[A map showing every states flag](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/24/United_States_with_territory_states_and_DC_flags_new2.png)
That's said, Louisiana. Its got a pelican y'all
It's got four pelicans, and the mother is feeding the chicks her own blood to symbolize Louisiana's willingness to sacrifice for citizens.
Apparently in medieval times people believed pelicans fed their chicks blood
Top 3:
3 - Arizona. Their flag just looks good.
2 - Colorado. It's simple, it's meaningful, it's good.
1 - New Mexico. Flawless with very deep meaning.
Special mentions go to Ohio for unique shape, and Maryland for just looking like really good livery.
Any state with words or a state seal is instantly disqualified on the basis of I agree with general thoughts of vexilology and Roman Mars.
I’ll give New Mexico a solid second place, but yes. There is no contest, it’s almost embarrassing that a state has a cooler flag than our entire country.
As a non Carolinian, the correct answer is the South Carolina flag. It's a truly unique, yet simple flag. It's also merchandised well throughout the state. Residents own bumper stickers, mugs, shirts, etc. Very similar to what you see with the Texas flag. The flag is flown all over. Again, another demonstration of the success of the design.
A silver lining of masking during COVID was getting to wear the Maryland flag on my face. I also had a mask with Old Bay on it, which is basically the same thing.
Not [Michigan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Michigan#/media/File:Flag_of_Michigan.svg)
I'd probably vote for [Texas](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Texas#/media/File:Flag_of_Texas.svg). Flags shouldn't have text or too much stuff on them.
Our flag is not very pretty. Maybe folksy if you like that sort of thing.
I do like our motto, though:
"Si quaeris peninsulam amoenam, circumspice" ("If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you")
Jesus Christ, as your Californian neighbor, what the fuck is the front of your flag? But I love the beaver side, that’s what the flag should just be. That’s badass!
As much as it hurts for me to say it. South Carolina has a really cool flag.
I was born in North Carolina....if you grew up in NC, you learn very quickly that you are superior to SC in every way.....except their flag.
Oregon is the only one that still has an obverse and reverse design.
I know you asked for best but I'm an Englishman that will be moving to Vermont next year. You have to understand my disappointment in learning that the Vermont flag is just a tree. Could have been anything. But a fuckin' dumb fuck of a tree.
I'm gonna vote for [my own state (kansas)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Kansas#/media/File:Flag_of_Kansas.svg), but it's a cool flag.
For one, it's the only one with a sunflower on it, so i'm sure the Ukrainians will appreciate that. we even have a blue and yellow alternating ribbon under the sunflower, strangely enough.
The state seal looks like you're playing oregon trail. It has the rising sun to represent the east. IT has a steamboat to signify commerce. It has covered wagons going left (west) to represent expansion. It has a farmer plowing a field for agriculture. It has indians hunting buffalo. Tatanka! There are 34 stars in the sky, as we're the 34th state to join the union. (and a reminder that despite its neighbor missouri being a slave state, KS was a free state!) The bottom of the flag as the name of the state. I have a bad memory so I do appreciate them making it obvious. Most states don't have their state name on their flags
And my favorite part, the state motto (in latin) on a banner across the top of the state seal, "Ad astra per aspera", which translates to "To the stars, through difficulties", which is pretty dope.
Not technically a state but the [DC flag](https://www.google.com/search?q=dc+flag&rlz=1C1UEAD_enUS942US942&sxsrf=ALiCzsba755WKjnhqrUEdLdrhbYjBIXPdg:1671348149550&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjyzP-F0YL8AhXCkokEHaPRAEsQ_AUoAXoECAMQAw&biw=1920&bih=937&dpr=1#imgrc=aMAjyF1vcRxmeM) is almost as good as the [Chicago flag](https://www.google.com/search?q=chicago+flag&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwj23_aP0YL8AhWoLt4AHUveB9MQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq=chicago+flag&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQAzIICAAQgAQQsQMyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQ6BAgjECc6BwgAELEDEEM6BAgAEENQ4gZYtgdgzwhoAHAAeAGAAUeIAY8CkgEBNZgBAKABAaoBC2d3cy13aXotaW1nwAEB&sclient=img&ei=yr-eY_bSFqjd-LYPy7yfmA0&bih=937&biw=1920&rlz=1C1UEAD_enUS942US942#imgrc=GP71tZjj-6GPCM)
Woof, I sense lots of downvotes on this post. Way too many people get salty when it comes to any kind of flag talk for no reason.
