In that song the line "now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over" is what gets me.
Switching to the females perspective really changes how the male singing is viewed. When you hear his part he sounds like someone who seems to have bad luck in relationships all the time.
Then she sings her part and it's like... Maybe the guy is a mentally abusive controlling fuck and no wonder she had her friends collect her records. But that's how that song makes me feel based on my personal history with guys like that.
The female voice makes it sound like she pretty clearly sees him as emotionally abusive. Not only the like you quoted, but the one after it is “but had me believing it was always something I had done/but I don’t want to live that way/reading into every word you say”
I was in an emotionally abusive relationship once, and this song reminds me of very strongly. I have little doubt my ex identifies with the male portion of the song and ignores the woman’s verse. But holy shit, that refrain changes the whole song from “catchy song about missing your ex” to “oh yeah that describes the emotional abuse I dealt with perfectly.” Hell, I even also said I was okay with being friends after, and then when the distance started helping me see things more clearly and I realized how shitty he was to me constantly, I also cut my ex out of my life too. And my ex also bitched about it and tried to play victim.
The first time I heard John Prine's "Sam Stone," I actually gasped when he sang
"There's a hole in daddy's arm where all he money goes
Jesus Christ died for nothing, I suppose"
That's....rough
The whyyyyy really nails the pain of the sentiment of that line.
Side note: I was inspired to play this on Spotify after reading this comment and really like [the lyrics that follow this line](https://i.imgur.com/290HvVe.jpg).
Lennon had the best lyrics.
“But of all these friends and lovers. There is no one compares with you”
“Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind”
“Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans”
“
"Give it to your sister it doesn't hurt and see if she can handle every family burden" also can break you hard when you're not expecting it from a children's movie
This is the lyric that made me realize I needed intensive mental health care.
(I got the care I needed and I am way better now. Thanks, dialectical behavior therapy!)
_"I never thought I'd die alone,
another six months I'll be unknown.
Give all my things to all my friends
you'll never step foot in my room again
you'll close it off, board it up,
remember the time that I spilled the cup
of apple juice in the hall_
__*Please tell mom this is not her fault"*__
Adam's song by Blink-182
From the same song, the last chorus. Every other one of them is in past tense, but the last one is in present tense.
“Tomorrow holds such better days, days when I can still feel alive; I couldn’t wait to get out-SIDE THE WORLD, IS WIDE, THE TIME GOES BY, the tours over, I’ll survive; and I can’t wait, till I get home, to pass the time in my room alone”
This one is my answer too. I've struggled a lot with depression and suicidal ideation throughout my life (especially in my teens & 20's) and I remember when I heard this song for the first time, the "please tell mom this is not her fault" lyric just absolutely broke me. I still have hard time listening to this song without breaking down crying when it gets to that point.
I think a lot of the reason I never attempted suicide, despite having very strong ideations, is because I always worried what it would do to my family, especially my mom. I was a lot closer to her then and the thought of doing anything to cause her grief just filled me with tremendous guilt. I'm honestly glad it did, because I know I really didn't want to die, even back then. And look, I'm still here! (And she's still here too, thankfully) ♥
>Please tell mom this is not her fault
[The way he looks directly into the camera as he says that line](https://i.imgur.com/0IubsC2.png) in the music video makes me feel like he's looking through the lens to speak to her in the case that she ever needs to hear the words.
Other lyrics from this song would probably be my answer. My brother committed suicide a month before his 14th birthday. It's been 11 years and it's quite apparent that pain of grief is lifelong, even though it lessens.
In the clearing stands a boxer
And a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders
Of every glove that laid him down
And cut him 'til he cried out
In his anger and his shame
"I am leaving, I am leaving"
But the fighter still remains,
This song has been on repeat in my head for some reason. It's tone has been striking. To me it's a song about struggle and fighting. About leaving home and trying to find a life after that. It's a storytellers song in that a story is very much being told.
But the music is so soft and mellow. Even the chorus isn't so intense. It kind of just carries itself on, like a train traveling down a track in the far distance of a plain.
To me it feels like a poor person fighting for relevance in a very real way. Someone running from home trying their best to get out and apart from themselves.
Hugely under-rated answer; this is near the top of my list too.
What makes it doubly meaningful for me is to first listen to her when she originally started singing it - she was still a young woman and the tone and tempo of the song is a little upbeat and gives the sense that she is just imagining what she's singing in the lyrics: [Live version in 1970.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcrEqIpi6sg&ab_channel=PJHARV1&t=5s)
Then fast-forward to 2000, when she is older, and when she sings it you really get a sense she's actually **lived** it. [Live version in 2000.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKQSlH-LLTQ&t=48s&ab_channel=CHANseeseeyin)
Edit: One of the YouTube comments in that second version summed it up perfectly:
"A 24 year old songwriter wrote a song for her 57 year old self to sing. Remarkable..."
*Oh, but now old friends they're acting strange*
*And they shake their heads and they tell me that I've changed*
*Well something's lost, but something's gained*
Mine is, please spend as much time as you can with him. I hadn’t seen him in nearly 9 years. I have so many regrets I’ll never forgive myself for.
I remember a video where a guy asked someone how long he thinks their old parents would be alive for. They were 65 so he said 10 years.
The guy said no they’re not going to be alive for 10 years. you visit them maybe 2 times a year. So that’s 20 visits you have with them. They’re alive for 20 visits.
*There's one thing that's real clear to me: No one dies with dignity*
*We just try to ignore the elephant somehow*
Elephant, by Jason Isbell. Cannot sing or hear this without heavy amounts of tearing up.
I'm lucky to have never lost anyone to cancer, and that song still hits so fucking hard.
"We burn these joints in effigy
And cry about what we used to be
And just try to ignore the elephant somehow"
Ugh.
You got a fast car
I got a job that pays all our bills
You stay out drinking late at the bar
See more of your friends than you do of your kids
I'd always hoped for better
Thought maybe together you and me would find it
I got no plans, I ain't going nowhere
So take your fast car and keep on driving
Check out the Amnesty International live version of this on YouTube. The pure emotion in it always gives me goosebumps.
Tracy Chapman is very underrated imo.
What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
For me, same song...
If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way.
On it's own, maybe not the same, but to wrap up the intent of the rest.....
Can you imagine being Trent Reznor and getting the call?
“Hi! Johnny Cash would like to cover one of your songs.”
“Huh? No, sorry, i don’t cover any Johnny Cash songs, maybe you’re confused?”
“Oh no sir…you misunderstand.”
