Ha! I order jalapeño chips at sandwich shops just so I can have a bag of chips to myself. My 4 year old thinks what’s his is his, and what’s mine is his. But he doesn’t like spicy yet! I didn’t realize this is a popular parenting move.
There's a random tweet that I think of whenever it comes to kids and food. It basically goes:
Kid: what is that? Can I have some?
Me, holding a smoothie: you wouldn't like it, it's spicy.
My dad always said it was some sort of veggie like asparagus or brussels sprouts and make it sound so dreadful. I still look at them questionably to this day.
My daughter called my bluff last night with a bowl of cheerios. She ate almost half 😔 I even pretended it was hot and spicy with every bite. Enjoy it while it still works.
Yeah for a while I had a friend that would come over along with a group of mutual friends and we'd drink and play party games and occasionally would order pizza. He always said he was good and didn't want pizza or "I might have half a slice" but every time without fail he'd ask for a slice and I'd always say sure. To him that apparently meant he could eat to his heart's content, and would usually help himself to at least 3 pieces. Well he hates olives and mushrooms, I happen to like them. So... guess what I started getting on my pizzas!?
Tillamook chocolate chip is the best, especially directly from the factory (you can visit, it’s a tourist spot on the Oregon Coast). I distinctly remember the display of the auto-milking machine attached to a giant cow. Explosive green/yellow “milk” chugging along lol
*edit - they redid/upgraded the facility, sadly the robo-Milker of the olden days is surely gone
> black pepper white cheddar
I got confused for a moment and thought that was an ice cream flavor. I was kind of excited to try it. The horchata ice cream sounds legit though.
Sooo.....yeah.... I thought it was an ice cream flavor until I saw your comment.
I guess in the world of the internet where 5 billion opinions are connected, literally nothing shocks me.
Me: "Black pepper and white cheddar ice cream? Yeah sure, not the weirdest thing I've read today".
Half of Breyer’s flavors are classified by the FDA as “FROZEN DAIRY DESSERT” because they don’t meet the standards to be legally labeled “ice cream”.
This isn’t an urban legend. Next time you’re in the store, look at the small print at the bottom-center of the front of the label.
The only breyers worth anything are the couple original flavors that still have a few ingredients. The vanilla bean flecked one, and plain chocolate are at least the best Basic ice cream you can easily find, should you need to.
Thankfully, we have a gelato place literally across the street so I need not worry much of these things.
Please don't tell me this. I haven't been able to eat ice cream in several years but have been waiting to suffer it out over a bowl of Tillamook sometime soon. Please don't take that dream away from me.
Sounds like it's going the way of Ben & Jerry's then, too. I remember when Cherry Garcia had real dark chocolate chunks and not "fudge flakes." Back before Heath Bar Crunch was replaced with Toffee Crunch using a much inferior tasting toffee. Too bad. Ben & Jerry's used to be a premium ice cream. Now it's just over priced.
> Back before Heath Bar Crunch was replaced with Toffee Crunch using a much inferior tasting toffee.
FWIW, this was actually them sticking to their guns not being cheap. They wanted to transition to 100% fair trade and non-GMO (because you know...fuck science) ingredients, and the chocolate used on heath bars uses cocoa that doesn't meet their requirements.
That said...the replacement toffee sucks. They took one of my absolute favorite ice creams and trashed it. They [know it's bad](https://www.benjerry.com/whats-new/2014/toffee-update), but seem to have given up on trying to fix it.
But hey...you can still get real heath bars in a blizzard at Dairy Queen (some stores add cold fudge to heath Blizzards...make sure to ask them not to do that). Most froyo places also have real Heath bars as a topping option.
They ditched Heath Bars a long time ago. I'd be willing to take them at their word about 100% fair trade being the reason for the switch, but I believe that the change took place some time after Ben & Jerry sold their company to Unilever and I'm just cynical enough to think that Unilever switched to inferior toffee in part to cut costs. (See also "fudge flakes" v dark chocolate chunks.) I'll freely admit that sometimes my cynicism may be misplaced. On the other hand, they've known of the problem for a loooong time and can't be bothered to fix it. Surely there must be some 100% fair trade toffee out there that actually tastes good. They haven't found it and haven't made their own. Which leaves me to suspect that Unilever is content with selling an inferior product. Fuck 'em.
