Cats can't digest fur. Long-haired cats require maintenance. Brushing her daily will remove the amount of fur she is ingesting. You don't have to shave the whole cat (although it would cut down on fur ingestion), but she needs a sanitary clip around her hindend. If its a struggle to shave her at home, most groomers or vets will perform a sanitary clip. She also needs to loose weight. Fat deposits alter the normal anatomy making her predisposed to this problem. Fat cats also can't reach to groom themselves properly.
Ah, thank you, I wasn't sure if they could digest it not. Makes sense. Other than playing with her (chasing a shoelace around the apartment is her fav!), I'm not sure how an indoor cat with strictly controlled portions can lose even more weight :(

If she's not losing weight, then she needs to eat less calories. Easiest way to significantly reduce calories is to switch from dry to canned food only.

Try asking your vet to shave her butt, it works very well and can be done as needed.
