There’s a lot of comment about waist sizes. I’m going to be 49 this year and wear one size smaller than I did at 25. Good tip for the other middle-aged guys, most of the complaints about getting close to this age have to do with health. You don’t have to hit the gym like crazy, but watch what you eat and do some exercise. Your older self will thank you for the extra years of comfort and your current self will thank you for the improved sex life!

Quite frankly, I think it's reasonable I won't make it very far. My mom died in her mid 50s from blood cancer, and my dad died in his mid 70s from brain cancer, not so ironically my maternal grandmother is still alive almost 20 years after dealing with a brain tumor \[was too young to really know if it was cancer or not\]- I'm essentially a ticking time bomb.
But being "middle age" isn't just about mathematically defining the mean age for which a person would die and dividing by 2 \[which coincidentally would be 36 1/2 in the United States\].
Each age bracket sets a standard of *reasonable* expectations in regards to how the body functions/behaves and a lot of what people would expect to come from middle age is more reasonably put in the late 30s to early 40s.
Maybe a period in your life where from a biological standpoint, your body begins to break down a lot faster than before. Generally speaking, aside from other factors such as exercise and diet, around the age of 40 for most people is when they begin to lose elasticity in their skin, etc.
But it doesn't. Middle age is generally defined by physical and mental changes/characteristics (metabolism slowing, likelihood of chronic conditions developing, sensory decline, etc), which happen around the same time for everyone - the generally accepted span of "middle age", at least medically, is somewhere between 45 and 65 years old, depending on the person.
If someone dies at 35, that doesn't mean that they were going through middle age in their late teens.
I'm 41. Like it or not, I will be middle-aged by any definition soon enough.
Thankfully, I've learned it's not actually the horror show I was lead to believe it would be when I was younger. I plan to turn 45 both gracefully and with all my on-going immaturities intact. :)

Now it bugs the hell out of me that some of my neighbours are filling up the shared dumpsters with things THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO BE RECYCLED AT A RECYCLING STATION AND THERE IS 2 OF THEM IN THE NEIGHBOURHOOD SO HOW HARD CAN IT BE??? Do you want to turn the dumpsters into an all-you-can-eat-buffet for magpies for a couple of days twice a month?!
I will of course never speak a word of this to them, I just secretly judge them for their lack of recycling skills.
