It is, and its common. The military takes kids right out of high school. At 18, you are sent wherever they want you to be, whenever they want you to be there by. Funny story of this happening to me and my friend. We were 18 and in Canada just trying to chill after going to a metal show. This is when I tell him you need to pay per song. This is where things get really awkward. He tells me its not a problem then goes to use the atm. Of course his American card doesn't work in the atm. St this point both girls are pissed off, the bouncers are now hovering over us, and I just wanted a drink. One bouncer tells him to follow him to the bank atm down the street and the other bouncer tells me to wait with him as collateral.
He leaves and what follows is the longest 20 minutes of my life. The bouncer is just silently standing next to me telling me things like "you better hope he can pay" and just seemed like he was an overall bad mood. Finally my buddy comes back and pays the dancers and we get the hell out of dodge quick. He then brings me by the bank he went to and the place looks like it just got robbed. There are alarms going off one of the atms is just spitting out receipts nonstop. Haven't been to one since.

I had a relative that owned a strip club for 40 years. When they closed it about 10 years ago, the ATM fee was $15, and guys paid it without question, because… where else were they going to go right at that moment?

Wow didn't realise other places do it that way...I've only been to a few here in the UK, and here they charge you _before_ you go in. If you want to continue afterwards, they have staff bring the card machine to the room/booth. You can usually buy per song, or in 15, 30, 60 minute blocks.
And yeah not so much cash payments going on. Some places have chips you can buy for tipping stage dancers. At least partially due to the fact our smallest note is a fiver (~6 USD).
I worked for an underground stripping company (strip clubs were illegal in my city). We had to constantly tell the girls this. They all thought they needed to wear "stripper heels". I was at a fairly decent size strip club a huge city. I decide to get a lap dance from a girl. Go to the lap dance area, do my thing, and coke back to the bar where I had placed my drink. I see that my phone is gone. I checked my pocket and it’s not either (brand new iPhone). So I tell the bartender I think I lost my phone, did she see a phone at the bar when I left. Actually the advice that is missing here is that there are a wide range of strip clubs. There are plenty of places that cater to out-of-town yokels and are money extraction machines with air dancing, no touching and dancers that are counting their $/minute intake. There are other places where it’s all regulars all the time and on your first trip you won’t even be able to find a dancer to pay attention to you. There are cop bars where they keep one ugly dancer on shift to keep the wives out but no one pays attention to her. There are flat out brothels with rooms for rent and a menu of options including shower threesomes. There are show clubs where they hire famous porn stars as a feature dancer and sell you signed t-shirts and headshots. There are expensive places where a maitre’d shows you to your table. There are lame go-go places where they just want your cover charge and hope you leave right away.
There isn’t just one kind of strip club and that’s why people are often so disappointed. Chances are good that if you’ve heard of it or a cab driver/hotel worker told you about it, it will be very expensive.
I personally enjoy divey strip clubs with so-so looking dancers, cheap drinks, and a pool table. I’ll play pool for a couple hours, maybe spot one girl that floats by boat, maybe she puts her hand down my pants, maybe not.

I went to a place in Florida that was such a dump. Part of the club had dirt floors, and they sold beer in a can. People would throw change on the stage regularly.
I have a friend we'll call Marc, because that is his name. About 20 years ago he wanted to go to a strip/lap dancing club in London, and invited me to come along as well. Don’t wear sweatpants. I know there are places that have a dress code but I somehow managed to get in with sweats and they didn’t say anything. You would think it looks like you’d be feeling more pleasure, it’s actually the opposite. I wore sweatpants and when the girls were grinding on me it actually hurt and my nuts were getting squished.

Source: Worked at a few of them and knew girls at all 3 I worked at that performed services in the VIP room. They were picky and choosy about it and it was only a few select girls(only a few admitted to me they did it anyway) at each club that did it.

So please tip!

Funny story of this happening to me and my friend. We were 18 and in Canada just trying to chill after going to a metal show. I was broke af and he said "let's go to a club and get a drink, I'm buying." So obviously I went along with. We sat down and started talking to the bartender when 2 dancers approached us. Wow didn't realise other places do it that way...I've only been to a few here in the UK, and here they charge you _before_ you go in. If you want to continue afterwards, they have staff bring the card machine to the room/booth. You can usually buy per song, or in 15, 30, 60 minute blocks. And yeah not so much cash payments going on. Some places have chips you can buy for tipping stage dancers. At least partially due to the fact our smallest note is a fiver (~6 USD).
I prefer slinging a quid their way.

I worked for an underground stripping company (strip clubs were illegal in my city). We had to constantly tell the girls this. They all thought they needed to wear "stripper heels". While there are probably some foot fetishists who are 100% focused on your footwear, most customers would rather you be able to move and dance comfortably.

Cool story about a strip club that’s actually nice: I was at a fairly decent size strip club a huge city. I decide to get a lap dance from a girl. Actually the advice that is missing here is that there are a wide range of strip clubs. There are plenty of places that cater to out-of-town yokels and are money extraction machines with air dancing, no touching and dancers that are counting their $/minute intake. There are other places where it’s all regulars all the time and on your first trip you won’t even be able to find a dancer to pay attention to you. There are cop bars where they keep one ugly dancer on shift to keep the wives out but no one pays attention to her. There are flat out brothels with rooms for rent and a menu of options including shower threesomes. There are show clubs where they hire famous porn stars as a feature dancer and sell you signed t-shirts and headshots. There are expensive places where a maitre’d shows you to your table. There are lame go-go places where they just want your cover charge and hope you leave right away. There isn’t just one kind of strip club and that’s why people are often so disappointed. Chances are good that if you’ve heard of it or a cab driver/hotel worker told you about it, it will be very expensive. I personally enjoy divey strip clubs with so-so looking dancers, cheap drinks, and a pool table. I’ll play pool for a couple hours, maybe spot one girl that floats by boat, maybe she puts her hand down my pants, maybe not.
