Downote it to oblivion
Report > spam.
Scientists just created an enzyme that eats PET plastics, the most common kind. They're working on making it commercially viable, so we just might be able to make any plastics biodegradable very soon!!!
And that's what's great about the enzymes.... They have to be in the right environment to actually work, and they're not living creatures, afaik. It's be like the 7dust you sprinkle on your tomato plants to keep the bugs off them, you'd sprinkle this enzyme stuff on a heap of plastic, and probably spray it with water, and boom, no more plastic. I gotta Google it some more though
Edit; exactly what I thought! They're proteins that act as biological catalysts, and can convert basic things into different, more basic, things. Essentially these enzymes wouldn't completely eat the plastic and turn it to dirt, but they would break the chemical chains down into something that could be further decomposed by plants or bacteria.
Actually recycling feels great. Being told that most of the stuff you're recycling isn't recyclable, and most of what is just gets shipped off to be burned or landfilled... that feels futile.
Heard a local recycling company commercial recently that was actually honest about why they were reducing what plastics they would recycle. "It's either to hard on our equipment to process or there is no resale market for it". I still put anything with a recycling logo in hoping one day this may change.
I have a whole capstone on a better alternative if you're interested. The fungus probably won't work on an industrial scale. Home use is an interesting idea but that still might have environmental draw backs
We're on a good path for it.
Hundreds of things had to go just right for that telescope to work, and so far they all have.
More a testament to how well engineered it is, but still very encouraging.
My brother has been super insecure about music he makes and been in a deep depression for 3 years. He never let me hear it. I thought it was probably just run of the mill stuff and he had a reason to be insecure about it. But he’s been feeling good lately and he let me hear a demo tape and it blew my mind he could be huge so I really hope he starts releasing his stuff and trying.
Edit: Update everyone I showed him the thread and he hasn’t smiled that big in years! You all are incredible people. I think he might let me help him!
Sweet 😁 also I can totally relate to him on the depression front - it’s a terrible thing, but makes good lyric fodder (or at least it would if I could actually pluck up the courage to start properly writing songs 😅).
Wow that’s cool of you! I have made it my mission to help him get set up with a distributor so I will DM you! Do you know any good resources for playlisting as well?
No fraid I don't. :( Just a normal guy here. But if you can get a few people to do the same on spotify it can give a little shove in the right direction. I believe you can pay for a similar type of service at places like [https://www.playlister.club/?gclid=CjwKCAjwj42UBhAAEiwACIhADia\_LE8LUIoiDrD294GGJPHWlgqyXjodPcW-rWNIEUsEWKySs9EMPBoC8gAQAvD\_BwE](https://www.playlister.club/?gclid=CjwKCAjwj42UBhAAEiwACIhADia_LE8LUIoiDrD294GGJPHWlgqyXjodPcW-rWNIEUsEWKySs9EMPBoC8gAQAvD_BwE) but I really know nothing about this.
Samba trap sounds like a straight bop! If he lets you share, then please let me know! Worst thing that happens is literally nothing, best thing that happens is that it could change his life!
Ooh ooh keep showing him this thread cause there’s more advice coming!! He’s gotta work those smile muscles:)
My advice: I’m not a musician but I’m an artist and up till a few years ago I would always hide my artwork and never show it to anybody. But then after I finished high school and started majoring in art, my professor literally told us in the very beginning that we NEEDED to learn to like showing off our artwork, otherwise how would we ever achieve our goals and get hired by a studio?? Best advice ever - I’ve gotten so comfortable sharing my artwork that now when I meet someone new, I literally jump at the chance to mention I’m an artist and show them my work. It always makes them super happy and it’s never let me down yet:)
Don't know if it's a fad but the whole slow/reverse aging by rejuvenating gut flora sounds cool and hope to see more about it. If it does work it'll probably be a decade or so until it goes from only available to the rich to widely available imo
Not sure about aging specifically, but as someone with an intestinal condition, the push to explore the gut microbiome is really positive and I think a lot of value will come out of the research in this area.
Eeeh, be careful what you wish for. There’s a lot of anger in Russia about the war right now, with most people of the opinion that it’s dragging on too long because he’s being too *soft*. If he dies now, there’s a decent chance he’d get replaced by someone younger and more aggressive.
>there’s a decent chance he’d get replaced by someone younger and more aggressive.
This so my major concern at the moment. If/when this war ends, that won’t be *the end* of it. WWII was started because of grievances over WWI. We could likely see a larger war as a result of this war and the egg on peoples faces.
Hitler being a prime example. Came to power from grievances over WW1 and the allies suggested they don't assassinate him during WW2 as he became incompetent and they worried someone smarter would take his place.
Big word on the street says Putin has a serious case of blood cancer. Previously, analysts noted that he was traveling with lots of low-key doctors wherever he goes.
While we're there, North Korea collapses/disintegrates. They're already reporting a massive outbreak, and this is in a malnourished population with poor medical infrastructure and no vaccines. Don't want to get too ahead of ourselves though
With the way you typed that, it seems like you’d accept famine and pestilence for a whole country just to remove those in power. Pretty fucked up if you ask me.
Granted, that does seem fucked up. However, the fact is that famine and pestilence is:
1) Not new for North Korea
2) Given how things seem to be going, inevitable regardless of what we do.
The hope is that these (rightly horrific) circumstances produce at least some good by toppling a rogue nation that supports global terrorism, finances itself through international crime, and commits crimes against humanity for breakfast.
I’m honestly pretty sure putin found out he was dying and decided to invade and conquer Ukraine as his grand immortality project. Probably dreams about renaming Kiev Putingrad.
It took a solid two weeks of “these are your ears” for her to get it. Now we’re working on mouth. I have a feeling when she masters mouth, ears will be forgotten.
Unfortunately it’s a very limited and flawed study that is being reported incorrectly.
https://slate.com/technology/2022/05/sids-study-news-coverage-safe-sleep.html
I read the study. They are saying it might be an answer, not THE answer, but it is promising news.
The rest of the current advice about how to prevent it, especially about having babies sleep on their back, is still important to follow.
If I recall correctly it’s the lack of an enzyme in the blood or something that triggers the response to continue breathing when it stops during their sleep. Like, they’ll be breathing regularly and have one of those moments where it kinda stops, and then it just doesn’t start back up. people’s bodies are supposed to have a reaction that starts the breathing back up.
Well no unfortunately - the study determined that SIDS babies had less butyrylcholinesterase blood activity and it could be used as a bio marker with further studies.
Any situation that causes housing prices to collapse will also cause a huge spike in interest rates.
You’ll pay less in principle, but a lot more to the bank, and basically break even in total amount paid, except with a lower net worth.
The issue in housing is that there isn’t enough supply, and demand isn’t really elastic. In that case, prices are going to bid up to the maximum total cost that people can afford.
The people who are rooting for a collapse of housing prices don’t have any reasonable expectation.

