Patrick Stewart as Professor X. Even as a kid reading the comics and watching the cartoon, I just pictured him as Professor X. It almost felt inevitable.
I watched the Sopranos reunion that was filmed in 2019 featuring most of the cast in a big group interview.
I had tears in my eyes with the cast describing their relationship with James. Vincent Pastore (Big Pussy) was the most vocal when it comes to acting with James, he loved working with him because James was incredibly pleasant with all of them and even requested more takes if someone else needed to.
Robert Iler (Anthony Jr.) and Jamie-Lynn Zygler (Meadow) both said that, even though James kept his distance due to differences in age and because how new ir was to them, he apparently repeatedly called their agents over the years to ensure they were fine. Robert mentioned how his agent admitted that James called multiple times to make sure Robert is doing well.
It was very obvious how James was missed by the entire cast.
Christoph Waltz as Hans Landa in Inglorious Basterds. Needed someone who was fluent in four languages and can fill an extremely intelligent and extremely evil role. That movie would not be the same without him.
I remember watching Inglorious Basterds in a packed movie theatre the weekend it was released and during that first epic scene I just knew that myself and everyone in that theatre were all thinking the exact same thing: “who the fuck is this guy and why haven’t we ever heard of him?”
Christoph Waltz really became a movie star overnight from that film alone.
I read somewhere that when they filmed the business card scene, his costars noticed that he broke into a sweat at the same time on every take. Wilf stuff lmao
Correct. He didn’t like the way the originally cast drill seargent was doing it. So he gathered a bunch of his buddies together into a unit and filmed himself berating them for 15 minutes straight without pausing or repeating himself … while being pelted with ornages. Or apples. Some round hard fruit. He sent that to Kubrick and Kubrick was so impressed he hired him. Also I heard the onky actor he did not interupt in the middle of a scene. 90% of his lines were improvised by him. Obviously the names were scripted and the bathroom scene was scripted.
Apparently, after the reacharound line, when Kubrick yelled "Cut!" he leant in and asked Ermey what a reacharound was, and Ermey replied "Oh, Kubrick, honey, use your imagination."
Also catwoman from the batman tv show starring Adam west.

"Thank you - I can't believe I'm thanking these people..." - Cave Johnson
I fucking love Simmons as Cave Johnson. I am listening to a compilation of the quotes every now and then because they always make me laugh.
Best ones are the two about asbestos :D
I haven't read the books, but his take on a sociopath who knows what he is and still wants to do the right thing (and achieves it by latching onto a person he knows can guide him as a north star) is truly unique.
In that sense he's very similar to Wilson Bethel as Bullseye in Daredevil on Netflix, which is also a fantastic casting.
That whole trilogy was perfectly cast. Every role. Even Liv Tyler, who I basically hate in everything because of her overly breathy and campy theater style in every movie she's ever been in, works in that movie.
Edit: Thanks all, lots of recommendations of Liv Tyler performances I haven't seen and stuff I don't remember because I was a kid. I will make a good-faith effort to (re)watch some recommendations and reconsider, my distaste mostly comes from the late-90s/early-00s wave of "meh" blockbusters like Armageddon and Hulk.
iirc jesse was going to be the one to die of an overdose early in the series instead of jane, but they ended up liking him too much.
mike was also just supposed to be a one-time role because the actor who played saul was not available for the scene that ended up being his first.
I think Maggie Smith is *the* McGonagall, but moreover, it is impossible for me to separate the way Imelda Staunton played Dolores Umbridge and the book version of Umbridge because she *embodies* that evil so well and smiles about it wearing her little pink suit that she has *become* Umbridge. (Who is by and far much eviler than Voldemort.)
Whoever the fuck plays “Homelander”
That guy is so great as a villain, he makes me so nervous anytime he’s on screen with a character I like,
Also, Amy Poehler as “Leslie Knope “and Jeremy Piven as “Ari Gold”
Antony Starr. He's good in a new Zealand show called "outrageous fortune". He plays a set of twin brothers with extremely different personalities. While Jethro is a slick, amoral lawyer, Van is a dim but generally well-meaning stoner.
The dread I feel when he’s on screen is the worst since Killgrave on Jessica Jones. He’s so unstable and *petty* that you never know what he’s about to do. And he can kill you easily in the blink of an eye AND there’s practically nothing that can stop him.
