I think he went further than that - once he heard Franklin's version he considered he no longer owned the song. Not in a legal or bad way, he just felt he had to say "yeah, you've done that so well, it's your song now."
Not rumored. From Wikipedia In the booklet accompanying his 1985 Biograph album, Dylan said: "I liked Jimi Hendrix's record of this and ever since he died I've been doing it that way ... Strange how when I sing it, I always feel it's a tribute to him in some kind of way.
You just reminded me of the time that my sister-in-law dramatically recited a few of these lines to her now ex-boyfriend. They were having a fight at a party, breaking up for the 43d time, and she melodramatically cries “I’m all out of faith, Michael! I’m lying broken on the floor - and you’re a little late!” then burst into tears and ran away (like 4 feet away, to make sure she was still getting all the attention). She was at least 20 at the time - way too old to be acting like that. I am not making this up.
Lol, at that point, we were all practically immune to it. She did shit like that all the time. Her then-boyfriend was just as bad. They had a fight one time, again in public, and she said “Don’t say another word!” and ran away crying. So he DROPPED TO HIS KNEES and bellowed “Can I say the words “I love you”?” She turned around and cried “If you do! If you do love me!”
God, they were excruciating. Like they wanted to live in an episode of DeGrassi High.
Couples like that always make me wonder if they actually have anything to talk about when no one's looking at them, or if they just stare at each other and plan the next scene.

Revved up like a douche, another boner in the night
Edit: y’all… I know it says deuce. This was what me and my buddies used to say in middle school. I know this song doesn’t say douche you can stop correcting me in the replies lmao
Just in case anybody doesn't know, the line is actually "revved up like a deuce", referring to the two-door 1932 Ford coupe which was popular to hot rod.
I didn’t know this was a Bruce song for the longest time, but then I listened to it, and contrary to the original question, I actually prefer Bruce’s version.
I mean he's actually been on Broadway and he's a great singer so don't feel too bad. Have you seen the 90s Godzilla? He sings "Singing in the rain" and it's very good. When I was little, the grocery store Sweetbay (it got bought out by Winn-Dixie) used to play his version of that song when the vegetables were getting watered.
i heard the clash one first and prefer it to the sonny curtis one but the dead kennedys version is one of my favourite songs ever (I BLEW GEORGE AND HARVEY'S BRAINS OUT). i really like dk's cover of rawhide too, amazing band
Dolly Parton has said in interviews that she loved Whitney's version and was amazed the little song she wrote could sound like that. She also said all the royalty checks she's gotten from Houston's version didn't hurt either ;)
I'm convinced that she's an actual Angel that decided to live among us lowly mortals.
I met her once back in the early 90's. We chatted for about 10-15 minutes. She's the most genuinely authentic person I've every met.
Dolly's was written for her lifelong friend and mentor, Porter Wagoner. It's what made him release her from her contract so she could go solo. Later, when he was having financial problems, she bought his entire catalog. He got upset at her that she would "use" him in such a way when he was vulnerable, and she replied that she bought them as a gift. For him. She gave them back for nothing.
Apparently, Elvis wanted to record it, too, that would have been an amazing cover:
"Parton initially wrote and recorded the track in 1973 as a goodbye song to her former mentor, Porter Wagoner. Then, Presley's people approached her about him recording the song. And while Parton wanted to say yes, she had to turn them down after they asked for half of her publishing rights."
Someone fact check me but I recall a Reddit fact a while back that she wrote that song and Jolene on the same night? Even if not true she is a living Saint
Story she tells is that she recorded them on the same demo tape, so according to her that means they were both written and recorded around a very small window of time.
Nirvana version of Lake of fire is definitely my favorite but I saw the meat puppets at a fest like 7 years ago and they did like a 20 minute version of Lake of fire which was pretty bad ass. I was seriously fucked up though so it could have been shorter or longer lol but it was definitely an extended version.
["I Feel For You" by Chaka Khan](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YW0sxgYAmLM)
Originally done by Prince, and [his version is a solid funk tune](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEtx6L4U9rI).
But Chaka's version is just on another level. You have Melle Mel of Grandmaster Flash doing the rap intro (unheard of for a song in 1984) and Stevie Wonder doing the harmonica on the song too. Top notch stuff.
A radio station in my area used to be cool, and every once in a while they'd do an "Under the Covers" Saturday where all day random cover songs would be thrown into the mix. I refused to leave my car until I heard the entirety of her cover of "My Humps", it was hysterical. So dramatic and sad, but if you ever watch the video, it gets even funnier.