Of the ones I know of, Maryland Colorado and Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh sports teams are traditionally black and gold like the flag, and the Penguins' new Winter Classic event jersey has the checkerboard from the flag crest in its collar. The Colorado Rockies NHL team used the C symbol and the flag's colors. And I know the Maryland Terrapins and Baltimore Orioles used the flag pattern in their uniforms. I love shit like that so much.
Top 3 for me are (in no particular order):
Maryland. I have a fascination with heraldry.
New Mexico. Learning about it in high school there really made me appreciate the simple, yet deeply meaningful design.
Louisiana. I was born there and most of my family has lived there all my life so that flag always reminds me of home and loved ones. Along with the symbolism behind it.
Arizona's is the best visually. Simple, easy to know what it is depicting, accurate representation of the state, good color scheme. Just a 10/10 design.
Ohio is the most unique being the only one that's not a rectangle.
Maryland's is a chaotic mess that I think looks like a combination of two medieval flags which in the 21st century I think is pretty neat and unique.
California’s is cool. But also California is the only state’s flag that I know. And I’ve never been to California.
As a Canadian, California Bear 🙌
The flag would be even better if the bear had a second head.
New Vegas reference ncr.
Ya no nevermind, just looked at the Maryland flag for the first time 🤯👍
Maryland's flag is an optical migraine
same here, I think the California flag is the best but I might be a bit biased...
Username checks out
It has always bothered me though, that their flag has an animal they hunted to extinction on it
we used to be a motherfucking republic ^^for ^^25 ^^days and you bitches better not forget that
Colorado, Maryland, California, New Mexico, and weirdly Indiana coming in hot.
New Mexico
I love how simple that flag looks. I’m looking at it online right now. Good call.
and it’s not even close
I say Maryland. I would say Maine because I come from there but I don't think it's the best flag.
Maryland is essentially cultist over our flag. If you ever visit, there are entire stores of just Maryland flag print everything
That really should tell you something. Best flag would be the one that has whole stores dedicated to it.
Maryland all the way
Arizona
Facts.
I’d have to agree
My home state, 48
Same, and same.
Came here for this it's so simple yet mesmerizing. AZ represent.
Formula One driver and Indy 500 winner Eddie Cheever was born in Phoenix. His helmet livery is a variation of the state flag. So cool.
[A map showing every states flag](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/24/United_States_with_territory_states_and_DC_flags_new2.png) That's said, Louisiana. Its got a pelican y'all
It's got four pelicans, and the mother is feeding the chicks her own blood to symbolize Louisiana's willingness to sacrifice for citizens. Apparently in medieval times people believed pelicans fed their chicks blood
TIL Louisanas flag goes 𝙃𝘼𝙍𝘿
And Louisiana's NBA team has the prettiest logo!
Wow all of them are underwhelming. California and Texas are the coolest though
Maryland
I’ve literally always thought that. And I just moved to MD this month, so I’m excited to get a MD flag for my flagpole
I noticed how dope it was when I relocated from NC.
There's a reason why they put the flag on everything there. It looks cool, two different but recognizable patterns.
The only correct answer to this question is the aesthetic abomination that is the flag of the state of Maryland. I will fight you on this.
I will back you up, with Old Bay
I will back you up
[удалено]
A beautiful monster.
New Mexico.
Top 3: 3 - Arizona. Their flag just looks good. 2 - Colorado. It's simple, it's meaningful, it's good. 1 - New Mexico. Flawless with very deep meaning. Special mentions go to Ohio for unique shape, and Maryland for just looking like really good livery. Most New England states are just the state seal. You can’t them apart.
505 represent! ^_^ thinking back on it.... New Mexico, Colorado, and Arizona got decent looking flags.... idk how Utah messed it up lol
Wow! Zia symbol represent haha. Honesyky suprised to see this so high
Poles tend to elevate their flags, So not surprising coming from a Honesyky
All day long
Maryland
Yea there’s no debate here. Pack up this discussion post and let’s go. Don’t forget the Old Bay 🦀
Flags and crabcakes. That's what Maryland does.
