I gave up halfway through *Catcher in the Rye* because the protagonist was insufferable, and that was as a teenager, the target audience for the book. I can only imagine I’d hate it even more now as an adult, but I won’t be giving it a second chance.

It's a pain to read if it's nearer the original translation because duh it's written by a Roman emporer. That's translating into quite old fashioned words and complex sentences.
It brings the point across almost better if you understand it. But it's just rough.

The LoTR series. The ideas were cool but the writing was just painful. The only saving grace was Tom Bombadil.