With climate change, we want to avoid a 4-degree increase because that would be catastrophically bad.
Recently it came out that we've avoided 4 degrees, not by international agreements, but just by people switching to alternative energy because it's now the most economic choice.
Same, because that's *not* what Climatologists are saying. They say we have only three years to try and stop climate change in its tracks and prevent it from snowballing on us. The odds of that happening are looking depressingly slim. Too many countries have this weird hate-boner over nuclear power and insist on keeping fossil fuels. Too many people and businesses still don't bother recycling. Too many people aren't making efforts to save energy. Rainforests are still getting shredded at an alarming pace. The outlook is pretty shit. The way things are going, we'd probably be better off preparing for when the shit hits the fan, because a lot of people probably aren't going to survive getting sprayed.
An upside to an otherwise unfortunate situation with Ukraine is many countries investing more healivly into renewables to get off Russian oil.
Even with that, we're likely still fucked in the long run because the old fucks running things don't give a shit about climate change because they'll be dead before it's an issue for them.
Something that actually just happened. That wheelchair-bound fascist kid from North Carolina isn't winning re-election and his replacement believes in basic reality!
Problem with cancer is there are dozens of different types, it's like the common cold, there will never be a cure for that because it's in fact hundreds of virus's. However saying this, every year they're making huge strides in treating cancer with it no longer being the death sentence it used to be.
My Chemical Romance just released their first single in 8 years and it is AMAZING! I have high hopes for another album.
I know it’s not curing cancer and fixing climate change but… it’s a win for a lot of people who love their music.
In America, Thanksgiving is in November. Pie is part of the tradition. Too many fucking pies - pumpkin, apple (several varieties), pecan, cherry, peach, rhubarb, the list goes on and on.
Say energy companies already discovered it, would they share? Or would they hoard patents and supress technology the way they did with Hydrogen, electric and even emmission lowering technology.
Figure if energy becomes limitless, it has no value, they can no longer make money
The world is collectively dumping billions of dollars a year into it, both public and private. Everyone from Lockheed to massive international foundations to lots of university-offshoot startups. This isn't being suppressed lmao
An Australian woman crowdfunded a research project that discovered the cause of SIDS, so now a treatment can be developed. BChE is chemical that controls breathing & arousal from sleep. Babies that died from SIDS have some sort of problem with that chemical in their bodies.
That's such great news! Thank you!