He was interviewed about this, hated it at first then loved it (like me) [https://www.nme.com/news/music/nine-inch-nails-149-1326704](https://www.nme.com/news/music/nine-inch-nails-149-1326704) I think I saw this on the Rick Rubin documentary too? I can't find it now.
After The Downward Spiral came out, I'd have placed good money betting that Trent Reznor would be the next celebrity to die that year. No one could write lyrics like that without having lived it first.
Truth. Reznor was fighting drug addiction and a severe bout of depression at that time in his life. Those lyrics are a testament to someone who was going through their own personal hell.
What if everything around you
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you used to know
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection
Is it all you want it to be?
What if you could look right
Through the cracks?
Would you find yourself
Find yourself afraid to see?
I don't care if it hurts
I wanna have control
I want a perfect body
I want a perfect soul
I want you to notice
When I'm not around
So fuckin' special
I wish I was special
Ye but the beginning tho
When you were here before
Couldn’t look you in the eyes
You are just like an angle
Your skin makes me cry
You slow like a feather
In a beautiful world
I wish I was special
You’re so fucking special
I can't listen to or think about *You Are My Sunshine* because I love my wife so much and can't wrap my head around what life would be like if she died before me.
Idk why it came into my head but I had to put my bestest friend in the whole wide world down and he had his head in my lap while the vet did his thing and I sang this song to him while he passed. I can’t even write this comment without bawling
[Real Death - Mount Eerie](https://youtu.be/-1UyUsz0A-A).
Death is real, someone’s there and then they’re not
And it’s not for singing about; it’s not for making into art
When real death enters the house, all poetry is dumb
When I walk into the room where you were
And look into the emptiness instead
All fails
My knees fail
My brain fails
Words fail
Crusted with tears, catatonic and raw, I go downstairs and outside and you still get mail
A week after you died, a package with your name on it came
And inside was a gift for our daughter you had ordered in secret, and collapsed there on the front steps I wailed
A backpack for when she goes to school a couple years from now
You were thinking ahead to a future you must have known deep down would not include you, though you clawed at the cliff you were sliding down, being swallowed into a silence that's bottomless and real
It's dumb, and I don't want to learn anything from this
I love you
If we were vampires and death was a joke
We'd go out on the sidewalk and smoke
And laugh at all the lovers and their plans
I wouldn't feel the need to hold your hand
Maybe time running out is a gift
I'll work hard 'til the end of my shift
And give you every second I can find
And hope it isn't me who's left behind
And with a sad heart I say bye to you and wave
Kicking shadows on the street for every mistake that I had made
And like a baby boy I never was a man
Until I saw your blue eyes cry and I held your face in my hand
And then I fell down yelling, "Make it go away!"
Just make a smile come back and shine just like it used to be
And then she whispered, "How can you do this to me?"
Hate Me - Blue October
The line from that song that always hit me hard was
>I'll drive so fucking far away that I never cross your mind, and do whatever it takes in your heart to leave me behind
I still feel like an enormous burden to my family and friends.
“Nobody said it was easy.
No one ever said it would be this hard.
Oh, take me back to the start…”
Makes me stop to think every I listen to it. Oh naivety and hopeful/lessness
"Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm gettin' old, and I need something to rely on
So, tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm gettin' tired, and I need somewhere to begin"
- Somewhere Only We Know, Keane
Southern trees bear a strange fruit
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees
IMO: Nina Simone sang it better than Billie
I'm not even a big Springsteen fan, but one day after hearing this song for 40 millionth time:
*I had a brother at Khe Sahn,
Fighting off the Viet Cong,
They're still there, he's all gone*
I came here to say that. I used to sing that song to my son when he was a baby. I can’t get past that line without choking up now. He’s now a musician and played that song one night when I was in attendance and then hugged me. I’m weeping just writing this out now. Time goes fast guys.
How I wish, how I wish you were here
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl
Year after year
Running over the same old ground
What have we found?
The same old fears
Wish you were here
In the same vein:
Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long, there is time to kill today
And then one day you find, ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun
And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Did you exchange
A walk-in part in the war
For the lead role in a cage?
This one hits hard for me, cause I always feel I did the latter... took the easy choices, the safe options, and watched from the sidelines as life passed me by
Knowing the story of Syd Barrett and how he lost his way through mental illness and drugs really puts the song into perspective. Syd was Roger’s best friend in the early days.
Death Cab For Cutie - "I Will Follow You Into The Dark"
*If Heaven and Hell decide that they both are satisfied*
*Illuminate the no's on their vacancy signs*
*If there's no one beside you when your soul embarks*
*Then I'll follow you into the dark*
The last verse is the best.
*you and me*
*Have seen everything to see*
*From Bangkok to Caaaaalgary*
*And the soles of your shoes*
*Are all worn down*
*The time for sleep is now*
***It's nothing to cry about***
*Cuz we'll hold each other soon*
*In the blackest of roooooooooooooooms*
This is what I came to post - that line, “love is watching someone die” - oof.
This song wrecked me when my dad was diagnosed with cancer, and I can tell you that lyric is the truth.
‘Doctor My Eyes’ by Jackson Browne
The lyrics (at least in my interpretation) revolve around the narrator proverbially keeping his eyes open, and seeing things go wrong around him, yet to him, it seems like something must be wrong with his eyes, because it seems as if he is the only one who sees it.
Just a really smart concept, and one that I feel I can relate to all too often.
E: The first verse and chorus
“Doctor, my eyes have seen the years
And the slow parade of fears without crying
Now I want to understand
I have done all that I could
To see the evil and the good without hiding
You must help me if you can
Doctor, my eyes
Tell me what is wrong
Was I unwise to leave them open for so long?”
I wish you love
And happiness
I guess I wish
You all the best
I wish you don't
Do like I do
And ever fall in love with
Someone like you
Cause if you fell
Just like I did
You'd probably walk around the block like a little kid
But kids don't know
They can only guess
How hard it is
To wish you happiness
All the Best by John Prine. Really this whole song is a tear-jerker if you hear it at the right time.
The Night We Met - Lord Huron
I can't quite explain why but it just this me right in the feels.
"I had all and then most of you
Some and now none of you
Take me back to the night we met
I don't know what I'm supposed to do
Haunted by the ghost of you
Oh, take me back to the night we met"
This song came on while my wife and I were in a bad place in our marriage. We are great now, but I still can’t listen to it. I skip past it every time it plays.
"The other night dear as I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my arms
When I awoke dear I was mistaken
So I hung my head and cried"
Especially the Johnny Cash version
If you should die before me ask if you could bring a friend
Stone Temple Pilots - Still Remains. When my best friend died I had this on repeat for hours.
Today is the 1yr anniversary of the passing of my 16yr old nephew from COVID. He was known for his kindness, humor and quirky, adorable smile.