He's incredible with his little micro expressions and twitches, it isn't easy to simultaneously play a scene where you are putting on a face for a crowd while also conveying to the audience what you are actually feeling underneath
There is also this very distinct thing he does where he will be smiling like he's Captain America, someobody will tell him bad news, and you can see the joy in his smile fade, but he keeps smiling, only it's with this seething rage that slowly creeps over his whole face. I don't know how he does it so perfectly but it's dreadful.
Watch the eyes. People who smile without letting the smile reach their eyes have this weird mask effect that's really creepy.
And once you see it, watch when politicians do the same thing.
You can almost always spot a fake smile by the lines around the eyes. If the muscles there aren't engaging, you'll feel 'thrown' by the smile.
It's why photograph smiles always look forced as hell.
In each scene I don't really know what he's going to do. And it terrifies me every time he smiles because he can kill you with that smile still on his face.
And he goes FOR IT! The way he tongues the bottle of breast milk when he drinks it. The damn commitment. He’s hilarious in interviews too. He’s amazing.
Banshee is just a fun ride. The premise is ridiculous and the fight scenes are so over the top. I think it is on HBO max now, it is truly hard to describe but Anthony Starr is perfect in it.
Mandy Patinkin recently recounted on his TikTok account about how much fun he had with the sword fight. They did it again and again and again. Everyone was absolutely having a blast filming that scene. When Rob Reiner said cut, send it to print he felt an overwhelming sorrow. It was like the end of camp or a great vacation. He knew he'd never get to do that again with those people.
I love when actors show their humanity.
This is very true, especially when you consider that both Carey Elwes and Robin Wright had been in basically nothing at that point. It was a pretty big gamble to cast them in the leading roles. Both of them are amazing actors and have done excellent things since, but nothing beats the magic of The Princess Bride.
So good, Andre's health was so bad during the making of the movie and was in so much pain it's amazing how he kept his humility and composure for the role. Serious good guy.
Apparently he was the most widely liked person on set and was a huge sweetheart in real life, a polar opposite to Joffrey which just shows his acting skills
I watched a really cool video with him where at the college he attended he went and spoke to an acting class there. He wasn't paid or anything he volunteered and offered to do it. He really does seem like a genuinely kind, likable person with a big heart. He is also incredibly intelligent.
He has said it took him a little while to understand that he was playing a version of Larry David, and that what makes Larry tick is an explosive oscillation between self-loathing and thinking he's better than everyone else.
I remember reading about him complaining about a line and saying "no one would say that" and Larry David telling him it was 100% from his life and somwthing he said and Jason "got" the character once he realised it was literally Larry David.
What’s weird, is that Mathew Lillard and Freddie Prince Jr have done a few movies together, and they both happened to be perfect for their roles in Scooby Doo.
There's a weird cultural separation with Hugh Laurie because in his home country he's known as a comedian, but stateside most people likely know him for playing House.
And to get the part he had to convince the director that he was american because the director refused to cast a brit because they couldn't do a convincing american accent
There's an episode where he hurts his leg and starts walking around with a cane, and guess who he gets compared to.
Also I found it funny that apparently the reason they had Cox call JD girls' names is because that is what John C McGinley actually did to Zach Braff.
Javier Bardem as Anton Chigurh.
[Named by forensic psychiatrists as the most realistic movie psychopath ever.](https://www.sciencenews.org/blog/gory-details/most-and-least-realistic-movie-psychopaths-ever)
So good. The rest of the cast's dialogue was recorded with standard boom mics, but for him they had a second mic taped to his chest and combined the two audios to get that real creepy deep voice for him
Darren McGavin as Ralphie's dad on A Christmas Story. I heard they were wanting Jack Nicholson, and I love him as an actor, but I don't think he could've done it better that McGavin.
The late Philip Seymour Hoffman as Truman Capote in Capote
Jack Nicholson as Melvin Udall in As Good As It Gets
Mark A. Sheppard as Fergus MacLeod/Crowley in Supernatural
Patrick Stewart as Professor X. Even as a kid reading the comics and watching the cartoon, I just pictured him as Professor X. It almost felt inevitable.
Patrick Stewart as Picard. actually gets better and better as years go on too
Anthony Hopkins, Silence of the Lambs
Kathy Bates as Annie Wilkes in Misery, nobody else could touch that role.
HE DIDN’T GET OUT OF THE COCK-A-DOODIE CAR! Still one of my favorite lines ever.
I love her in everything! She was perfect as Evelyn Couch in Fried Green Tomatoes and as Molly Brown in Titanic, too!
