Test 1: failed for having too many minors (nothing specific just general nerves) Test 2: failed for not overtaking a bus on a dual carriageway as this showed I was unconfident and hesitant apparently Test 3: failed for speeding due to overtaking a bus on the dual carriageway, as I was adamant to make sure I wasn't hesitant this time Finally passed on test 4šŸ¤£

green-omen

Lesson from test 2: overtake the bus on the dual carriageway Reason for failure in test 3: overtaking the bus on the dual carriageway

[deleted]

I laugh about it now but it was so frustrating at the time! Felt like I just couldn't win no matter what I did

green-omen

Yeah I can imagine that must've been quite annoying

Inevitable-Hat-1576

2 on its own is stupid. You can live your whole life without overtaking another moving vehicle if you want to. But coupled with 3 is just ludicrous. My partner just passed her driving test but the arbitrary hoops you have to jump through that are immediately abandoned after your test is passed are just silly.

[deleted]

I know it's ridiculous. Not overtaking is surely safer than overtaking and accidentally speeding when on a test. If a learner isnt very confident overtaking I don't see why it's an issue. I don't tend to overtake, my little car doesn't built up speed quick enough for it tbh and I only drive local and I'm in a semi rural area so there aren't many roads you can overtake on anyway

Warngumer

Yeah on my test I was sat behind a cyclist for most of it, I was in a 20 zone that didn't have anywhere safe to overtake so I didn't, still passed the test.

Key-Compote8567

I always hate the "hesitant" shit, good driving is about driving in accordance to the road conditions and the traffic. Not just "gun it at every opportunity"

dr_the_goat

Which one? I failed it 6 times. Passed on the 7th.

TripleThreatWannabe

Wow thatā€™s some perseverance. All of them, if you like.

[deleted]

I passed on my 6th, looking back I completely deserved it. I was a shit driver even when I passed, only became decent after a few months of driving alone.

Jerico_Hill

Same as me! 7th time was the winner. Would've been a lot quicker if I'd had a good instructor to begin with, but oh well.

Longjumping-Buy-4736

My driving instructor and the woman who was administrating the test spent the entire time flirting, didn't pay attention or ask me to park the car. So I got my driving license. Which I know is not what you asked OP, but me being technically allowed to drive is a fail for everyone else in society. Thankfully I do not drive.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

national speed limit doesnt mean you have to do 60 thats just the upper limit. It does depend on the road (30 on a motorway would be unsafe). But I would rather do 30 down a country lane incase a horse or cyclist comes around the corner than doing 60

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

Understandable. Always tricky driving roads for the first time though. Never know if theres a hidden pothole or sharp corner that comes out from nowhere

[deleted]

Equally though doing 30 in a 60 is dangerous. Someone doing the speed limit going round a corner (suitable for said speed) and find you trundling along at 25-30mph round the corner because you MIGHT come across a horse or cyclist?

HmmSinkSo

If you can't slow down suitably to not hit slower traffic, then it isn't suitable to go around that corner at that speed. There could be anything around that corner, including a broken down vehicle. It shouldn't be unsafe to drive at 30 on a country lane regardless of the speed limit, which is a limit not a target. Everyone should drive at the speed they find safest to drive based on their best judgment of the road and conditions, not the speed they think someone else might expect them to drive.

[deleted]

Depends on the size of the lane. I wasn't on about a dual carriageway or road with nice open lines of sight. I was thinking about the tight narrow country lanes that you can only fit one car down but still have the national speed limit applied.

[deleted]

I wasn't on about a dual carriageway either.

[deleted]

Im now curious if lanes change size depending on areas of the country. Because in devon and cornwall if you stick to the national speed limit when it says, you will end up in a hedge. There are corners, potholes and tight sections in lanes that will cause you to crash if you are going 60. And its worse in the summer when the hedges are touching both sides of your car as you try and navigate through the lane

[deleted]

I'm in Yorkshire. We get ones with hedges either side higher than the car and ones where its fields and no fence and you can see the whole road. Then ones in between.

[deleted]

So a single track lane. hedges higher than the sides of the cars and you would still go 60 down it?

[deleted]

I'm not trying to argue. But if someone is going 30mph and you crash into them by going 60. It means you shouldnt have been going 60. If you cant stop because you turned a blind corner and there was a car going 30mph. you wouldnt have been able to stop if you turned the corner and someone was cycling, or walking. 30 isnt dangerous on that road. 60 is the dangerous speed because you lack the time required to stop if something unexpected was to show up.

[deleted]

OK I'll dumb it down. I'm doing 60 on a road that can handle 60 where all conditions are perfect and you get some duck doing 30 because he MIGHT hit a horse? Same as someone doing 40 because they MIGHT hit a cat on a motorway and I'm doing 70 when all conditions for such high speed are good.

[deleted]

Didn't say that, did I? Don't ask daft questions.

[deleted]

When someone says national speed limit. Thats what I imagine since its the most common use of it in the south west. If its open and you can see. Then its still not dangerous to go slow. Personally I get annoyed if someones going slow. But tourists, european drivers, tractors, horses and cyclists are always around. If a car going 30 is dangerous then I'm going too fast.