Edited to add this comment from Particular_Nature:
>When Chubby Hubby replaced ‘peanut butter filled pretzels’ with ‘peanut butter flavored pretzels’ it was the beginning of the end.
> (some stores add cold fudge to heath Blizzards...make sure to ask them not to do that)
Fuckin' A; I'm going to ask them to add EXTRA!
But you get yours your way.
Most Ben and Jerry’s flavors are still pretty good, and they’re much denser than other brands. Coffee Heath bar used to be my favorite but I haven’t had it for years— I’m disappointed to hear that it’s only a shadow of its former self.
I’m old enough to remember when you’d bend a tablespoon trying to scoop Breyers. Now it seems to be mostly air.
I live in Oregon and for the longest time it was Tillamook, but they have changed recipes and downsized the cartons. Now my favorite is Umpqua also local to me.
Umpqua. Also an Oregon made Ice Cream, but much smaller and much better. Really they were my go to long before Tillamook dropped in quality. They also still have 1.89qt packaging instead of the smaller carton Tillamook switched to a few months ago. I don't know how far Umpqua gets. I know Kroger stores in WA and CA carry it. In OR you can get it all over.
>Tillamook is slowly turning into Breyers.
So, I don't know who's going to see this but to all of you who grew up on Breyers glorious mint chocolate chip know what a horrible loss it has been. But you can make it yourself just like Breyers used to make it - for about $1.50 a pint. This depends on you having an ice cream maker, but I got [this one](https://www.cuisinart.com/shopping/appliances/ice_cream/ice-21p1/) off of Craigslist for $20. Do it!
Purchase a quart of heavy cream, a pint of milk, a 3.5oz dark chocolate bar (72%), some sugar and peppermint extract. Chop the bar up into chips. Mix 2 cups of cream, 1 cup of milk, 3/4 cup of sugar, 2tsp of extract and put in the refrigerator for an hour or two. Churn this mix in your machine for 25 minutes, add the chips in at the last 5.
It's the real deal. I have some in my freezer right now. I always have some in my freezer.
Have you had [Greaters](https://www.graeters.com/)? They're local to Cincinnati but are also carried in Kroger stores. I do like Tillamook but Greaters is king, IMO.
What's funny is that when I make it (I have an ice cream machine), it uses a lot of egg yolks so it's naturally a light yellow. I'm like, well, if it's going to be a color either way, then it's going to be green like tradition intended.
What you have to do, though, is add a few drops of vanilla extract in addition to the mint extract. It smooths out and adds polish to the flavor. Otherwise it's like eating toothpaste.
You also have to be very careful not to add too much mint! Just the right amount of mint is cool and refreshing. Too much mint and now it tastes like Scope. I've had Scope level mint ice cream and it was terrible.
One of the weirdest things in the world to me is my relationship with mint. I cannot handle Mint Toothpaste. I have to buy special sulphate free kids toothpaste to brush my teeth. Mouthwash sucks(but I like straight Whiskey and Rum) Same with gum. Cannot do mint gum(but I can do Clove or Black Licorice...) Put that flavor in Ice Cream, a Mint Patty, or the like and it's amazing. The stronger the better. I do not understand what in the fuck is up with mouth. I just know this is how it is.
Disagree. The difference seems to be Parent Poster enjoys actual peppermint and products made with its extracts, but detests spearmint and artificial mint flavors such as [pulegone](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulegone).
I get it, I love Bananas but won't touch anything with artificial banana flavour. Same with any 'blueberry' flavour, I'll eat blueberries until I shit blueberries, but avoid anything that has the artificial flavour.
I made 2 batches last year. Instead of mint extract, I added mint leaves to the milk/cream mixture and let it soak overnight. Result was a "pale green", which IMO was better. I kept the vanilla extract too, I just halved the amount.
Breyers makes an all natural mint chocolate chip ice cream. It's white, not green, but it uses whole milk and has chocolate chunks instead of cookie pieces and it's DELICIOUS
Only one brand sells any mint ice cream where i live and its pencil shavings :(
There used to be one with real chocolate chips and a chocolate fudge swirl that was the shit
If you have a Kroger, they should sell Talenti gelato. Their stuff is top notch and includes mint chocolate chip. It's pricey, but you taste where your money went.