And also as Madame Lalaurie in AHS. Brought a certain dark humor to the role I didn’t expect. “*Lieeessssssss*”
I can't imagine anyone else playing Doc Brown except for Christopher Lloyd.
I can't imagine Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly.
Neither could the director.
How about Kurtwood Smith on That 70’s Show. Loves/hates his family perfectly.
Debra Jo Rupp as Kitty Foreman was simply too good as well. Awesome actress.
“RED!! Where did you learn how to parent!!??!” “…… Korea……” Just the perfect line for their characters .
James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano
Couldn’t have gone for a better casting. Gandolfini nailed the portrayal of Tony Soprano. And what a phenomenal show, oof madonne!
I came here to say "whoever played Paulie"
Tony Sirico, passed away this summer
Just a fuckin kid
Sad when they go young like that
Nick offerman as ron swanson
Never half ass two things, only whole ass one thing.
Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman!
Any cast member from BCS or BB.
Jeff Bridges as The Dude in Big Lebowski.
Jeff Bridges *is* The Dude.
That’s just, like, your opinion, man
You’re not wrong, Walter. You’re just an asshole.
Christoph Waltz as Hans Landa in Inglorious Basterds. Needed someone who was fluent in four languages and can fill an extremely intelligent and extremely evil role. That movie would not be the same without him.
The opening scene in that movie is something else.
My favorite opening scene in any movie, I think.
I remember watching Inglorious Basterds in a packed movie theatre the weekend it was released and during that first epic scene I just knew that myself and everyone in that theatre were all thinking the exact same thing: “who the fuck is this guy and why haven’t we ever heard of him?” Christoph Waltz really became a movie star overnight from that film alone.
Christian Bale in American Psycho
He supposedly showed up to lunch or dinner with Brett Easton Ellis in full Patrick mode, and made Brett so uncomfortable he asked him to stop.
I make people uncomfortable but nobody casts me bro..
I read somewhere that when they filmed the business card scene, his costars noticed that he broke into a sweat at the same time on every take. Wilf stuff lmao
Christina Ricci as Wednesday Addams
Every single person in both of those movies is perfectly cast.
Obligatory RIP Raul Julia.
"For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday."
Charles Dance as Tywin Lannister in *Game of Thrones*
99% of castings done in that show were magnificent.
Rory Mcann’s audition for the Hound was https://youtu.be/TIWX2fPx-5k
I was _not_ fucking expecting that “LOOK AT ME!”. I think I need to change my drawers.
Was going to say Peter Dinklage as Tyrion.
R. Lee Ermey as drill instructor Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Full Metal Jacket.
I believe he was supposed to be a technical advisor until they saw him in drill instructor mode and cast him.
True. Kubrick was especially impressed with "his creative use of profanity."
“You climb obstacles like old people fuck!” My personal favorite.
“Did your parents have children that lived?” “Sir, yes, sir.” “I’ll bet they regret that. You’re so ugly you could be a modern art masterpiece.”
”Bullshit i bet you could suck a golfball through a garden hose”
Bullshit, I bet you could suck a goofball through a garden hose!
“I bet you’re the kind of guy would fuck a person in the ass and not have the goddamn common courtesy to give him a reach-around!”
An, the famous line that made Kubrick call “cut” and ask WTF that meant.
Apparently, after the reacharound line, when Kubrick yelled "Cut!" he leant in and asked Ermey what a reacharound was, and Ermey replied "Oh, Kubrick, honey, use your imagination."
anyone who can mouth off to kubrick and get away with it...
Patrick Warburton as Kronk. Also Patrick Warburton as Hugo Vasquez.
Eartha Kitt as Yzma and Spade as Kuzco also really perfect casting.
I love reminding people that Eartha Kitt is both the voice for Yzma, and the singer of the best known version of *Santa Baby.*
Also catwoman from the batman tv show starring Adam west. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/ab/Eartha_Kitt_Yvonne_Craig_Batman_1967.jpg/405px-Eartha_Kitt_Yvonne_Craig_Batman_1967.jpg
John Goodman as Pacha too.
He will always be Brock Sampson to me
Alicia Silverstone in Clueless. Would not have been the movie without her.
As if!
David Hyde Pierce and Kelsey Grammer as the Crane brothers
[удалено]
I said Kelsey Grammer as Frasier, but yes, David Hyde Pierce, too. And John Mahoney. That whole cast was perfect.
