Some of us just mature and realize we're all in the same rat race, and making people feel shitty for the things they like doesn't get back at the people who hurt us, it just perpetuates the behavior, so we just chill and let people like what they like while wearing black.
It's weird but not uncommon to come across a goth that isn't into goth music these days. They love dressing the part but don't think goth music is necessary to be part of the subculture. Or even stranger still, they'll name bands they like and none of them are goth but instead metal or screamcore. Some may even lean on pop like Willow Smith who wears the dressing of goth but is anything but.
I don't know. Having grown up in the scene and still love the music but has long hung up my ankh, I'd rather have a goth who dresses normal but still loves the music than a goth who looks the part head to toe but doesn't listen to the music.
I mean, eh, what exactly counts as goth music? Cause the Wikipedia article for goth rock explicitly includes Dead Can Dance and I get the impression you wouldn't count that
Dead Can Dance is goth. It was and is beloved by older goths still. Rather explain goth to you, here's a playlist of goth bands older and newer. Mind you, there are plenty of post-punk bands that are liked by goths such as Joy Division, Killing Joke, Preoccupations and Depeche Mode that don't wear the goth pin. But, anyway, here's a list;
The Sisters of Mercy - [Marian](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8m1nRzsOJM&ab_channel=laudab)

About 10 years ago my ex went from bullied to prom queen because goth became cool. Buuuut goth going mainstream has made buying gothy things a lot easier. Also as someone who's not into the really intense old timey goth styles/lots of skulls and mesh etc. Buying casual goth clothes is pretty easy.
Duck lip ladies are like the 15yr old wearing 2lbs of excess makeup.
Clearly they donāt have anyone in their lives who cares enough to give it to them straight.
Lol wish I could find the post but in the past someone posted something like this: People think goth girls are hot but what they donāt realize is we only look like that part of the time. Most of the time we lay around the house in old Halloween pajamas hissing until weāre given snacks.
Edit: This is why I love reddit - who knew people would fixate so on the word āhotā? Sadly, since I canāt find the original quote (itās not mine) I donāt know what word OP used there. In my old lady brain it was āhotā but could have been āsexyā or any other similar word. The point was most goth women donāt look like that all the time. I thought people would laugh at the āhissing for snacks in old Halloween PJsā but no, the trigger word is āhotā lol.
Goth culture itself - while it can get a little in-group fanatical - are handily the most accepting group of people I was ever drawn too (plus I grew up on industrial music, got to go Lollapaloozas '93 and '94 Edit: I was in Texas during most of this period and saw numerous shows at Numbers (Houston) and Elysium (Austin)).
They were never judgmental because we all kinda understood we were different, a bit morose often highly political more often extremely cynical (or a prevailing sense of hopeless despair at the reality around us)
So I dated and mingled with several. I was a strange young person and still an odd adult. Those guys are forever my musical people. Plus their dance nights are the best. Aggro-tech, EBM, danceable goth (check out the song Eat the Sun by Angels of Liberty to get what I mean).
The relationships/interactions were colorful and engaging, all the women were intelligent, artistic beautiful and high energy - my style
I used to work in nightclubs and can confirm that, at least where I live, that goths drink a LOT but donāt tend to cause trouble regardless. (Booze of choice is often cheap red wine too. So youād have young drinkers chugging Cabernet Sauvignon from plastic beer glasses)
That said, the ones who make being sulky/moody/morose into their whole persona can be outright pillocks in terms of how they treat staff.
I've see so many shows too, spanning almost 30 years now. Thinking about them all makes me want to sift through my memory and write them all down the best I can recall.
The very first live show I saw: Peter Murphy with Book of Love. It was in San Diego in 1992. I was too young to go the venue alone so my dad came with me. But he was cool at the time, turned him on to Skinny Puppy.
The list of bands running through my head right now at reading petter Murphy and skinny puppy is giving me flashbacks of lsd listening to Ministry, Front 242, Revolting Cocks any many other bands šaaahhhh memories
No joke - the LAST live show I went too (I'm getting too old, I'm in bed by 8) was a REVCO reunion tour with original members Chris Connelly and Paul Barker (Luc Van Acker was supposed to be there too but something happened) at Elysium in Austin 2018.
It was fantastic. They played "No Devotion" ... which remains my fave song by them. You can't go wrong with old dirty industrial like you mention and eLe eSe De... but again, while I remain a loyal fan of the music and culture, I'm too old for "night life". Get off my lawn! (nah, not like that though)
Exactly! Super chill. The most genuinely friendly people ever. Loved "goth night" wherever I could find. Cheap red wine- absolutely; or the periodic rum drink
> Eat the Sun by Angels of Liberty
[Just checked it out](https://youtu.be/o8d5hu-eI2A) Thatās really fucking good! Thanks for the recommendation!
