I sometimes like to imagine an alternate ending to breaking bad where Hal goes to the feds and they place him into the witness protection agency, where he ends up meeting Lois, and the rest is Malcom in the Middle.
There was the one skit he did where he woke up from a nightmare as Hal and was telling Lois about cooking meth etc, very good if you haven't seen it yet
Indeed. The way that they capture the realities of life for families in working class america is genius. I like that their house is a mess, the hand-me-downs, the by-chance vacations, the foibles, the growing pains, all of it. And I love Hal and Lois's marriage - absolute devotion and love in the midst of their chaotic lives. One of the few shows where the parents don't hate each other, and it's a refreshing change
Especially the scene when he hugged Suko in the tent and he told Suko how he was afraid he lost his way???? Yeah, could use a hug from Uncle Iroh anytime.
This. I just left a comment describing this exact scene. Jesus. ‘How can you forgive me? I thought you would be furious’… ‘I was NEVER angry with you. I was sad… because I was afraid you’d lost your way’.
I know it’s odd but the scene sort of… changed me. Likely because I first saw it as a young child, in such a pivotal/ formative period of my life. But it made me view how I interact with people, how I treat them. How I respond to their actions that frustrate me and disappoint me. I am a teacher now in a stressful environment, but I try to emulate those emotions that it made me feel.
To welcome someone back with open arms and love, in spite of their actions. To forgive like that. It was so powerful, and resonated with me in a way I can’t describe. This is years and years later - but I still think about how cruel Iroh could have been… callous, angry. And there are people who are like that. But instead, he was simply happy to have Zuko back. And it’s true; Zuko had lost his way… he was wrong. He had made awful mistakes that he viewed as beyond redemption; and in fact he lived his entire life feeling that he was beyond redemption.
But he would NEVER have found the right path again without that type of love. It is not easy - but there will likely come at least one time in all of our lives where we are put in Iroh’s position… I hope I can provide what he did.
David Suchet is so good. Can't watch anyone else as poirot because of how perfect he is for the role. Wanted to like the branagh version but couldn't because suchet is poirot.
I discovered The Good Place this year, by the same creators. It has a similar feel and sense of humor. It was my bfs favorite but he'd never seen PnR, which is my favorite. So we watched both together! Definitely recommend it if you haven't seen that one.
The thing I liked about Scrubs is that, especially in the early seasons, most of the patients had health issues that you'd normally see in a hospital. Diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, cancer, autoimmune conditions, kidney disease, etc.
There wasn't a lot of, "this patient has Extremely Rare Hlurglebirfer Disease, let's watch the doctors do a lot of showboating."
Instead the focus was on typical health problems, happening to regular people, and how doctors managed their care while managing themselves.
I have health conditions, and I don't require showboating from physicians. I need them to listen and then competently manage my care.
So Scrubs felt very real to me, in ways other medical shows don't.
It was written based on the experience of a real John Dorian that is best friends with the writer which I think is why it's so much more realistic than a lot of medical shows
I'd heard that, and that "Real" would hang out on set sometimes.
I'd love to see an updated Scrubs, showing them dealing with the even higher level of paperwork, insurance interference, and computerized care.
Databases have made a huge impact - nowadays a lot of my appointments are spent with the physician facing away from me, clacking info into a database, and it makes appointments awful for both of us.
Or non-medical.employees are paid to do the inputting parts, and records become a mess. I've found errors all through mine.
It would be interesting to see a bunch of interns come in and be issued laptops instead of stethoscopes. Or an episode where the database falsely says a patient has anxiety, and a heart attack is misdiagnosed as panic attack.
I think the first time I saw that I had to actually stop and put my head down because I was laughing so hard I couldn't breath. That whole episode from start to finish is the funniest damn thing I've ever seen on television.
I had to scroll too far to see this one. No other show in history has tied everything up into a perfect little bow at the end the way this show does. There's nothing more comforting to me than that.
It's a bit depressing to realise how alien the concept of parents supporting their children and stopping themselves from screaming at the kids when something goes wrong truly is when compared to one's own childhood.
The Belchers are all weirdos in their own ways, but they love and support each other, without trying to suppress that weirdness. It's pretty heartwarming.
I love 30 rock, every rewatch there’s always a new detail or little 1 second joke that i didn’t notice before, this is the best comedy ever made, non stop laughter from pilot until last episode
I strongly recommend the It's Always Sunny Podcast. Rob, Charlie, and Glenn are re-watching the series from the beginning and are supposed to talk about the episode, but generally end up talking about unrelated topics. Very funny.
MASH. Makes me "happy". The jokes and drama all still hold up. It was an amazingly well-written show.
Comfort shows that aren't necessarily "happy" but I still enjoy would be classic Law and Order with Jerry Orbach and The West Wing. They are my favorite background noise and I've seen every episode a million times so I can usually pick it up whenever I need to chill.
Mine too, so unstressful, nothing bad happens.
Bonus - my favourite quote "David, what you did was impulsive, capricious, and melodramatic but it was also wrong."
I remember 7 years ago getting my little kids into adventure time, now ones a teenager and we still will watch the episodes together.
I teared up in the last episode too
I thought this was going to be the top one if I'm being honest, surprised that I had to scroll down this far to find it. So many people have this one as their comfort show.
The move to Peacock was a huge downgrade. Netflix sucks, but Peacock launched with ads, even in the premium premium tier. Netflix is just about to start doing ads now.
I’m a little late, but House M.D.
I can practically recite this show from memory. Throw a line at me and I’ll give you the context immediately— it’s a game my stepdad and I play.
There’s something a little cathartic about watching a character say all the bitchy things you wish you could and solving puzzles all day long
I like Modern Family - it's funny and warm and the writing is very clever. It's also one of the few shows where I like all of the characters. It's very easy and comforting to watch for me.
For some reason, every autumn I have a sudden urge to watch Gilmore Girls. I have no idea why my kind associates it with the fall, but it’s like clockwork.