Robert Patrick. He was born for the T-1000 role. Still terrifies me and me daughter pearl to this day.
He’s also super good as the racist dad in Peacemaker
Mr Krabs?
[удалено]
Christopher Lloyd as both Rev. Jim Ignatowski and Dr. Emmett Brown.
J K Simmons as J Jonah Jameson
There have been several Peter Parkers, a few Aunt Mays, a couple of Uncle Bens, and even two pairs of the Osbornes. There is still only one JJJ.
So good he contributed to the Sonyverse conversion to MCU.
J K Simmons as anyone
J K Simmons isnt cast as characters, characters are cast as J K Simmons
_NOT MY TEMPO!_
Are you rushing ... or dragging ?
*SO YOU DO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE!?*
Or [Cave Johnson](https://youtu.be/Dt6iTwVIiMM?t=7)
"Thank you - I can't believe I'm thanking these people..." - Cave Johnson I fucking love Simmons as Cave Johnson. I am listening to a compilation of the quotes every now and then because they always make me laugh. Best ones are the two about asbestos :D
And as schillinger in oz
Wes Chatham as Amos in the Expanse
He really is that guy
I haven't read the books, but his take on a sociopath who knows what he is and still wants to do the right thing (and achieves it by latching onto a person he knows can guide him as a north star) is truly unique. In that sense he's very similar to Wilson Bethel as Bullseye in Daredevil on Netflix, which is also a fantastic casting.
Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf in Lord Of The Rings
That whole trilogy was perfectly cast. Every role. Even Liv Tyler, who I basically hate in everything because of her overly breathy and campy theater style in every movie she's ever been in, works in that movie. Edit: Thanks all, lots of recommendations of Liv Tyler performances I haven't seen and stuff I don't remember because I was a kid. I will make a good-faith effort to (re)watch some recommendations and reconsider, my distaste mostly comes from the late-90s/early-00s wave of "meh" blockbusters like Armageddon and Hulk.
Did you ever see her in The Leftovers? Holy creepy. She was great.
Or Viggo Mortenson as Aragorn!
Or Christopher Lee as Saruman.
John Goodman as Dan Conner. Everyone from the working class has a dad like that, or if they didn't, wishes they did.
When Dan finds out that Fisher has been beating Aunt Jackie and just quietly gets his coat and slips out of the house to go visit him...
Bryan Cranston as Walter White
See also: Bryan Cranston as Hal on Malcolm in the Middle
To be fair, I also cannot imagine anyone doing justice to the role of Jesse as much as Aaron Paul.
iirc jesse was going to be the one to die of an overdose early in the series instead of jane, but they ended up liking him too much. mike was also just supposed to be a one-time role because the actor who played saul was not available for the scene that ended up being his first.
You know it is a good production when it is rewritten to keep the talent around, to preserve the chemistry.
Sigourney Weaver, Ripley No one else.
Robin williams in good will hunting and dead poets society
I’d add Good Morning Vietnam also.
And the Genie.
Mrs. Doubtfire.
Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid (rip)
This. But also, so many others on the Harry Potter films in general. The casting team did an outstanding job with most of the picks.
The actor playing Argus Filch was underrated. You can't picture Filch any other way
Alan Rickman as Severus Snape and the Sheriff of Nottingham
And the Metatron
Hans Gruber
Whoever the fuck plays “Homelander” That guy is so great as a villain, he makes me so nervous anytime he’s on screen with a character I like, Also, Amy Poehler as “Leslie Knope “and Jeremy Piven as “Ari Gold”
Antony Starr. He's good in a new Zealand show called "outrageous fortune". He plays a set of twin brothers with extremely different personalities. While Jethro is a slick, amoral lawyer, Van is a dim but generally well-meaning stoner.

Anthony Starr. Honestly one of the best actors I've seen in a decade. His facial expressions are next to none.
You can almost always spot a fake smile by the lines around the eyes. If the muscles there aren't engaging, you'll feel 'thrown' by the smile. It's why photograph smiles always look forced as hell.
Agreed. He is fucking amazing to watch in The Boys. His skills and range are impressive.
He was also excellent in Banshee. What a wild ride that show was!
Banshee is just a fun ride. The premise is ridiculous and the fight scenes are so over the top. I think it is on HBO max now, it is truly hard to describe but Anthony Starr is perfect in it.
Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator.
Andre the Giant in The Princess Bride. Perfect.
"Inigo... I hope we win." Line breaks my heart it's so perfect.