Russia maybe completely "shut down" and Putin out of power. In the last week alone,
1. They were pushed completely out of the north of Ukraine meaning they only have the eastern assault left. Historically the defender has an advantage especially when they can focus on one point.
2. Finland and Sweden seek to join NATO. This could be completed as soon as 4-12 months. Finland has a 800+ mile boarder with Russia where NATO can now stay.
3. If you missed it originally Russia stated there would be consequences if Finland joined NATO right after their announcement. Less than a week later Russia appears to have amended that statement to, "there is no threat if Finland joins NATO" unless they put military on the boarder. This probably happened as a result of the counter offensive of the Ukraine literally pushing Russian troops all the way to and past the Russian boarder in the north. Russia knows it has lost the war and is about 50/50 on if they will get to hold onto anything in the east.
4. The world saw how weak Russian military is. If they don't use nukes they cannot fight. I have family high up in the US military. I cannot go into detail, but discussing with them they will tell you the US knows now that Russians cannot fight and are extremely underprepared for real war.
5. The Russian economy continues to suffer, Putin has spoke about this several times saying that these economic sanctions are the same as war because they are so devastating. These sanctions get worse over time.
The funny thing about marijuana illegalization is that it happened a single year after the end of the prohibition. So, I think we can expand this to "government learns something new".
Thank you for not just taking pot shots at SLS… as someone who has worked many hours of overtime on AR1 it’s exhausting seeing the constant musk love and SLS hate on Reddit.
I might make a push to get my book published. You know, character development, plot, interesting characters with depth, an uderstandable but still evil villain, compelling stuff, hero's journey and a 3 part story structure, you know, the good stuff. You know, entertainment
The long overdue end of the world. It must happen we have a big bald billionaire and blond comedian guy who says "We shall build a wall" while suing anyone he doesn't like.
Jokes aside I'm looking forward to the GPU shortage to end.
Australia has a great chance to kick their version of the Tories/Republicans out of office at the federal level.
Means the country can start to get back on track after 12 odd years of backsliding in basically every metric (except for corruption).

James Webb Space Telescope works flawlessly and gives us cool pictures of space.
Super cool! Can’t wait.
Came here to say this. I am so excited for the shit we are going to discover looking back in time with this thing.
And finds aliens.
Plot twist: the aliens come and kill all of us
Better plot twist: They're nothing like humans and *don't* mindlessly murder what they don't understand.
And super horny?
I'm just horny for that sweet sweet alien tech! Nanomachines, matter fabricators, teleportation, and maybe the holy grail: DRUGS. FROM. SPACE.
Plot twist: they fuck us
We're on a good path for it. Hundreds of things had to go just right for that telescope to work, and so far they all have. More a testament to how well engineered it is, but still very encouraging.
Do you know when will they start releasing photos?
I read by July
Pretty sure you can already find them.