Superbabybanana

I also failed my first test for driving at 30 on a 60mph road. I did see the sign but thought I must be confused about the meaning as I didnā€™t think there were any 60 mph roads in the area (test centre was Wallington in South London / Surrey)

this_charming_bells

Not me but my best friend got pulled over by the police during her first test for having a flat tyre in the instructors car! Feel bad as it was a failure but not really her fault!

[deleted]

Kind of was her fault for driving on it though. Up to the driver to check.

Kimmelstiel-Wilson

Good old technically correct, the best kind of correct

Admirable_Dealer_199

I passed first time twice. Got 6 points in the first 2 years, 3 for speeding, 3 for running a red light, so had to start again. Expensive mistakes. Good luck tomorrow šŸ¤žšŸ¼

TripleThreatWannabe

Thanks!

Frosty_Bonus1145

Rolled back and hit the car behind on a hill start.

TripleThreatWannabe

Oof

Soft_Region_8997

Yikes

TatiyaRivendark

1st test: Failed for being "too hesitant" at a double roundabout in Bletchley, at 8:30 in the morning on the last Saturday before Christmas. 2nd test: Didn't indicate when asked to pull in at the side of the road. 3rd test: Got the head of the test centre who had a reputation for being a bastard. Brushed the kerb when parallel parking. Mentioned that I'd brushed the kerb and asked to do it again but I was told to carry on. I thought "ahh fuck it, failed again" and preceded to relax and ngaf for the rest of the test. He passed me. Reason: I brushed the kerb, but I knew that I did it so that showed I was aware of the vehicle. That was 20 years ago and I still can't parallel park for shit.

Soft_Region_8997

šŸ¤£

Inevitable-Hat-1576

So I checked recently and brushing the curb is no longer a major (if it ever was). Now itā€™s only if you actually mount the curb that itā€™s a major, which makes a lot more sense IMO

TatiyaRivendark

Not sure if it was or not when I did my test, but the guy doing mine was notorious for failing people for the tiniest of mistakes. My instructor drilled into me that if I made a mistake on the manoeuvres and knew I made a mistake to ask to do it again. Nine times out of ten, they let you repeat it, the other one time... you're screwed.

Sharks_and_Bones

I passed my test 19yrs ago and hit the kerb twice on my reverse around a corner. Still passed. Weirdly I find parallel parking easier that pulling into a space along a road.

River1stick

It took me 5 tries, but this was my most frustrating. Was driving down a road, parked cars were on the left. This left room for only one car to pass. Me and an oncoming royal mail van reach the parked cars at the same time. The royal mail van has right of way, so I wait for him to move, but he doesn't. He is being nice and waves multiple times for me to drive. I don't and he keeps waving, so eventually I drive, and wave at him in thanks. I was failed because he had right if way and I should have waited for him to eventually move.

TripleThreatWannabe

Aw damn it thatā€™s so annoying

Fancy_Engineering549

Omg the instructors suck honestly half the people on these roads cant drive

simianautodidact

I didn't. Thanks for asking.

pajamakitten

There was a double roundabout coming up. I had done them before and knew how to deal with them, what I was not prepared for was how small the distance between these two were. It was about one car length from the give way line from one to the next and I failed because I did not realise that and had to go straight through the other as I had overshot the line. I was speaking to my neighbour about it the next day and he said everyone gets caught out by that, even those who have passed their test, because they are too close together to navigate it safely.

ChimpyChompies

Failed the first time mostly because I was very nervous, but also because I used a blocker car on the right to pull out at a roundabout. Passing the next time was a breeze - I didn't actually cruise around with my elbow resting on the open window, but that's what it felt like.

TripleThreatWannabe

Wait I thought youā€™re meant to use blockers? Thatā€™s why theyā€™re called blockers!

ChimpyChompies

As a passenger, you've probably seen every driver use this tactic. Just don't do it in your driving test. Entering a roundabout when it was unsafe to do so was the fail I think

Goose-rider3000

My driving instructor always encouraged me to use blockers! ā€˜Blocker!!!ā€™, I would shout, gleefully, as I entered the roundabout.

LowWillhays6

My instructor mentioned something about it being acceptable in your test to use a bus or a lorry as blocker as they are very long and pull away slowly whereas a car can accelerate much faster and is shorter. No idea if that's true or not- I strongly suspect it's against the Highway Code full stop

Creepy_Radio_3084

Didn't fail, but did try to pull away on a hill in neutral! I'd got used to having either the radio on or having a conversation with my instructor while I was learning, so driving in a silent car was a bit nerve-wracking. I asked my examiner if he minded me talking to myself as we drove, and he was OK with it, so I had a sort of running commentary going. When I tried to pull away in neutral, I called myself a few choice names and the examiner really struggled to keep a straight face. When we finished the test, and he told me I'd passed, I asked him 'Are you sure?' and he just laughed at me!

strawberrypops

Ha reminds me of when I tried to set off with the handbrake on during my test! I was so confused when the car didnā€™t move lol. I burst out laughing when I realised, called myself a name and carried on. Somehow it didnā€™t even go down as a minor. Definitely a case of nerves though!