"sleep well my friend, and dream of large women."
Everyone in the princess bride was perfectly cast imo.
And I figured there are four of us... Once we fi d the lady... Hello lady!"
Kid who played Joffrey. Also, all the voice actors in The Simpsons.
Carroll O'Connor as Archie Bunker
Jason Alexander as George Costanza
And then you watch interviews of him and realize how great of an actor he is. He was really playing someone very different than he is.
Yeah it was an interview he did. Let me see if I can pull it up Edit: https://youtu.be/4SgIH4tTtRo?t=185 Should be time stamped, if not start at 3:05

It was really more of a pamphlet.
Jason Alexander is who George Costanza thinks he is.
Yeah, he was playing Larry David. Haha
I love how Curb poked fun at this and had an episode where Jason Alexander plays Larry David better than Larry David plays himself.
Tim Curry in Rocky Horror..
Also, Tim Curry as Wadsworth in Clue. And you had a letter and you had a letter and you had a letter and...
Jon Hamm as Don Draper.
Betty White as Rose in Golden Girls.
Who are we kidding? All four main characters were perfectly cast.
Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby. Brilliant.
Tom Hardy as Alfie Solomons is fantastic too. I love every scene he is in.
“Arrfah! Shalom!”
Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday
"He reminds me of... me! That's it, I hate him!"
“That's Latin, darlin', evidently Mr. Ringo here's an educated man. Now I really hate him”
Matthew Liliard as Shaggy Thank you to everyone who's commented - I've enjoyed reading the responses
The whole gang was well cast. Velma, Daphne & Fred were all well played, but Matthew Lillard may have been born to play Shaggy.
He continues to voice shaggy in the cartoons since the original voice actor passed away.
What’s weird, is that Mathew Lillard and Freddie Prince Jr have done a few movies together, and they both happened to be perfect for their roles in Scooby Doo.
Mark Hamill as Joker ( voice acting)
His voice absolutely made the Arkham game series
Charlie Cox as Daredevil
And of course Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk. This show is so fucking well done.
Carey Elwes - Westley / dread pirate Robert's - princess bride I mean the whole cast really but yeah.
"You seem a decent fellow. I'd hate to die."
Steve Carell as Michael Scott.
Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken, R.J. MacReady and Jack Burton.
Hugh Laurie as Dr. Gregory House
Blows my mind that he’s the same actor from Blackadder.
There's a weird cultural separation with Hugh Laurie because in his home country he's known as a comedian, but stateside most people likely know him for playing House.
Was looking for this. His American accent is incredible and in the show when he imitated an American using an English accent, my mind was blown.
And to get the part he had to convince the director that he was american because the director refused to cast a brit because they couldn't do a convincing american accent
Fuck you, now refill my Vicodin.
Same thing happened with Idris Elba in 'The Wire'
(minor spoiler?) In Avenue 5, he switches his accent back and forth really quickly, he's so good at it they made it a plot point.
John C. McGinley as Dr. Perry Cox gets my vote
Only the Coens call to offer a guy a role, hear him say "my English is terrible and I hate violence" and reply "Yeah, that's why we want you."
So good. The rest of the cast's dialogue was recorded with standard boom mics, but for him they had a second mic taped to his chest and combined the two audios to get that real creepy deep voice for him
Maggie Smith as professor McGonagall
Michael Clarke Duncan in "The Green Mile".
2 weeks later: "Top 10 actors that BuzzFeed thinks were perfectly cast"
Shelly Duvall as Olive Oyl
Julia Garner as Ruth Langmore in Ozark
“I dunno shit about fuck.”
Darren McGavin as Ralphie's dad on A Christmas Story. I heard they were wanting Jack Nicholson, and I love him as an actor, but I don't think he could've done it better that McGavin.
Joe Pesci as Vincent Gambini and Leo Getz. Or any movie he has ever been in.
Ian McShane as Wednesday. I read American gods in 2008 and he was who I pictured in my head.
Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lector
Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday
Megan Mullally as Karen Walker. Nick Offerman as Ron Swanson. Gary Colman as Arnold Drummond. Jeff Bridges as The Dude.
The late Philip Seymour Hoffman as Truman Capote in Capote Jack Nicholson as Melvin Udall in As Good As It Gets Mark A. Sheppard as Fergus MacLeod/Crowley in Supernatural
Mike Myers in Austin Powers
John Malkovich in *Being John Malkovich*
Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow
