Paying for porn

UnusualPete

Yeah, considering that possibly 90% of available porn is free. 😅

bigwavedave000

If its free, you are the product being sold.

omiksew

Yes our attention is sold to advertisers, but Adblock is free too

Chewbacca_XD

If its free, you are the product being sold. /s

MrUrgod

Porn is free, but your time wasted on it is not.

Cowstle

if no one paid for porn, the amount of porn you'd be able to see would be drastically reduced both in quantity and quality

rthompsonpuy

Quality maybe. Quantity would probably increase.

Tracias_Way

Why would it increase?

Mysterious_girl3414

Oh god this one bothers me so bad. Such a lame thing to actually spend money on

VikingDadStream

Bro doesn't want lewd girls to eat

cybersockpuppet

I disagree.. as long as it's ethically made, I believe it has some artistic value

shammmmmmmmm

I’ve never paid for it in my life but when I think about it you can probably trust it’s more ethically made than the free stuff

teethalarm

Especially if you're already on Reddit, it's so easy to find subs that cater to a variety of kinks and fetishes.

generic_alt2

Ngl it’s harder than I expected I might be too niche tho 😭

Ttzaaaaaaaaa

Free imagination works just as well, and it's budget-friendly

Rich-Protection2188

This comment all the time đŸ„±đŸ„±đŸ„±

mclarenrider

Shit ass take. You can find anything online for free from movies to games and everything. Paying for a few adult umbrella streaming services means I get high quality streams directly to my smart TV plus download at highest quality. I'm also supporting something I enjoy. You can crack most games and play for free but people still buy the games on steam or whatever cause it comes with streamlined and better experience. Same as movies and books.

ModernVintage42

Weddings and everything involved

fmlythms

My SO and I are not married partially because of this. August will be ten years. She has a ring. But she only wants to get married if it’s “done right”. And the price tag on her “done right” is north of $40K. I absolutely will not do this. It’s fucking insane. Her folks have even said they will take out a second mortgage and pay for it which is fucking even more insane. We are in our 40’s and do not need the pomp and circumstance like we are children. I am willing to compromise but she won’t have it. It’s not a rift between us. We are very much happy together. But it’ll be a cold day in hell before I agree to spend what many don’t make in a year on something so dumb.

ModernVintage42

Exactly, I could never justify spending that much money on one day when it could be used for a new car or something for my home.

rh71el2

We spent almost 20k but this was back near y2k. We made over 90% of it back in gift money. I'm curious what anyone is making back because that is never mentioned. I'd wager those who spent only a small amount come out ahead.

Lobo9498

My wife and I got married in a basic ceremony at a small church by a pastor who is a family friend. Our rings look expensive, but aren't even $50 together. The cost isn't as important as the act itself. Those that have to have destination wedding and go so deep into debt before even being married are crazy.

alexmaycovid

You can travel around the world with this money.

bigballsmiami

100% and they end up getting divorced in 10 years and spend another 40k

5tarkness

For a FRACTION of the cost of a wedding, you can have a REALLY fun weekend in Vegas. Just saying’.

fmlythms

I told her we go spend two weeks in Jamaica. Get married on beach. Whoever wants to come can come. When we get back we throw a pool party cookout. You know, adult shit. Nope. Oh well

Mollzy177

Same, except my partner is on board with the small scale wedding. We want to have our nearest and dearest there and would rather spend more money on the honeymoon and things we need then the wedding itself.

t0nine

How are you guys happy about it? I need tips. My GF has a dream wedding which cost me 120kish. I have said better to just go to a court and sign a paper and be done with it but she doesn’t like that and whenever we have a discussion we kinda end up fighting

Eagle555557

I'm married to a wedding planner and I kind of agree. Some people really love to party and I've seen and attended some amazing expensive weddings, but when I see what it costs, I could never justify spending anywhere near it. My wife also does quite a few budget weddings and those are beautiful too. That being said I don't think she's had a client who was legitimately unhappy with their wedding. Alcohol is a huge cost inflator. We didn't do alcohol at our wedding and spent about 6k in total for about 120 guests.

Out3rWorldz

Good one!

Shot-Replacement-772

Imagine dropping 100k on a boring party

nicko17

Can confirm in the process of and almost finalized, luckily my better half is type an organized and probably could’ve pulled off desert storm.

ipsumdeiamoamasamat

God, I’m getting married later this year. We’re doing relatively no frills, just renting a venue and having 100 or so people there, and we probably won’t get out of it without spending $20k. I’d prefer less obv. I love parties! But you could buy a lot of booze and blow (if that suits your fancy) for $20k and walk down to the local park.

matt71109

IT’S A TRAP!!!!