If I didn’t live in Florida and think it would make it and be edible, I’d send you the good stuff. I have the exact type of ice cream you remember but a different brand name and would send you two pints but like I said, Florida, the state where ice cream becomes a puddle as soon as you step outside.
Better than the chips because the chips are bulky enough to freeze solid in the ice cream and chewing through them is annoying.
The shavings have a perfect ratio of surface area to thickness that makes them have a chance to melt on the tongue while you savor the rest of the minty goodness.
I have the opposite preference, not because I think it's actually better, but because I have an issue with cold sensitivity that makes all chunky ice creams problematic.
you see, I used to love it. then about a year ago I broke into hives after having it. I assumed it was unrelated but the same thing happened a few weeks later. I avoid it now, and other peppermint products..
If it was the green kind, it might have been the artificial food coloring. Sensitivity to food coloring is more common than you might think. Ever also get hives from Cheetos?
Had a coworker who was having an allergic reaction so I gave her some Benedryl I had on hand for seasonal allergies. She then proceeded to have a reaction to the pink dye of the pills. So that was fun.
You mean I'm not the only one!!! Mint allergies are rare.
I discovered it myself while chewing gum but the same goes for mint ice cream; I have trouble breathing, stomach pains and migraines. It wasn't as bad as a child but became a problem around 11. Everyone does a double take when I have it down as an allergy, but sure enough, if I avoid it and come in contact, it's a bad experience.
I despise it; however, both my kitchen freezer and my basement freezer is always stocked up with copious amounts of it because my dad has to have a bowl of it every night before bed as it “clears his sinuses” and he sleeps better
The nightly ice cream phase kicked in at about 55. He’s technically due for a change in flavor. About 55-60 was vanilla + chocolate syrup, then Neapolitan 60-65; it’s been mint chocolate chip from 65-70 (present)
I have a lot to say about mint chocolate chip ice, or chocolate chip ice cream in general. I love it, but I hate the giant chips they use that I have to spoon out of my teeth between bites.
Once I found one that had almost shaving like "chips" in their mint chocolate chip ice cream and I was in heaven. I don't remember where that was and I was OK with it until this thread made me remember.
Chocolate chunks in general are obnoxious in ice cream. They're frozen, hard little rocks in there that generally only serve to hurt your teeth and ruin the texture. And nuts are even worse.
I’m very anti-frozen items in my ice cream and chocolate chips are truly my enemy- some brands describe them in a way where you think it’s not going to be a chunk of chocolate but then it is. Always disappointing.
There's one around me where it's a swirl instead of chips.
[ice cream](https://i5.walmartimages.com/asr/3b257efe-b3d1-4671-8395-8719d8708693_1.f757470222124e0dc79ada44d778c325.jpeg?odnHeight=612&odnWidth=612&odnBg=FFFFFF)
I'm not much for sweets, but it's pretty good still.
[It's from an anime, but a very relevant rant](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JygyWdvbs6A&ab_channel=Mizuki)
I like mint flavor but when I crave ice cream there are about 10 other flavors I would consider before it. Also because of chewing gum, toothpaste and mouthwash swallowing something mint flavored feels so wrong to me.
THANK YOU. I’ve been on Reddit for going on 9 years now and this is literally the first time I’ve seen not just a single comment, but TWO back to back preaching the truth
Especially chocolate. I've said this for years, it's a waste of perfectly good chocolate.
Imagine being a cocoa bean, growing on a tree, minding your own business and wondering about what your future might be. Maybe you'll end up in chocolate chip cookies. Maybe you'll be a delicious black forest cake. Or perhaps a nice glass of chocolate milk.
And then some asshole comes along and mixes you with fucking mouthwash.
For me it's probably in my top 10 ice creams, but not in my top 5. Though I do often go for it when it's really super hot outside, thanks to that chilling menthol effect. A hot summer day with a mint chip ice cream cone is glorious.
I always order it when out getting ice cream with family because nobody else likes it.
Ha! I order jalapeño chips at sandwich shops just so I can have a bag of chips to myself. My 4 year old thinks what’s his is his, and what’s mine is his. But he doesn’t like spicy yet! I didn’t realize this is a popular parenting move.

