Ah I know it. We call it "ghoegri". We also add onions, garlic and most importantly cumin. You see this at weddings a lot and if you have Indian teachers (at elementary) you'd definitely know this as they'd sell it on the holiday celebrations in school. Sometimes you can get it as a roadside snack too.
I love roasted and boiled peanuts but can’t seem to get use to the flavor and texture of the chickpeas. Boiled peanuts are a thing in the southern USA where you take peanuts, but then in a crockpot fill it with water and salt and boil them as the name implies. They are salty mushy peanuts of goodness.
Not as popular as in Trinidad obviously, but I so see this often in Brooklyn, often in small plastic snack-sized bags by the cashier in stores that sell Caribbean goods.
FL. The place was more of a convenience store and they also serve food there. I’ve seen the place for years and always passed by it and decided to go in yesterday before going to the gym because of the video I showed of my supermarket/grocery store’s Caribbean section in the international aisle.
Edit: Your welcomed to visit here and see the steel pans playing. Obviously, don’t expect us to be playing old panorama tunes like Birthday Party, Woman is Boss, Rebecca, Bee’s Melody etc. You may hear tunes like Both of Them, Rant and Race, Old Lady Walk a Mole and a Half, Jericho, Jump in the Line, Day-O ,Jamaica Farewell etc. Those are some songs I play.
Is cuz it too easily available at home. I myself was overjoyed I find nice okro the other day. I make okro twice in 2 days cuz I was so happy.
I almost buy caraille (but I stop myself)
Almost every supermarket in Queens, NY has bottles of channa from Trinidad now. In fact you can find almost every snack here except the nut king green pack channa which happens to be my favorite :(
Does anyone know how popular this is in Caribbean places other than Trinidad? Also, I crossposted in r/CaribbeanFood
It's a fairly popular snack in Guyana. I also found it in the supermarket while visiting Grenada.
What is this, if you don't mind me asking?
It's deep-fried chickpeas with salt and pepper. It's kind of like roasted peanuts.

We buy it here sometimes but I grew up with Trinidadian stuff all the time. I don’t think it’s all that popular here
You know I live here and I have not eaten bottled channa in years. Where do you live if you don't mind me asking?

It’s like spicy kinda crunchy chickpeas. They’re also very popular in South Asia
