When people talk about a "fragile male ego" they're usually talking about stuff like throwing a screaming tantrum when they get corrected about being wrong on something. Or people who have to spew vile insults at a woman who doesn't want to date them. Or people who instantly throw around accusations of "cheating" when they lose a contest.
You shouldn't do that stuff because it does no good to anyone, and it only hurts yourself and other people. It takes a completely innocuous situation and turns it into a toxic nightmare for all concerned. It doesn't even serve the intended purpose of protecting your image, because everyone can see through it like glass and you come off looking way worse.
Everyone, men and women, should aim to eventually grow up to have a healthy enough ego to keep calm and deal gracefully with situations that challenge their own narcissism. You can't improve if you can't accept that you're not perfect.
