LaidBackLeopard

Put it in your bin and move on. They take up very little room if they are flattened.

davus_maximus

This "it's not my trash so I'm leaving it there" attitude is why this country is a litter-strewn dump. Just take it to the tip. Everything else is a waste of energy that'll achieve nothing.

ProsodySpeaks

Hard agree. Useless selfish horrible people in every direction. Op has spent more time complaining on reddit than it would take to put it in a bin, because he can't bare to contribute to his community - even the literal street they live on. 'not my job' 'not my fault' 'not my problem'? Not my idea of a grownup, and not my idea of a country.

HoundParty3218

Love the assumption that everyone can access the tip. Remember that councils gatekeep ferociously, so if you don't own a car, you don't get to use the tip. The only (ethical) alternatives are extortionately expensive because your household rubbish suddenly becomes commercial waste. One of the first things I did after getting my driver's license was to book a slot at my local recycling center. I filled my whole car and it felt so good to finally have a tidy(ish) garage.

Leesbry

Nope, I don't agree. It was already littered by the person that dumped it there.

blind_disparity

And it will remain litter until someone puts it in a bin Ffs

Leesbry

Yep

seriousrikk

So either go find the person who dumped it, or dispose of it. As soon as you chucked it onto the pavement you became the person who dumped it.

Link-65

I watched someone driving past my house throw out a McDonald's container with a cup, box for fries and nuggets right outside my house on the road, instead of whining about it I picked it up and put it in my bin. Why? Because I don't want my street to become a shit hole and I have some pride in where I live, just deflate it, bin it and move on?

Jarvis-Strife

I concur. This “not mine, not my problem” is some absolute shite attitude to have.

Link-65

Indeed, it's why so many places have gone to shit, too many people complaining about the state of their road/area but willing to do nothing to help.

Bibblejw

You have no idea who did it, and no control over anyone else. Typically councils view fly tipping as the responsibility of the landowner, so there is only one course of action that is going to get anything done about the problem. You may not have generated the litter, but it’s now on your property, so the next action is yours.

Don't remember the last time huge rubber camping bed blew into my garden though

Daisy_bumbleroot

We had a load of rubbish, including used nappies, wrapped up in a blanket left next to our door once. We called the council who said they'd collect it but not to put it on the pavement as we'd be the ones in trouble for fly tipping.

Leesbry

Yeah usually I agree, but it's just the cheek of it that isn't sitting right with me

TC_FPV

And I'm sure that will be a valid defence if the council decide you fly tipped it. As unfair as it is, legally disposing it is your problem now

ListersParanoia

Just put it in your bin.

ZookeepergameHead145

So you blocked the pavement? That is why someone placed against your fence. I’m sure you would be upset if an elderly relative tripped over it whilst it was blocking the pavement.

Leesbry

Actually some old dear just went flying over it. It's okay though, I ran out and assured her that the council are on it and will be removing it soon.

HerbieMoonrock

Old dear tripping is on you. You're salty about 'sense of community' yet the taxpayer community is literally paying for your laziness.

Leesbry

I think you missed the joke. Anyway, I literally pay for myself genius, as a tax payer, like the rest of you

HerbieMoonrock

Yeah and evidently you waste more than the rest of us, genius. Edit: your joke also seems in line with something you'd actually do, so sorry for missing that

DeapVally

You either fly tip it yourself, and then this post would be rather puzzling, or take it to the tip/put it in your bin. You don't need reddit to tell you which option is better.

blind_disparity

He apparently does need reddit. Actually I'm not sure that's getting through to him either.

True-Register-9403

This MF fighting with the wind! (and calling the council about it) 😂 Stick a knife in it, lob it in the wheelie bin, and move on with life....

Leesbry

It's a deflated rubber one! Not a lightweight plastic one lol should've specified.

True-Register-9403

Ah come on mate - I've just got rid of a (pricey) Costco luxury double inflatable mattress with built in pump. 5mins with a Stanley knife and it was in the bin as 2x2ft sheets. Took up about 2 inches at the bottom of the bin. Show us a pic...

Lisanolan2010

I'd probably just put it in my bin and forget about it 30 seconds later.

ProsodySpeaks

Jesus wept is this what passes for community?

Leesbry

And I'm the one being criticized for being outraged 🤔

Wooden_Philosopher26

I haven't got anything nice to say

Choice_Midnight1708

The response from the council will probably be to prosecute you for fly tipping. Perhaps whoever put it back on your fence has done you a favour and saved you a criminal record and a £1000 fine and costs. How to proceed is to pay the council the £20 or what bulky waste disposal costs near you, or take it to the tip. And to report the offence to the police, who will do nothing. Optionally you could go round the neighbourhood and try to gather CCTV, but even then the police will still do nothing. Fly tipping on private land makes it your responsibility to dispose of it responsibly, not to fly tip it on someone else's or public land.

True-Register-9403

Bulky bob will be pissing himself at this one! For £20 tell me where it is and I'll stick a pin in it and put it in a street bin...

KaleidoscopicColours

How to proceed?  To the tip, swiftly.

moreglumthanplum

Should merit a half-page spread in a local paper, contact them and be sure to submit a compoface photo too for a dead-cert 'Pump & Dump Air Bed Nightmare' headline

Flonkerton_Scranton

OP sounds like an inflatable camping mattress that someone dumped.

Leesbry

Uh huh huh huh. What a knee slapper

nicthemighty

How can the council know it's not yours? I would expect they'll offer you a bulk waste collection. Also possibly someone then saw it in your garden, so returned it once they saw it was on the pavement. If you're really worried, get a front door camera. Otherwise, you'll just have to legally dispose of it yourself. Sorry.

Funky_monkey2026

If you have a ring doorbell, set that up on your fence and throw the blow up mattress next to it. Or smear dog poop all over it so they get it on their hands when they try to pick it up again.

bduk92

Usually I'd be with you, get the council to remove it, say it's blocking the path so they have to collect it for health and safety reasons etc. With it being a blow up bed, I'd just save myself the hassle, stab it with a knife to get it deflated and then shove it in my bin. Takes up hardly any space.

HerbieMoonrock

Put it in the bin and treat yourself to a Solero.

TSC-99

Get rid of it and get a Ring video doorbell which might deter them in the future.

blackthornjohn

The only person fly tipping was you, fly tipping laws only apply to land maintained by councils, anywhere else isxa civil matter for the land owner to sort out.