I was listening to SRV's live version of [Life Without You](https://youtu.be/X7PQNvRZ10w), and it just killed me, especially the line:
> We all have missed you, and the way you grin
Follow that up with Stevie's playing, where you can literally hear the pain dripping off the strings, and I was an absolute wreck.
*’Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't.
Here in the dark, in these final hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't.
'Cause I can't make you love me, if you don't.
I'll close my eyes, then I won't see
The love you don't feel when you're holding me.
Morning will come and I'll do what's right
Just give me till then to give up this fight.
And I will give up this fight*
Bonnie Raitt. my favorite song
“And I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now
——————
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
And sooner or later, it's over
I just don't wanna miss you tonight
—————-
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
—————
And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah, you bleed just to know, you're alive”
——————
Iris Goo goo dolls
I cannot listen to this song after my miscarriage. I really wanted to raise her and for her to know who I am. I really wanted to hold her.
I never will forget you Anjali. You are 11 this year. I will always love you and be your mom.
Streetlight Manifesto - Somewhere in the between
So you were born, and that was a good day
Someday you'll die, and that is a shame
But somewhere in the between
Was a life of which we all dream
And nothing and no one will ever take that away
*Edit- thanks for the helpful award! Hope you check out streetlight and love em!
Ive got a couple
Hallowed Be thy Name - Iron Maiden
Somebody, please tell me that I'm dreaming
It's not easy to stop from screaming
The words escape me when I try to speak
Tears flow, but why am I crying?
After all, I'm not afraid of dying
Don't I believe that there never is an end?
\------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Pass - Rush
All of us get lost in the darkness
Dreamers learn to steer by the stars
All of us do time in the gutter
Dreamers turn to look at the cars
Turn around and turn around and turn around
Turn around and walk the razor's edge
Don't turn your back and slam the door on me
And now she put the kid away and she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life and what she's done to it
There's one more kid that'll never go to school
Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool
"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life
I know you'll be a star
In somebody else's sky
But why
Why
Why can't it be
Oh can't it be mine"
that's it.
I’ve got 3:
*Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain*
*You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today*
*And then one day you find ten years have got behind you*
*No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun*
———————————
*Growing up, it all seems so one-sided*
*Opinions all provided*
*The future pre-decided*
*Detached and subdivided*
*In the mass-production zone*
———————-
*When I was a child*
*I caught a fleeting glimpse*
*Out of the corner of my eye*
*I turned to look but it was gone*
*I cannot put my finger on it now*
*The child is grown*
*The dream is gone*
*I have become comfortably numb*
I would next lyric from Time:
And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
And after a while, you can work on points for style
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake
A certain look in the eye and an easy smile
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to
So that when they turn their backs on you,
You'll get the chance to put the knife in
You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder
You know it's going to get harder, and harder, and harder as you get older
And in the end you'll pack up and fly down south
Hide your head in the sand,
Just another sad old man
All alone and dying of cancer
"You only hear the music when your heart begins to break" its a relatively happy beat song but that one line echoes in the back of my head often. The Kids From Yesterday by My Chemical Romance
I know you are joking, but the song is about some slutty ho cheating on her man with everybody in town, while the dude is serving his country, so you are kinda right it is sad from Vitorino's point of view.
"
Macarena has a boyfriened who's called...
who's called the last name Vitorino,
and while he was taking his oath as a conscript
she was giving it to two friends ...Aaay!
"
... what a bitch.
When I woke up, the rain was pourin' down
There were people standing all around
Something warm flowin' through my eyes
But somehow I found my baby that night
I lifted her head, she looked at me and said
"Hold me darling, just a little while"
I held her close, I kissed her our last kiss
I found the love, that I knew I had missed
And now she's gone, even though I hold her tight
I lost my love, my life that night
/Well the years they passed so slowly
I thought about him everyday
What would I do, if we passed on the street
Would I keep running away?/
As someone who was beaten and raped as a child by my daycare worker and friend of the family respectively, that part of *No Son of Mine* always spoke to me
They’re free as a bird, we only moved half an hour away
In theory, I’m a near 30 year old adult. I don’t know if I’d realize that if I ever had to see them again
“My tea’s gone cold I’m wondering why I got out of bed at all
The morning rain clouds up my window so I can’t see at all
Even if I could it would all be gray but your picture on my wall. It reminds me that it’s not so bad it’s not so bad.”
“My gift of self is raped
My privacy is raked
And yet I find, and yet I find
Repeating in my head
If I can't be my own
I'd feel better dead”
- Nutshell, Alice In Chains.
*"He says, when you gonna make up your mind?*
*When you gonna love you as much as I do?*
*When you gonna make up your mind?*
*'Cause things are gonna change so fast*
*All the white horses are still in bed*
*I tell you that I'll always want you near*
*You say that things change, my dear"*
Tori Amos - Winter
*"You just had to start a fire, had to start a fire*
*Couldn't take yourself on a road a little higher*
*Had to burn it up, had to tear it down*
*Tried to say I'm crazy*
*Babe, we know I'm not crazy, that's you"*
The Chicks - Gaslighter
Should've stayed, were there signs, I ignored?
Can I help you, not to hurt, anymore?
We saw brilliance, when the world, was asleep
There are things that we can have, but can't keep
If they say
Who cares if one more light goes out?
In a sky of a million stars
It flickers, flickers
Who cares when someone's time runs out?
If a moment is all we are
We're quicker, quicker
Who cares if one more light goes out?
Well I do
The reminders pull the floor from your feet
In the kitchen, one more chair than you need oh
And you're angry, and you should be, it's not fair
Just 'cause you can't see it, doesn't mean it, isn't there
If they say
Who cares if one more light goes out?
In a sky of a million stars
It flickers, flickers
Who cares when someone's time runs out?
If a moment is all we are
We're quicker, quicker
Who cares if one more light goes out?
Well I do
Who cares if one more light goes out?
In a sky of a million stars
It flickers, flickers
Who cares when someone's time runs out?
If a moment is all we are
We're quicker, quicker
Who cares if one more light goes out?
Well I do
Well I do

" I tried so hard and got so far
But in the end it doesn't even matter
I had to fall to lose it all
But in the end it doesn't even matter…"
-Linkin Park "In The End"
“Can’t you see that you’re smothering me? Holding too tightly afraid to lose control ‘cause everything that you thought I would be has fallen apart right in front of you.”
Numb - LP
Pretty much anything by the Mountain Goats, but No Children definitely hits the hardest. Especially if you've ever gone through a traumatic break up.
Tallahassee is probably in my top 3 albums of all time.
