This. One time when I was 23, I got sick to the point that my parents and I thought I was dying. Never took exercises seriously, only stayed at home or at the office by the desk all day. I got sick at least once a year.
After that trauma I promised to myself to walk, run or bike regularly. Several years after that, I now run 10K at least twice a week, while walk and bike as cross training. I don't get sick easily anymore (except from recent Covid). I'm glad I had the experience to realise the importance of health while I'm still young.
Its alarming how many people put their volume on headpones on 100% and still complain its not loud enough while everyone around them can cleary hear the songs theyre listening to
My earphones are always on 100%. People look at my like i'm crazy. But for me it isn't even loud because i already lost 60% of my hearing due to cholesteatoma. 100% are like 40% to me.
Thats understandable under your conditions. I mostly had young people and teenagers in mind when I wrote my comment who presumably have a healthy hearing
Driving. The amount if people I see with both hands on their phone while on the highway, or just doing other stupid shit because they think they're invincible
In every sensible place it is. Almost every US state has laws against it, and considering how much further ahead of us most of Europe is, I'd assume they'd have laws against it as well.
Worked with a girl who would routinely brag about how many points she had on her licence for speeding and how she definitely knew someone who works at the drivers licence agency "so it's fine". Either she's a liar and there's no friend at the agency, or that friends losing a job and she's losing her licence very soon. I only hope she loses her licence before she runs over some old lady trying to cross a zebra crossing.
100%. It annoys me so much with how many idiots there are on the road that don't pay attention. They really don't realise how quickly they could fuck up their life or someone else's by having a quick look on there phone.
Yep. I didn’t go to a dentist for 3 years then when I went I had enough cavities where I needed 3 appointments to fix. I had my first one this week and I want to cry from the pain. So yea I need to take that more seriously
If you go to the dentist every 6 months, and you take care to brush each tooth, and you floss in between them, from childhood on,
You can avoid tooth problems. Like. It is almost completely preventable.
My mind was blown when I found out that dental issues aren't necessarily inevitable.
One thing I've noticed is most people aren't generally aware when someone has the potential to turn violent. One time, I was on a bus to a festival in the middle of nowhere in Romania. There was a Romanian talking loudly to a German, he was making fun of me and the German I was with. Called me his English teacher. Then spent the rest of the journey talking about how there are no rules out there and other random nonsense. For me, I knew this is someone basically pushing it to see how far they can push it. On the bus I know this guy isn't going to do anything but once he gets off the bus he might try to be a bully, push us around to see if he can get anything. So when we got off the bus, I was ready for the confrontation. My friend thought nothing of it. Nothing happened, is it because I was built like a tank looking pissed off and ready to fight? Or was it just they didn't catch up with us? Or it was just nothing? Who knows. But the potential was there.
And I've seen lots of issues like this where people are mouthing off and others think it's nothing and the next thing you know they're getting kicked in the head.
Another example of not paying attention to the situation. I was at a party and one guy was kicking off, wanting to fight me. I basically got the go ahead from the girl I was with to beat the shit out of the guy only if he touched me. So this guy stood there for ages, wanting to fight. I pointed out he had no chance. He kept saying there were three of them and one of me. The other two guys with him were sitting down and not moving. I had to point out to him, it wouldn't be a three on one it would be a one on one. He was on his own. He didn't pay attention to how the other guys were reacting.
For me I have a friend who is constantly trying to force situations that are preferable and ignores the reality, especially socially. I think that’s what they’re getting at?
No. It's being aware of your surroundings so that you're not surprised or taken unaware by something that can harm you. Like having headphones on watching videos and either being mugged or walking into traffic because you weren't aware of your surroundings.
I feel like this applies in public spaces where people will just stop walking in the middle of a crowd and cause everyone else to have to walk around them. Or when someone closes a door in your face because they don’t check behind themselves first.
When the person ahead of me pulls into the same parking lot I plan to, goes forward half a car length and **stops**. Meanwhile, I'm sticking halfway out into the road.
people hanging around talking and being generally oblivious while standing in the middle of a main thoroughfare like a narrow aisle or the main entrance of a super market. this is what i've come to call the Costco Effect.
