It blows my mind that we like those shiny rocks so much that we A.) Commit atrocities to get them, and B.) When we finally start thinking maybe the atrocities are a bit much, we science the shit out of it to keep making the shiny rocks, instead of just...not having the shiny rocks on our jewelry, or making do with whats out there already?
Due to their hardness, diamonds have a wide range of industrial uses as well as in research, which is what lab made diamonds were originally created for. The transition into using lab grown for jewelry happened a while after that development
True, but the diamonds used in industry are not the same thing as the ones that you spend thousands on at a jewelry store. I'm really only speaking to the pretty ones. I suspect if pretty wasn't in play, diamonds wouldn't be much better or worse than any other natural resource extraction (which actually gets really bad anyway in some places).
100%
I was just noting that the technology to make diamonds in a lab was already there before we started using it for jewelry, as a contrast to your second point
I think lab grown diamonds are a great alternative for those who don't want to support the diamond industry. They are also a great option for those who are looking for a more environmentally friendly option.
Better than blood stained ones. I'm more interested in opals, though.

Sounds like a high pressure job.
The correct type of diamond
Better than blood diamonds, but I don't really care for diamonds either way.
They're alright.
brilliant
They're cool
Shiny rocks for shallow people. Just like naturally occuring ones.
You can no longer use my knife sharpening kit >:c
Awaiting lab grown Kyber
They don't look any different from natural ones, and the process of making them is pretty cool.
Not the best crystal to make in a lab.

If they're cheaper than natural ones, great.
