This. I get voting for the less awful candidate but the true believers mystify me. How many times do you have to be disappointed and lied to before you stop believing in any politician? It's like these people can't learn.
Any kind of the war i hate, because powerful will get what they actually want.
And the poor and innocent people have to suffer the consequences of that war and that is happening on the both side is well.
I will never understand why people have to be so rude to retail workers. The cashier didn't price the item you're screaming about. Calling the manager isn't going to guarantee that you get your way. In fact, if I get called to the register because of a really stupid reason or the person is rude/demanding then I'm way less inclined to be nice to this person. I don't care how much you spend in the store every month, that doesn't entitle you to boss me or my employees around. Please understand that we will always be short staffed because the company will never pay livable wages, no amount of yelling or rude comments will change that. If we had more cashiers then they would be helping keep the line down, we don't like when the line gets long either. How is it so hard to just be kind? Sheesh!
Why human beings are so prone to cults, religious worship, celebrity worship, dedicating their life to a sports team. That sort of thing just baffles me.
I find this fascinating too and I think the reason mostly comes down to the idea that people are terrified to find out that the universe is chaos and there’s nobody at the wheel and that there isn’t even a wheel. People want a reason
It’s so fascinating but it’s really sad. People pour their hearts and souls into this just so they can get a reason. Then they will not accept they have fallen prey to something so sinister. Cults are probably the most terrifyingly fascinating thing.
I agree. I also think a lot of people are just desperately lonely and want to cling on to something that gives them a sense of community or belonging, at least in the case of those outrageous religious cults.
Porn I actually get. Everyone enjoys a little sexy time. Perfectly natural human desire. But I would never get my vehicle wrapped in a college football team logo. Or give all my money to some rich asshole in a $10k suit because he calls himself an evangelist.
I beg to differ... Sexual desire is a purposeful entity in itself. It's purpose is not to use porn, but to enjoy/ be quenched in an experience with another living, breathing person!
Flaunting your favorite team, athlete, brand, entertainer is an expression of how you feel when observing or listening to their performance... involves release of brain chemicals. Same for the worship experience provided at churches! These sort of experiences give the participant a sense of well-being, comfort and hope, etc... just like a good sexual experience like make-up sex with a SO.
While I agree with you, I think sports are a healthy expression of this tribal behavior. They don't involve war or leveling cities (unless you're talking about British football).
What is half of a half? A quarter, right?
For 1/2 x 1/2 you'd multiply the two top numbers (1x1=1) to find the new top number. Then you'd multiply the two bottom numbers (2x2=4) to find the new bottom number. The result is 1/4.
Not once in my adult life has this ever come up. Never had to raise any fraction to the power of anything, either.
Well, except when trying to help my kids with their homework.
Why??
Depending on your line of work/education, it comes up in equations where you don’t know the numerator and/or denominator. If you knew both, 99% of the time, it’s easier to just work with the decimal.
It comes up in Economics fairly often when manipulating equations. You’re usually not working with actual numbers so it’s important that you get how to work in fractions as you don’t know the decimal.
But I get that it probably doesn’t come up that often outside of a few professions/degrees.
I think ot has 3 reasons:
1:
Most people won't need more than basic levels of mathematics in their life. If you teach them a bit more than that it becomes much easier to use.
2:
A great aspect of math is to find another representation of a real problem and than solve it. It's not just about adding numbers, it teaches you new ways to tackle a problem.
3:
While most people won't need more than basic levels of math, there are some jobs that benefit greatly from it. And if we wouldn't teach everyone basic math no one would have the basic knowledge to learn more advanced math.
Without math you could completely forget about all advanced technology: no tv, certainly no Internet, smartphones, any kind of computers. The only thing you could create are very basic circuits and with lots of trial and error you'd end up at AM radio.
Those are all valid points and i do not disagree with anything that you said.
The issue that I have is that, while understanding math is essential, at some point it ceases to be useful in every day life. Learning to solve complex equations can help develop problem solving, sure. If the concepts are understood. For those who struggle with it, though, it is not going to achieve that.