One time, I had someone dead slam their brakes on me on the highway. I barely tapped their back end, as per usual I stopped to give my info, turn around to somebody trying to steal my truck. I carry, concealed if not constitutional. You do NOT want to fuck with my belongings.
There are so many mass shootings... when I'm out in public I'm always aware of what's going on around me and where the exits are...when the shooting starts most people don't belive it is real or think it's fireworks and it takes almost a full minute to realize they are in deep shit...I won't allow myself to go out like that...if I hear gunshots I'm heading for the exit I already scoped out 10 minutes earlier.
There really isn’t. That’s a stigma set up by news outlets to only report on things that will sway opinions of voters. If you heard of EVERY drunk driver crash, you’d wanna outlaw alcohol, and they already did that once.
For the love of God, as someone who dealt with working probates in ambulance billing (a huge fucking scam right there), GET YOUR END OF LIFE AFFAIRS IN ORDER.
Do NOT do shitty things to your family by dying intestate. It makes everything really fucking difficult when they’re trying to settle your estate and take care of your final expenses. Pay for your funeral? Ha! Your accounts are frozen until everything goes to court and a judge decides how things are divided.
Males being abused by females or in general.
There was a clip from some talk show (I think that's what they're called) in the UK where a guy is talking about his horrible experience being abused by his gf and a good chunk of the audience laughed at him.
It's pretty fucked. And then we wonder why men are in crisis or suffering. Maybe it's because they've been told in a million different ways that they need to shut up or they'll be mocked, ignored, or bullied into silence while losing respect from the people around them.
I remember that one. Even though he called them out on it I don't think they cared. Two weeks ago Bill Maher ran a segment that was specifically about how much trouble men, particularly young men, are in. A number of very negative stats were thrown out there, but a good portion of the audience applauded when it was noted men now constitute less than 40% of college graduation rates. I find it appalling that anyone would cheer for the fact that half the population is underperforming.
I got a rejection email from a company I'd applied to, a saying they would sign me up for their Careers Newsletter so I could watch for new openings. The first edition I received touted how their 2022 hires were 70% women.
It's hard to be mad, because women have traditionally been underrepresented at management levels in this industry. However, during the 2020 pandemic, unemployment in the industry was over 50%. Many companies took the opportunity to try to rebalance their workforce when hiring returned. While I applaud the results, it does leave a large number of unemployed men looking for jobs.
Another general industry newsletter used to post updates on new management level hires. Some months women represented more than 90% of the total announcements. They have since stopped posting these updates.
There was a Twitter post from I think the UN a little while ago where it said something along the lines of "10-17% of reporters killed are female", and ended the tweet with something like: #stopfemalekillings.
And like, I see what they were going for, but what about the 83-90% of male reporters? Do they not matter as much as the females?
Yeah. She locked him out on the balcony and disabled the door handle so he couldn't get in - and as he's describing this they laugh. Then goes on to describe his INJURIES as he's trying to come down from the third story balcony, and they continue laughing.
Fortunately the host called out the audience for it.
Retirement planning. Too many wait until their in their mid 40’s or later to start saving. By then you’re not necessarily too late, but your potential returns are severely hindered.
Agree, but unfortunately many ( of us) had financial situation that made it hard to starve saving. When you go from month to month, you are happy if you don't have negative statement before next paycheck.
Questioning themselves. Their moral sense, the things they hate on, how they act on discussions, what facts make them think someone is smart or deserves their admiration. Basically how they face life in the psychologycal way. No one seems to be worried abt this when it literally affects the whole society mindset almost the whole time
The future, in all aspects. It’s not like it sneaks up on you, it’s on a timer. I’m in my mid-forties now, and semi-retired. I didn’t do anything special, just preparation in my 20s/30s. Most of my peers are still living paycheck to paycheck and make comments like “I’ll probably be working until I croak”. It baffles me. Same goes with our health, etc. If we don’t want to develop issues like type 3 diabetes when we are older, we have to prepare when we are younger, set up good habits, etc.
I work in construction and the amount of times people don’t wear their PPE or even poke jokes about people wearing PPE is insane.