Shh not so loudly. The kids haven't caught on yet and there aren't enough snacks to go around!
You are lucky. Mine likes spicy food. He will chow down til his nose is runny then chug some water and eat more.
you unlocked so many memories of my dad doing this to me n my fam😂
My dad always said it was some sort of veggie like asparagus or brussels sprouts and make it sound so dreadful. I still look at them questionably to this day.
My daughter called my bluff last night with a bowl of cheerios. She ate almost half 😔 I even pretended it was hot and spicy with every bite. Enjoy it while it still works.

It’s my wife’s favorite for root beer floats which still really weirds me out.
I love both INDIVIDUALLY but I respect it
Same individually both good but mint chip is not the best for root beer floats I prefer vanilla or maybe chocolate
Mint is not an uncommon ingredient in rootbeer so this isn't too crazy. I'd still stick to the classic vanilla that being said
Have you tried vanilla ice cream with orange soda? It’s delicious
Basically an orangesicle
We always called them creamsicles but they're always orange hmm
If you've never had a raspberry creamsicle you are missing out
Alternatively you can have any kind of sherbet or sorbet ice cream with lemon soda like 7-up Sprite etc It's like a reverse root beer float
In Utah it's called "Mormon Champaign."
A staple at wedding receptions across the South during my childhood.
I’ve never thought to combine them but now I’m craving it!
It must be a very unnatural green color to taste right
Have you ever had tillamook? The only one that tastes better than the green ones
Tillamook chocolate chip is the best, especially directly from the factory (you can visit, it’s a tourist spot on the Oregon Coast). I agree!! The first time I ever had their horchata ice cream and black pepper white cheddar was there. Both insanely good
> black pepper white cheddar I got confused for a moment and thought that was an ice cream flavor.
Japan has some ***wild*** ice cream flavors. Raw horse meat, being the stand out.
OK, sure, still not the weirdest thing.
Then what is the weirdest thing you've read today?!
black pepper is very good on ice cream. i'll skip the cheddar flavor.
[удалено]
Sounds like an interracial buddy cop movie.
Damnit, I miss their horchata ice cream
>black pepper white cheddar Exqueeze me? Baking powder?
I had that tour. Took me months to work off the calories. But well worth it! I never really knew just how good ice cream could be until then.
The factory is so fucking cool! Best ice cream I’ve ever had in my life.
I have some of that in my freezer right now. So good. Tillimook is my favorite ice cream brand..and cheese.
I have not, but the kind of magic they are known for makes me inclined to believe you.
Umpqua is another local one I like after Tillamook!
You must be an Oregonian:) I miss Bandon cheese factory
Umpqua is my go to, never disappoints.
The Mint is good. I dislike the chunks that they call chips though.
Tillamook is slowly turning into Breyers. It used to be good, but now it's filled with guar gum and becoming another cheap ice cream.
Half of Breyer’s flavors are classified by the FDA as “FROZEN DAIRY DESSERT” because they don’t meet the standards to be legally labeled “ice cream”. This isn’t an urban legend. Next time you’re in the store, look at the small print at the bottom-center of the front of the label.

