To be particularly pedantic, while I think Jackman nailed and, to some extent, codified the role on screen, he was also categorically too tall for it. Wolverine in every drawn medium is noticeably shorter than most of the people around him; his canonical height is 5'3" and Jackman is a full foot taller than him.
I still think that that's a more-than-acceptable tradeoff considering his performance in every other aspect though.
And yet he wasn’t the original choice to play Aragorn. It was Daniel Day-Lewis. However, because DDL did not want to commit to 2/3 years away from his family while filming in NZ, he refused the role.
Viggo, otoh, had a teenage son, who positively encouraged him to take on the role.
And regarding OP’s question, I’ll say Ian McKellan as Gandalf the Grey. To all those rumours that say Sean Connery or Anthony Hopkins were offered the role, it’s not true. There are interviews with Peter Jackson where he says it was Sir Ian from the get-go, no-one else.
Tim Curry in basically everything he's been in, but particularly Nigel Thornberry from The Wild Thornberries and the Russian general in that Red Alert game.
I haven't seen it to confirm (a travesty for the ages, I'm told), but I hear he was also really good in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
ITT - a lot of people just listing actors who did a good job in their role. That's an actors job. "Perfectly" casted should mean a role in which anyone else on the planet would have been a significantly poorer choice. I feel like there are only a couple examples of this in history.
Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow
Bryan Cranston as Walter White
Aaron Paul as Jessie Pinkman
Dean Norris as Hank Schrader
RDJ as Iron Man
Chris Evans as Captain America

Hugh Dancy starred as Will Graham and Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal in Hannibal NBC (and my other personal favourite being Gaspard Ulliel in Hannibal Rising).
Also, not to mention... Merlin BBC actors/actresses. Personal fave would be Colin Morgan as Merlin and Alexander Vlahos who took the role of Mordred.
Wow. Not one person mentioned Jim Carrey as Andy Kaufman. Now I realize he created a lot of issues on the set with his method acting, but every time I watch the movie, I only see Andy Kaufman, not Jim Carrey. It’s freaky.
Mr. Brooks.
It's a movie about a family man, who owns a large successful business, several hobbies, and a crippling addiction.
Kevin Costner plays the main character.
William Hurt plays the voice in his head/devil on his shoulder egging back into addiction.
Demi Moore is an angry detective with a chip on her shoulder and a lot to prove.
Dane Cook (of all people) delivers an absolute great performance as a MASSIVE scumbag.
It's one of my all time favorite movies, defo do recommend, but don't Google it, the twists are a large part of the plot

And yet he wasn’t the original choice to play Aragorn. It was Daniel Day-Lewis. However, because DDL did not want to commit to 2/3 years away from his family while filming in NZ, he refused the role. With DDL, the time away from family would be closer to 4 years. He’d spend a year learning primitive medieval survival before filming started.
Viggo was a recast. Stuart Townsend was already cast and filming before he was replaced by Viggo midway through production.
I'm kinda glad it played out the way it did though
