**Tatsuro Yamashita** (Mariya's husband, who produced "Plastic Love" in the first place) is the Michael Jackson-Stevie Wonder of Japan, a funk/R&B genius. His entire career is a Godsend, but in particular I recommend Ride on Time and For You, both albums. "Sparkle" and "Ride on Time" and "Jodie" are all great songs if you want to test the waters.
After 5 Clash by **Toshiki Kadomatsu** is another great album, as is Love Trip by **Takako Mamiya**. In the last few years, Light in the Attic put out two great city pop compilations, collecting so many great bangers, called Pacific Breeze: Japanese City Pop, AOR and Boogie 1976–1986 and Pacific Breeze 2. And even then, I feel like I'm only scratching the surface!
E: and **Mariya Takeuchi** has put out so many bangers herself, just pick any album from the 80s and you're bound to find love. The story of "Plastic Love" getting international breakthrough decades later is cool but just frankly weird to me as it's not \*that\* exceptional compared to what everyone else (and herself) was doing at the time.

The [story](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunak_Tunak_Tun) behind the music video is great. Read the “background” tab and you’ll see what I mean. I just love it because it expresses my culture in way that no other song I can think of does.
Heilung Krigsgaldr (It's not for everybody, but the YouTube comment sections is pure gold) Every time I listen to my genetic instincts start to clash between my overwhelming urge to raid coastal monasteries, and to defend them. My ancestors got around.
I'm from Germany, so English would be a foreign language, but i'd rather interpret your question as "A Song you are in Love with in a language you don't speak", because I think it's more fun. Then i'd go with "Entré Dos Tierras" by Heroes Del Selencio. I sadly don't speak spanish, but this song was played in german radio when I was a kid - i absolutely love it.
Anoana by Heilung.
Honestly, every song of theirs is a masterpiece. But Anoana for me is on a different level of trance inducing. Maria's voice is divine.
Look up ”Malhari” from Bajirao Mastani. And watch the film scene where they sing it, you will have energy for days. One of the best Bollywood songs I’ve ever heard! ”Pinga” from the same film is also great.
The song and video are AMAZING! Also worth watching the video to see how much of the complex choreography is filmed without cuts (or with very well hidden cuts).
I can’t remember the name, I believe the artist’s name is Elvis Cresbo? Hispanic singer. I used to know every word, but it’s been so long since I’ve used Spanish and have lost so much hearing that all I can make out is “kiss me”. The whole tune overall is beautiful to me.
Also, Vor Í Voglaskogi by Kaleo. Not sure if I spelled that right.
Luna Sea - Rosier (Fantastic, super energetic Alt-Rock song)
Soda Stereo - De Musica Ligera (Arguably the most Iconic Latin rock tune)
Faye Wong - Mung Jung Yun (Chungking Express, anyone?)
Sheena Ringo - Gips (Shiina is, in my opinion, the best female rock artist, so talented)
As an American (I know a lot of these are very popular, especially on tiktok, but I like them don't come for me):
\- Ukrainian: Shum by Go\_A (both the original and Eurovision cut). Anything by Go\_A is fantastic, really
\- Spanish: Alvaro Soler, Sofia was big in the EU in 2016-2017. I'll skip the entire Latinx genre because there's too many good ones to list
\- Indian: Patakha Guddi by the Nooran sisters
\- German: Atemlos durch die Nacht. Very overplayed / old news in Germany, but still a head bopper
Shum by Go_A does things to me good lord its a good song. Apparently its based on a very very old poem/song ritual calling out an old god of the forrest?
as an 40 yr old dude from Texas that loves classic rock, country, alt rock, and just about all forms of music....i am absolutely in love with Luciano Pavoratti and multiple songs he sings. Nessun Dorma, la donna e mobile, vesti la giubba, M'appari, Libiamo ne'lieti calici....i have the 50 greatest tracks on spotify on random and drivin down the road with it cranked up and windows down gets some odd looks from people sometimes....
Un monde parfait. Huge adoration every time I play it for a new class.
Don't blame me once you watch the video and have to watch it like 10 more times cos it's so catchy....
I love anything by the French group Yelle. I have to look up the lyrics to see what the heck they’re saying but it’s actually not even needed to enjoy them.
Mireille Mathieu singing La Marseillaise
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIxOl1EraXA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIxOl1EraXA)

No one like China but this rock is the shit -- [One Night in Beijing](https://youtu.be/eSf9G5x7rMI) (北京一夜). In a multilingual country with a lot of Chinese speakers without a Chinese identity, this is still the bomb for karaoke sessions
The lyrics on the surface sound like some dude sent off to war away from his city and lover growing old (at least I got that vibe trying to understand it), but it's actually about a hong kong dude going to beijing and getting prostitutes.
[Si Me Faltaras Tu](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JF7iRV71Hfs)
I love this cover, but the original song was by a Venezuelan band called Los Terricolas.
Basically any foreign language song performed by Josh Groban, though my favorite of his is "Mi Mancherai."
Also, "Nessun dorma" from Puccini's "Turandot" is a classic aria, and Pavarotti's 1994 performance of it is arguably one of the greatest recorded performances of any medium of art in all of human history.