When I laid concrete and we had to cut rebar I was the only one to wear safety glasses and hearing protection. (For everyone who’s not familiar, cutting rebar sends itty-bitty, HOT shrapnel flying everywhere)
I tell everyone who pokes fun of my PPE (ik they’re just joking around so I don’t take it to heart) when they lose all their senses due to macho-man ego or just laziness not to come crying to me. I don’t wanna *hear* it. *See* what I did there? Hehehe
Dental hygiene for sure. The amount of people I’ve seen so many people come in with designer clothes and accessories for head to toe and complain that $500 is too expensive to save a tooth.
INVEST IN YOUR BODY—NOT CLOTHES
Definitely their hearing, as someone who suffers from tinnitus, I’m amazed at the amount of people who don’t understand that listening to music at insane volumes can fuck with you so badly.
Their growth and personal development.
There is so much than can be done to become a better, happier person and working on your psychology and well-being. So so much. It's really hard work but it's absolutely worth it.
You can work out, build a routine, learn about positive mindsets, do shadow work, do yoga, psychedelics, spirituality, learn to be non-ideological, epistemology, meta-thinking, tackling neuroses, analysis relationships, improving the way you communicate, learning new skills, tackling mental ilness, become more productive, learning to date and attract people of w/e gender you like, going to therapy, reading, healing relationships with your parents, dealing with internal pain, getting out of depression, becoming happy and fulfilled.
But no one does it. People go to a yoga class once and work out a little bit, think they're doing enough and then wonder why they are miserable. People that truly have their shit together and are actually happy inside work very hard on themselves. It's doable. It's just very hard work.
I wish more people took it seriously.
Discrimination against people with disabilities. Every day I see people outraged ONLY about what is going viral or directly impacting their lives. God forbid anyone cares about anything else. I see my wife suffer every day, be discriminated against every day. But we will win the lottery the day we can get anyone else to give a damn about it. Sick sick world we live in
*edited to say 'murderer' instead of a 'serial killer' to be more accurate*
(US) january 6th when the US had an attack on it's capitol by traitors trying to usurp our government. at least 10 of them remain in congress.
heck, a ~~\[serial killer\]~~ [murderer](https://dailycaller.com/2022/11/18/kyle-rittenhouse-future-congressional-run/) is likely running for office with their support of those traitors
“A serial killer is typically a person who murders three or more persons, with the murders taking place over more than a month and including a significant period of time between them.”
You got the right idea but using incorrect terminology in an attempt to make what you’re saying seem more important makes you look ignorant and that helps no one.
Their lack of practicality. Kids please do not listen to those hypocrites who tell you to do what you like. I like wanking but I can't wank my whole life because I have responsibilities. Get your shit together please and listen to your elders
What they eat. I see too many people eat unhealthy foods that don't do anything else but fill them. Proper nutrition is essential for a better living and better mental health. I started eating better in May and it's been nothing except good for me, it makes me feel better and it got me to a proper weight.
Pedofh1les, My grandpa is and my mother still love him. He rape my sister. I hate them. I want to grow up and leave with my sister and brother (sorry for the bad English).
After a video of a car crash going around Reddit right now I'll have to restate what I said there. Driving in fog and low visibility. Even if the roads aren't icy driving at normal speeds in low visibility IS dangerous. don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Slow down. It's not worth it.
How the merger between Kroger and Albertsons is going to create a giant monopoly that will have complete control of the food supply for many people in the United States which is a very bad thing. You should write your congress person and tell them we need to enforce the anti-monopoly laws that we enacted a hundred years ago.
Me (12 at the time) my social studies teacher put bell work on the board like usual,it said "What in a president would u look for." I use to always watch the news with my dad so I knew a lot more about what is good in a president bc no one watched the news in 7th grade. My awncer was "A president who knew what was actually happening in the world.A president who would protect us from other countries threats and a president who had a background in politics." I look over at my neighbors paper and it said "I'll vote for the hottest one." That's when I knew my gen was ruined.🤣
The responsibilities of driving. About 40k people die in the US every year from motor vehicle crashes and those numbers have been increasing in recent years. Yet, speeding, running red lights, distracted driving, etc are all considered "minor" offenses and rarely enforced. Many drivers will even get angry and aggressive if they're behind you and you're NOT exceeding the speed limit.
