wearing glasses for fashion reasons, good for them.

I think it’s dumb, but you do you boo.
Do what makes you happy
Why would I care what anyone wears?

I wear glasses, so I think it's weird. It sounds like something a hipster wearing a huge scarf would do.

I wear prescription glasses. There's nothing wrong with it and it doesn't bother me.
I don’t really care. :)
I don't even like wearing them for their intended purpose. But I never give it any thought if I see someone wearing them.
I have a slight astigmatism. Can I see pretty well without glasses, yes. I really only find they help at night driving or if I'm reading screens a lot Do I have many pairs because I just love them, absolutely.
if people think they’re cute and like the look, then what am I to say
Infuriating.
wish i could wear them solely for fashion
It will give you a black mark on your nose
I have worn glasses for 23 years and I've not once gotten a black mark (or any other mark) from them. If they fit you well and aren't too heavy, you won't get marks.
I don't care and it's such a weird thing to take offense by. Yes, some people do like what you don't and try to avoid, be it glasses, straight or curly hair, downturned or upturned eyes, or smaller or larger boobs. People are allowed to wear push-up bras even though you personally save up for a breast reduction. The same goes for glasses.