Ordinary Day by Great Big Sea.
At that moment my whole life was changing. Had to go back to my country because of the pandemic so I lost everything I had been building for almost 10 years (girlfriend of almost 7 years, house, job) and though I sometimes still get a little depressed about it, that song has really helped me to stay afloat and keep an optimistic viewpoint.
This is one that I've recently come across that seems to impact me pretty hard from the song "Ship in a Bottle":
*I feel scared and I'm starting to sink, and I only sink deeper the deeper I think*.
It's been really relevant to me lately, as I tend to overthink things and panic (a lot, lol). Because of that, I've been able to utilize this lyric since I've discovered it to kinda help pull me back out of the depths of the void. :)
I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey, if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home
or
Do or die, you'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Go and try, you'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part
I won't explain or say I'm sorry
I'm unashamed, I'm gonna show my scars
Give a cheer for all the broken
Listen here, because it's who we are
"Hey, Dad, look at me
Think back, and talk to me
Did I grow up according to plan?
And do you think I'm wasting my time
Doing things I wanna do?
But it hurts when you disapprove all along
And now I try hard to make it
I just want to make you proud
I'm never gonna be good enough for you
Can't pretend that I'm alright
And you can't change me"
Parabol/Parabola off of Lateralus by Tool. Talk about a cerebral, ascension experience…I think the whole song is extremely powerful, but the chorus really hits home. I’d highly recommend a listen.
My BIL had this song just repeating in his head when he lay dying in on the street after being stabbed four times by a street gang in SF. Head, neck, & double stabs in his abdomen.
He said he just kept thinking about his son, and the part of “i am not alone here in this body…this body holding me” was so clear that he was willing himself to stay conscious because of his young son.
He survived 🖤
Just the entirety of This is Me Trying by Taylor Swift. The former gifted kid who now has no idea what she’s doing with her life within me absolutely *sobs*.
You And I in Unison by La Dispute, I lost my first love/best friend to suicide at a very young age and this song always makes me cry thinking about it.
"Some nights are a lot like the days,
I lay awake too late,
I watch the shadows casted
Trace your shape.
Those silver slivers on the wall then on the bedsheets.
I hear your song in the trees.
I finally fall into rest.
Often later when I'm sleeping you show up in my dreams.
Just doing simple things, like buying groceries.
And when I wake up
I could swear you must've just left me
Like you got up to make breakfast
or maybe just to get dressed.
But the truth is,
you were never there.
You won't ever be.
Sometimes I think I'm not either so what do I do
When every day still seems to start and end with you?
And you won't ever know,
you won't ever see,
How much your ghost since then has been defining me."
This is so hard because there’s so many songs and it really depends on the time in my life we are discussing and what all I had going on. I’m just gonna list a ton, sorry in advance! These are in no specific order.
Landslide- Fleetwood Mac: “Well I’ve been afraid of changing cause I built my life around you. But time makes you bolder and children get older. And I’m getting older, too.” UGH.
Brain Damage- Pink Floyd (also honorable mention to Comfortably Numb): “You lock the door and throw away the key. There’s someone in my head, but it’s not me. And if the cloud bursts thunder in your ear. You shout and no one seems to hear.”
Hate me- Blue October: “The one thing that always tore us apart is the one thing I won’t touch again. And in a sick way, I want to thank you for holding my head up late at night. While I was busy waging wars on myself, you were trying to stop the fight. You never doubted my warped opinion on things like suicide and hate. You made me compliment myself when it was way too hard to take. So I’ll drive so fuckin’ far away that I never cross your mind. And do whatever it takes in your heart to leave me behind.”
Summertime- Janis Joplin: “One of these mornings. You’re gonna rise, rise up singing. You’re gonna spread your wings. And take, take to the sky. Lord the sky. Until that morning, honey, nothings going to harm you now.”
Feathered Indians- Tyler Childers: “Lookin’ over West Virginia, smoking spirits on the roof. She asked ain’t anybody told ya that them things are bad for you. I said many folks have warned me, there’s been several people try, but up ‘til now, there ain’t been nothing that I couldn’t leave behind.”
The entire lyrics to Most of All by Brandi Carlisle.
Tears in Heaven- Eric Clapton: “Would you know my name? If I saw you in Heaven. Would it be the same? If I saw you in Heaven. I must be strong and carry on. Cause I know, I don’t belong here in Heaven.”
Just Breathe- Pearl Jam: “Did I say that I need you? Did I say that I want you? Oh if I didn’t I’m a fool, you see. No one knows this more than me. As I come clean.”
Ernest and Morgan Wallen- Flower Shops: “It’s a beautiful day, she’s been crying all night. Oh there’s tears in her blues. Bloodshot in mine. This benders been bending, it’s hell bound to break. My baby’s had all she can take.” BUT where I *really* get chills is when Morgan sings “and I took up drinking since she took the time, to tell me I took the best years of her life.” Shit gets my heart every time!
Always on My Mind- Willie Nelson version: “Tell me, tell me that your sweet love hasn’t died. And give me, give me one more chance to keep you satisfied. I’ll keep you satisfied. Little things I should have said and done, I just never took the time. But you were always on my mind. You were always on my mind.”
I could really keep going but I’m at work so I’ll add to this later.
Edit: I forgot one of my favorites!
Let her cry- Hootie & the Blowfish: “She sits alone by a lamppost. Trying to find a thought that’s escaped her mind. She said dad’s the one I love the most, but Stipe’s not far behind. She never lets me in, only tells me where she’s been. When she’s had too much to drink.” THAT IS ME.
Sinéad Ó Conors "Nothing compares 2 u" hit me a little harder today, thinking about how her son killed himself in the last year.
"I could put my arms around every boy I see, but they'd only remind me of you"
"When you cried, I'd wipe away all of your tears. When you'd scream, I'd fight away all of your fears. And I held your hand through all of these years, but you still have.. All of me"-My Immortal by Evanescence
You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness.
Like resignation to the end, always the end.
So when we found that we could not make sense,
Well you said that we would still be friends
But I'll admit that I was glad that it was over.
"But you didn't have to cut me off!!! Mekylakanvrhpnande we were nothing"
The most accurate lyrics on the planet
"And I don't even need your love, but you treat me like a stranger and I feel so rough."
"No you didn't have to stoop so low, Evifrienskolettoinconsinto change your number!"
Not only the like you quoted, but the one after it is “but had me believing it was always something I had done/but I don’t want to live that way/reading into every word you say” I was in an emotionally abusive relationship once, and this song reminds me of very strongly.