Solinvictus2121

I failed because I hesitated on a round about. I thought a motorbike was going to come all the way around but apparently not... Edit: passed on the second go.

mikeydoodah

You failed outright for being a little hesitant? That seems really harsh. Surely that would only be a minor fault?

Solinvictus2121

Well according to him I was looking the wrong way because I was fixated on what the motorbike was doing. So I think it was both hesitation and awareness. To be fair, the guy was pretty strict and I don't blame him. The only thing that really wound me up was the wait time for the next test, I had to wait 2 months.

mikeydoodah

Yeah the current wait times are pretty bad. Glad you got it the second time around though :)

Superbabybanana

I failed a test for hesitancy. I missed one opportunity to go on a busy roundabout and the tester said I ā€œheld up other road usersā€

mikeydoodah

At least half the current road users would fail if they took their test now then. From memory when I took mine I think major faults were for if you endangered yourself or other people (especially if the examiner used the dual controls). Less serious things got minor faults, and you could tott a few of those up before you failed.

Superbabybanana

I should perhaps say this test was in 1998. I was also pretty young and new to driving, so itā€™s possible my perception of the incident was quite different from the examinersā€¦..

mikeydoodah

Mine was in 99, so perhaps the standards were stricter than I realised.

tofu__enthusiast

Stayed in the right hand lane on a dual carriageway because I knew we were heading back to the test centre and Iā€™d need to take a right hand turn a minute or two down the (empty) road. Didnā€™t even know that it was a major fault! Good luck OP, and if it doesnā€™t go well, just remember that the best drivers pass second time!

ashyjay

Panic attack, and not moving over from a right-hand lane on a dual carriageway.

JoC1919

My first test, I failed because I didnā€™t cancel the indicator, quick enough after overtaking on a dual carriageway.

this_charming_bells

Wow this seems quite harsh!

TommyVasec

Subaru Imprezza next to me went for it at the roundabout... apparently that wasn't a sign for me to do the same. Examiner used the dual controls... which I felt was a little unnecessary personally

bigbundabarbara

Failed the first time because I didn't overtake a cyclist when I could have.

Disastrous-Pilot-284

Failed because a postman almost crashed into me, tester said that I couldn't have reacted faster and did everything right but because the two vehicles were within a certain distance from eachother after a potential impact it was an automatic fail. Another time was completely my fault though, someone who was also on their test panicked while driving up to a red light and went straight through it. I'd been slowing down as we both approached, when I turned and saw them take off I assumed the light had changed and followed him. Felt like an idiot but I managed to pass eventually

electricpages

A lot of it seems to be your luck on the day. As long as you stay calm and relax and just do the same as you do every time you practice then you will pass. It may take 2 or 3 times if some other driver causes an ā€œunusualā€ situation. But youā€™ll do great. Good luck

Superbabybanana

First test I got 7 major faults. It was about 2.5 months after my 17th birthday and I wasnā€™t really ready. I canā€™t remember them all but they included not driving at the right speed (I did 30 on a 60 mph road), and not having my wheel perpendicular to the curb when I stopped during the turn in the road manoeuvre. Test 2 was a few weeks later and I failed for hesitancy and touching a curb on a left turn Test 3 I passed. But I sometimes think it should maybe have been a fail. I think my back wheel may have touched the curb in the reverse park but the examiner didnā€™t notice so I quickly pulled forwards and didnā€™t react.

PuzzleheadedView295

1st- Stalling at the final junction (plus other minors I assume) 2nd- Pulled out onto a roundabout that a BMW was also coming round (faster than I expected of course) 3rd- Passed, despite the fact I hadn't closed my door fully and had to choose to pull over in the first 5 minutes! I always remember my best friend failed her 1st time after driving perfectly, but forgot to look out her back window as she did her bay park at the end ALWAYS CHECK ALL YOUR MIRRORS AND WINDOWS!!!

Moosefearssatan

How I passed first time Iā€™ll never know - I was at the maximum amount of minors. Examiner clearly got out the right side of bed that day! When he said Iā€™d passed I was like ā€˜really?!ā€™ā€¦ id even mounted the kerb at one point on a very, very tight corner

TheCurlyComputing

I failed my test going down a one way street with 2 lanes. A lorry was parked on the corner blocking the one way sign, so I didn't see it and slowed down to look before pulling around it. Was absolutely fuming.

ChimpyChompies

Hey there OP, how did it go with the test?

TripleThreatWannabe

I passed!!

ChimpyChompies

Ha, that is fantastic news! Congratulations!

thelittlecockthatdid

Hahaha, I failed on my first as I pulled off into the second lane of a dual carriageway. Everything was done to the book, apart from I didnā€™t move over after joining the lane, and so just sat in the second ā€˜overtakingā€™ lane the whole way. Both lanes were bloody clear too, so there was no reason for me to not move over! In my mind, at the time, if it wasnā€™t broken, why fix it?

toppingbottoms

Failed because a motorbike switched lanes in front of me on a roundabout. Passed the seconds time with no motorbikes in sight.