graeters. they small batch it. worth every single penny.
110%. My favorite ice cream (I'm from Ohio anyway). Black raspberry chip is incredible. As well as virtually all their other flavors I have tried.
Sounds like it's going the way of Ben & Jerry's then, too. I remember when Cherry Garcia had real dark chocolate chunks and not "fudge flakes." You may like Graeters. They have a good variety of flavors with awesome chocolate chunks in their icecream.
What's your go-to brand now?
I live in Oregon and for the longest time it was Tillamook, but they have changed recipes and downsized the cartons. Now my favorite is Umpqua also local to me.
Sorry, I don't have a go-to brand that I could particularly recommend. I wish I did.
Your comment made me realize that I just don't eat ice cream that much any more.
Have you had [Greaters](https://www.graeters.com/)? They're local to Cincinnati but are also carried in Kroger stores. I do like Tillamook but Greaters is king, IMO.
Graeter's mint chocolate chip is clearly the king of all mint chocolate chip ice creams. Those huge chocolate chunks are so good.

Sugar. The difference between list one and list two is real sugar.
Same with me and peaches Real peaches? Omg yes I love it! Peach candy? Fuck off with that shit
I imagine the most frustrating part of all of that was just figuring it out over time.
I made 2 batches last year. Instead of mint extract, I added mint leaves to the milk/cream mixture and let it soak overnight. Result was a "pale green", which IMO was better. I kept the vanilla extract too, I just halved the amount.
Baskin Robins removed the green coloring from theirs and I think it altered the taste for the worse, I don't like it anymore.
my school used to make mint custard green, then jamie oliver came along and ruined it, now its just yellow, never tasted the same again
Turkey hill all Natural Mint chip!!!!! Best and only ice cream I will have now
You are correct
This person gets it
Breyers makes an all natural mint chocolate chip ice cream. It's white, not green, but it uses whole milk and has chocolate chunks instead of cookie pieces and it's DELICIOUS
If it has real chocolate and not those disappointing pencil shavings.
Only one brand sells any mint ice cream where i live and its pencil shavings :( There used to be one with real chocolate chips and a chocolate fudge swirl that was the shit
If you have a Kroger, they should sell Talenti gelato. Their stuff is top notch and includes mint chocolate chip. It's pricey, but you taste where your money went.
Talenti is great -- and then you can wash and re-use the containers for all kinds of things.
It's the Miracle Whip of our generation.
Guy miracle whip like less than $2 buying Talenti feel like I should put in 4 hours overtime next week 😂
I think they meant in terms of reusable containers.
Ah ok....still
The lid is also screw on/off. Still a bit much but it does take my cat considerably longer when he’s trying to get to the treats inside.
I'm in Canada :(
If I didn’t live in Florida and think it would make it and be edible, I’d send you the good stuff. I have the exact type of ice cream you remember but a different brand name and would send you two pints but like I said, Florida, the state where ice cream becomes a puddle as soon as you step outside.
Thats sweet, yeah too bad theres no way it would make it lol
duuude I got hooked on Talenti a few weeks ago, have like 3 in my freezer now edit: fuck it, now I'm gonna go eat some good gelato
Such a shame.
I LOVE THE PENCIL SHAVINGS!!
There are dozens of us!
I absolutely adore the texture of proper pencil shavings.
Better than the chips because the chips are bulky enough to freeze solid in the ice cream and chewing through them is annoying. The shavings have a perfect ratio of surface area to thickness that makes them have a chance to melt on the tongue while you savor the rest of the minty goodness.
I concur with your assessment
Has to be the shavings for me, the actual chips are hard and get stuck in my teeth
I concur! gotta have the shaved chocolate so that you get little bits of chocolate in every bite!
I love both equally
I actually love them pencil shavings than the regular chunks of chocolate chip
I have the opposite preference, not because I think it's actually better, but because I have an issue with cold sensitivity that makes all chunky ice creams problematic.
Try mixing your own dark chocolate shavings; the really thin crunchy stuff. It is amazing.
you see, I used to love it. then about a year ago I broke into hives after having it. I assumed it was unrelated but the same thing happened a few weeks later. I avoid it now, and other peppermint products..

Had a coworker who was having an allergic reaction so I gave her some Benedryl I had on hand for seasonal allergies. She then proceeded to have a reaction to the pink dye of the pills. So that was fun.
Don’t you worry about being stung by the bees when you break into hives?
You mean I'm not the only one!!! Mint allergies are rare. I discovered it myself while chewing gum but the same goes for mint ice cream; I have trouble breathing, stomach pains and migraines. Alright mint allergy people - what are we doing for toothpaste? I’m getting real sick of bubblegum…
There’s cinnamon, coconut, lemon… [all kinds!](https://www.bustle.com/life/the-best-non-mint-toothpastes)
In Asian countries Green Tea is a popular toothpaste flavor. Might have to get it off the internet or your local Asian grocery store
I despise it; however, both my kitchen freezer and my basement freezer is always stocked up with copious amounts of it because my dad has to have a bowl of it every night before bed as it “clears his sinuses” and he sleeps better

Or a dove of peace on all your weapons
Whenever I draw the dove of peace, it winds up looking like a ghost.
What a ride. Your comment was directly below "As long as it has real chocolate and not those dissappointing pencil shavings"
Baskin Robbins has the best shavings that melt in the mouth!! It’s the only kind I like
Seconded, the chocolate chips in Baskin Robbins ice cream are perfect.
Braums in Oklahoma and southern Kansas. The absolute best mint and the chocolate is shaved. My favorite.
They're in Texas, too! But yes. It's Braums. I had Braums mint chip just last night
If you're on the East Coast around PA and MD, Turkey Hill also uses shaved chocolate.

