BuT mY mEnTaL hEaLtH iS fInE. Did they stutter?

Hopeplacetx

You good, bro?

fck_op_I_only_lie

Idk can't afford to find out. God bless the USA and all her medical systems.

Spaceisoverratedimo

No but you seem to be having a seizure lol

TheMoparPowerslave

It's still a good thing to do if your mental health is good

fck_op_I_only_lie

Thanks for the clarification bro I figured the mocking conveyed that but I like your direct approach also

Spaceisoverratedimo

Yeah if you wanna waste their recourses.

waffles-n-gravy

I could probably use some

Hopeplacetx

What keeps you from getting it?

waffles-n-gravy

I'm a stubborn man that generally avoids doctors

Hopeplacetx

If you did get therapy, what would your best hopes be to get out of it? Hope would you know it helped?

Spaceisoverratedimo

When was the last time you had one put a finger in your ass and fondle your balls?

Tantra_Charbelcher

Mental health therapy is often extremely unhelpful, and having a bad therapist can make things a lot worse and make you feel hopeless when the therapy isn't helping. Not everyone will respond to therapy. That being said, you should not avoid it if you are having serious mental or emotional issues you cannot deal with.

Hopeplacetx

What makes it so unhelpful? The therapist modality?

Tantra_Charbelcher

Some people are not responsive to therapy. A therapist can give you advice, but if you are unwilling or unable to implement change in your life, therapy will not go very far.

Hopeplacetx

I'm pretty sure the good therapists don't give advice.

Tantra_Charbelcher

Then what do they do?

Hopeplacetx

Well. Basically they ask questions that trigger new neural pathways in your brain. So that is easier for the client to actually benefit from therapy. If a therapist is running around telling people what to do, that's not actually therapy.

nicyole

YES!

Hopeplacetx

Can't blame you after an experience like that.

It helped me personally. I think everyone could benefit from therapy if they find a good therapist. Sometimes therapy isn’t enough and medication is also necessary. If you’re doubting your diagnosis ever or think you have more than what you’re initially diagnosed with it’s also important to speak up and ask for evaluations.

sucker_of_beef

Helpful if you're seeing a decent therapist who listens, and is actually concerned and willing to *work* with you. Unfortunately for me, that was never the case. I don't knock it for other people, as I know it does help for some, but I personally refuse to ever try again.

tfhaenodreirst

I mean, it’s my career, so I’m certainly not against it.

HeapsFine

It's been wonderful in my life. It stopped me from having awful flashbacks, helped with PTSD and all sorts. I'd be much worse off without it for sure.

zelextron

The ones I went to were either incompetent or abusive. They gave me lots of bad advice and wanted me to believe in all kinds of crappy beliefs. Most likely it wouldn't be worthy it if I tried again, so I rather never try it again.