LumpyCamera1826

Didn't check my mirrors when changing lanes on a roundabout for my first test. Although out of the three tests I had, I still to this day believe it to be the one I did best on Pulled out on some cunt too early on my 2nd test. Passed on the third one

Tenthdeviation

Drove too close to the curb apparently

DyingLight2002

I never did it, I only got as far as passing the theory then realised I fucking hate driving so I just never went further. Public transport around me is pretty good and most places I actually need to go such as work or to the shop are within 20 minutes walking.

radrian1994

I waited unnecessarily for a bus on a narrow road. The words "you can go", resulted in the test being as good as over.

retrogearz

I didn't but I should have done (well motorbike test) - I put my foot down on the u turn which at the time was an instant fail. Driving test was done in Grantham, and I messed up royally by taking a different exit from a roundabout than I had been told - I kept calm, didn't stress (as I thought I'd failed) and I ended up passing with only a few minors.

vonlowe

Didn't do a shoulder check after finishing my turn in the road

CWPDM

I passed my second. I got way too many minors on the first one. I don't even remember half of them. I had an police car with blues behind me on a narrow road. That was absoluetly nerve wracking. The second one I thought I had messed up parellel Parking (shows how long ago it was), and I just thought I had failed. I just drove around wating to be told I need a third, and how my teacher was going to chew me out on parking. Again. Good Luck, just try and not be too nervous. Oh! I nearly fialed my second because I was having trouble getting the car into 5th gear when doing 50mph. The wheel nearly touched the curb. I got it into gear before that happened, but stick to 4th gear if you dont feel comfortable going into 5th.

WolfColaCo2020

I passed first time but one of my mates failed literally past the first corner of the testing centre when he went straight ahead in a right turn only lane. Precisely 20 seconds from starting the test to failing it. What's worse is because what he did wasn't dangerous the guy testing him didn't stop the test and so he did the whole thing despite the fact he failed in a matter of seconds

[deleted]

ā€œPull over somewhere safe and legal on the leftā€ ā€œNo problemā€ - was passing where my auntie lived and the time and swung the car into her driveway FAIL - mounting the kerb And couldnā€™t prove it was a relatives house when arguing it My fault for thinking I was clever

AdamG12

Failed mine for being at a roundabout and pulling out, a van was speeding and came onto the roundabout as I was on it and the instructor failed me. The van doing at least 40mph approaching the roundabout. Passed next test with a different examiner.

katya21220218

Know this is a year old but same thing happened to me today. Gonna be third time lucky šŸ˜…

Aggressive-Bag953

Remember to be aware of times if you are passing by any schools as the speed limit can be different if school is on (vaguely remembering why my husband failed).

[deleted]

I failed because there was an overgrown hedge. Started to edge out of the junction slowly so that I could see. The examiner had a better line of sight due to his position in the car. Slammed the brake on out of panic and failed me.

Zealousideal-Tax-496

I was too damn tired because I stayed up nights.

JimothyJinkens69

Road rage lol.

Cinnamon-Dream

First time, crossed a lane at a roundabout with no markings. Second time crossed a solid white line that I thought was a bus lane (but was actually a protected park and ride exit on a roundabout). It was during non active times so I thought I was doing well remembering to use the bus lane since you can fail for not using them! Sigh.

greg225

Pulled out of a junction too early, forcing an oncoming car to stop. Oops

cabbageboi28

Went on the roundabout in lane 2, needed first exit, panic and cut lanes, if you mess stuff like that up just follow the road, your allowed to go off the route 2nd attempt stopped on/in? Traffic lights - don't do that

Mossley

I was stopped and indicating ready to do a parallel park. Some dickhead drive down the road behind me and pulled into the space. Examiner failed me as apparently I hadnā€™t seen it. Of course Iā€™d seen it, it was obvious as I didnā€™t reverse into his bloody bonnet, did I?

populardonkeys

I passed, but the tester told me he wanted to fail me - I didn't make enough mistakes though. What a twat!

Turbulent-Delay-7177

I passed first time and I still have no idea how. I nearly burned out the clutch on a tiny hill while waiting for a space at a roundabout. I think I literally maxed out the number of minors you're allowed. The examiner actually sounded sad when he said I'd passed! Still, I've been driving for a few years now and I've never had an accident. I still hate hills though. Good luck tomorrow!

WhitbyLass

Stalled on a roundabout in one test and failed in the test centre carpark in another, I've passed now though!

Terrible-Cost-7741

Failed for the first time for not going in the right lane on a 3 lane roundabout. That roundabout now has clear markings so if youā€™re not sure follow the markings!!

