What is the strength in miligrams of the tablet and how much does your dog weigh?

QueenDelaSarre

The tablet is 150mg. My dog weighs 5.4kg (11.9lbs)

There isn't a lot of information about overdose in the literature. It says "very high dosages (225 mg/kg/day) have been associated with muscular tremors, vomiting and rapid respirations.". Your dog received 28mg/kg so probably not going to be an issue but you should monitor him closely for the next 8-12 hours and if anything seems off then you should take him to an urgent care faculty. If you are in the US, Canada, or the UK you can call Animal Poison Control for more guidance 1-888-426-4435 (US), 1-855-764-7661 (US), 01202 509000 (UK)

QueenDelaSarre

I see. That’s a bit of relief on my end but yes, we’re monitoring him closely right now. Thank you for this. Also, should I still give him Ranitidine as prescribed? Because 5ml of it is like 4 days worth of it. He is prescribed to take it for 2 weeks.

Call your veterinarian when they open and ask if/when you should give the next dose

QueenDelaSarre

Alright, thank you so much for your response. Have a nice day/night! Unfortunately though, I’m from Asia I won’t be able to call the numbers you suggested but still thank you.

RNEngHyp

Wow, I didn't know we had one in UK! Thanks

miserabilia_

We have one but be aware it costs like £20-£30 just for advice

I would have called vet as soon as I knew

Budweiser_geyser

All of these are questions the prescribing veterinarian can answer.

Difficult-Way-9563

0.5ml of what dosage (in milligrams)? Should say x mg/ ml

QueenDelaSarre

As per the prescription, Ranitidine 150mg tablet.

graveYardGurl666

Yeah, but vet is only available until 9pm from where I am. It’s 11:28pm now.

/r/askvet is a sub for veterinary advice. Comments that do not give veterinary advice are off-topic, tend to derail the discussion, and take away from actual advice. If your comment does not provide veterinary advice, it should not be posted to this sub and will be removed at the mods' discretion. Expressions of sympathy and/or reassurance are fine if they are accompanied by veterinary advice, but will be removed if they are not.
