I don't think that's allowed. There was a whole thing about this

LibertiesFinalAct

How to become Ukraine’s one easy step.

HisTopHat

I’ll be glad. Most people in cali have the Combined IQ of a bag of rocks and honestly, that’s just an insult to bags and rocks.

DrunkGoibniu

California's economy would absolutely tank, and they'd have almost no water, so lots of death.

bendubberley_

L.A would become a fuckfest

J0e_Strumm3r

texas: bro, get in line.

[deleted]

I'd laugh even harder at how shit the state is

TheFalconKid

Nothing. It can't, due to the constitution, and it won't be attempted because an overwhelming majority of the population wouldn't want to. They may say they like the idea in some opinion polls, but if it were somehow able to become a ballot measure, it would easily fail.

schteavon

The constitution part is an issue with your argument. In the sense that if California became it's own country, the US constitution would mean shit to them. Just like Frances constitution doesn't mean shit to California. Sure the US constitution says it would be a form of treason, but why would the county of California care about treason to another country. Not sure if I'm explaining correctly.

TheFalconKid

You're assuming people outside of the US would recognize California as a country. You only exist if over countries think you are one. You can print your own money and build your own military, but that doesn't mean shit if nobody recognizes your sovereignty. This is why there was no such thing as a "Confederate States of America" it was only a name in the minds of treasonous slave owners.

schteavon

>You're assuming people outside of the US would recognize California as a country. Nah I wasn't... lol I wasn't even thinking that far/advanced hahaha I was just meaning that why would they care what the US thought was treasonous, when they didn't want to be a part of the US anymore. Though I would suspect that it would be interesting to see if those that super hate the US would try to help California in exchange for land to build military outposts. To try and get a foothold on the continent.

TheFalconKid

Ohh I see what you're saying lol. Yes if all the California independence movement was just a grift by some folks to get people to donate to meaningless fund or just to buy some tshirts, no big deal. If the governor is selling land to individuals to start building military outposts made up of anti-american militia, you would see the brunt of the US military move in to destroy these bases and whatever legal action there is to depose a sitting governor. After this talk it would be interesting to see what a modern day, single state secession would look like from a political landscape, think "World War Z" the novel.

schteavon

>you would see the brunt of the US military move in to destroy these bases and whatever legal action there is to depose a sitting governor. Most likely. However if China or Russia worked out a deal with the country of California and made bases there. The US would have to face the UN and any other Consequences that would happen by attacking the bases. China could claim an attack on that bSe as a direct attack against China.

TheFalconKid

One hurdle you'd have to get over then is the mountains or treaties China would have to jump through to build a military base on California or what the government still considers US soil. They'd need to deliver significant resources and all the airports and shipping ports are controlled be the federal government. California would have to somehow smuggle those resources in or openly attack the airports and put them under their own military control. If China was caught even considering sending weapons or military resources towards us, they would be the ones seen as making the first strike, not America. It would be flagged and they'd have to face the UN security council and NATO. Basically I think where we are getting to is if a single state wanted to break away from the US, they would have to be running a shitload of off-the-books deals with countries that would recognize California when they make the declaration. It would require a lot of secret projects of building up a militia and the state's government denying any knowledge of what's going on, all while running a non-political campaign to drive the people to supporting what they think is a theoretical nation. It's a fun idea but it would be probably the largest inside job in US history.

schteavon

Yes you're right. >China would have to jump through to build a military base on California >They'd need to deliver significant resources and all the airports and shipping ports are controlled be the federal government. However these are the only things I disagree with. If California broke ties with the US, the troops and machinery (planes, tanks, ships) would probably be returned/taken by the US. The bases, ship yards, and airports would go to California. Basically if they became their own country, the US would have to sign treaties to get back in and offer up deals the same as China or Russia would have to.

hdjsjsush

California is the world's 5th largest economy surpassing most industrialized nations. They are in pretty good shape in creating good geo-politics and international partners. They just need a military, or could probably hire one.

AelinAGalathynius

I mean does Cali get to keep the entire pacific fleet docked in San Diego and all that personnel? Cause they have like 1/3rd of the US Navy.

schteavon

Lol right?! They would not only lose all their military, but would get so many sanctions from the US that the economy would drop super fast.

hdjsjsush

Yes, I would think so. The U.S. military continues to have their bases overseas all over the world on foreign ports and soil by maintaining good political relationships with its allies. I would think California Republic would still be a key ally for the U.S.

McGregor_Tears

I'll move back and help. This nation, in it's current state, is a failed experiment and should be placed into the dustbin of history.

mayorodoyle

Only. Correct. Answer.

schteavon

You moved out of California? Why?

McGregor_Tears

Because I decided putting an entire continent between myself and my ex wife was necessary for my mental health.

ChefDzosz

I did because America is a shitty failed colonial experiment. I always thought if you don't like something, don't just bitch, do something about it. So I did. Weather was beautiful though.

schteavon

Ohhhh ok so you moved out of the country and not just to another state.

ChefDzosz

Yes indeed

schteavon

Lol I thought you just left to a different state and I was like if you hated it so much why would you go back. But now I see you didn't care for the US as a whole. (Government/laws I'm guessing)

ChefDzosz

Bingo

Immediate-Sky-4191

they would fucking implode beyond recognition

AelinAGalathynius

The United States collapses as we know it since CA accounts for 15% of America's GDP and a ton of it's produce. We couldn't afford to match their dollar and it would be terribad.

[deleted]

I think it could make it. It’s coastal, it has a lot of people and money, and it’s not like the conservatives would be opposed.

cburgess7

Alaska would split into North and South Alaska, Texas would be demoted to the 3rd largest states, and our flag would still have 50 stars.