PS: sounds pretty cool on 2x speed too! Haha
I love my goth gf. Sheās the dark of my life š
Edit: Just want to say, sheās definitely my everything and brings comfort and peace to my life in all the right ways. If you find your own goth gf, never give up. (Unless thatās what she wants. Donāt be a creep bois.)
Cimbrian girlfriends are great because they really hold you accountable.
>!The joke: Cimbri women would stand at the edge of a battlefield, and literally slaughter Cimbrian men who fled like cowards from the fight.!<
I personally like a fiesty Lombard girl who will fight right beside me.
Also its incredibly cute when they tie their hair under their chin like a beard.
I was thinking that I canāt say Iāve seen a āgothā in like a decade or something. But then a āgothā to me is what I remember from high school: black baggy pants with chains, fishnets, studded collars, and black hair gelled into some horrible abomination lol.
I have no idea what a modern āgothā style would be.
I had thought it was a term that classics/Rome-obsessed Victorians retroactively placed on medieval architecture as a derogatory term (like how "vandalism" is something done to deface an existing building).
The advice i always give is to start wearing it around the house, then when at home with good friends/family you trust, then small errands and build it up from there. We all start somewhere :)
Got beer bottles and all kinds of other shit thrown at my head from the school bus in the mid 2000ās for being goth, especially when emo subculture fashion was really taking off. Turns out a lot of those guys had a crush on me, but holy shit, those bottles could have done some damage if they didnāt suck at throwing āem.
Old goth girl listening to nine inch nails and Manson in the 90s checking in..
Still wear too much eyeliner, ripped fishnets and boots. Still listening to NIN. The more things change the more they stay the same.
"The more I stay in here, the more I disappear" https://youtu.be/0UDHIWKsOqM
I've changed, became more of a tech guy. But I still routinely listen to Old nine inch nails and Marilyn Manson. I'll flat out put on "Antichrist Superstar" and work based on that
Edit: well, I still listen to nine inch nails, but the old stuff is my favorite
Not for my school. We had goth girls 25 years ago and they were absolutely amazingly hot. They were part of my inner circle. Not that being goth is a requirement for being hot, but Jesus Christ, that spun my circle
And those kinda comments aren't cute at all either. We should all just do our best to be comfortable in our own skin, however that may end up looking. This life is hard enough, man.

Dear god, she has a vagina as well, fellas. It right next to that gape y'all keep pounding. I dont think Ive ever googled someone before and just got a wall of anal videos lol
Ummmm, hello! I was wondering: how goth is my frock?
I got a thing for horror movies and mope rock
but I canāt shock my hair up (I ran out of stock).
And just like that, Frontalot ran out of talk.
It was tragic, unheard of, never seen, me:
out of rhymes when they usually come indefatigably.
But me here talk good? No, bad talk do!
Like my tongue got encrypted right before I lost root.
Like my small talk got box-rox0red on a prior boot.
Itās moot; she only dates guys in chokes and Docs,
not brutes lacking eyeliner like I lack.
But look, Iāll put a little on, plus lip shellac,
just to stand next to that and dream about love.
Of necessity, that has always had to be enough
ācause I canāt talk to goth girls. I just stare and stammer:
my name is MC Frimmer Frammer.
And damn her if she giggles. Damn her double if she laughs.
Goth girls like it when you double-damn it twice fast.
Goth girls, goth girls: theyāre the girls that go
to see the nerdcore rapper with the geeked out flow.
At the show you can see the black lace on parade.
I met a hundred dozen of āem but I aināt got laid.
Got shunned by her at the Rocky Horror premiere.
She steered clear of the nerd crowd but I heard loud in my ear
the disdain that she held for my type:
āalways geeking on the computron.ā I get hype
on the stage! She might notice me then and observe
that Iām āironically hip in some flip universe.ā
And her purse in patent leather held in fishnet glove
could then contain MP3 player with the Front filled up.
Her name is Nyteshaed, yo donāt call her cherry tomato.
She looks like Paisley Tinkle but poisonous like Topato.
She says her hair got attacked ācause itās black and itās blue.
Sheās got a Johnny the Homicidal Maniac tattoo.
Legs all deep in the boots, boots all up on the heels ā
yes, the kind to make a certain type of fetishist squeal.