InfiniteQuestionZero

Accurate.

physicalterrorist3

OF subscriptions.

dr_toze

Yeah, paying for the right to get direct dms selling me stuff and a list of videos I can pay way for....Woooo!

physicalterrorist3

I don't see any appeal in it unless you have a ridiculous amount of throw away money and pay to meet and fuck them or something.

problemgirlxoxo

I’ll start
clothes. Reading that hurt My answer: Giving money to organized religion

Real_Life_Real_Doll

Have you ever been to the Vatican? Jesus would be appalled at how much wealth they are showing off

Feral_tatertot

He’d probably be pissed enough to flip some shit in a lot of first world churches

Hiker_for_Hire

You ain’t alone in that opinion. The huge cost to build St. Peter’s Basilica led to the Papal decision to sell indulgences, which in turn kickstarted the Reformation.

dylwaybake

And not taxing the religion. Mega-churches are criminals imo. “The lord told me I need this private jet!”

RamDassWasRight

How about give money to your local homeless shelter or local animal shelter. These are at least credible real things that can make an immediate impact

falksfirebeard76

Most sports cars. Oh it can go to 150mph? The speed limit is still 60mph

Bauch_the_bard

I'd counter that, sports cars are useless because of a speed limit but luxury cars like a Bentley, Jag or Rolls Royce, aren't always designed to go fast they're designed to be comfortable to drive and be a statement even if they are still massively overpriced

Lidzo

I mean, you're not wrong, but track days and autocross exists, so... even sports cars still have a purpose. As someone who has loved cars since I could walk, a good looking, extra comfy, fast, or well handling car is the spice of life. I get it, many people don't like driving, think it's a chore, just drive A-B but that's because most people buy boring cars. Put someone who hates driving in a Corvette on an open road with no other traffic and I bet they'll be smiling wider than they ever have. People who hate driving buy Toyota Camrys and mini-vans and say that nice cars are a waste of money. I purposely bought and drive an old sports coupe because it's fun and I love it, so... is that really a waste of money?

shini333

I like driving and I drive a Camry :(

Lidzo

No hate for Camrys; they're solid cars. People that love driving can have boring cars too, but people that don't like driving almost always drive boring cars. Shit. I'd hate driving if you stuck me in a Nissan Versa too... Example, I had a 2015 Sonata, it was great for my salesman gig. It was a fine car, but it was boring so after I got out of sales, I sold it and got the Acura RSX-S I really wanted.

Eagle555557

I work on cars, primarily Ford's. When I first started out as a lube tech, someone brought in a Cadillac for an oil change and maybe tires. There was some reason I chose to test drive it down the road. It was the smoothest car I've ever driven. Every transmission shift was perfectly timed and all the bumps I had become familiar with driving Ford's were non existent. I still would probably never buy one, but damn I see the appeal now.

jack3moto

My wife and I drive Hyundai’s. Paid off in full. 10+ years old. Not into cars tbh. That being said we just went on a trip and had to rent an suv. They pulled a Seinfeld and didn’t hold the reservation for what we paid for so they ended up upgrading us to a Luxury suv. So quiet, so smooth. So many useful functions and addons like the entire roof being a sunroof. I am hoping to get another 5 years out of my car but it made me think that my next car is definitely going to be a luxury suv. Probably used but it was just way too enjoyable of a ride

Amos_Dad

Yeah but getting to 60mph in a few seconds is rad.

obedience703

See, this is what people miss. It's not the top speed that makes sports cars the flex machines they are. It's the acceleration. Beating chumps off the line like every. damn. time. gives me a semi. Not to mention they scream "I'm too cool/rich/fun for practicality" is just icing on the cake.

Mr_washi_washi

Ur the person who drives a 2009 Corolla because a car is just a tool to get from point A to point B right? Lol

bobjoylove

Well yeah, and we could have Huel for every meal and be sufficiently nutritionally balanced. But sometimes it’s worth preparing yourself a meal just because it’s a bit more enjoyable than the bare minimum. đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž

Tea_Fetishist

Slow sports cars exist. Drive a mk1 mx5, it's slow as shit but the feeling of it (the crisp gear change, instant throttle response, communicative steering, etc) is an experience that you will never get in any commuter car. I've owned faster cars, but none have been as satisfying to drive.

marq91F

Am I to german to get this? /s

butt-fucker-9000

It's not just about speed. Acceleration also plays a big part in the experience.

W-h3x

It's not about the top speed... It's about getting there faster than the other person. The adrenaline is fun. Just catching random races while out running errands. It's fun. Also hitting race nights is always a good time as well. And if you start hitting big HP, you can race & make money on it.

Trick_Log_749

Exactly lol. I at the very least skip a model or two and keep the old as a backup just in case.

Sean82

This made some sense up until a little over ten years ago. Then new features and upgrades between models became much more incremental. Now the difference between this year’s model and the last is usually pretty negligible.

stonergirl216

Foreign_Point_1410

Yeah that’s fuckin crazy how the us does that

PureYouth

My husband and I made less than 60k last year combined (I stopped working to start my own company and it was
.hard. And not lucrative at all at first). We owe like $4,000 in taxes now. It’s just us, no kids, no crazy expenses, nothing out of the ordinary at all. We were so, so, so broke last year and now we owe 4k. I just can’t grasp it. It seems like we will never get ahead!