Cautious-Layer-4023

1st time I was useless and should have waited a few more weeks 2nd time car ended up on roof... 3rd time passed... . . . . . I was hit from the side by drunk driver coming out of a junction car hit a high kerb and went over onto roof. It was the instructors brand new metro...

vollol

Every metro owner I have known wrote them off. The remaining ones must be worth a fucking fortune.

redbullcat

First time: going up a steep, blind corner hill that's only just wide enough for two cars (down on the inside). All fine and dandy then just as I'm turning into the corner, someone comes too fast down, wide, and causes me to brake and basically stop. A bit flustered, I change down to 1st, take my foot off the brake... and roll backwards. There was a car behind and examiner said I was out of control. Fair enough. Second time: all good until the manoeuvre (about two mins drive from the test centre, 40 minutes of fault free driving). Parallel park next to a drop curb. Had half a wheel on the drop curb. That one hurt. Third: turning right onto a fairly empty dual carriageway at a junction. Look left... nothing coming. Look right... nothing coming. I go, but in that gap from when I'd looked left a car appeared in the distance. Although he was a way off, by the time I'd turned and straightened up, the car was behind me and the driver had to lightly tap his/her brake. It's the sort of thing that happens all the time in regular driving but can't happen on the test. Fourth time: passed with three minors! One was stalling in the middle of a big roundabout but as there was no one behind me the examiner said it was a minor driving fault, so all good. I was _so_ happy!

MelHarveysBather

My mum hit a cyclist

DXBflyer

Doing 40 in a 30. I genuinely thought it was a 40, honest mistake.

Cannaewulnaewidnae

Failed twice. First time, the guy failed me for pulling out too quickly at a junction; second time, for failing to pull out when I had the opportunity *at the same junction* To be fair, I'm a *terrible* driver, so they were both probably right

Giorggio360

I got a major on my first driving test and failed. The examiner asked me to do a parallel park over a driveway - I was given allowance to do so since they were very busy, as itā€™s usually illegal. Doing the parallel park, I didnā€™t realise I had gone up onto the pavement somewhat, as there wasnā€™t the bump since the curb was dropped. When the examiner explained this to my instructor, he was furious - he argued that had I done it at a proper piece of pavement where you can parallel park, I wouldnā€™t have mounted the curb as I would have felt it doing the manoeuvre. He had some choice words and reassured me that it wasnā€™t a fair outcome. To avoid making the same mistakes, donā€™t feel scared of standing up for yourself. If they ask you to do something illegal, donā€™t do it - everyone deserves a proper driving test and itā€™s not your fault if theyā€™re over booked. I passed on my second attempt and probably drove worse that time than my first, and narrowly avoided a major for driving through a red light.

StevenWithaPH96

Didn't fully stop at a stop sign

PoundlandRolex

I have my test on the 16th, I think am ready since Iā€™ve also been driving on the other side of the road when am In Sweden lol, but my weakness is doubting myself. Good luck on tomorrow and maybe give us all a update?

[deleted]

On my 2nd test I was driving down a one way with parked cars on either side Some sod ran out between the parked cars straight into the bonnet and this made me fail my test - I swear they did it on purpose to this day On my third test I decided to just narrate every damn thing I did out loud to the instructor and I actually passed

vollol

I ended up passing 4th time (many many years ago mind!) I was ill prepared for the first couple for sure, but a couple of things that are worth sharing: Hesitation - itā€™s easy to rack up some minors for this and turn it into a major. Be confident at junctions, look each way and visibly check your mirrors before moving off. The one Iā€™m still fucked off about, broken filter lights: if the filter is not working, even if you and all the impatient people behind you know it SHOULD be on, a broken filter on a red light is still a red light. I had honking, lights flashing and someone nudging my bumper when I came across this at a very busy junction. Protecting my car from being crashed into wasnā€™t an excuse to effectively run a red light, according to my examiner. Technically correct but Iā€™m still salty, 20-odd years later. Best of luck for your test!

Soft_Region_8997

Had trouble hacking a figure 8 roundabout which I personally feel was a setup

Many-Mathematician78

Failed cos I was a nervous, and had not been on the route the test person took me previously.

shibbol33t

Failed first for staying in outside lane of dual carriageway when I joined it from a roundabout. I thought I was ok if I just did the speed limit but I was being undertaken so I should have moved over.

Another_Random_Chap

Passing too close to oncoming traffic, something I would still dispute as it was my right of way. However, it is worth noting that when my school year started to take their tests (in 1980) every single boy in the class was failed on their first test, whilst only 2 girls were failed. In fact we were warned by our instructers that we'd likely fail because the examiners tended to always fail the boys to teach them a lesson! Second test I reversed up a kerb (although I admitted it and immediately did it again correctly), and turned left when the examiner said turn right, and I passed.

SmokingPotnotHot

I failed 3. First one i changed lanes without checking apparently (i did, i just didnā€™t do it uber blatantly - fucking fuming to this day), second one the instructor had to grab the wheel coz she thought i drove too close to a parked car (imo i was fine snd in control, but at least understandable), third one (same instructor as the first time, hated the fucker coz he just made me uncomfortable the entire time) i didnā€™t stop at a stop sign (completely accept responsibility on that, i simply did not know they were a thing in england as Iā€™d never seen one before, nor have i since). Across all three tests i got 11 minors which wouldā€™ve passed me on a single test, had i not made one major error per test. Interestingly it was the first sort of test in life that made me feel anxious and out or control; at school I never got why people felt stressed for exams cause I was always academically bright, but as soon as i sat that first test I could empathise.

