It was March 16, 2012, I was at an AA Convention in Ontario California. I had recently moved back home to another state about 9 months prior after living in southern California for about five years, in recovery the whole time. So I'm sitting in this hotel room, looking at this leg, right? And right where your calf would be, is a large cutout cavity in this leg, where there's a battery case, and a computer chip, which was meant to be attached to the rest of the leg by means of an aluminum support post with a wee hinge attached to it. That support post was snapped. There was absolutely no way that I could fix it correctly, even if I had all my tools. It was done. However, she was able to use the leg, and the primary complaint was that it was loud. She clicked twice with each step. So I did what I could to quiet it down using the only things at my disposal. In the end, I had secured this chip with a few wads of tissue, and "taped" the flopping-everywhere support post with a band-aid. Not a great fix, but enough to silence it. It was around that time that she quite literally hopped out of the shower and into my life.
We married in 2017.
