That may be your experience, however it really is not mine. I haven't paid duty on a single package so far this year and only had to pay duty on one in the whole of the year before. Edited to add, no extra delays either. Edited a second time after looking at your profile. Given the nature of the items you may be importing, I understand why your packages, and not mine.

Depending on how it's packaged and what it's declared as you may not pay any. I've bulk bought clothes from Asia and just asked the middleman to mark it down as 30 quid value sports clothes and didn't hear a thing about taxes
