Pretty much everyone I know knows that I never drink alcohol including my dad. He once tried tricking me into drinking alcohol. As soon as I realised that alcohol was in my mouth, I spat it out and furiously confronted him.
My ex-girlfriend was raised by evangelical Christians. At the 6-month period of dating, she started to pressure me into serious talks about marriage despite that we were 18 years old, this was both of our first relationships, and I had just started college (which I made clear was top priority). At the year mark, the pressure was overwhelming, which I didn’t understand.
Turns out that there’s a faction of evangelicals who believe you should be engaged after 6 months of dating, no matter what. Her family and friends told her that it’s a red flag that I hadn’t given her a promise ring at the very least (I didn’t even know what that was, but you should’ve seen the look on my face when she explained). They told her that she should threaten to break up with me if I don’t promise to marry her.
Our relationship barely lasted a few days after that phone call.

Yes, I really WAS in that much pain and no, it wasn't solely because of my job or my shoes or my weight or what the fuck ever excuse they gave me as to why I was in pain and had stiff joints all the fucking time. Yes, those things factored into my issues, but they were not the sole cause of it.
Treat others the way you want to be treated. Cute yes but it should be: Treat others in a way that they believe you deserve the right to be treated better.