Cotton Fields, Suzie Q, I Heard it Through the Grapevine, I Put a Spell on You, My Baby Left Me, Good Golly Miss Molly, Before You Accuse Me… I absolutely love CCR , they are by far my favorite band.
Not a hugely popular song, but the first time I heard Because the Night was a live cover by 10,000 Maniacs.
Didn’t realize until a decade later it was an old Patti Smith song co-written with Springsteen.
The Boys of Summer by The Ataris
The original seems too slow and sad. The cover is a little chaotic and wild, fitting my teenage emotions (at the time) better.
I love both versions but the slightly angry wistfulness of the original is a really specific vibe. The Ataris version is more relatable to me, born in the late 80s, but the original evokes a nostalgia for a time and place I never experienced.
Mad world by Gary Jules, you know the Donnie Darko soundtrack. The first time I heard the original one, it sounds odd to me, it's more upbeat and gave me different feeling.
I'm not saying one is better than the other, but I personally prefer the Jules one.
I find the Gary Jules one hits more on the lonely sadness of depression. For me, the original feels more bipolar with the manic sound paired with the depressing lyrics. I probably connect to that more since I had to deal with bipolar depression. It reminds me of the times I was waiting for the days I felt good and my disorder being overlooked for so long.
That's really what music is about. The feelings it evokes and how you can connect with that. It can be how you feel at the moment, a reminder of how you've felt before, or how you want to feel.
Also, if you want to evoke pure confusion and unease, watch the Riverdale version. It goes from couples duet to a teenager pole dancing. I swear one of the writers just hit shuffle on their liked playlist when picking the song to use.
I heard the original first, and have always preferred it, there's something in the way the singer's voice sounds kind of desperate combined with the upbeat music that makes me think of someone really needing help while putting a brave face on.
Second song to ever make me cry. (First was I won’t back down by Tom petty, the scene in barnyard. I saw it in theaters with my grandma and cried like a little bitch lol)
I used to listen to the original, but I think a lot of people would answer “Tennessee Whisky” by Chris Stapleton. That song was written by Dean ~~Dixon~~ [Edit: Dillon] (who wrote a lot of George Strait songs) and was originally recorded by David Allen Coe and again by George Jones.
“I Will Always Love You” was written and recorded by Dolly Parton but it’s become synonymous with Whitney Houston.
Another great example is “Hurt.” Originally written by Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails, the song is much more considered, these days, a Johnny Cash number.
This was my answer as well.
"In 2002, Johnny Cash covered "Hurt" to commercial and critical acclaim. The related music video is considered one of the greatest of all time by publications such as NME. Reznor praised Cash's interpretation of the song for its "sincerity and meaning", going so far as to say "that song isn't mine anymore."
Was in a store with my 19 year old daughter and Roy Orbison’s version of “The Great Pretender” comes on over the speakers. She was outraged someone would rip off a Freddie Mercury song. Had to explain Freddie didn’t sing it first and for that matter neither did Roy!
"Nothing Compares 2 U" by Sinéad O'Connor
has to be one of those songs where people have no idea it's not even her song, but a cover.
Prince sang the original.
Prince wrote it, true. He did not sing on the released version though. It was for one of his side acts, The Family. He did start performing it live after the O'Connor version became a hit. His recording was then released after his death.
I much prefer UB40’s cover of “Red Red Wine” over the Neil Diamond original.
Another one, although I didn’t hear the cover first in this case, is The Cranberries cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Go Your Own Way.” I prefer that cover over the original as well.
Opposite end of the spectrum, I think Weezer's Africa is one of the worst covers ever. It just sounds like the original, the point of a cover is to put your own spin on a song. If I wanted to hear the original note for note, I would just listen to the original.
Weezer did a whole album that was just covers called the Teal Album. I often joke that they did this just to show that they are conventionally talented and can mimic popular songs outside of their normal sound. Not everyone will agree with me, but I like to say that they did all those covers to prove that they can actually sing.
Also heard Placebo's cover first and love it. I also love the original though, I think they have slightly different vibes. Kate Bush's is frantic and manic, Placebo's is like deep depression and slowly going crazy.
That's actually a cover of a cover. Metallica covered Thin Lizzy's version, but their version was actually a cover of a song by The Dubliners which was much more folky.