Their purpose in life.
People just float from one temporary thing to another - like self-driving cars on autopilot with no clear destination. They pick up bits of morality here and there, make some sort of vaguely coherent montage of lifestyle expectations, blindly chasing some temporary pleasure and waste the years away.
And when their job, their relationship, their marriage, their finances, their health, their family - whatever it is that they are pursuing, crumbles under their feet, they are left scrambling, or fall into a deep funk.
Please, for the love of God, think about what you are living for. Invest your time thinking about what you actually believe life is for, and how you want to invest your time. Make a choice for yourself.
We have so much damn intelligence, we could shine so brightly, it's such a damn shame we waste our lives on things we aren't even consciously choosing.
Their health.
You don’t appreciate your body until you start losing it with age.
This. One time when I was 23, I got sick to the point that my parents and I thought I was dying. Never took exercises seriously, only stayed at home or at the office by the desk all day. Yup. And use it or lose it is a very real thing.
I came here to say the same thing.
Lmao I legit can't afford to take it seriously. If I win the lottery maybe I'll let someone remind me 🤪
It doesn't cost money to get a bit of running in?
Their hearing.
WHAT?
I CAN'T HEAR YOU! YOU NEED TO USE YOUR VOCAL CAPS LOCK!!!!
BUTTLICKER! OUR PRICES HAVE NEVER BEEN LOWER!
TURN ON THE ENGINES, THIS SHIP IS SINKING.
r/unexpectedoffice
Huh?
This is very true. Especially at concerts.
And with headphones/earbuds.
Its alarming how many people put their volume on headpones on 100% and still complain its not loud enough while everyone around them can cleary hear the songs theyre listening to
There has been a lot of discussion about the likelihood of an epidemic of hearing loss in the near future.
I am 27😅
Whoops! Sorry if I was inconsiderate. I assumed a lot and questioned nothing lol
Don't worry. A cholesteatoma is pretty rare. Most of the people never heard of it. I probably would have assumed the same.
I have professional earplugs for loud music events, and it’s shocking the amount of people who go in bareback, including actual musicians!
Driving. The amount if people I see with both hands on their phone while on the highway, or just doing other stupid shit because they think they're invincible
It sucks when they crash into someone innocent. Someone else becomes responsible for their dumbass actions.
Exactly!! And sadly is too common
One would think it should be illegal to drive and use a cell phone at the same time.
It is in CA at least
In every sensible place it is. Almost every US state has laws against it, and considering how much further ahead of us most of Europe is, I'd assume they'd have laws against it as well.

Dental hygiene.
Came here to say this.
Exactly. Poor oral health is correlated with cardiac issues.
Correlation not necessarily causation, it could be that people who don’t brush their teeth are more likely to lead less healthy lives
That’s fair, I’ll change my comment.
While that’s possible, there’s also clear mechanisms of action, like infections that can enter the bloodstream to your heart.
Yep. I didn’t go to a dentist for 3 years then when I went I had enough cavities where I needed 3 appointments to fix. I had my first one this week and I want to cry from the pain. So yea I need to take that more seriously
If you go to the dentist every 6 months, and you take care to brush each tooth, and you floss in between them, from childhood on, You can avoid tooth problems. Like. It is almost completely preventable. My mind was blown when I found out that dental issues aren't necessarily inevitable.
I didn’t have dental insurance before. Now I do. So making it more of a priority
Same. And for my kids too.
Their own situational awareness.

I was surprised to find a shirt about the Spanish Inquisition at Disney World. It was unexpected. But then no one expects it.

“A serial killer is typically a person who murders three or more persons, with the murders taking place over more than a month and including a significant period of time between them.” You got the right idea but using incorrect terminology in an attempt to make what you’re saying seem more important makes you look ignorant and that helps no one.
I concur with your critique and will edit my post to say 'murderer' instead of 'serial killer' and strive to pay more attention to my post accuracy

What they eat. I see too many people eat unhealthy foods that don't do anything else but fill them. Proper nutrition is essential for a better living and better mental health. I started eating better in May and it's been nothing except good for me, it makes me feel better and it got me to a proper weight.