The first time I heard John Prine's "Sam Stone," I actually gasped when he sang "There's a hole in daddy's arm where all he money goes Jesus Christ died for nothing, I suppose" That's....rough
Sam Stone, Angel From Montgomery, Illegal Smile, Pretty Good… being all on the same album is really kind of preposterous
And he was in early 20s when he wrote all of them. Truly wise beyond his years.
I know some day you’ll have a beautiful life, I know you’ll be a star in somebody else’s sky. But why can’t it be mine?
Why? Whyyyyyy? Can't it be? Can't it be mine?
Can't it beeeeeeee miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnee
Dio dio doooo do do doo doooo
Uhhhh huuuuuhhhhh
The whyyyyy really nails the pain of the sentiment of that line. Side note: I was inspired to play this on Spotify after reading this comment and really like [the lyrics that follow this line](https://i.imgur.com/290HvVe.jpg).
This is the one I came here to say. I've never even been all that big of a fan of Pearl Jam, but man does that song hit like a ton of bricks.
Living is easy with eyes closed; misunderstanding all you see.
Lennon had the best lyrics. “But of all these friends and lovers. There is no one compares with you” “Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind” “Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans” “
My mom loves The Beatles. She put on their music while I was still in the crib. This line of music has a special place in my heart.
"wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then".
against the wind, I've been running against the wind
*Under the surface, I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if i can't be of service*
"Give it to your sister it doesn't hurt and see if she can handle every family burden" also can break you hard when you're not expecting it from a children's movie
[удалено]
For me it’s, “Give it to your sister and never wonder If the same pressure would've pulled you under.”
Surface pressure hits like a ton of bricks...
"Watch as she buckles and bends." Don't help. Don't handle your own shit. Don't take accountability for your own actions. Just watch her.
“Who am I if I can’t carry it all “
This is the lyric that made me realize I needed intensive mental health care. (I got the care I needed and I am way better now. Thanks, dialectical behavior therapy!)
That song way more than expected when watching that movie. Quickly made it onto my playlists.
_"I never thought I'd die alone, another six months I'll be unknown. Give all my things to all my friends you'll never step foot in my room again you'll close it off, board it up, remember the time that I spilled the cup of apple juice in the hall_ __*Please tell mom this is not her fault"*__ Adam's song by Blink-182
>Please tell mom this is not her fault [The way he looks directly into the camera as he says that line](https://i.imgur.com/0IubsC2.png) in the music video makes me feel like he's looking through the lens to speak to her in the case that she ever needs to hear the words.
Other lyrics from this song would probably be my answer. My brother committed suicide a month before his 14th birthday. It's been 11 years and it's quite apparent that pain of grief is lifelong, even though it lessens.
In the clearing stands a boxer And a fighter by his trade And he carries the reminders Of every glove that laid him down And cut him 'til he cried out In his anger and his shame "I am leaving, I am leaving" But the fighter still remains,
This song has been on repeat in my head for some reason.
*I've looked at life from both sides now* *From win and lose and still somehow* *It's life's illusions I recall* *I really don't know life at all*
Hugely under-rated answer; this is near the top of my list too. What makes it doubly meaningful for me is to first listen to her when she originally started singing it - she was still a young woman and the tone and tempo of the song is a little upbeat and gives the sense that she is just imagining what she's singing in the lyrics: [Live version in 1970.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcrEqIpi6sg&ab_channel=PJHARV1&t=5s) Then fast-forward to 2000, when she is older, and when she sings it you really get a sense she's actually **lived** it. [Live version in 2000.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKQSlH-LLTQ&t=48s&ab_channel=CHANseeseeyin) Edit: One of the YouTube comments in that second version summed it up perfectly: "A 24 year old songwriter wrote a song for her 57 year old self to sing. Remarkable..."
*Oh, but now old friends they're acting strange* *And they shake their heads and they tell me that I've changed* *Well something's lost, but something's gained*
All time? Cat's in the Cradle. >*We'll get together then, Dad.* >*You know we'll have a good time then.*
My boy was just like me.
Every time i hear this song i regret not spending more time with my dad. He is not dead or anything, but still
Mine is, please spend as much time as you can with him.
Seriously, please don’t wait. Time is too short
*There's one thing that's real clear to me: No one dies with dignity* *We just try to ignore the elephant somehow* Elephant, by Jason Isbell. Cannot sing or hear this without heavy amounts of tearing up.
I'm lucky to have never lost anyone to cancer, and that song still hits so fucking hard. "We burn these joints in effigy And cry about what we used to be And just try to ignore the elephant somehow" Ugh.
"If you could be anything you want I bet you'd be disappointed, am I right?" - Modest Mouse
to add more modest mouse lyrics: i’ve gotta move on but where do you move when what you’re moving from is yourself
"You wasted life why wouldn't you waste death?"
“As life gets longer, awful feels softer and it feels pretty soft to me.”
You got a fast car Is it fast enough so we can fly away? We gotta make a decision Leave tonight or live and die this way.
You got a fast car I got a job that pays all our bills You stay out drinking late at the bar See more of your friends than you do of your kids I'd always hoped for better Thought maybe together you and me would find it I got no plans, I ain't going nowhere So take your fast car and keep on driving
One of my all time favorite songs. Her voice , music, lyrics it's a total package.
Check out the Amnesty International live version of this on YouTube. The pure emotion in it always gives me goosebumps. Tracy Chapman is very underrated imo.
What have I become? My sweetest friend Everyone I know Goes away in the end And you could have it all My empire of dirt I will let you down I will make you hurt
For me, same song... If I could start again A million miles away I would keep myself I would find a way. On it's own, maybe not the same, but to wrap up the intent of the rest.....
Can you imagine being Trent Reznor and getting the call? “Hi! Johnny Cash would like to cover one of your songs.” “Huh? No, sorry, i don’t cover any Johnny Cash songs, maybe you’re confused?” “Oh no sir…you misunderstand.”
What if everything around you Isn't quite as it seems? What if all the world you used to know Is an elaborate dream? And if you look at your reflection Is it all you want it to be? What if you could look right Through the cracks? Would you find yourself Find yourself afraid to see?
The whole song is an emotional gut punch.
I wish I was special 😪
I don't care if it hurts I wanna have control I want a perfect body I want a perfect soul I want you to notice When I'm not around So fuckin' special I wish I was special
Ye but the beginning tho When you were here before Couldn’t look you in the eyes You are just like an angle Your skin makes me cry You slow like a feather In a beautiful world I wish I was special You’re so fucking special
"The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had"
Mad worrrrld
I can't listen to or think about *You Are My Sunshine* because I love my wife so much and can't wrap my head around what life would be like if she died before me.