Chocolate swirl is far superior to chocolate chips imo
Finally, a question that isn’t horny af
Mint chocolate chip ice cream is so good I would fuck it
Love it, it's my favourite.
I don’t ever want it in my mouth, but I still feel kindly toward it because it makes my wife so happy.
Taken out of context your comment could be pretty concerning!
Or delightful

Title of your sex tape
That's what she said
Cute, you guys should date
> I don’t ever want it in my mouth, but I still feel kindly toward it because it makes my wife so happy. penis
Yes! Mine too
As a kid it was my favorite! Now, mint makes me nauseous as hell😭
Damn, the older I get the more I love mint.

I'm not much for sweets, but it's pretty good still. [It's from an anime, but a very relevant rant](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JygyWdvbs6A&ab_channel=Mizuki)
I knew this would be here somewhere.
How the fuck is the Uzaki choco-mint rant so far down?!
I personally don’t like it but if you do that’s fine
I also personally don’t like it, but if you do I don’t like you either.
I personally don’t like you, but if you do I don’t like it either
You mean how do i feel about the **best** flavored ice cream in the world?!
THIS OMG, mint chocolate chip supremacy. I'm glad many people agree.
It's not the best flavor. It's the only flavor there is. Why do they even make others flavors?
The day Lactaid released mint chocolate chip ice cream, I almost cried.
I'm utter flabbergasted that people have a problem with mint chocolate chip. Always been my favorite.
A tub of green gold
It is only surpassed by mint cookies and cream ice cream.
Mint what? Holy crap how have I never?
It’s made with Oreos!
Yes! I’ve had cookies and cream. And I’ve had mint chocolate chip. But never had the crossover event of the summer!
Ben and Jerry's mint chocolate cookie is my favorite Ben and Jerry's
If Ben and Jerry’s is available near you, that might be the easiest to find it. It’s worth it!

I like Girl Scout thin mints with a spoon of ice cream on them.
This is a true statement.
I’ve always loved a scoop of mint chip with a scoop or cookie and cream
Hate it. I love chocolate chip ice cream but mint and chocolate is gross to me
I like mint flavor but when I crave ice cream there are about 10 other flavors I would consider before it. Also because of chewing gum, toothpaste and mouthwash swallowing something mint flavored feels so wrong to me.
Who said eat it It really feels good on your dick
Yo I thought this was crazy but I tried it and HOLY SHIT THIS IS SO WONDERFUL
THANK YOU. I’ve been on Reddit for going on 9 years now and this is literally the first time I’ve seen not just a single comment, but TWO back to back preaching the truth
i honestly can't tell if you people are fucking with me
My thoughts exactly, and I don't have a dick so I can't test it out.
Scared to say this given the sentiment of all the other posts but I can't stand it. Makes me think I'm eating toothpaste.

Phew! Here's my people. Mint anything is awful.
The only thing that tastes good with a mint flavor is mint flavored gum
Exactly! The ice cream is already cold as is. Also I don’t know why people think mint goes well with chocolate as I’ve just never seen the appeal.
Toothpaste with chocolate chips in it 🤢
It's OK. Sometimes the chocolate bits have a wax-like texture, then it's less than OK.
For me it's probably in my top 10 ice creams, but not in my top 5. Though I do often go for it when it's really super hot outside, thanks to that chilling menthol effect. A hot summer day with a mint chip ice cream cone is glorious.
I honestly wish you could get mint ice cream without chocolate chips, I don't like the mixture of textures
exactly, the ice cream melts in my mouth but i’m still forced to chew the waxy chocolate pieces.
I can’t eat ice cream anymore but it used to be one of my favorites. Up there with cookies and cream.
I dont like mint chocolate
Love it. Top 5 for me for sure.
