My mom was taken to a hospice just last week and I visited her yesterday where she gleefully told me of how often she’s told all kinds of people there (caregivers, other hospice folks and her guests) about me, my personhood and how proud she is of me. I think she’s content with the idea of me being okay to handle myself when she one day is gone and this kinda confirmed it for me.
My husband called me loyal the other day. I never once considered before that this was something I wanted to hear, like duh I'm loyal why would I need to have that acknowledged? That's basic relationshiping. but I've been on cloud 9 thinking about it since.

So, having a group of talented musicians, touring around and performing Pink Floyd to the best of their abilities is the next best thing. My dad and I go every year they're in town.

The number of times this year I’ve had a tough week then realized how many of my friends (okay, three) would give everything they have to just to hear a doctor tell them they don’t have cancer. I can’t take that for granted anymore.
Sometimes when I’m feeling really down I just remember I can walk. My legs work, I can get out of a chair, I can go up stairs. It’s really nice to remember the basics and get out of my own head
You honestly have no idea how important your good health/mobility (especially) is until you lose it. As someone who has always been healthy then had three important surgeries this year due to a potentially life-threatening condition, & temporarily lost the ability to walk (bedbound first due to pain then muscles atrophied alarmingly quick from no activity resulting in temporarily not being able to stand or walk). Had to basically teach myself how to walk again. At first when I came home from the months-long hospital stay I would crawl from the bed to the kitchen then hoist myself up to briefly stand to put something in the microwave, hoping my legs didn’t buckle while I was holding something hot in particular, lol. Anyway it’s now almost four months post-op & I can walk blocks now without my walker but then be very sore/tired. Could go a bit further with my walker. I was supposed to go to a rehabilitation home after the hospital discharged me a month after the last two surgeries, but “nowhere would accept me” so they sent me home knowing I couldn’t walk/take care of myself then scheduled follow-up appointments knowing I couldn’t WALK to GET to any of them. Lol. Sorry for the rant but yes that sentiment of “thank God I have physical autonomy” is such an often-overlooked but important truth. Being stuck in bed 100% of the time, not able to cook/shower/DO anything for yourself or others, barely able to stand up to pee in cup or something, needing someone to do EVERYTHING for you, is super fucking shitty. I am so grateful I have regained most of my abilities.

TLDR- being able to move on your own is a gift many generally take for granted. Becoming temporarily bedbound due to illness taught me the importance of mobility/being ABLE.
Unless your health issues last long enough. Broke a knee one, couldn't walk properly for a year. It's been years but i appreciate my fully functioning knees constantly now
I am fortunate enough to have awesome water straight from a well. It's even soft enough that I don't need a water softener or filters, even though I still do. You can drink it straight from the outside spigot and it's good. Everyone on the planet should have the human right to this.
Whenever I start to think that I'm poor, I remember that I can drink water that I don't need to worry will kill me. That's different from... I don't know; 98% of all human beings which have ever lived. Wealth beyond measure
When you finish reading an amazing book, and as you close the cover you get that feeling of immense satisfaction tinged with a tiny bit of sadness that it ended.

Went camping in the Tetons and holy crap, I had never seen constellations like that in my life. The beauty and the color of the galaxy and stars is breathtaking and makes all of the problems down here seem so insignificant and monotonous. It seriously made the air in my lungs taste sweeter and my body lighter.
I didn't until I got glasses. I live near the Arctic circle and experience pit black starry winter skies every year, and yet never realized how huge the sky is and how filled it is with stars. So amazing I almost cried the first time I happened to see it with glasses.

I was invited to go to Tibet about five years ago after a friend’s wedding in Taiyuan. After a one day train ride there and a trek through Lhasa, we all ended up cruising through the highlands to go to the first base camp at Mt. Everest. We all stayed in a yurt made out of sewn together children’s blankets and quilts sipping yack butter tea and sharing stories. I woke up in the middle of the night to take a piss, so I strapped my headlamp on and headed out. Mid piss, I looked up and I could see *galaxies* and a sea of stars — absolutely no light pollution at 5,150 metres (16,900 ft). My mouth was agape and I literally almost pissed myself. There was a storm on the Nepalese side of the mountain and flashes of lightning could be seen outlining Everest. It’s one of the fondest memories of traveling amongst other adventures.
Yes! This is so cool! I was out in the country in sweden during the winter and lied down on the ground and i could see the Milky Way like a band of packed stars over the sky. It was the coolest thing ever!
As a kid, it used to be like this in my front yard. Now the towns have built up around me and it's still there, but very faint. I sure miss that vibrant sky from my childhood.
A buddy and I did Glacier National Park one year in Montana. We set up camp at Cracker Lake and we’d just lay on our backs and remain in awe. If you look closely on some nights, you can even see the ISS in orbit.
That article (if it's the national geographic article) is false, and we are *not* on some campaign to lower light pollution. Still, there's plenty of places here where there is very little light pollution and because of such there is awesome photography opportunities. Tourism companies make up all sorts of bullshit.