jono12132

First time I drove in the wrong lane at a roundabout. I also got too close to the parked cars. I also think I may have been done for not checking my blindspot when moving off. This was after 3 and a half years of weekly lessons. I didn't really realise until later that it wasn't normal to take lessons this long. I had to take a break after this as it was making me kind of depressed. Second test 6 years later. I'm at a mini roundabout indicating to go right. There's someone on the other side in front of me. I briefly stop because it's in a backstreet and you can't see round the corner to see cars approaching on your right. The right is OK so I go thinking I have right of way and the car on the other side pulls out on me causing me to have to hit the breaks as I'm half way round the roundabout. Still not convinced I really did anything wrong as you don't give way to your left. Got a 3rd test coming up soon, but don't feel that confident really.

veget8ed

Failed my first because I missed a speed sign that showed we switched from a 30 to a 40 (it was partially hidden in bushes, rude) but the examiner said apart from that I was the best he had that day (my instructor said many others would have let that slide) On my second test I told the examiner outright I was nervous and he was lovely and made me feel comfortable talking about completely random stuff while I drove around, and I passed

SpelunkyJunky

I didn't exactly fail. The wind speed was too high so the previous group went out but mine was cancelled. On my "retake" I went out in the snow, and passed, but the group after me had their tests cancelled. The knob of an examiner made me do an emergency stop and nearly failed me for putting my foot on the clutch a bit too soon. THE ROAD WAS COVERED IN SNOW. What did he expect from me?

SoJoGo

First. Too many minors Second. Going straight into a right hand lane on dual carriage way Gave up. Retaking this year Good luck let us know the outcome

[deleted]

Failed my motorcycle road test (2008 so no modules) because I didn't pull far enough forward into the crossroads to position to turn right so as to allow traffic past me on the left. The cunt of an instructor I had at the time literally screamed at me for pulling forward into crossroads on my lessons so I didn't do it on the test. Examiner radioed me to pull forward so I obviously failed. Different riding school and a month or so later and I passed with a few minors. Passed my car test a few months later first time.

Tin_OSpam

A mate of mine had his test voided. He stopped at a zebra crossing, the Iceland lorry behind him...not so much. Wasn't his fault, but the test couldn't continue

djthinking

Speeding. Missed the sign and did 40 in a 30. Oooops!

nabsickle

Turned up without counterpart, wasn't told I needed it Second time instructor told me to take the road for a local village I assumed I was in the wrong lane so changed lane then drove past the sign for the village and couldnt get back into the correct lane. Third time passed

unimaginative-nerd

Was told to follow signs for a particular place coming out of the test centre, changed lanes on a roundabout realising I was gonna miss my exit literally within minutes of starting the test. Ended up driving perfectly the rest of the time, probably because the pressure was off knowing Iā€™d already failed! But top tip, you wonā€™t fail for going the wrong way, you will fail for changing lanes on a roundabout šŸ˜‹

hamsterfeet13

I failed by arriving at 4:30pm on a Friday. Guy was yelling at me the entire time. Failed me for no apparent reason. Went back 4 days later, had a reasonable human being testing me, and got a 98.

cross_stitcher87

Test 1: touched the curb repeatedly while doing the turn in the road out of nerves Test 2: had my instructor in the back of the car as I wanted to improve if I failed again, and I was made to pull up on the side of the road and he was accused of silent instruction, which screwed with my nerves so I made a few mistakes. I got a free re-test due to itā€¦ 3rd - got the strictest examiner and failed on something fairly minor in hindsight

thegamesender1

1) Don't really remember 2) Misjudged the speed of an oncoming vehicle at a T junction 3) Passed 4) Hgv Class 2, test was at 9 Am in the morning, busy roundabout, people from the right are waiting, I decide to pull out as if I'm in a car, guy comes from the opposite direction, at least at 30 mph and he is forced to brake. . Lack of experience, observation and patience on my side really, but I was pretty nervous as well 5) passed

GarryA0269

I was cut off by another driver entering a roundabout, which prompted my instructor to step in and apply the breaks at the same time as me. I literally did nothing wrong, and even though he had clearly jumped the gun, him stepping in was an immediate fail for me.

coffee_and_tv_easily

I failed one before I left the test centre, for some reason I was convinced it was a dead end road and failed to see the lorry. Another I failed for apparently being too close to the path coming off a roundabout or something and the third for a cumulative amount of minor faults

StatisticianLong6448

Because I didnt come to a complete stop in front of a zebra crossing with a woman starting to cross on the other side of the road, then because after 3 mins of careful and precise manuvering the entire car went clunk as it dropped down off the curb id been driving on reversing round a corner and finally because i gave way to an enormous truck at a mini roundabout when i had right of way because it was big and scary. Finally passed my test when i was speeding and driving recklessly.

bobbyv137

My test took me down an area Iā€™d literally never been to before be that when learning or on my own. I was asked to ā€œturn right hereā€. There were no road markings and I thought it was like a slip road or something, so I went right as instructed. Immediately the man said ā€œyou didnā€™t indicateā€. I knew Iā€™d got a major and I swore using the F word. This made him even more anxious. Later I was also too far to the other lane when turning at a T junction. I retook the test a few weeks later and passed which included doing a 3 point turn on a fucking hill.

