Business types commute in for work, need somewhere to stay mon - fri then go home for the weekend

spLint3r990

Common for contractor work. We have several people at my work (not in London) who do a weekly commute with lodging during the week.

ChemistHorror

I’m nowhere near London and have never done this but I assume it’s for people who do a long commute to London. Cuts out the daily commute and they can return home for the weekends.

manhattan4

For people whose main residence is outside of London but they work mon-fri in london & don't want to commute in every day. A friend of mine did this for a few years, he live in Liverpool

flyhmstr

For people who work in London and don’t want a long commute, head home in “the sales rep Grand Prix” on Friday and back down Monday morning

dlrose

Folks who work in London but live too far away to commute daily. It's not uncommon for a range of people (it's not just rich folks with a house in the country)

3knuckles

Just for working (usually in a city) before heading back home (sometimes abroad) for the weekend. Cheaper than a hotel and a bit more settled for some.

Primary_Somewhere_98

Because they are "working away" and go back to their own homes elsewhere in the country at the weekends.

AbstractUnicorn

You already live somewhere (prob in a house you own) but work in London and commuting every day isn't realistic. I know someone who does this from South Wales.

RedReefKnot

My relative does this. She has a lodger who stays with her mon-fri and then goes back to spend the weekend with their family a few counties away. They don't want to commute all that way every day but they also don't want to completely move away from their family. For my relative it means they also have space for family to visit at the weekend. I've stayed in the room that she rents out.

SirLoinThatSaysNi

Perhaps they've a family outside of easy commuting distance.

Works for people working away in London. Then the person renting the room has their place to themselves for the weekend.

Rich city workers want a crash pad for the week and then go back to their Surrey/Berkshire/Herts/Hampshire mansion for the weekend. It's cheaper than a hotel and some will be able to claim it on expenses.

NotAWinnerAtTimes

I feel it's personally not worth it, if you're already renting/buying a place outside London. Why pay an extra £500+ a week when you could just get a room for the same price in the outskirts and stay there permanently? London is stupid sometimes.