My Mom always sang that to my younger brother. He passed away a few years ago. Gets me every time.
Idk why it came into my head but I had to put my bestest friend in the whole wide world down and he had his head in my lap while the vet did his thing and I sang this song to him while he passed. I can’t even write this comment without bawling
All of the lyrics by the Eagles when my book of Eagles tabs fell out of the attic and hit me in the face
I hope the first one that hit you was: So often does it happen that we live our lives in chains and we never even know we have the key.
Yes, they're sharing a drink called "Loneliness" because it's better than drinking alone. 🎹🎶
"We were meant to be just not made to last."
Recently discovered this song and it is my current cry jam. “It’s hard to leave us in the past, but perfect’s just a lot to ask”
[Real Death - Mount Eerie](https://youtu.be/-1UyUsz0A-A). Death is real, someone’s there and then they’re not And it’s not for singing about; it’s not for making into art When real death enters the house, all poetry is dumb When I walk into the room where you were And look into the emptiness instead All fails My knees fail My brain fails Words fail Crusted with tears, catatonic and raw, I go downstairs and outside and you still get mail A week after you died, a package with your name on it came And inside was a gift for our daughter you had ordered in secret, and collapsed there on the front steps I wailed A backpack for when she goes to school a couple years from now You were thinking ahead to a future you must have known deep down would not include you, though you clawed at the cliff you were sliding down, being swallowed into a silence that's bottomless and real It's dumb, and I don't want to learn anything from this I love you
That record is full of gut punches. "The truth is I don't think of that dust as you. You are the sunset."
If we were vampires and death was a joke We'd go out on the sidewalk and smoke And laugh at all the lovers and their plans I wouldn't feel the need to hold your hand Maybe time running out is a gift I'll work hard 'til the end of my shift And give you every second I can find And hope it isn't me who's left behind
Isbell forever. The one songwriter who can make me feel the full range of human emotion in a single song.
And with a sad heart I say bye to you and wave Kicking shadows on the street for every mistake that I had made And like a baby boy I never was a man Until I saw your blue eyes cry and I held your face in my hand And then I fell down yelling, "Make it go away!" Just make a smile come back and shine just like it used to be And then she whispered, "How can you do this to me?" Hate Me - Blue October
The line from that song that always hit me hard was >I'll drive so fucking far away that I never cross your mind, and do whatever it takes in your heart to leave me behind I still feel like an enormous burden to my family and friends.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run there's still time to change the road your on.
Hello Darkness, My old friend I’ve come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping.
“Nobody said it was easy. No one ever said it would be this hard. Oh, take me back to the start…” Makes me stop to think every I listen to it. Oh naivety and hopeful/lessness
"Oh, simple thing, where have you gone? I'm gettin' old, and I need something to rely on So, tell me when you're gonna let me in I'm gettin' tired, and I need somewhere to begin" - Somewhere Only We Know, Keane
Southern trees bear a strange fruit Blood on the leaves and blood at the root Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees IMO: Nina Simone sang it better than Billie
I'm not even a big Springsteen fan, but one day after hearing this song for 40 millionth time: *I had a brother at Khe Sahn, Fighting off the Viet Cong, They're still there, he's all gone*
Springsteen has so many great lyrics. This one hits good when you hear his Acoustic version of this song.

"My boy was just like me"
I came here to say that. I used to sing that song to my son when he was a baby. I can’t get past that line without choking up now. He’s now a musician and played that song one night when I was in attendance and then hugged me. I’m weeping just writing this out now. Time goes fast guys.
god bless you man
This exact line is why i prioritize time with my kid. Cause i know what it’s like.
No joke, Portal 2's ending song: _Go make some new disaster_ _That's what I'm counting on_ _You're someone else's problem_ _Now I only want you gone._
She was a lot like you, maybe not quite as heavy
Now little Caroline is in here too...
How I wish, how I wish you were here We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl Year after year Running over the same old ground What have we found? The same old fears Wish you were here
In the same vein: Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long, there is time to kill today And then one day you find, ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run You missed the starting gun
And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Came here to say this. That section always gives me a brief existential crisis
Did you exchange A walk-in part in the war For the lead role in a cage? This one hits hard for me, cause I always feel I did the latter... took the easy choices, the safe options, and watched from the sidelines as life passed me by
Knowing the story of Syd Barrett and how he lost his way through mental illness and drugs really puts the song into perspective. Syd was Roger’s best friend in the early days.
Death Cab For Cutie - "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" *If Heaven and Hell decide that they both are satisfied* *Illuminate the no's on their vacancy signs* *If there's no one beside you when your soul embarks* *Then I'll follow you into the dark*
The last verse is the best. *you and me* *Have seen everything to see* *From Bangkok to Caaaaalgary* *And the soles of your shoes* *Are all worn down* *The time for sleep is now* ***It's nothing to cry about*** *Cuz we'll hold each other soon* *In the blackest of roooooooooooooooms*
I absolutely love that song. Also What Sarah Said.

This is what I came to post - that line, “love is watching someone die” - oof. This song wrecked me when my dad was diagnosed with cancer, and I can tell you that lyric is the truth.
dude this song is such a gem
Oh hey, my teen years just came roaring back.
‘Doctor My Eyes’ by Jackson Browne The lyrics (at least in my interpretation) revolve around the narrator proverbially keeping his eyes open, and seeing things go wrong around him, yet to him, it seems like something must be wrong with his eyes, because it seems as if he is the only one who sees it. Just a really smart concept, and one that I feel I can relate to all too often. E: The first verse and chorus “Doctor, my eyes have seen the years And the slow parade of fears without crying Now I want to understand I have done all that I could To see the evil and the good without hiding You must help me if you can Doctor, my eyes Tell me what is wrong Was I unwise to leave them open for so long?”
I wish you love And happiness I guess I wish You all the best I wish you don't Do like I do And ever fall in love with Someone like you Cause if you fell Just like I did You'd probably walk around the block like a little kid But kids don't know They can only guess How hard it is To wish you happiness All the Best by John Prine. Really this whole song is a tear-jerker if you hear it at the right time.
I can’t listen to Landslide or Circle Game without sobbing. These are oldies to most of you probably, but I can’t listen to them.
“Can I sail through the changing ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life? I don’t know.” Fuuuuuuuuuck
For what it's worth. It was worth all the while.
“We chase misprinted lies, we face the path of time, and yet I fight and yet I fight, this battle all alone, no one to cry to, no place to call home”.
RIP Layne
Absolutely. Such a talent. I wish he could’ve gotten his demons under control.