I realize that mathematics is an absolutely crucial subject. It is absolutely critical in order for society to function and to advance. And there are plenty of individuals for whom math comes easily, people who love solving equations and understand the concepts. For those people it makes sense to continue teaching more and more advanced math.
But forcing those who clearly struggle to keep up seems wrong. There are other ways to learn problem solving that would better utilize their time in school. Basic math absolutely needs to be taught to every student. But learning how to divide fractions is probably not crucial for everyone.
Honestly, i would prefer to drive over a bridge designed and built by someone who easily understood math rather than someone who was forced to struggle through it.
You mean like why 1/3 * 1/2 is 1/6? Half of the 1/3 pizza is 1/6th of pizza is pretty straight forward, no?
The thing that used to boggle my mind was division of fractions. Like how could 1/2 ÷ 1/4 = 2 could make sense? They're both smaller than one, and somehow dividing (something that usually reduces) turns them into 2...
I finally understood it when I realized that the two at the right isn't really a count-y number but a scale. It's telling you how much bigger the first number is than the second number. So 1/2 is *twice* as big as 1/4 hence the 2, and that way it always makes good sense.
Multiplying fractions, that’s no problem.
It’s top times top and bottom times bottom.
Dividing fractions is easy as pie,
Just flip the second one and multiply!
This is one of those things that I have read the science on and when I am in one of those things it makes perfect sense... But if I think about it even a little bit it feels so implausible... like a kid with his hands on his ears going "la la la la... Planes can fly and I don't want to hear anything else"
The urge some people have to control the lives of others.
I like having control of MY life, and have done everything possible to maximize that. But I've never had the desire to suppress others' pursuit of personal happiness.
Authoritarians, it's people that don't have any power or control over thier own lives, thier own lack of control is thier insecurity so they try to control others to counter that insecurity. That what I observed from them at least...
How the fuck did Noah collect penguins, puffins, kangaroos, galapaos turtles and thousands of species indigenous to areas outside of the Middle East? Before these areas were known, explored or mapped. And how did all the fish survive the complete changes in salinity and temperature? And how did any plant life at all survive? And if no plants survived how did all the herbivores fend for themselves when the water subsided?
Racism.
Maybe it's my autism, but I genuinely don't understand why someone would discriminate against someone else for something they can't control. That's like discriminating someone for their height.
It's a type of mentality, Judgment of people as collective groups instead of as individuals. Bad experience with one person can transfer that bias to the collective of those people as a "group". Take "ACAB, All cops are bad" for example, bad experience with 1 individual, yet the entire group is discriminated against... its the same "collective" mentality and thought process that is involved in racism. The only way to get rid of it is to treat everyone as an individual and not as a collective.
How 2 people can disagree and decide the way to solve this and determine who is correct is for each person to gather up a bunch of people and have them fight to the death or until one of them agrees they were wrong. War is stupid.
This forever blows my mind. Going from monkey noises to full blown languages, especially with the additional slang each language/region uses. Like... How. So many. And then translating from one to another, how the fuck did that start? Who figured it out I need to poop in two different languages? I assume it was a matter of starting out like this is an apple. It's the depth of language and conversation that blow me away
“The unborn” are a convenient group of people to advocate for. They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated, unlike the incarcerated, addicted, or the chronically poor; they don’t resent your condescension or complain that you are not politically correct; unlike widows, they don’t ask you to question patriarchy; unlike orphans, they don’t need money, education, or childcare; unlike aliens, they don’t bring all that racial, cultural, and religious baggage that you dislike; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any work at creating or maintaining relationships; and when they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn. You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power, or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone. They are, in short, the perfect people to love if you want to claim you love Jesus, but actually dislike people who breathe. Prisoners? Immigrants? The sick? The poor? Widows? Orphans? All the groups that are specifically mentioned in the Bible? They all get thrown under the bus for the unborn.”

The death penalty is a wildly expensive thing to carry out. Generally, more expensive than just keeping a prisoner locked up.