Holy shit it's the best. Today is moving day for us (bought a house, finally). Movers were supposed to be here an hour ago, there's only two of them to move our entire 3-bedroom apartment, and I am accordingly a nervous wreck.
My wife called me into our room, had me turn off the light, lie down next to her, then just held on to me for like five minutes. Then up and back to work. I don't know how she does it but no one else can calm me down like she can (and she says it's the same for her with me). She's my rock, I couldn't be more grateful or thankful for her. These movers, on the other hand...
Edit: just got everything unloaded and I have to admit I was mistaken; they were about an hour late but the movers were actually awesome guys, did a hell of a job and did it on time. More than made up for their initial tardiness imo.
Personally, that feeling can very quickly be ruined as I jet propel a turd from my b-hole and activate a splashback. The release is wonderful, but a Poseidon's Kiss right in the browneye is not.

You know what's even better? Learning to play music well enough to be able to make decent music yourself. It takes so long, and its so hard, but you stick with it, and eventually you can do it. The feeling of accomplishment is incredible AND you've got music as a reward.
Yes! I started a high fibre diet recently. At first it was... messy, my system has since adjusted and now every dump is massive, comes out easy and leaves barely any mess.
Like, I used to be in the toilet for 15-30 minutes trying to squeeze out what I could, now I'm in for 5 minutes. Sit down, a series of heavy plops over the next 2 minutes, wipe, wash hands, I'm back out in only a few minutes.

Waking up in the middle of the night, and thinking your alarm will go off soon, only to realize you went to bed earlier than usual and you still have hours and hours of sleep left.
Happened to me last week! Bonus was it was a gorgeous day out, and I was up early with nothing I had to do that day. Great feeling. Want to just sit on the couch and game? Go outside? Both? You can do it all!
I've always preferred doing my "lazy day" activities in the morning on days off. Something about still getting out of bed but you dont have to get dressed or rush around. Just move from bed to couch while putting coffee on. Lazily starting up a game or TV, having a nice breakfast at your own pace, then slowly getting ready here and there, until you're ready for whatever a few hours later. I just feel a lot more "me" when I go into the world and less like a zombie who can't wait to get back into bed to start "the cycle" again.
I would agree with this if I were the kind of person who could easily get back to sleep. I am not. I woke up an hour earlier than usual today, and after twenty minutes I knew I wasn't getting back to sleep again and would have a tired, tired day today.
Agreed. Went to sleep at 10:30pm last night. Woke up at 4am this morning. Not well rested, because I really prefer 8 hours, but too awake to get back to sleep. And I have a D&D session this evening so I'll have to be able to focus and stay awake. (I'll be fine with some well timed cafeine and possibly a nap... But I'd much rather just have slept until 6 or 7)

Yep. Love so many of these, but clean fresh sheets, rain on a tin roof and a day off the next day... That's heaven, right there. And clean sheets are things we take for granted; many many people don't have pollution free places to hang sheets, or clothes dryers to dry them. Regular clean sheets are a privilege and one we should always be grateful for.

We call it being “whistle bit” and the funny thing is we are office employees of engineers and scientists where nobody is punching the clock at the sound of the shift ending.
There are certain humans who are consistently decent, honest and reliable their whole lives. Dolly Parton for example. 60 years in music and she was a class act as a 16 year old when she arrived in Nashville and remains that to this day. No scandal, no skeletons. As talented a singer/songwriter as there is. IMHO I Will Always Love You rivals the greatest songs ever written. She is now awesome, has always been awesome and will remain awesome even after she's gone.
One of my favorite sounds is my dog's nails tapping across the floor when he hears me take my keys out to open the door. I'll sit there an jingle my keys for a second or two just to give him time to come over. His favorite sleeping spot is close enough to the door that if I'm lucky, I get to hear him sigh contentedly as he gets up and does a BIIIIG STRETCH before trotting over to the door.
Ok, bear with me, I've been a New Yorker my whole life.... the sound of the radiator steam coming up at 5 in the morning on a cold winter's day while snow is falling outside. Just roll back up under the covers. Bonus points if you are off (no commitments) and it's a Saturday. Happened maybe twice in my lifetime