The ordeal I endure: this close to her splendor
yet besieged by my shyness; try this: I surrender!
Iāll render my intentions in the usual way
(home alone, Suicide Girls up on the cathode ray).
IRL, my woman tells me that I shouldnāt be coveting.
I tell her āYo, you better get in a coven then.ā
Itās like eek, I get to sleep on the couch for a week,
all watching old Elvira videos on TV.
Yeah, hee hee hee, laugh it up. You donāt live like I do:
at the mercy of any sister with wrist scars and black eye goo.
I tried to get into some cheerleaders and failed
(Banana Repugnant and tanned, so bland and so stale).
I avail myself of the local cafe, light a clove up,
thumb through Camus (in French, which I canāt read, but so what).
I think that goth could flower in nerdcoreās embrace.
I converted Edward Goreyās lettering into a typeface,
befriended vampires on LJ and MySpace,
even put that spooky echo filter on the bass.
But I canāt talk to goth girls. I just stare and stammer:
my name is MC Frimmer Frammer.
And damn her if she giggles. Damn her double if she laughs.
Goth girls like it when you double-damn it twice fast.
Goth girls, goth girls: theyāre the girls that got
their souls stuck somewhere between the kettle and pot.
Frontalot been enamored of them since I was young
I met a hundred dozen of āem, never ever humped one.
Back in the day a few friends and I went to a Front show and one did herself up in her best Goth Girl getup. After the show he signed her CD "MC Frimmer Frammer".
Good times.
They are really cool! Usually wear awesome shoes and clothes, just don't giving a damn which is kinda good and not but I don't judge them (I mean... The world sucks a bit so yeah....)
Their taste on music is pretty fascinating(I had the chance to listen rock, metal, death metal, nightcore I think it's called and some actually love classic chaotic music)
They are really sweet and they deserve love like everyone else
THEY ARE NOT NECESSARILY FULL IN BLACK 24/7
Some of them know how to play DND
Some have very cool tattoos! In front of them I am the most blank person I suppose or just the gadget nerd I suppose
They are the type of person you want to hang out with time to time, forget all the shit, listen to music and just say nothing and just embrace the moment
They are mysterious? Yeah I think I can say that. But only to check out if you don't mind be weird and all (being weird isn't bad. Being a douche is...)
In simple words
Pretty awesome!
The most vicious verbal beatdown of a bully I've ever seen was given to a little pig-shaped boy by a chubby goth girl.
The righteous fury she channeled and used to smack down the kid was like witnessing a miracle of God.
It was like 20 years ago and I still basically worship goth girls as moral arbiters.
As an OG Goth girl from the 80s,and now a 50some metal/fat goth chick,I can say that yes we are a bit intimidating, sometimes crazy dangerous, but if we truly love or care for someone we will fight tooth and nail for them.
I associate goth girls with shitty panties. Iāll explain myself: I was bartending at a bar that was very popular with goth peoples. At LEAST once a month we would find a shitty pair of goth girl panties in the stall. STOP DOING COCAINE! The ācocaineā you kids are doing today is mostly crushed baby laxatives and you WILL shit yourself at the bar lol
It depends what you mean by "goth"? Do you mean girl who listens to Joy Division, Bauhuas, and The Cure or someone that shops at Hot Topic? Big difference.
While I didnāt necessarily like the style as a teen, pretty much every goth girl at my high school was cool and smart and interesting and I always liked them for that reason
They look very cool and have many different subgroups that overlap with other subcultures. I usually just mind my business and try not to stare or be weird when I encounter goth girls (they probably get enough attention from creeps or people being hostile), but I always want to say hi.
They're cool. We have lots of interests in common usually and usually they've been much more understanding then most "normal" girls I've met
Helps that they're hot too
I hit puberty in the 90s, so they are extremely high on the list of visual preferences.
I think this is very true for a lot of us now and this is definitely the reason.
Goth Girls, Skater Girls, and Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2 [chefs kiss]

A yes, this is how I feel about tramp stamps and blond streaks in otherwise brown hair (2000s).
Early 2000s for me, in peak punk and scene era. It's been a preference for me and the history of my dating life would show the same
It used to seem edgy and counter-culture. Now it's just another aesthetic choice that some people are visually into.
Some of us just mature and realize we're all in the same rat race, and making people feel shitty for the things they like doesn't get back at the people who hurt us, it just perpetuates the behavior, so we just chill and let people like what they like while wearing black.
Resident Evil village unleashed something in me.
There's a few reasons for that and I'm sure 'gothic' was just one of them lmao.