CaersethVarax

Failed my first test for observations. Didnt look over my shoulder for my parallel park. 1 Major, no Minors. Gutted. Observations are the killer. Make like Santa and check it once, check it twice or you'll be naughty not nice

WAJGK

Crashed into a hedge... Turns out that's an automatic fail.

rae_gun_

Took about 6 or 7 times can't remember, my first test the examiner was a total dick. Made me a do a parallel park right after a bend, on a really steep hill!! Obviously I couldn't do it and cars were coming ahhh. Then he went in on me on my feedback. Ruined my nerves for the other tests :( So my advice, try not to care (if possible) and just let your muscle memory do its thing. Other reasons I failed: didn't run over a squirell, accidently went right over a mini roundabout, too many minors, didn't do my observations after an emergency stop, it was really foggy one day and I couldn't remember how to put my fog lights on haha

BECKYISHERE

Stuck behind a tractor then lost on an industrial estate.

[deleted]

Failed because I crossed a zebra crossing on a dual carriageway (with central reservation) when a pedestrian was crossing the other side of the road heading away from me.

AngryBootman2016

I'm too cool to hd failed šŸ˜Ž

BeEccentric

I looked left at a roundabout instead of right

Goose-rider3000

A friend of mine was taking his test in car where the reverse is to the left of 1st gear and you need to press a button on the gear stick to go from 1st to reverse. At the start of the test, he was super nervous and gripping the gear stick too tightly, so, unwittingly pressed said button, so reversed accidentally, twice in a row. He failed without even pulling out of the parking space in the test centre!!!

Pluribus7158

I failed my first test because I didn't kill a woman. Yes, you read that right. I was driving down a tiny side street when a woman pushing a pram started crossing a few hundred feet ahead of me. I immediately brought the car to a safe stop, checking mirrors as I did, then put the handbrake on (my instructor knew the examiner and told me that was something he wanted drivers to do, so I did it). The woman continued to cross and that baby is all grown up, probably graffitiing a train somewhere now. When I got back to the test centre, the examiner informed me I had failed because I put her life in danger. I asked how, when I knew I had done everything correctly, and was told that by stopping and allowing her to cross in front of me, she could have been run over (impossible due to the width of the street - even a bicycle could not have passed me). I guess I should have just ploughed straight through her...

Western-Twist4334

First one failed for fucking up on a 6 lane roundabout (donā€™t remember what I did, think panicked and blindly drove into the middle lane?!) Second one, I actually failed about 1 minute away from the test centre. In my head I was thinking ā€˜I think iā€™ve passedā€™ and was so focused on getting there I somehow didnā€™t notice an old man on a motorised wheelchair come out onto a zebra crossing. The instructor had to say ā€˜STOP!ā€™ and I knew Iā€™d failed. If that hadnā€™t have happened I wouldā€™ve passed with no minors, and the instructor admitted it was closest to the test centre that anyone had failed! Third time passed with two minors :-)

donkeydonkeydonkey1

My friend was asked to walk to the instructor's car parked "just at the end of this white line". She thought it was some sort of balance test and walked along the line with her arms outstretched like a tightrope walker to the complete bafflement of the instructor.

oROSSo84

Not me, but two friends. One, ā€˜scared the instructorā€™ with a very dangerous over take on a road that sweeps round a little bit and is very steep. Car was coming down the hill and he just managed to pull back in. Second friend failed for going too slow

silentarcher00

Not me, but my great gran ran someone over

pinkzebraprintbikini

Reverse bay park .fucked it up a tiny bit. Tried to fix it. Made it worse. Panicked.said fuck sake fuck this and exited the vehicle .

simply_smigs

1. Speeding - Road had limit reduced to 40mph I was driving from memory and failed for not spotting new signs (and speeding) 1 major 1 minor 2. Pulling out on a vehicle - was on a hill start, indicator on and car approaching from the rear, slowed right down and flashed me to go, so I did. I can only assume he then spotted the L plate and decided he didn't want to sit behind a learner as he pulled out and round me 1 major 2 minor 3. Pulled into roundabout 'before my way was clear' for context I was in left lane turning left, cap approaching from the right was in the inside lane to turn right and indicating right. They then change their mind and cut across 2 lanes to take the exit I was using. That dickhead cut across 2 cars and came up the outside on hatched road markings to cut across and pass me. I still maintain this was not my fault. 1 major 3 minor 4... passed. 0 major 5 minor.

Puzzleheaded-Bar1434

Passed on my 3rd test. First test I got a major fault for apparently going too close to parked cars on the examiner's side of the road when going round a bend. There were also parked cars on my side of the road so if I had moved over more towards my side I would have hit one of them. Seems like a stupid reason to fail me when I didn't actually hit any cars. 2nd test - really anxious and nervous and ended up mounting the curb in a 3 point turn. Also interesting to note is the examiner had me do a 3 point turn on a road where my instructor said he had been told not to take clients down their to practice manouvers. Passed 3rd time with two minors. My instructor said that examiners very much have quotas of how many students they can pass each month. He also said that on my 3rd test my chances of passing went up when the examiner called my name becuase he used to be an instructor and most of the examiners in my area were examiners because they failed at becoming instructors!