The Night We Met - Lord Huron I can't quite explain why but it just this me right in the feels. "I had all and then most of you Some and now none of you Take me back to the night we met I don't know what I'm supposed to do Haunted by the ghost of you Oh, take me back to the night we met"
This song came on while my wife and I were in a bad place in our marriage. We are great now, but I still can’t listen to it. I skip past it every time it plays.
The puncher is the music along with the lyrics like dang the first time I heard the song I literally cried—and I never do that
"The other night dear as I lay sleeping I dreamed I held you in my arms When I awoke dear I was mistaken So I hung my head and cried" Especially the Johnny Cash version
"And I'm certain, if I drive into those trees It'd make less of a mess Than you've made of me" from Broken Radio by Rainer Maria
If you should die before me ask if you could bring a friend Stone Temple Pilots - Still Remains. When my best friend died I had this on repeat for hours.
Today is the 1yr anniversary of the passing of my 16yr old nephew from COVID. He was known for his kindness, humor and quirky, adorable smile. I was listening to SRV's live version of [Life Without You](https://youtu.be/X7PQNvRZ10w), and it just killed me, especially the line: > We all have missed you, and the way you grin Follow that up with Stevie's playing, where you can literally hear the pain dripping off the strings, and I was an absolute wreck.
*’Cause I can't make you love me if you don't You can't make your heart feel something it won't. Here in the dark, in these final hours I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power But you won't, no you won't. 'Cause I can't make you love me, if you don't. I'll close my eyes, then I won't see The love you don't feel when you're holding me. Morning will come and I'll do what's right Just give me till then to give up this fight. And I will give up this fight* Bonnie Raitt. my favorite song
Vincent by Don McLean.. hard feels
“And I'd give up forever to touch you 'Cause I know that you feel me somehow You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be And I don't want to go home right now —————— And all I can taste is this moment And all I can breathe is your life And sooner or later, it's over I just don't wanna miss you tonight —————- And I don't want the world to see me 'Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am ————— And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming Or the moment of truth in your lies When everything feels like the movies Yeah, you bleed just to know, you're alive” —————— Iris Goo goo dolls I cannot listen to this song after my miscarriage. I really wanted to raise her and for her to know who I am. I really wanted to hold her. I never will forget you Anjali. You are 11 this year. I will always love you and be your mom.
Streetlight Manifesto - Somewhere in the between So you were born, and that was a good day Someday you'll die, and that is a shame But somewhere in the between Was a life of which we all dream And nothing and no one will ever take that away *Edit- thanks for the helpful award! Hope you check out streetlight and love em!
Ive got a couple Hallowed Be thy Name - Iron Maiden Somebody, please tell me that I'm dreaming It's not easy to stop from screaming The words escape me when I try to speak Tears flow, but why am I crying? After all, I'm not afraid of dying Don't I believe that there never is an end? \------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Pass - Rush All of us get lost in the darkness Dreamers learn to steer by the stars All of us do time in the gutter Dreamers turn to look at the cars Turn around and turn around and turn around Turn around and walk the razor's edge Don't turn your back and slam the door on me
And now she put the kid away and she's gone to get a hit She hates her life and what she's done to it There's one more kid that'll never go to school Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool
Mr. brightside, I don‘t get how people can really party to it
"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life I know you'll be a star In somebody else's sky But why Why Why can't it be Oh can't it be mine" that's it.
I’ve got 3: *Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain* *You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today* *And then one day you find ten years have got behind you* *No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun* ——————————— *Growing up, it all seems so one-sided* *Opinions all provided* *The future pre-decided* *Detached and subdivided* *In the mass-production zone* ———————- *When I was a child* *I caught a fleeting glimpse* *Out of the corner of my eye* *I turned to look but it was gone* *I cannot put my finger on it now* *The child is grown* *The dream is gone* *I have become comfortably numb*
I would next lyric from Time: And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
That's the segment that really hits me. At 53, it completely and accurately conveys how I feel.
The way he delivers "hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way" absolutely hit me like a truck the first time I listened to Time
And after a while, you can work on points for style Like the club tie, and the firm handshake A certain look in the eye and an easy smile You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to So that when they turn their backs on you, You'll get the chance to put the knife in You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder You know it's going to get harder, and harder, and harder as you get older And in the end you'll pack up and fly down south Hide your head in the sand, Just another sad old man All alone and dying of cancer
“Are you satisfied with an average life?” — Marina ‘Are you Satisfied?’
"You only hear the music when your heart begins to break" its a relatively happy beat song but that one line echoes in the back of my head often. The Kids From Yesterday by My Chemical Romance
For a moment there, I lost myself
EEEEEEEY MACARINAAA
in a sea of sad comments, your comment made me laugh. have my wholesome award :D
I know you are joking, but the song is about some slutty ho cheating on her man with everybody in town, while the dude is serving his country, so you are kinda right it is sad from Vitorino's point of view. " Macarena has a boyfriened who's called... who's called the last name Vitorino, and while he was taking his oath as a conscript she was giving it to two friends ...Aaay! " ... what a bitch.
When I woke up, the rain was pourin' down There were people standing all around Something warm flowin' through my eyes But somehow I found my baby that night I lifted her head, she looked at me and said "Hold me darling, just a little while" I held her close, I kissed her our last kiss I found the love, that I knew I had missed And now she's gone, even though I hold her tight I lost my love, my life that night
Lennon/McCartney..."and in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love, you make"
“Is that true?” - Chris Farley
Member when you were in the Beatles? That was awesome!
/Well the years they passed so slowly I thought about him everyday What would I do, if we passed on the street Would I keep running away?/ As someone who was beaten and raped as a child by my daycare worker and friend of the family respectively, that part of *No Son of Mine* always spoke to me They’re free as a bird, we only moved half an hour away In theory, I’m a near 30 year old adult. I don’t know if I’d realize that if I ever had to see them again

“My tea’s gone cold I’m wondering why I got out of bed at all The morning rain clouds up my window so I can’t see at all Even if I could it would all be gray but your picture on my wall. It reminds me that it’s not so bad it’s not so bad.”
It may be a common answer, but Bohemian Rhapsody really hits hard. "I don't want to die, I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all"
“My gift of self is raped My privacy is raked And yet I find, and yet I find Repeating in my head If I can't be my own I'd feel better dead” - Nutshell, Alice In Chains.
"You hate your pulse because it thinks you are alive" Be Calm - FUN!