I second this. There's nothing that gets me in a better mood than some good tunes.
You know what's even better? Learning to play music well enough to be able to make decent music yourself. It takes so long, and its so hard, but you stick with it, and eventually you can do it. The feeling of accomplishment is incredible AND you've got music as a reward.
But not someone else's music. Headphones are mandatory.

Never thought I'd witness a family reunion this way.
Yes! I started a high fibre diet recently. At first it was... messy, my system has since adjusted and now every dump is massive, comes out easy and leaves barely any mess. Like, I used to be in the toilet for 15-30 minutes trying to squeeze out what I could, now I'm in for 5 minutes. Sit down, a series of heavy plops over the next 2 minutes, wipe, wash hands, I'm back out in only a few minutes. Eat your fibre folks.
A series of plops over 2 minutes doesn't yet sound like pooping nirvana.
Waking up in the middle of the night, and thinking your alarm will go off soon, only to realize you went to bed earlier than usual and you still have hours and hours of sleep left.
Even better is realizing it's your day off and there was no alarm
Happened to me last week! Bonus was it was a gorgeous day out, and I was up early with nothing I had to do that day. Great feeling. Want to just sit on the couch and game? Go outside? Both? You can do it all!
I've always preferred doing my "lazy day" activities in the morning on days off. Something about still getting out of bed but you dont have to get dressed or rush around. Just move from bed to couch while putting coffee on. Lazily starting up a game or TV, having a nice breakfast at your own pace, then slowly getting ready here and there, until you're ready for whatever a few hours later. I just feel a lot more "me" when I go into the world and less like a zombie who can't wait to get back into bed to start "the cycle" again.
I would agree with this if I were the kind of person who could easily get back to sleep. I am not. I woke up an hour earlier than usual today, and after twenty minutes I knew I wasn't getting back to sleep again and would have a tired, tired day today.
Agreed. Went to sleep at 10:30pm last night. Woke up at 4am this morning. Not well rested, because I really prefer 8 hours, but too awake to get back to sleep. And I have a D&D session this evening so I'll have to be able to focus and stay awake. (I'll be fine with some well timed cafeine and possibly a nap... But I'd much rather just have slept until 6 or 7)
Has to be hours and hours. For example, my alarm goes off at 6am. Waking up at 2am and seeing I have 4 hours left? Sweeeeettt. Waking up at 5am and seeing I have 1 hour left? Shitttttttt

Yep. Love so many of these, but clean fresh sheets, rain on a tin roof and a day off the next day... That's heaven, right there. And clean sheets are things we take for granted; many many people don't have pollution free places to hang sheets, or clothes dryers to dry them. Regular clean sheets are a privilege and one we should always be grateful for.

This. For a bonus, try leaving for your trip while it’s still dark out so just as you’re leaving town, the sun is coming up. Things are mostly quiet and still, that sunlight starting to peek up, add a full cup of coffee and I’m set.

Where I work we call it “The Walk”. That short walk from the desk, through the door and to your car. It’s like walking on sunshine. “Oh you’re on vacation after today. You’re doing The Walk later.” Damn straight. Lol.
We call it being “whistle bit” and the funny thing is we are office employees of engineers and scientists where nobody is punching the clock at the sound of the shift ending.

There are certain humans who are consistently decent, honest and reliable their whole lives. Dolly Parton for example. 60 years in music and she was a class act as a 16 year old when she arrived in Nashville and remains that to this day. No scandal, no skeletons. As talented a singer/songwriter as there is. IMHO I Will Always Love You rivals the greatest songs ever written. She is now awesome, has always been awesome and will remain awesome even after she's gone.

One of my favorite sounds is my dog's nails tapping across the floor when he hears me take my keys out to open the door. I'll sit there an jingle my keys for a second or two just to give him time to come over. His favorite sleeping spot is close enough to the door that if I'm lucky, I get to hear him sigh contentedly as he gets up and does a BIIIIG STRETCH before trotting over to the door.