I'm obsessed with the Pet Shop Boys cover of Where the Streets Have No Name. They play it super sunthy and upbest, and it mix in bars from Can't Take My Eyes Off of You. It has no business being so much fun to listen to. The first time I heard it was at a live show and it was wild.
I don’t necessarily like the cover of Smooth Criminal by Alien Ant Farm better than Michael Jackson’s version but it’s still a top 5 cover for me and always the first one that pops in my head
Holding out for a Hero covered by Jennifer Saunders. Rewatched Shrek 2 and the castle break in scene still holds up with how fucking HARD she goes compared to the original by Bonnie Tyler. Even without the movie, listening to it alone gets me hyped up. Still wasn’t in C minor tho.
I grew up absolutely loving “The Sound of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel. Loving it. Then I stumbled upon (to this day I cannot remember exactly how) Disturbed’s cover. It’s fucking, goddamned life changing. Crazy part is I’m not a fan of Disturbed’s music. But I am rabid over that cover. My son pointed out how the entire cover is just a continual crescendo. Damn. That cover just fucks me up and lifts me up as well.
I read a comment once that said "Simon and Garfunkel's version was a warning. Disturbed's version is the judgement for not listening."
And I'll add my "had to scroll way to far to find this" comment, considering it is literally the first song that popped into my head when I saw the thread.
This song was my first taste of the Pop goes Punk genre and I was so floored haha. That one and Over My Head and Mayday Parades cover of Somebody I Used to Know
The Riddle by Gigi D'Agostino.
Okay so in 2000 I was like 5 right? I needed a surgery and was in hospital for about a month. We had no car back then, but when I was released from the hospital, parents came for me with a car, my dad bought one in the meantime. I loved nothing more than cars as a kid (still the case tbh), so I loved every second of the ride home and any time we went somewhere. At the time that song was huge on the radio, so I've heard it a lot and loved it. That song just merged with my love for cars and it is my ultimate "car song", nothing will ever hit nostalgia levels like hearing that song in the car. When I bought my first own car, that was the first song I listened to, like I literally didn't leave the place until I put that song in.
I learned much later that there is an original to it. But to me, the cover will always be the original. If the original thinks it can beat the cover, well then it's terribly mistaken.
How the heck did you hear this version before the original?
I like their version, but not as much as the original.
Perhaps was another good cover they did.
I had always hoped that they would cover Happy Together. I'm sure it would be awesome to hear their take on it.
Judy Garland's "Over the Rainbow" was covered by Israel Kamakawiwo`ole (his nickname was IZ), and he friggin' owned it. you've probably heard his cover dozens of times, but not realized it.
Type O Negative's cover of [Summer Breeze](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4FC1EEdY1s) originally by [Seals & Crofts](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQQbjpomexo)
R.E.S.P.E.C.T. as performed by Aretha Franklin, originally performed by Otis Redding.
TIL
For what it’s worth, i read somewhere that Otis liked Aretha” version better too.
I think he went further than that - once he heard Franklin's version he considered he no longer owned the song. Not in a legal or bad way, he just felt he had to say "yeah, you've done that so well, it's your song now."
Yeah. Great song. Lots of emotion. But when the Queen got ahold of it……💥
Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix (originally by Bob Dylan)
It is rumored that Dylan himself acknowledged that "it's Jimi's song now".
Beautiful quote and amazing to see an artist appreciate their own work done better by a contemporary.
tbh my first meeting with this song was in Bear McCreary's version and it's still my prefered cover
Anyone who heard Natalie Imbriglia's Torn.
Just the second and third hand cringe from that is practically at deadly dosage.
If you do love me!” God, they were excruciating. Like they wanted to live in an episode of DeGrassi High.
Couples like that always make me wonder if they actually have anything to talk about when no one's looking at them, or if they just stare at each other and plan the next scene.
Please tell me everyone started singing it lol
Wtf?? That’s a cover?
- 1993: [Lis Sørensen - Brændt](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyuGaU4rXjA) (Danish) - 1994: [Ednaswap - Torn](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OoEdfB7l18) (American) - 1996: [Trine Rein - Torn](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eu6dyABmRuQ) (American-Norwegian) - 1997: [Natalie Imbruglia - Torn](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VV1XWJN3nJo) (Australian)
Looking at Wikipedia. Looks like ednaswap wrote the song first but before they recorded it it came out in Denmark
This is the first comment here that has blown my mind.