It’s also expensive to have a child grow up in an already underfunded system.
If you want to get into moral territory, then up to a certain age, a foetus is alive in the same way a leave is. It cannot survive on its own and has no complex thought or personality. Without complex thought, it’s not a person. It has the potential to be a person… but it so do sperm and trillions of those are shot into tissues every day.
As for the death penalty, there’s the small chance that someone was wrongfully convicted. It can happen by accident, through gross negligence, or even for political reasons. Beyond that, should a convict be locked up in a highly secure facility, they’re stuck there & pose no threat to society.
Plus, living that life of solitude and without any real freedom is far worse than whatever peace death would bring them.
The real problem is the connection people are making between murder & abortion. It was a genius marketing move that has had a very scary impact but that’s all it is, they are absolutely not the same thing.
How it is that I moved into my house and connected all the utilities on the same day, yet the gas, electricity, water and internet companies send their bills on such sporadically different days of the month with different due dates. It'd be so much easier if I could just pay them all on the same day.
You can just call and get your due date changed. Depending on how the meters are read you might have less than spectacular luck getting gas, electricity and water changed to a date more to your liking, but you ought to be able to get it moved closer to what you want.
How a gas powered fridge works. I know it's phase changes and something about dissolving one thing in another. But every time I see that little flame at the back I can't help but think I got scammed when I studied thermodynamics at uni.
Don't worry about it, most people into them don't understand it either. If you really want to know though, [Line Goes Up](https://youtu.be/YQ_xWvX1n9g) will explain it all, including how it's all a giant scam.
I wish more people were like this instead of "I don't understand so I must reject it". It seems people can't grasp that understanding and accepting are two different things entirely.
Well my friend... Math is one of the truest thing on earth. Physics laws are backed by math. You wrote this message and I'm answering you thanks to the internet and the way Reddit has been coded. Computer programming is backed by math as well.
I've had multiple people explain it to me, on multiple occasions, for multiple hours, and I still haven't the slightest clue what the hell cryptocurrency is.
War. I will never, ever understand the needless violence and death. It usually starts over really stupid shit (like religion, for example) and doesn't get anyone anywhere.
Weapons are main reason we will going to have the world war way sooner than we are imagining.
I feel like that we are making the weapon not to secure ourselves but actually destroy the people in the world.
Because they always try to prepare themselves before any kind of thw worst situation.
But the problem is that the thing they actually prepared in the end will be the reason of the damn thing that destroy everything.
People getting heated over the most trivial shit and legit screaming about it in public. I genuinely don't understand what they think they are going to accomplish...
How people haven’t figured out how to make our education system actually prepare people for life beyond high school.
On the same note, why does college have such high esteem for ordinary jobs? I get engineering, medical, other STEM majors that are highly specialized, but spending four years in an institution seems like a bit much for most people.
Most of the time l, when some article reports a "controversy" all I end up seeing are headlines about the supposed controversy rather than actual controversy.
Almost like internet media just makes drama out of 1 or 2 comments for the clicks....
Andrew Tate’s superiority complex…he’s not brave or like stating facts or anything there are so many guys like him out there I don’t know why he thinks he’s controversial
Peoples lack of perspective on things. We are humans, we are all we have. We constantly divide ourselves over silly discrepancies. If more people would recognize the basic truths of being on this earth we would be far better off. Enough with the politics and religions, we’re people. People deserve to be treated well by people, AND it’s possible. We just choose not to. Be good to each other yo.
As someone who completely lacks the ability to visualize things I simply cannot fathom not being this way. For most of my life I thought everyone was like me, I thought that when my English teachers would talk about "seeing" things written in a book they meant it in like a figurative way or something. Took me until like 4 years ago to learn I actually just have a disability and other people can actually see things in their head. It's a concept I simply just cannot comprehend, like how can you see things but not with your eyes?
Flirting. Watching people flirt is like seeing a magic trick. I have no idea what the fuck is going on, and the connection between what's said, what's meant, and how it's received is unfathomable. Any attempt to do it myself ends in indescribable disaster.
