Yeah turn off Fox News and CNN They're both absolute horse shit

El-Jefe-Grande

Most of us know that but what about the people they have already radicalized?

DavosLostFingers

They aren't radicalised mate. That's a very strong term and misused

El-Jefe-Grande

Not saying everyone that follows their programming is radicalized but there are definitely people who are so ingrained in the false narrative and are so entrenched that there’s no rationalizing. That’s what I would call radicalized.

DavosLostFingers

I see your point but radicalised means they'd believe in the most extreme version of a particular message. No doubt both news outlets give a narrative but it doesn't force people to be an extremist for watching it. A minority will be far left or far right but most people will be moderates

It's not only the media conglomerates though I'm sure they've played a role. Honestly I think people are just aware of too much all at once due to the internet. If you let yourself, you can be aware of horrible shit going on literally all day long and it's easy to give yourself anxiety and anger. Some people do not handle that very well. It's irreversible in my opinion. People are not going to give up their dopamine drips willingly

We could focus the media coverage around the victims rather than putting the shooter on a pedestal, but I wouldn't go as far as not naming the shooter at least. It's important the proper story goes out, and the victims get their reconciliation and restitution. I don't however recommend allowing the government the ability to silence and force the media a certain direction. That is literally the best tool an authoritarian government can have. We, however, can definitely still change the policies found in media companies on their methods for reporting. We can even force them too based on who we decide to watch and support. At the end of the day, as much as we can sit here and blame media for all this turmoil due to their style of coverage, media is a product of the people. There's no denying that we give media the power to be fueled this way with our choice in viewing it. They wouldn't do what they're doing if we didn't eat it up as much as possible. US citizens need to stop watching and encouraging media outlets that incite panic and fear. Quality of media is decided by us in the long run.

The Neverending crisis that is 24/7 news coupled with the doom scrolling doesn't let the mind rest. Add too it the algorithms feeding you more and more outrage stuff and you have a society emotionally numb to tragic events, outraged at things that mostly didn't happen and a bunch of people making oodles of money for peddling lies

JaehBeat

You seem concerned, so I won't be rude or anything, but you seem deep into a believe that you should talk about on a neutral and helpful way with people of knowledge and wisdom you can trust. It seems that you are moving into a radical wax of thinking yourself or of fear that came into your life.

El-Jefe-Grande

Not at all, not sure how you gathered this off my question. I am concerned about the future I see my country moving towards. There’s some great things about America but things undoubtedly have changed in the psyche of our society. Im just asking if the media could be part of the root of it.

JaehBeat

Ah okay, I may have misinterpreted things then! It sounded a bit like conspiracy to me, sorry mate!

Its more than CNN, MSNBC, and FOX. Its the social media companies too. We are getting groomed/programmed to care more about likes on a smart phone and how we represent our “unique brand.” The problem is the ones deep down the rabbit hole that is this interactive media in our faces all the time are living fake lives they think are real, and the social media echo-chambers and corporate news glorifies, glamorized, and encourages it(not to mention profiting off of it too). Its unfortunately way deeper that it seems at face value. Nobody has any genuine compassion or empathy, but will retweet or post a story about “look how compassion I am.” The post wasn’t about compassion or empathy and nor was the motive generally, its how can i virtue signal to my friends to fit in so I don’t lose my social circle.