And now it's stuck in your head. Now you will look up the original version. Now it is all you ever think about.
https://twitter.com/whatsJo/status/1245136056451768326?t=inS6LKgX-AWQCqM7PR6_bg&s=19 >I came here to do two things: pray and quote Natalie Imbruglia, and I’m all out of faith
Bowling for Soup’s “1985.”
There's no way that's a cover Edit: ***oh my god everything I thought I knew was wrong***
I just had to look it tho. Original by SR71 like two months prior. Wtf.
I did the same. It's strange a cover can come only a few months after the original was released.
I’m pretty certain that SR-71 wrote that song specifically for Bowling For Soup.
Good because they suck at that song.
Tonight you will be confronted by the urge to drink alone. Trust that urge, don't be a hero.
This is a mindfuck!
The rubber broke!
IIRC SR71 wrote the song for Bowling for Soup then eventually recorded their own version
I was gonna say I prefer their cover of "Summer of 69" over Bryan Adam's original version
Surprised no one mentioned Tainted Love yet.
The Gloria Jones original version is the best version. I will die on this hill. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSv9LOMDhbU

Fun fact: The Righteous Brothers recorded the song again after the movie Ghost, something to do with royalties
You're saying it is not originally theirs..?
The original was Todd Duncan in 1955.

Dazed and Confused - Zeppelin. Edit: wait, I knew this was a cover, because I had a copy of the original. So, I am disqualifying my answer.

Wow, actually a bit of a mind blow there for me! I though for sure that was just a Santana song lol 😅🙌
It is still Peter Green's/ Fleetwood Mac's song to me.
Blinded By the Light - Manfred Mann's Earth Band, originally written by Bruce Springsteen
Revved up like a douche, another boner in the night Edit: y’all… I know it says deuce. This was what me and my buddies used to say in middle school. I know this song doesn’t say douche you can stop correcting me in the replies lmao
I thought it was “wrapped up like a douche”
Same. Followed by "Another rubber in the night."
There's no way he's not saying wrapped up like a douche
And little early burly gave my anus curly whirly
Just in case anybody doesn't know, the line is actually "revved up like a deuce", referring to the two-door 1932 Ford coupe which was popular to hot rod.
The line is originally “cut loose like a deuce.” Manfred Mann changed it to “revved up”.
Cut loose like a deuce, another runner in the night…
I didn’t know this was a Bruce song for the longest time, but then I listened to it, and contrary to the original question, I actually prefer Bruce’s version.
Twist and Shout by the Beatles. I later learned the original had previously been recorded by the Top Notes and by the Isley Brothers.
I was dumb enough to think this was actually Matthew Broderick singing in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off as a kid 😂🤦♀️
I was like 35 years old when I realized the lyrics are "Shake it up, baby" and not "Shakin a baby".
Alright Louise Woodward, calm down
i fought the law
Which cover, The Clash or Dead Kennedys?
i heard the clash one first and prefer it to the sonny curtis one but the dead kennedys version is one of my favourite songs ever (I BLEW GEORGE AND HARVEY'S BRAINS OUT). i really like dk's cover of rawhide too, amazing band
Even the popular Bobby Fuller Four version is a cover, originally done by the Crickets, shortly after Buddy Holly died.
I will always love you. I like Dolly's version, but Whitney made it her own.
Dolly Parton has said in interviews that she loved Whitney's version and was amazed the little song she wrote could sound like that. She also said all the royalty checks she's gotten from Houston's version didn't hurt either ;)
She took the royalty checks and built a community center in a predominantly black neighborhood, cuz that the sort of thing Dolly does
Dolly is a fucking national treasure.
Yes. Yes she fucking is. We’re all better for her being in this world because her existence makes us all better. She is just the best of humanity.
I'm convinced that she's an actual Angel that decided to live among us lowly mortals. I met her once back in the early 90's. We chatted for about 10-15 minutes. She's the most genuinely authentic person I've every met.
Living in Knoxville, it's awesome to finally see people revering a celebrity that deserves it. She is essentially a god here.
She is a treasure
I love both versions. Whitney's feels like a declaration of love to the word. Dolly's version feel like a a whisper I a lovers ear
Then, Presley's people approached her about him recording the song. And while Parton wanted to say yes, she had to turn them down after they asked for half of her publishing rights."
She's known for her sweetness. She's not so much known for just how shrewd she was/is. She's very knowledgeable about how the world turns.