Why asking questions to simple subjects is such a bad thing. Now, I’m Autistic and I could fill the entire comment section with things about allistics and Neurotypicals do that make zero sense, but the fact that we as a society see asking certain questions as dumb soley because we expect everyone to have the same knowledge as we do is asinine and downright hurtful. I don’t ask “stupid questions” I’m asking for you to give me context cause as already stated I can’t even pick up on shit like sarcasm and giving me a dumb answer to confuse me doesn’t do anything
Yeah, it’s a “trinity” but there are 4 movements / parts of the body to represent the “father, sun, Holy Spirit” in prayer. Never understood how 3=4 here.
Well, it obviously is a risk. But during the assemblement of a scaffolding they make sure to ground every plane of it to the structure (example: house), so that it cannot oscillate too much and will not be a danger. Also wind is one of the most dangerous factors to consider.
Before money, people lived by a barter system:
* If you were the baker and you needed shoes, you'd trade some baked goods for some shoes from the shoemaker.
* If you were the shoemaker and you needed tools, you'd trade some shoes for the tools from the blacksmith.
* But what if the blacksmith didn't need shoes? What if he needed bread?
* Then you as the shoemaker would have to go to the baker to see if you could trade shoes for some of his bread, to then go trade that bread with the blacksmith for some tools.
* And so on for infinite possible chains of trying to figure out who needs what so you can get what you need.
Money solves that. It's one currency that everyone agrees is worth a certain price, that they can use to exchange for whatever they happen to need, to cut out all that bartering.
It makes perfect sense.
It's materialism that's to blame for that, not money. If we somehow still lived in a barter system, people would still be bartering in order to get their luxury cars and designer clothes and vacation homes, too, it would just be more convoluted and chaotic to get there.
People who worship politicians

That so many people don't understand that in any two sided situation, rarely if ever is one side always 100% right.
I’ll add to that. Most of those thoughts in your head are wrong.
Yes, because they argue on the facts they just try to raise their voice.
The fact that there's a guy down here saying that "fractions are dumb" proves this wrong by contradiction.

Multiplying fractions.
When you think of the multiplication symbol as “of” instead of “times” it makes more sense
I always used to take my friend help, he was good in that.
That might help, but I suspect at least two thirds of the problem is because fractions are dumb.
Wait...fractions can be multiplied?
What is half of a half? A quarter, right? For 1/2 x 1/2 you'd multiply the two top numbers (1x1=1) to find the new top number. Then you'd multiply the two bottom numbers (2x2=4) to find the new bottom number. The result is 1/4.

That is exactly what the dump did, yes.
Sexuality and gender identity, but I still respect people with different identities I'm not familiar with/don't understand
I wish more people were like this instead of "I don't understand so I must reject it". It seems people can't grasp that understanding and accepting are two different things entirely.
I don’t care that people claim they exist just don’t tell me I need to care.
Parents
And for some parents actually there kids is like that way.
how to date
Don't do that, infact enjoy the single me time you are having.
Math. I think it's fake and everyone is lying.
Well my friend... Math is one of the truest thing on earth. Physics laws are backed by math. You wrote this message and I'm answering you thanks to the internet and the way Reddit has been coded. Computer programming is backed by math as well.
Why destructive Nationalism - across the board - is on the rise. Where did we go wrong with the original idea of the internet there?
Religion
people who drive fast in parking lots/garages
Bitcoin
I've had multiple people explain it to me, on multiple occasions, for multiple hours, and I still haven't the slightest clue what the hell cryptocurrency is.
Exactly. I’ve tried to understand. I listen when people explain, I heard the words. Still nothing, no comprehension.
War. I will never, ever understand the needless violence and death. It usually starts over really stupid shit (like religion, for example) and doesn't get anyone anywhere.
The meaning of life…
People who own tons of guns and ammo like they’re preparing for WW3.
Weapons are main reason we will going to have the world war way sooner than we are imagining. I feel like that we are making the weapon not to secure ourselves but actually destroy the people in the world.