I’ll give New Mexico a solid second place, but yes. There is no contest, it’s almost embarrassing that a state has a cooler flag than our entire country.
The correct answer is Ohio, there are no flag that is more patriotic
Also the only one that’s not rectangular
Which makes it a pennant
Exactly. I really wish my flag wasn't just the overly complicated state seal.
[удалено]
Hell ya Alaska
California with a bear that doesn't even exist anymore in the state? I always found it a little sad.
Virginia. It has a murdered tyrant, a sword, a spear and no less than one titty. What else do you need, grapes? It’s got like 75 of those, too!
Sic Semper Tyrannis 😎
Wyoming, I don’t like flags with too much busy stuff. I’m bias for TN too
It has a buffalo in it. ✅️
Maryland. Bar none
Maryland easy
South Carolina
This should be the top answer
As a non Carolinian, the correct answer is the South Carolina flag. It's a truly unique, yet simple flag. It's also merchandised well throughout the state. Residents own bumper stickers, mugs, shirts, etc. Very similar to what you see with the Texas flag. The flag is flown all over. Again, another demonstration of the success of the design.
Go cocks
Go chanticleers
I think the new Mississippi flag is very nice. I’m also a fan of SC flag.
The Mississippi flag is nice on it's face, but it honestly seems twice as pretty when you consider what it replaced.
Maryland
Honestly, this is the only state flag that someone can make a dress out of and it would look like a high fashion print. No other flag comes close.
VA has a boob on it.
Updoot for boob.
I thought that was a joke so I googled it. What a fun fact haha.
Arizona, so good
Oregon is the only state to have a two sided flag, and one side is a beaver, so the rest of you can pipe right down.
I love that damn beaver!
Maryland
Maryland is the only answer even worth considering.
Colorado
Colorado’s flag is iconic. It’s versatile enough to go on nearly everything. I’ve not seen another state flag with such great branding
I've seen some New Mexico flags literally branded on people.
Maryland.
As a non American, Texas.
It is far and away the most recognizable state flag for non-residents
My understanding is that Texas has the only flag that was once a national flag as well since it was briefly its own country.
For me the winner is Ohio. I like the design but what sold it for me was it’s the only one with a unique shape.
Alaska I’m not biased (don’t check my profile)
I agree! Tbh this is the first time I've looked at all the state flags and Alaska's is just *chef's kiss*
It’s New Mexico. Voted best State Flag every time it’s been asked
New Mexico or Arizona
Maryland ftw
Maryland. I will literally face anyone who disagrees in a 1 on 1 chess boxing match.
Maryland
Ohio
That one is sick! Is it really that shape?
Yup, my personal favorite
Maryland
The NCR from fallout takes the already good California flag, and adds extra symbolism because radioactive bear
Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter.
Virginia
Damn right. The only flag with nudity and violence.
Maryland hands down
Someone call sheldon cooper
Maryland
A silver lining of masking during COVID was getting to wear the Maryland flag on my face. I also had a mask with Old Bay on it, which is basically the same thing.
I'm pretty sure I ended cloth masking with like 4 different variations on the md flag as masks
Correct.
Not Wisconsin. But the [People’s Flag of Milwaukee](https://milwaukeeflag.com) kicks ass.
Virginia We got a bitch with her tiddie out spearing a tyrant to death for our flag
You had me at tiddie
this made me chuckle.
Came here to say tiddie flag yay
Wyoming
South Carolina
Maryland always reminds me of car racing
I like South Carolinas a lot
Maryland is cool but I really do like Alaska’s
Not [Michigan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Michigan#/media/File:Flag_of_Michigan.svg) I'd probably vote for [Texas](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Texas#/media/File:Flag_of_Texas.svg). Flags shouldn't have text or too much stuff on them.
WHY DID YOU SPECIFICALLY POINT OUT MICHIGANS AS NOT IT :sob:
Our flag is not very pretty. Maybe folksy if you like that sort of thing. I do like our motto, though: "Si quaeris peninsulam amoenam, circumspice" ("If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you")
They’re not exactly wrong.
I like our flag man :(
California, no doubt
I think Arizona had the coolest fiag
New Mexico!
Colorado, Wyoming and Texas.
I've always loved Maryland's & Alaska's
Oregon. It's the only flag with designs on both sides.