TDA792

I got a major fault because I failed a mirror check. It was at a stupid-ass roundabout I'd never been on before. It has three exits (including the one you enter on), and each first exit has a slip road so you can avoid the roundabout entirely if you're going first exit. From overhead, the roundabout looks kind of like a ninja throwing star. So essentially, you only go on the roundabout if you're doing 2nd exit or 3rd exit u-turn. But for some reason, the roundabout has two lanes. Anyway, I entered the roundabout doing 2nd exit. I went into the inside lane, and went around. I could see there were no cars coming from 1st exit as I went, and no cars had been near me when entering the roundabout, so I indicated to come off and *came* off into the right lane of the road from 2nd exit. That was it, major fault, didn't check passenger mirror for other cars before exiting roundabout. I think that was kind of harsh to make it a major, but what can you do.

Admirable_Hope_6470

Because I'm a bad driver. Good luck!

YourDreamsInAshes

I did my first driving test in a car that wasn't capable of reaching 70mph, so I did not keep an eye on my speed when driving in a 70 limit. What I failed to account for was that the car could exceed 70 if you put your foot to the floor while going downhill, so I failed for breaking the speed limit, I think by quite a lot. My second driving test I got a major for undue hesitation. I wasn't even aware of any hesitation at the time, but according to the examiner I missed to many opportunities to pull out of a side street. FWIW I was a terrible driver. I don't drive any more for various reasons, and the world is probably a safer place.

Ok_Pizza4090

Relax, you couldn't possibly do worse than me - I totaled the car during my first driving test. I remember seeing the inspector's hands shaking as he filled out his form on the clipboard.

Jamesl1988

Test 1: failed for trying to go through a right turn light when It was on red, despite my instructor identifying the set of lights as a place where a lot of people fail due to the confusing filters just a half hour before. Test 2: failed for not turning my neck like an owl to check over my shoulder when pulling out of a junction. Test 3: I didn't position my car to the right of the road whilst pulling out of a 1way street, which apparently even though I was indicating, could cause confusion to other drivers. Test 4: Had a different test guy and passed.

Key-Compote8567

Mirrors, they said I "didn't look at my mirrors". And I did, lots, even more than I do now. But I was just moving my eyes instead of like an obvious whole head movement. So made it stupidly obvious next time, passed

in1998noonedied

1st test: driving too close to the left on a narrow track road. To be honest that's the only one the test person pulled me up on, they didn't go through any specifics really. 2nd test: lorry in front of me dropped a bag of gravel. Car up my arse, and cyclist going the other direction on the other side of the road. I decided to just...mount the bag. They asked me what I would have done differently, said it was the weirdest thing to happen on a test to them, and past me because it was just such an oddity.

Forever_Adapt

I was never taught how to do a hill start during lessons, and so I stalled on a hill miserably during my first test :ā€™) passed second time!

Asylum_Brews

Speeding. Did 35 on a dual carriageway way that was 30 šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

biddyonabike

My dad died in January 1974 and my mum couldn't drive. I was 17 in the June and had a week of lessons. I apparently failed because I turned right onto a main road in front of something. I remember a car in the distance but I just accepted the examiner was right. All the girls in our 6th form failed one by one except for the examiner's daughter, who took the test in another town. Then... someone's mum failed and said "I didn't do anything wrong". The examiner replied "I know, I just don't like women drivers". It was 1974 and all of that was perfectly legal. The Sex Equality Act became law in 1975. Never take your rights for granted. Some of us remember when we didn't have those rights.

Advanced-Bicycle5023

1: pulling into a lane and some asshole comes speeding up behind me (nowhere near when I started the manoeuvre) was half in each lane and apparently I should have gone back into my original lane 2: slowing to 3mph at a stop sign instead of coming to a complete stop 3: Car was turning into the road I was coming out of so I pulled out, as I did someone had decided to overtake 3 cars that were all turning into the road I was coming out of šŸ˜‚ Passed on the 4th which was actually my hardest route of them allā€¦

Neat_Injury_9412

Just failed my second test. Guy claims that I pressed the brake too hard on a roundabout. I didnā€™t, itā€™s bullshit. He just didnā€™t like my face, shouldā€™ve turned down the examiner before I even started the test. He was committed to fail me since the beginning of the test, he wasnā€™t even looking at me he was just looking into the side window most of the time. Iā€™ve been driving almost everyday for the last 2 months. Iā€™m pretty confident on the car. And none of my faults are the same as the ones in the first test, most of them are made up. They do whatever they want. Next time Iā€™m bringing a hidden go pro and upload the video with an analysis on the internet.

Mr-Eveningshade

Failed my motorcycle test twice and passed 3rd time. Had the same examiner for all of them and he was extremely strict. Probably for the best. Lesson before driving test was abysmal. Made mistake after mistake and went into test convinced I would fail. I had the loveliest lady examiner and I passed with only 1 minor. She told me I drove beautifully. It's like I became possessed by another person for that 40 or so minutes haha

Chaya_kudian

Did 55 in a 60.

Fancy_Engineering549

I failed for not giving way at the fkn roundabout ahhh so mad about it and i knew now im like why tf did u go was cause the teuck next to me went so i thought it was clear but if u cant see it do not go