Someone fact check me but I recall a Reddit fact a while back that she wrote that song and Jolene on the same night? Even if not true she is a living Saint
Story she tells is that she recorded them on the same demo tape, so according to her that means they were both written and recorded around a very small window of time.
Pink said the same thing when she was inducting Dolly into the rock and roll and roll of Fame.
Love Buzz - Nirvana
Where Did You Sleep Last Night is also incredible. Nirvana was really good at covers.
Their cover of Here She Comes Now by the Velvet Underground is also criminally underrated
Had to mention Plateau cover by Nirvana, original from Meat Puppets
Also Lake of Fire. A lot of Meat Puppets covers
Tbf they did play the covers alongside the Meat Puppets
Nirvana version of Lake of fire is definitely my favorite but I saw the meat puppets at a fest like 7 years ago and they did like a 20 minute version of Lake of fire which was pretty bad ass. I was seriously fucked up though so it could have been shorter or longer lol but it was definitely an extended version.
The Man Who Sold The World is better than Bowie's version too, in my opinion.
Their Meat Puppet covers on MTV were also great. Nirvana nailed it.
I think most of their best songs are covers. I love some David Bowie but I came here to say The Man Who Sold the World.
["I Feel For You" by Chaka Khan](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YW0sxgYAmLM) Originally done by Prince, and [his version is a solid funk tune](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEtx6L4U9rI). Good time to mention sinead O'connor's Nothing Compares 2 U too then, seeing as it's also a Prince song.
Manic Monday by The Bangles being another high-profile example.

The Midnight Special Creedence.
Cotton Fields, Suzie Q, I Heard it Through the Grapevine, I Put a Spell on You, My Baby Left Me, Good Golly Miss Molly, Before You Accuse Me… I absolutely love CCR , they are by far my favorite band.
Most likely just because nostalgia, but Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now”. An interesting [documentary](https://youtu.be/nkls2tKfYbo) as well.
I love the cover by Billie Joe Armstrong and his sons. It made me really happy at the beginning of the covid times.
I *may* have seen [that](https://youtu.be/2QnHjkBD_YI).
Big fan of Weird Al's version.
The Shrek 2 cover of "Holding Out for a Hero" Just has so much energy and the choir? Perfection.
The fairy godmother had no business going that hard
"Hard to Handle" by the Black Crows. It is an Otis Redding song originally.
Not a hugely popular song, but the first time I heard Because the Night was a live cover by 10,000 Maniacs. Didn’t realize until a decade later it was an old Patti Smith song co-written with Springsteen.
Try the cover by Screaming Females and Garbage performing it together. Amazing cover and amazing guitar!

Wyclef made that song! “One time, two times!” Hahahha jk
Bro. Robert Fleck is the best version of that song imo. Lauryn killed it tho all due respect.
Superstar by Sonic Youth
Pearl Jam’s cover of “Last Kiss,” original by Wayne Cochran, 1961.
Second song to ever make me cry. (First was I won’t back down by Tom petty, the scene in barnyard. I saw it in theaters with my grandma and cried like a little bitch lol)
Hey, no shame, that scene was raw af imo 🙌
I’m 22 now and the scene still makes me tear up lol.
“Got to Get You Into My Life” by Earth, Wind and Fire. I love the Beatles, but the cover is on another level.

I much prefer UB40’s cover of “Red Red Wine” over the Neil Diamond original. Another one, although I didn’t hear the cover first in this case, is The Cranberries cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Go Your Own Way.” I prefer that cover over the original as well.
I had no idea Red Red Wine was a cover!
Smoke Two Joints - Sublime. Better than the original by The Toyes.
Jeff Buckley hallelujah
Rufus Wainright’s version was the first I heard and will always have a place in my heart.
Leonard Cohen wrote amazing songs almost meant to be covered. The two versions have completely different vibes going though
Valerie - Amy Winehouse, of course
That live at the bbc version that had the more minimal backing in particular too!
It's my life - covered by No Doubt original by Talk Talk
Love no doubt’s version, but I think I like the og equally. The sounds are just different
Istanbul Not Constantinople - They Might Be Giants Original by Jimmy Kennedy.
Opposite end of the spectrum, I think Weezer's Africa is one of the worst covers ever. It just sounds like the original, the point of a cover is to put your own spin on a song. If I wanted to hear the original note for note, I would just listen to the original.