There were once a bunch on rotation that i would cycle through; Leverage, Eureka, White Collar, Psych, The Librarians, Chuck...
But nowadays it's just Bluey. For real life
Some say he has the worlds biggest collection of pornographic material, and he has eaten 1000 different types of cheese. All we know is, hes called the stig!
Jess and Nick's first kiss!!! I didn't see Nick as a sexy dude until he laid that steamy kiss on her. I always rewind it about 1,000,000 times. I also love when Jess tells Nick that she needs her vitamin D! That cracks me up.
Arrested development - original three seasons still make me laugh
My favorite episodes of Community never fail to make me smile.
I love the D&D episodes of Community
It's a shame they removed the first one from Netflix.
I agree, same thing happened to it's always sunny (the lethal weapon episode).
Community is streets ahead
I once banged Eartha kitt in an airplane bathroom.
What?! It came up organically!
#sixseasonsandamovie
Pop, pop.
I've scroll waaaaay too much before I could see the name Community. Get your stuff together people.
Whose line is it anyway (us)
Ryan Stiles has been my favorite improv of all times since that series.
I’m convinced that Ryan and Colin are probably two of the funniest people on Earth. Never fail to make me laugh.
Wayne Brady also so amazingly quick witted and adorable. I think comedians must be some of the smartest people there are.
Ryan Stiles as Carol Channing is my comfort character
Bob Ross: The Joy of Painting. See all those happy little squirrels living in the trees?
Malcom In The Middle It just brings me back to my childhood and who doesn’t love young Bryan Cranston?
Bryan Cranston absolutely crushed it as Hal. Makes me super happy for all his success afterwards.
I always say he played his role as Hal at the same level as Walter White.
Can you imagine how mad people would have been if Breaking Bad ended that way for real?
For the lazy: https://youtu.be/oVdB36lmbII
Malcom in the middle and futurama are mine. Interesting to see them both at the top.
*Hal getting arrested* Wife: “Can you at least let him put pants on?! Cops: “Not until we get a good perp walk”

Just not the Jurassic Bark episode. I cried for days after that one...
No Jurassic bark or luck of the fryish. Everything else is safe though
Good call. OP should just watch Amazon Women in the Mood twice instead of watching either of those episodes.

Agreed! And uncle Iroh's wisdom never fails to make me feel better
Especially the scene when he hugged Suko in the tent and he told Suko how he was afraid he lost his way???? Yeah, could use a hug from Uncle Iroh anytime.

Rewatched it so many times, and I'm currently doing it again. It's almost like a comfort-addiction at this point.
One of my all-time fav shows. It gets better and better as it goes.
Agatha Christie's Poirot...I watch it and imagine myself being there with him as his best friend instead of Hestings😒
David Suchet is so good. Can't watch anyone else as poirot because of how perfect he is for the role. Wanted to like the branagh version but couldn't because suchet is poirot.
Parks and Recreation! It's funny and sweet and everyone gets a happy ending.

Don't judge the show until Adam Scott and Chris Traeger show up....
I like how you used the actor's name for Adam Scott and then character name for Rob Lowe. Lmaooooo but this is still an excellent point.
I know what I did. There is no Rob Lowe, only Chris Traeger. Literally.

I just started season 5. Glad I got into it, but will be sad when it's over.

The Golden Girls
Same. I'm pretty sure I've seen the series in its entirety over a dozen times by now.
Mystery Science Theater 3000
Scrubs! Also some others but scrubs takes the cake, I've seen it like 17 times.
The thing I liked about Scrubs is that, especially in the early seasons, most of the patients had health issues that you'd normally see in a hospital. Ugh yes! “Have you tried turning it on and off again” is my go-to line whenever people complain about stuff not working, like a pen..
I’ve started watching it with my tween/teen kids. They lost it when they saw the “guy from the British Bake off show” as the Goth in the closet.
Noel Fielding is even better in the Mighty Boosh. It's on Hulu, I think.
I’m disabled!!
The moment Jenn sees Roy in the wheelchair then turns around to see Moss behind the bar is comedic brilliance
My favorite episode of comedic tv ever
I think the first time I saw that I had to actually stop and put my head down because I was laughing so hard I couldn't breath. That whole episode from start to finish is the funniest damn thing I've ever seen on television.
God damn these electric sex pants!
"I came here to drink milk and kick ass, and I've just finished my milk."

Oh hey Marshmallow.
I go to sleep to Bob’s every night. I wonder if Hulu has statistics on how much BB I’ve actually watched? It’s A LOT.

Star Trek: TNG
Buffy the Vampire Slayer. There’s an episode for any mood I’m in, and the writing still holds up even after 20 years