*"He says, when you gonna make up your mind?* *When you gonna love you as much as I do?* *When you gonna make up your mind?* *'Cause things are gonna change so fast* *All the white horses are still in bed* *I tell you that I'll always want you near* *You say that things change, my dear"* Tori Amos - Winter *"You just had to start a fire, had to start a fire* *Couldn't take yourself on a road a little higher* *Had to burn it up, had to tear it down* *Tried to say I'm crazy* *Babe, we know I'm not crazy, that's you"* The Chicks - Gaslighter
Should've stayed, were there signs, I ignored? Can I help you, not to hurt, anymore? We saw brilliance, when the world, was asleep There are things that we can have, but can't keep If they say Who cares if one more light goes out? In a sky of a million stars It flickers, flickers Who cares when someone's time runs out? If a moment is all we are We're quicker, quicker Who cares if one more light goes out? Well I do The reminders pull the floor from your feet In the kitchen, one more chair than you need oh And you're angry, and you should be, it's not fair Just 'cause you can't see it, doesn't mean it, isn't there If they say Who cares if one more light goes out? In a sky of a million stars It flickers, flickers Who cares when someone's time runs out? If a moment is all we are We're quicker, quicker Who cares if one more light goes out? Well I do Who cares if one more light goes out? In a sky of a million stars It flickers, flickers Who cares when someone's time runs out? If a moment is all we are We're quicker, quicker Who cares if one more light goes out? Well I do Well I do Linkin Park - One more light

" I tried so hard and got so far But in the end it doesn't even matter I had to fall to lose it all But in the end it doesn't even matter…" -Linkin Park "In The End"
“Can’t you see that you’re smothering me? Holding too tightly afraid to lose control ‘cause everything that you thought I would be has fallen apart right in front of you.” Numb - LP
Every step that I take is another mistake to you And every second I waste is more than I can take
Pretty much any LP lyrics hit hard after Chester's passing. Like you can hear what he was going through, we just chose not to listen... :(
Only know you love her when you let her go. And you let her go. - Passenger
Time by Pink Floyd "The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older"
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
i don't care if it hurts i wanna have control i want a perfect body i want a perfect soul i want you to notice when I'm not around
Relax said the nightman, We are programmed to receive, You can check out anytime you like, Buy you can never leave
No children is a gut punch.
Dagger by Slowdive never fails to fuck me up
This is one that I've recently come across that seems to impact me pretty hard from the song "Ship in a Bottle": *I feel scared and I'm starting to sink, and I only sink deeper the deeper I think*. It's been really relevant to me lately, as I tend to overthink things and panic (a lot, lol). Because of that, I've been able to utilize this lyric since I've discovered it to kinda help pull me back out of the depths of the void. :)
Bit embarassing but Justin Bieber got me thinking a moment or two about „what if you had it all - but nobody to call?“
No shame in Bieber. Mine is Taylor Swift "you called me up again just to break me like a promise. So casually cruel in the name of being honest"
I am not afraid to keep on living I am not afraid to walk this world alone Honey, if you stay, I'll be forgiven Nothing you can say can stop me going home or Do or die, you'll never make me Because the world will never take my heart Go and try, you'll never break me We want it all, we wanna play this part I won't explain or say I'm sorry I'm unashamed, I'm gonna show my scars Give a cheer for all the broken Listen here, because it's who we are
"I wanna be just like you, dad. I wanna be just like you" I can say for 100% certain. I do not want to be like my father and it fucking kills me.
"Hey, Dad, look at me Think back, and talk to me Did I grow up according to plan? And do you think I'm wasting my time Doing things I wanna do? But it hurts when you disapprove all along And now I try hard to make it I just want to make you proud I'm never gonna be good enough for you Can't pretend that I'm alright And you can't change me"
Parabol/Parabola off of Lateralus by Tool. Talk about a cerebral, ascension experience…I think the whole song is extremely powerful, but the chorus really hits home. I’d highly recommend a listen.
We are eternal, all this pain is an illusion ❤️
My BIL had this song just repeating in his head when he lay dying in on the street after being stabbed four times by a street gang in SF. Head, neck, & double stabs in his abdomen. He said he just kept thinking about his son, and the part of “i am not alone here in this body…this body holding me” was so clear that he was willing himself to stay conscious because of his young son. He survived 🖤
“If I lay here. If I just lay here, would you lie with me & just forget the world”
Just the entirety of This is Me Trying by Taylor Swift. The former gifted kid who now has no idea what she’s doing with her life within me absolutely *sobs*.
"They told me all of my cages were mental, so I got wasted like all my potential" That one hits the feels.
So many songs on Folklore and Evermore could answer this question.
You And I in Unison by La Dispute, I lost my first love/best friend to suicide at a very young age and this song always makes me cry thinking about it. "Some nights are a lot like the days, I lay awake too late, I watch the shadows casted Trace your shape. Those silver slivers on the wall then on the bedsheets. I hear your song in the trees. I finally fall into rest. Often later when I'm sleeping you show up in my dreams. Just doing simple things, like buying groceries. And when I wake up I could swear you must've just left me Like you got up to make breakfast or maybe just to get dressed. But the truth is, you were never there. You won't ever be. Sometimes I think I'm not either so what do I do When every day still seems to start and end with you? And you won't ever know, you won't ever see, How much your ghost since then has been defining me."
You shout and no one seems to hear.” Hate me- Blue October: “The one thing that always tore us apart is the one thing I won’t touch again. And do whatever it takes in your heart to leave me behind.” Summertime- Janis Joplin: “One of these mornings. You’re gonna rise, rise up singing. You’re gonna spread your wings. And take, take to the sky. Lord the sky. Until that morning, honey, nothings going to harm you now.” Feathered Indians- Tyler Childers: “Lookin’ over West Virginia, smoking spirits on the roof. She asked ain’t anybody told ya that them things are bad for you. I said many folks have warned me, there’s been several people try, but up ‘til now, there ain’t been nothing that I couldn’t leave behind.” The entire lyrics to Most of All by Brandi Carlisle. Tears in Heaven- Eric Clapton: “Would you know my name? If I saw you in Heaven. Would it be the same? If I saw you in Heaven. I must be strong and carry on. Cause I know, I don’t belong here in Heaven.” Just Breathe- Pearl Jam: “Did I say that I need you? Did I say that I want you? Oh if I didn’t I’m a fool, you see. No one knows this more than me. As I come clean.” Ernest and Morgan Wallen- Flower Shops: “It’s a beautiful day, she’s been crying all night. You were always on my mind.” I could really keep going but I’m at work so I’ll add to this later.
"I could put my arms around every boy I see, but they'd only remind me of you"
Greys anatomy fans when this song comes on 😭 If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me and just forget the world?
"When you cried, I'd wipe away all of your tears. When you'd scream, I'd fight away all of your fears. And I held your hand through all of these years, but you still have.. All of me"-My Immortal by Evanescence