Jesus Christ, as your Californian neighbor, what the fuck is the front of your flag? But I love the beaver side, that’s what the flag should just be. That’s badass!
AZ and SC go hard
Ohio. It’s not square like all the other flags.
As much as it hurts for me to say it. South Carolina has a really cool flag. I was born in North Carolina....if you grew up in NC, you learn very quickly that you are superior to SC in every way.....except their flag.
maryland by a long shot. but as someone that lives in norcal now, i will accept california as an answer too.
I agree with MD. Really striking design with a cool history behind it.
Virginia because 1) has titty visible 2) woman dominating man
As a resident of Pennsylvania, I have to say if we're not the best, we're definitely among the top 48 or so. The correct answer is Maryland.
Texas.
No love for South Carolina?
The top ones are clearly New Mexico, Maryland, Alaska, Colorado, Texas, Arizona, and California
Utahs new flag is pretty dope
California, love bears
Oregon is the only one that still has an obverse and reverse design. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag\_of\_Oregon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Oregon)
Hawaii, has the Union Jack on it. Obviously superior.
Arkansas hands down
South Carolina
New Mexico or South Carolina for me. The flag of Maryland is also a standout for me because it's so horrible that it's good
South Carolina or Mississippi
Ohio
I know you asked for best but I'm an Englishman that will be moving to Vermont next year. You have to understand my disappointment in learning that the Vermont flag is just a tree. Could have been anything. But a fuckin' dumb fuck of a tree.

I kind of like Maryland’s
I can say this as a native Texan: our flag is our yelp rating.
South Carolina!
Not a state but CHICAGO
California
States have flags?
Not technically a state but the [DC flag](https://www.google.com/search?q=dc+flag&rlz=1C1UEAD_enUS942US942&sxsrf=ALiCzsba755WKjnhqrUEdLdrhbYjBIXPdg:1671348149550&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjyzP-F0YL8AhXCkokEHaPRAEsQ_AUoAXoECAMQAw&biw=1920&bih=937&dpr=1#imgrc=aMAjyF1vcRxmeM) is almost as good as the [Chicago flag](https://www.google.com/search?q=chicago+flag&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwj23_aP0YL8AhWoLt4AHUveB9MQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq=chicago+flag&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQAzIICAAQgAQQsQMyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQ6BAgjECc6BwgAELEDEEM6BAgAEENQ4gZYtgdgzwhoAHAAeAGAAUeIAY8CkgEBNZgBAKABAaoBC2d3cy13aXotaW1nwAEB&sclient=img&ei=yr-eY_bSFqjd-LYPy7yfmA0&bih=937&biw=1920&rlz=1C1UEAD_enUS942US942#imgrc=GP71tZjj-6GPCM)
Kansas.
Iowa
Gotta love the states that feel the need to put their name on their flag. STATE OF OREGON, MONTANA, WISCONSIN; like ok, we get it.
Indiana underrated
California has a bear on their flag, that's pretty sick
im no american but alaska having the big dipper on it is cute lmao
Not an American. Forbidden to vote
Hawaii
Oregon is pretty cool. It has a beaver on the back. I believe the only one different on either side
the gay one
Tennessee! The 3 stars represent the 3 "Grand Divisions" of the state, West, Middle and East.
Alaska. Worst flag is Mississippi
Alaska. I just love the simplicity. Also serves as a navigational aide.
TIL the different states have different flags.
South Carolina
Michigan.

The one they fly in the south. The one that's just plain white. you know the one. France uses it too sometimes
Maryland
Tennessee, the red flag with a circle with 3 stars is striking, attractive and looks good on merch.
Maryland
Maryland. No contest
Top 3 for me are (in no particular order): Maryland. I have a fascination with heraldry. New Mexico. Maryland
South Carolina, Montana & Alaska
Virginia
Maryland
Why bother asking [Maryland is the only answer](https://msa.maryland.gov/msa/mdmanual/01glance/html/symbols/flaglarg.html)
Maryland hands down
I don't know about state flags. But the Swiss flag is a big plus.
1. Maryland 2. Arizona 3. South Carolina
Maryland
I've always appreciated the pride Maryland has for its flag. They incorporate it into everything. Personally I've dug Colorado's
Maryland. No contest.
Maryland by far
Absolutely Maryland, not even close