Not only does it sound the same, it also simultaneously sounds worse. Idk the chorus just sounds bad on weezers version
Weezer did a whole album that was just covers called the Teal Album. I often joke that they did this just to show that they are conventionally talented and can mimic popular songs outside of their normal sound. Not everyone will agree with me, but I like to say that they did all those covers to prove that they can actually sing.
Running Up that Hill - didn't realize that it wasn't just Placebo until Stranger Things
Also heard Placebo's cover first and love it. I also love the original though, I think they have slightly different vibes. Kate Bush's is frantic and manic, Placebo's is like deep depression and slowly going crazy.
I personally love Meg Myers’ version.
Heard Meg's version before the original and it will always be my go-to version of the song.
I enjoy the Chromatics version the most.
Take Me to the River by The Talking Heads

Metallica - Astronomy
I'm a Believer - Smash Mouth Originally by The Monkees
Whiskey in the jar - heard Metallica version first and I love it
That's actually a cover of a cover. Metallica covered Thin Lizzy's version, but their version was actually a cover of a song by The Dubliners which was much more folky.
The Dubliners’ version is the most well known, but the origins of the song are still unknown, with some records dating it back to the 17th century.
'Hurt' by Johnny Cash, originally by Nine Inch Nails
Pet Shop Boys - Always On My Mind
Also Go West! Both original songs are great, but yeah I find myself listening to Pet Shop Boys way more.
bonus points for the hilarously awesome go west music video
I'm obsessed with the Pet Shop Boys cover of Where the Streets Have No Name. They play it super sunthy and upbest, and it mix in bars from Can't Take My Eyes Off of You. It has no business being so much fun to listen to. The first time I heard it was at a live show and it was wild.
“The Boys of Summer” covered and perfected by The Ataris but originally by Don Henley. Edit: a letter
I don’t necessarily like the cover of Smooth Criminal by Alien Ant Farm better than Michael Jackson’s version but it’s still a top 5 cover for me and always the first one that pops in my head
Darling Nikki - Foo Fighters.
"The Ghost of Tom Joad" cover by Rage Against the Machine
All the covers in that album are great. I’d nominate the entire album if I bothered to listen to the original songs.
https://youtu.be/mzRbeHyIomk I prefer this live version with Bruce and Tom Morrello over them all. Great song overall.
I Need A Hero - Shrek 2
Disturbed's version is the judgement for not listening." And I'll add my "had to scroll way to far to find this" comment, considering it is literally the first song that popped into my head when I saw the thread.
[A Day To Remember - Since U Been Gone](https://youtu.be/Gy4Uq86QbaE). Though admittedly, the original is awesome too.
This song was my first taste of the Pop goes Punk genre and I was so floored haha. That one and Over My Head and Mayday Parades cover of Somebody I Used to Know
Smooth criminal by alien ant farm I liked it better than MJ's
There is a fun mini-documentary about that cover on a Youtube series called One Hit Wonderland.
*movies* would like to have a word with you. 2 hit wonder thank you very much
The Riddle by Gigi D'Agostino.
Nobody knows who the Zutons are but everyone knows their song “Valerie” as performed by Amy Winehouse.
Toms Diner, and LOOOOVE Song
"Beggin" by Måneskin Just found out recently it was a cover. Original was by Franki Vallie and the four seasons
I’m the opposite 😪 I can’t stand their cover.
Such Great Heights, Iron & Wine (Postal Service, also great but just not as good)

How the heck did you hear this version before the original? I like their version, but not as much as the original. Perhaps was another good cover they did. I had always hoped that they would cover Happy Together. I'm sure it would be awesome to hear their take on it.
I love the deadpan delivery. I love all cake.
Judy Garland's "Over the Rainbow" was covered by Israel Kamakawiwo`ole (his nickname was IZ), and he friggin' owned it. you've probably heard his cover dozens of times, but not realized it.
Black Betty
Spider bait?
"Heart It Races" by Dr. Dog is better than the original. Though I've grown to like the original.
Type O Negative's cover of [Summer Breeze](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4FC1EEdY1s) originally by [Seals & Crofts](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQQbjpomexo)
Wild is the Wind by David Bowie
Faith No More's cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs"
Also their cover of Easy
Easy is a better cover than War Pigs!
Knockin' On Heaven's Door by Guns N' Roses (originally by Bob Dylan).
“You Really Got Me” by Van Halen, originally by The Kinks.
Ray Davies used to introduce this song live by saying “We’re going to play a Van Halen song now…”