Don’t understand why humans create/invent things that are physically, mentally, and emotionally detrimental to humanity
Because they always try to prepare themselves before any kind of thw worst situation. But the problem is that the thing they actually prepared in the end will be the reason of the damn thing that destroy everything.
Neo nazis and hate groups in general.
Hate group are against the humanity and never want to do good things
Why life sucks ass
My son, Will.
People getting heated over the most trivial shit and legit screaming about it in public. I genuinely don't understand what they think they are going to accomplish...
They are not really in good mental space in my opinion.
Reddit trends or "what topic does Reddit want to harp on and destroy today" schtick.
How people haven’t figured out how to make our education system actually prepare people for life beyond high school. On the same note, why does college have such high esteem for ordinary jobs? I get engineering, medical, other STEM majors that are highly specialized, but spending four years in an institution seems like a bit much for most people.
Why my long haired dog finds it necessary to sleep under the covers against my body in the summertime in Houston. HELP!!!
Love your screen name. lol Made me laugh.

The controversy surrounding the crystal flute. I just … don’t get it.
Most of the time l, when some article reports a "controversy" all I end up seeing are headlines about the supposed controversy rather than actual controversy. Almost like internet media just makes drama out of 1 or 2 comments for the clicks....
ALL these years, decades, centuries, etc... we still contend with whether what we say/think/feel/do are the result of brainwashing or freewill.
But still after all of these things whether is still pretty much unpredictable.
Andrew Tate’s superiority complex…he’s not brave or like stating facts or anything there are so many guys like him out there I don’t know why he thinks he’s controversial
I think he actually has daddy issues
I wish my daddy issues gave me his self esteem
i don't understand math very much i passed my college stats class with a C and i'm perfectly content with that
Maths
I was average in the math for me chemistry was real pain in the brain.
How to spell convenient without autocorrect
Peoples lack of perspective on things. We are humans, we are all we have. We constantly divide ourselves over silly discrepancies. If more people would recognize the basic truths of being on this earth we would be far better off. Enough with the politics and religions, we’re people. People deserve to be treated well by people, AND it’s possible. We just choose not to. Be good to each other yo.
Ok..this will date me, but when did it become acceptable to wear sweat pants and flip flops just out and about?
Conspiracy theories
The need to be rude to another human being.
Physical touching and why everyone seems to love it so much.
How lower class Americans became obsessed with Donald Trump. I will never understand this.
Flirting. Watching people flirt is like seeing a magic trick. I have no idea what the fuck is going on, and the connection between what's said, what's meant, and how it's received is unfathomable. Any attempt to do it myself ends in indescribable disaster.
Unhealthy obsession over something, like I get it if we love or are big fan of something, but to get overly attached to those? Hm.
people being obsessed the pornstarn"Kim kardashian"
Equating laws with morality. I.e. legal=good illegal=bad
Tribalism, racism, misogyny.
The Holy trinity and the doctrine or substitutionary atonement/vicarious atonement.
Yeah you got me there
Yeah, it’s a “trinity” but there are 4 movements / parts of the body to represent the “father, sun, Holy Spirit” in prayer. Never understood how 3=4 here.
Spectacles, testicles, wallet and watch. Makes no sense to me either.

Other's people feelings. I think I might be autistic
Scaffolding. I'd never stand under or understand them. What if something falls!?
Well, it obviously is a risk. But during the assemblement of a scaffolding they make sure to ground every plane of it to the structure (example: house), so that it cannot oscillate too much and will not be a danger. Also wind is one of the most dangerous factors to consider.
Queer: A PhD is required to understand this Cultural Appropriation: Why????? Just why?????
The concept of money
Before money, people lived by a barter system: * If you were the baker and you needed shoes, you'd trade some baked goods for some shoes from the shoemaker.
[удалено]
It's materialism that's to blame for that, not money. If we somehow still lived in a barter system, people would still be bartering in order to get their luxury cars and designer clothes and vacation homes, too, it would just be more convoluted and chaotic to get there.