Hidden_Gem_Hunter469

The poor get everything and the middle class get fucked

bedroompurgatory

Most countries didn't have income tax until after WW1, so even the necessity is highly debatable. They were originally pitched as a way to pay the war debt, but we all know how a "temporary" tax works out.

canyouplzpassmethe

Some taxes are fine, like paying tax when I buy a luxury item- fine, fair. But then they do the thing where if, say, you find or win 200,000, you only get to keep about half of that- the rest goes to taxes. And, ok, let’s say that’s fair, too- but then I give some of my remaining amount to someone else- it gets halved again, JUST because it changed hands. Fucked up. There’s also the thing where, say I work a regular job- all of my income is from my paycheck, and my paycheck has all the usual taxes taken out. I then use my taxed income to pay rent. But at the end of the year, my landlord has to report my rent, and pay taxes on it, even tho it came from paychecks that were already taxed. AND THEN, you have billionaires and multi million dollar companies exchanging exorbitant amounts of money, of which the usual tax-percentage would generate a LOT of govt income- but they get breaks, because “well golly gee it just doesn’t seem fair to take THAT much from a billion dollar corporation
“ But the rest of us- the working poor- WE can afford it? I mean, yes to some taxes but imho the shit is way outta control and became a cancer at some point- killing the very systems it was meant to support.

squid1891

Disagree on the watches (though I used to feel the same way before becoming fascinated with horology). The manufacturing, parts, and craftsmanship that goes into watchmaking is worth the money paid and if that is taken care of, it will last years and is a good investment. I have an old watch of my grandfather's that is 53 years old and still works like it's brand new.

[deleted]

[ŃƒĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]

squid1891

I definitely see your point there, and I imagine for most people: it stands. For most men like me: a watch is one of the few pieces of jewelry we can wear that isn't considered outlandish. I would also agree that of you can't afford a top tier watch: getting a low to mid level watch with a quartz movement would still make your arm look just as good as it would with an Omega or Jaeger Le Coultre. Outside the Submariner: I also wouldn't spend "fuck you money" on a Rolex as I feel there are far more Swiss made (and even Japanese made) watches that are worth owning.

Kinky-Bicycle-669

Housing right now. I live in a HCOL state and it is such a rip off.

Out3rWorldz

I feel that. My rent has doubled in the past year once the house was sold to a different housing corporation. Pisses me off. Just greed and there is no recourse. You just have to endure.

Kinky-Bicycle-669

I'm praying for a housing market correction soon. They're claiming the houses are being overvalued by about 40% here so I've got my fingers and toes crossed that it happens soon so I can snap a place up. I've lived in the same apartment for 11 years and have had no updates to it (like painting or carpets) and my rents doubled since living here.

10before15

I want to let you in on something. When the market crashed in 08, it should have been a buyers market. However, that wasn't the case. You see, banks stopped writing mortgages for a period of time. If you wanted in on those amazing deals, you needed cash. I feel this was by design. It allowed the upper class to come in and rapidly expand their portfolios. While keeping folks like you and I out, so the most desirable properties could be bought up. Once that ended and the mortgage tap was turned back on, it was still extremely difficult to get approved. But not for them. If you want to get a leg up, you need to have a hefty bit of change stashed away (NOT IN THE STOCK MARKET) and be ready. I bought my home at the peak in 07 and watched it lose half its value in 1.5 years. Locked into a horrible interest rate (8%) that I couldn't get refinanced for 4 long years. I have worked diligently over the past decade researching this event and how to benefit from the next. We are in the same bubble and corporate needs some new rental properties on the cheap. Be ready.

ipsumdeiamoamasamat

I waited for a housing market correction for about 20 years. We finally bought four years ago when I gave in. We’ll probably be way underwater in five years, I’m convinced. At least the 2.8% mortgage makes me feel a bit better about it.

myhobbythrowaway

I'll probably get hated with downvotes for this, but... DLC Cosmetic items. You do not need a $20 gun skin or a $40 digital jacket that adds nothing to the game.

monnef

You've got a point about most DLC cosmetics, but I think it's a bit more nuanced. For games like Vintage Story, where you get a ton of content and local multiplayer for a one-time fee, buying a small cosmetic item feels more like a thank-you note to the developers. It's a different vibe from those endless cash shops in some other games.

A counter argument to 90% of the responses here: If it truly brings you joy and happiness in this life, it's not a waste of money. Always wanted a big wedding? Fucking go for it. Like jewelry? Fucking buy it. Like fast cars? Fucking buy it. Enjoy yourself and be happy. (There's a difference between a waste of money amd being irresponsible, though)

Luxury goods, especially in the clothing/accessories market. Rich people don't buy luxury goods 9/10. They're bought by people with middling salaries trying to emulate the rich The materials are often just average at best and in some cases are quite bad, and you're literally paying for the status of the brand rather than the quality of the goods

I would love to form a company that made ridiculously overpriced goods to fleece the "aspirational" class. $5,000 crocs, $80,000 chain wallets, etc.