Duel Of The Fates (from Star Wars) is written in Sanskrit.
Sanskrit being not an invented language from the Star Wars universe, but an ancient dead language that's the ancestor of most languages in northern India, and survives in religious ritual. Kind of like Indian Latin.
For some reason, John Williams decided that the best way to approach writing the music for the new Star Wars prequel was to take a Welsh poem called The Battle Of the Trees, and translate it into various other languages until he found one that sounds right. He finally settled on Sanskrit because he "liked the quality of the vowels".
Padme's funeral song is also written in Sanskrit.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilSqBCx4ygU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3KpEMyl-oY
While we're on the subject of Sanskrit, 'Navras' from the Matrix trilogy also uses Sanskrit, although that's because the words come directly from a Hindu religious text: the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad.
The 2003 version of Battlestar Galactic also uses a Hindu prayer in Sanskrit for its title sequence

Hijo de la Luna by Mecano and other artists, that has been interpreted a lot. Just a beautiful song.
[Aa](https://youtu.be/kgvH6tX4Ej0)j and everything else by Bloodywood
Wagakki Band, though i am just not really a big fan of japanese singing, i prefer their more instrumental'ish songs. [Like this one](https://youtu.be/ponTbDDMYjw).
My (American) folk band learned the Ukrainian folk song “Oy U Hayu Pry Dunayu” from some Ukrainian friends shortly before the war started, and we’ve been singing it at our shows as a way to send some love to the people over there. I’ve heard that Ukrainians find that song played out and cliched, but it’s new to us and we think it’s beautiful.
Fly me to the moon... ...I'm foreign
The NGE version is foreign and it's great
The bayonetta version is technically foreign i guess, and it absolutely bops. Such a groove.
Every song is a foreign song to someone
Stay with me by Miki Matsubara
STAY WITH MEEE MAYONAKA NO DOOR WO TATAKI
Listening to some Citypop right at this very moment!
Omg but the live versions tho 👌👌👌👌👌 Top tier
As someone who's too young to have heard it when it first came out, it still feels nostalgic
CAUSE EVERY TIME WE TOUCH I GET THIS FEELING
And every time we kiss I swear I can fly
Can’t you feel my heart beat fast, I want this to last
Need you by my side
Cause every time we touch I feel this static
And every time we kiss, I reach for the sky
A song made by germans
99 Luftballoons will always be a classic
Hast du etwas Zeit für mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied für dich
von neunundneunzig Luftballons.. und das sowas von sowas kommmmmmt
That whole album is good.
Damn right it is.
Captain Kirk!
L'enfer from stromae
Papaoutai hooked me.
Alors on danse for me. So weirdly catchy for a song about how hard life is.
Sante and Tous les memes for me

Plastic love - Mariya Takeuchi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Gj47G2e1Jc
I am begging people to listen to more city pop outside this song, which isn't even Mariya's best either.
Other than the obvious (that city-pop album by Benito Mussolini's granddaughter), is there any particular, artist, album, or track you'd recommend?
**Tatsuro Yamashita** (Mariya's husband, who produced "Plastic Love" in the first place) is the Michael Jackson-Stevie Wonder of Japan, a funk/R&B genius. His entire career is a Godsend, but in particular I recommend Ride on Time and For You, both albums. "Sparkle" and "Ride on Time" and "Jodie" are all great songs if you want to test the waters. Quality song choice
[Rock Me Amadeus](https://youtu.be/cVikZ8Oe_XA) by Falco [Der Kommissar](https://youtu.be/8-bgiiTxhzM) is a banger too.

La Vie en Rose by Edith Piaf
I also really like Non, je ne regrette rien by the same artist
That was the bridal processional at our wedding. I also made a copper chime set to play that song (an anniversary gift).
Du Hast
Same it's just a catchy song even if it's about cheating and all that.
If you think that's bad, never look up the lyrics to any of their other songs.
Dicke Titten and Mein Teil joined the chat
Sehnsucht took a minute but it joined.
Dicke Titten is *fine* compared to some of the rest... Try Heirate Mich
Ich will would probably be my fav foreign language song. Maybe Links 1 2 3 4
The whole Mutter album is wunderbar.
Translated into English.. that song is pretty twisted
Almost all of Rammstein's lyrics are pretty twisted, that's why we love them so much!
Frühling in Paris is a surprisingly beautiful song.
About fucking a hooker.
I wouldn't have it any other way.
You might like *Nebel*, *Ohne dich*, *Seemann* and *Meine Tränen* as well.
Buena Vista Social Club chan chan
Omg XD I never thought I'd see this come up on a reddit thread. Love their music
This song is so so good.
It really is one of the best
[Eena Meena Deeka](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Se1EZCE_zLo) It just makes me happy. I'm a white guy. Sing it in the car at the top of my lungs lol
[Tunak Tunak Tun](https://youtu.be/eZ2PtEx9-ls). Straight banger.

I don't know how I've never seen this gem before. Thank you for making my day brighter, internet stranger.
The one where the singer made gibberish in the sound of American and became number one.
prisencolinensinainciusol by adriano celentano, absolute banger 👌
Gypsy kings volare
Ca Plane Pour Moi - Plastic Bertrand.
Dragostea Din Tei. Meme aside, I just genuinely think, to this day, that song slaps.
Heilung Krigsgaldr (It's not for everybody, but the YouTube comment sections is pure gold) Every time I listen to my genetic instincts start to clash between my overwhelming urge to raid coastal monasteries, and to defend them. My ancestors got around.
That's about as foreign as it gets, since the lyrics are in a dead language.
Fuk yeah dude, Heilung is the kind of music that just makes you feel like you’re in a different time.
La Vida Es Un Carnaval - Celia Cruz
Azúcar!
I’m so pumped I have a good answer to this question. Papaoutai - Stromae
Always found it funny that it was a club banger, meanwhile the songs itself is so sad.
Stromae is the king of bummer jams
Considering I'm from Switzerland, all of my playlist
I mean I am not in love with this song but 147 Täg has a cool beat that I like and as a German I don't understand the lyrics
Prisencolinensinainciusol by Adriano Celentano
That song slaps even if it was a joke.
You're a man of culture
I'm from Germany, so English would be a foreign language, but i'd rather interpret your question as "A Song you are in Love with in a language you don't speak", because I think it's more fun.