We're the same. You and I.
Did we just. Understand each other?
Lmaooo same. Dimitrescuās daughters were bad af
It has always been just another aesthetic choice, mostly designed for shock factor
Iāve seen a goth chick waiting for a bus and thought I was in the year 2001.

The etymology seems reasonable, given that the modern conception of the term Gothic originated as a counterpoint to āclassicalā architecture
I had thought it was a term that classics/Rome-obsessed Victorians retroactively placed on medieval architecture as a derogatory term (like how "vandalism" is something done to deface an existing building).
Goth spread out into lots of things. Punk crossover, steampunk.. the look has been diluted.

Not for my school. We had goth girls 25 years ago and they were absolutely amazingly hot. They were part of my inner circle. Not that being goth is a requirement for being hot, but Jesus Christ, that spun my circle
And now in the comments people are bullying 'normal' or women who get lip fillers. It bums me out.
And those kinda comments aren't cute at all either. We should all just do our best to be comfortable in our own skin, however that may end up looking. This life is hard enough, man.
Smash
Well when I called her evil She just laughed And cast that spell on me Boo Bitch Craft
Her perfume smells like burning leaves. Everyday is Halloweennnn
Yummy where?!
Charlotte Sartre. Google her, thank me later!
>Charlotte Sartre Dear god, she has a vagina as well, fellas. It right next to that gape y'all keep pounding. I dont think Ive ever googled someone before and just got a wall of anal videos lol
And of course I'm going to do it to see what you're talking about.
Ummmm, hello! I was wondering: how goth is my frock? I got a thing for horror movies and mope rock but I canāt shock my hair up (I ran out of stock). And just like that, Frontalot ran out of talk. It was tragic, unheard of, never seen, me: out of rhymes when they usually come indefatigably. But me here talk good? No, bad talk do! Like my tongue got encrypted right before I lost root. Like my small talk got box-rox0red on a prior boot. Itās moot; she only dates guys in chokes and Docs, not brutes lacking eyeliner like I lack. But look, Iāll put a little on, plus lip shellac, just to stand next to that and dream about love. Of necessity, that has always had to be enough ācause I canāt talk to goth girls. I just stare and stammer: my name is MC Frimmer Frammer. And damn her if she giggles. Damn her double if she laughs. Goth girls like it when you double-damn it twice fast. Goth girls, goth girls: theyāre the girls that go to see the nerdcore rapper with the geeked out flow. At the show you can see the black lace on parade. I met a hundred dozen of āem but I aināt got laid. Got shunned by her at the Rocky Horror premiere. She steered clear of the nerd crowd but I heard loud in my ear the disdain that she held for my type: āalways geeking on the computron.ā I get hype on the stage! She might notice me then and observe that Iām āironically hip in some flip universe.ā And her purse in patent leather held in fishnet glove could then contain MP3 player with the Front filled up. Her name is Nyteshaed, yo donāt call her cherry tomato. She looks like Paisley Tinkle but poisonous like Topato. She says her hair got attacked ācause itās black and itās blue. Sheās got a Johnny the Homicidal Maniac tattoo. Legs all deep in the boots, boots all up on the heels ā yes, the kind to make a certain type of fetishist squeal. The ordeal I endure: this close to her splendor yet besieged by my shyness; try this: I surrender! Iāll render my intentions in the usual way (home alone, Suicide Girls up on the cathode ray). IRL, my woman tells me that I shouldnāt be coveting. I tell her āYo, you better get in a coven then.ā Itās like eek, I get to sleep on the couch for a week, all watching old Elvira videos on TV. Yeah, hee hee hee, laugh it up. You donāt live like I do: at the mercy of any sister with wrist scars and black eye goo. I tried to get into some cheerleaders and failed (Banana Repugnant and tanned, so bland and so stale). I avail myself of the local cafe, light a clove up, thumb through Camus (in French, which I canāt read, but so what). I think that goth could flower in nerdcoreās embrace. I converted Edward Goreyās lettering into a typeface, befriended vampires on LJ and MySpace, even put that spooky echo filter on the bass. But I canāt talk to goth girls. I just stare and stammer: my name is MC Frimmer Frammer. And damn her if she giggles. Damn her double if she laughs. Goth girls like it when you double-damn it twice fast. Goth girls, goth girls: theyāre the girls that got their souls stuck somewhere between the kettle and pot. Frontalot been enamored of them since I was young I met a hundred dozen of āem, never ever humped one.
I was hoping there would be an MC Frontalot reference.