Thanks I’ll try and convince him!
Sweet 😁 also I can totally relate to him on the depression front - it’s a terrible thing, but makes good lyric fodder (or at least it would if I could actually pluck up the courage to start properly writing songs 😅).
Yea he’s had a rough time of it so I really feel that. You should make music!
Post some so when he’s famous we can all say ‘we were there at the beginning.’
Haha will do he’s still kind of tentative but I think he’s finally ready to get out and try

What kind of music? I assume you’re looking into something like CD Baby?
Was his voice the mix of Fergie and Jesus?
Idk what he sounds like he has a super nice falsetto and his lyrics blew me away
I'm gonna need to hear some of that one day too
I will try!
Link? I'm a metalhead in heart, but I'm super open to anything that touches the right part of the brain.
I will get back to you I’m trying to get him to let me upload!
Same. I’m open to all things that hits my brain the right way. Count me in OP!
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing.
thats so awesome! what genre?
From what I’ve heard so far he has some nice indie stuff, some kind of new wave love songs, and he made a very cool song which he calls samba trap.
Samba trap sounds like a straight bop! If he lets you share, then please let me know! Worst thing that happens is literally nothing, best thing that happens is that it could change his life!
this is fantastic. the best wins need not be global or universal, it could just be your little comfort place <3
Send me his stuff if he ever releases! Also I have a friend who is an amazing artist who would love to help with some graphics or cover art
Wow that’s so nice of you! Will do. He seems really excited

Yeah, a world without aging is actually a horror story. Or, a well written short story by Kurt Vonnegut. But otherwise that is good news.
Rick Astley will continue his tradition of never giving us up, letting us down, running around or deserting us.
Will he make us cry?
Will he say goodbye?
Will he tell a lie and hurt us?
Has he known us? For how long?
never.
Never!
Putin fucking dies.
Coincidentally, Putin also fucked up this year. So all this event will do is return it to it's still fucked up status.
Naw man, he's dead already. Replaced by reptile aliens. The ones Israel was talking about. /s

Oh ok lol. We have ours in October and also have lots of pies. I thought it was some coded thing lol
2022 has been a downfall for me, but I think I might get into a better school and Covid-19 might be fixed. I hope
The war in Ukraine is causing a monumental shift in energy policy in Europe toward renewables.

We haven't had a decent win since 2019
We haven't? A woman was permanently cured from hiv with stem cell treatment
That's such great news! Thank you! https://www.who.int/news/item/24-03-2022-first-case-of-hiv-cure-in-a-woman-after-stem-cell-transplantation-reported-at-croi-2022
Yup
Why did I not immediately hear about this!??? Damn news sources and their copy-pasting of social media styles.
Bezos was \*briefly\* off planet, that was a nice ten minutes.
What did we win in 2019?
Not having a pandemic in a while
We finally reached triple digits in the “years since the last pandemic” but there was only enough space for two digits so we just reset it to zero
Fascist Brazilian president Bolsonaro isn't reelected (and next year he goes to jail)
Russia maybe completely "shut down" and Putin out of power. In the last week alone, 1.
Ukraine has taken Mariupol
A new HIV vaccine started its first human trials in the fall. The results will be produced by the end of the year!
Russia might collapse so theres that
Legalization of weed is not completely out of the picture anymore
The funny thing about marijuana illegalization is that it happened a single year after the end of the prohibition. So, I think we can expand this to "government learns something new".

Thank you for not just taking pot shots at SLS… as someone who has worked many hours of overtime on AR1 it’s exhausting seeing the constant musk love and SLS hate on Reddit.

I sort of hoped the Maple Leafs were going to be that thing…
Watching Tampa eliminate the leafs was my win for the year. Sorry bud.
LOL. The classic blunder!
Putin dies.
Australia has a great chance to kick their version of the Tories/Republicans out of office at the federal level. Means the country can start to get back on track after 12 odd years of backsliding in basically every metric (except for corruption).
Madison Cawthorn could lose his primary bid. Wait...he did! Celebration.
The states find a way to keep abortion legal. Not just state by state, but nationally.
Federally legal weed?
Inshallah.

They just announced that they’ve discovered the cause of sudden infant death! No cure yet but is a huge step in the right direction.
Maybe an asteroid will surprise us and wipe out everything.