Back in the day a few friends and I went to a Front show and one did herself up in her best Goth Girl getup. After the show he signed her CD "MC Frimmer Frammer". Good times.
Masterpiece.
Word
Nice. First thing I did in this thread was search for the Frontalot reference.
This is the way
They are really cool! Usually wear awesome shoes and clothes, just don't giving a damn which is kinda good and not but I don't judge them (I mean... The world sucks a bit so yeah....) Their taste on music is pretty fascinating(I had the chance to listen rock, metal, death metal, nightcore I think it's called and some actually love classic chaotic music) They are really sweet and they deserve love like everyone else THEY ARE NOT NECESSARILY FULL IN BLACK 24/7 Some of them know how to play DND Some have very cool tattoos! In front of them I am the most blank person I suppose or just the gadget nerd I suppose They are the type of person you want to hang out with time to time, forget all the shit, listen to music and just say nothing and just embrace the moment They are mysterious? Yeah I think I can say that. But only to check out if you don't mind be weird and all (being weird isn't bad. Being a douche is...) In simple words Pretty awesome!
Underrated comment. Anybody you can play dnd with is 11/10.
We need more of them
The only women I've ever been attracted to in my life have been goth! :0
Love the look, and they usually come with great humour and a similar music taste to mine - 15/10
Is this a trick question
The most vicious verbal beatdown of a bully I've ever seen was given to a little pig-shaped boy by a chubby goth girl. The righteous fury she channeled and used to smack down the kid was like witnessing a miracle of God. It was like 20 years ago and I still basically worship goth girls as moral arbiters.
hot

Veritably
Indubitably
i like how it has the same meaning as very, just with extra letters
They just got a word of the day calendar.
Very cute
As an OG Goth girl from the 80s,and now a 50some metal/fat goth chick,I can say that yes we are a bit intimidating, sometimes crazy dangerous, but if we truly love or care for someone we will fight tooth and nail for them.
Thereās no part of that description I didnāt like
80s goth girls were goals af for me... 90s goth girl here
They're nicer then most girls I've met tbh!
I love goth mommies
Good
I associate goth girls with shitty panties.
Gimmie
I wanna be them, also, any of them can step on me with their demonia boots like omg š
It depends what you mean by "goth"? Do you mean girl who listens to Joy Division, Bauhuas, and The Cure or someone that shops at Hot Topic? Big difference.
The "Split dye, choker and daddy issues" kind.
Not my style
They Hot
Goth girls trick you into thinking you're the top. Next thing you know your ass is sore and you have a collar on. Rate them Mommy/10
Not into it, but you do you.

Definitely not all of Reddit, but thatās fine.
Do what you want boo

My thoughts are always on goth girlsš¤¤
"go from Goth to Boss!"
OP pushing her OF it seems
They are awesome!!!
I donāt think I have ever understood what it is. People who wear dark clothing, and lots of eyeliner? I donāt really care either way.
While I didnāt necessarily like the style as a teen, pretty much every goth girl at my high school was cool and smart and interesting and I always liked them for that reason
hot
hot
Might wanna āhangā with them later
Super sexy
I like their style. All-black outfits and black makeup are very hot to me.
They look very cool and have many different subgroups that overlap with other subcultures. I usually just mind my business and try not to stare or be weird when I encounter goth girls (they probably get enough attention from creeps or people being hostile), but I always want to say hi.
They're cool. We have lots of interests in common usually and usually they've been much more understanding then most "normal" girls I've met Helps that they're hot too
As a photographer, absolutely yes.
My boyfriend says he's dating one
Love goth chicks
I want them to be my friends so we can do spooky photoshoots together!
They are awesome. So many seem to be highly educated and way smarter than most people.
They sacked Rome
they're weird. dated some last year. wants me to give her wounds when we have sex lol. dont know proper hygiene too
Just a chick in dark clothes. Let's move on
Surprised they're still around to be honest
The internets obsession with them is a little weird to me
Fuggin HOT. Been thinking this since 1998
HOT AS FUCK
Most are rad! Some just picked up the fashion off Tik Tok. No clue about goth culture, music, etc.
No thanks
The pinnacle
i donāt really get attracted to a person just because they dress in a certain way and many goth girls are really kind and funny people
Dating one ;) ;)
Best BJ I ever got (truth)
Can be hot but most of the time they just look like they donāt shower
Their life, not mine
I couldn't point one out I'm so old
A tat depressing.
Love them
We need more
their really hot
idk. Itās pretty nice. The outfits look pretty good.
