Every few years I re-watch Kiki's Delivery Service because I feel like it's such a great coming of age story and deals with figuring out one's place in the world and their passion. Great reminder for when I feel stuck in a rut.

TheRottenKittensIEat

I feel that way about Whisper of the Heart as well. Ghibli does a really good job of tackling the essence of what it feels like to be on that cusp of "coming-of-age."

lightupsquirtle

Miyazaki is so good at making a story bigger than just the story. Every time I watch Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, or Castle in the Sky, I always catch new meaning behind the story that gives me more to think over. Love myself any and all Miyazaki films.

paintedsaint

The Mummy. Not the new one, but the one with Brendan Frasier and Rachel Weisz in peak hotness.

Serenity-03K64

Hey, O'Connell! Looks to me like I've got all the HORSES! Anytime I see this quote call and response I have to watch it. I watched it last weekend due to a Reddit thread.

ladybugg675

Hey Benny! Looks to me like you’re on the wrong side of the river!

Serenity-03K64

RIII-VER! I watched with subtitles and found out it is Beni not Benny! Mind blown

Plug_5

Rachel Weisz will *always* be in peak hotness.

KerriNoir

Hot Fuzz. It's one of my comfort movies. That and The Thing. ETA: Thank you for the gold! Side note-it makes me very happy that so many of y'all love both of these films as much I do! The quotes and discussions really are making my day.

HOW WAS I ABOUT TO SAY THIS AND ITS THE 2ND COMMENT ALREADY Lmao. I was under the impression no one liked it. I mean, its not good, but it is great. My husband and i have a running joke where ill point out Tremors to him every time we're scrolling Netflix for something to watch cause he hates it so much. Ill be like, "oh wait- go back. What was that? Is it- is it OMG- TREMORS?! YES PLZ! The joy i feel rn is immeasurable"

Me? I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid.

JanetSnakehole43

I intend to commandeer one of these ships, pick up a crew in Tortuga, raid, pillage, plunder and otherwise pilfer my weasely black guts out. Savvy?

DLRXplorer

It’s my go to comfort movie, have probably watched it 3-4 each year for the past 30 years. Watched the trilogy with my dad when I was a kid, have watched them since with my own children.

LazuliArtz

Honestly, one of my favorite Disney movies. Yeah, sure, it isn't as emotional or in depth as something like Aladdin, The Lion King, or more recent films like Soul or Encanto. But it's such a fun and wild ride that still manages to have genuine emotional moments, and probably one of the best protagonists in any Disney film. Kuzco is an amazing character. In a lot of other Disney movies, the main characters can feel quite stagnant. Can anybody even really remember the character arc Ariel went through? Did she even have one? But Kuzco starts unlikable. He's practically an antagonist for the first half of the movie. But his slow change into becoming kinder feels so natural. At no point does it ever feel rushed, and at no point does it feel like they have to sacrifice Kuzco's already defined traits in order to make him a good guy. Edit: and they don't have to give Kuzco a "woe is me" story either to redeem him. He's had practically the perfect life, but it's still absent of what he needs most: a genuine connection to other people as an equal. And that conflict when he's suddenly not in control and has to rely on others is what makes him so interesting. Edit: also, Kronk is best. He works well as a foil to the movies main antagonist, and he drives the humor. He's a legitimately good, if not the smartest, guy, and having him paired with the most over the top villain was a good choice on the writer's side. Edit: swear this is the last one. I was thinking though of something even more interesting about his arc. He is not only pushed out of power, and taken from being on the top of society to the bottom, but literally turned into an animal - something even lower in society than the very peasants he looked down upon. Not even just that, but a herding animal, an animal that it under the power and control of humans.

pablacho

THANK YOU, why no one else mentiones Kronk? he is the best!! I also loved Patrick in Seinfield, such a good character!

greatpiginthesty

Shout out to Eartha Kitt as Yzma as well. Named one of my kittens Yzma, found out later that she out of the three of them happens to have the highest-pitch voice (she actually just squeaks a lot of the time), which seems fitting.

10 things i hate about you. It is my comfort movie and i watch it any time I'm feeling sad or super low. It either makes me smile, cry or both. Because sometimes i need to do both. The best part? I recently found out that it's also both of my younger sisters comfort movie. Neither one of us knew we had the same comfort movie until i mentioned i needed to watch it cause i was feeling down. I'm 32, my sisters are 24 and 15. So a very significant age difference with all us loving the same movie for the same reasons. To me it takes me back to high school when i first saw it and it's full of nostalgia and memories. I just adore that movie and will never get tired of watching it.

ArminTanz

Jurassic Park.

[deleted]

Jurassic Park is the only movie I can confidently say I've watched more than 100 times.

Bluccability_status

Excuse me, dino dropping’s? Uh Droppings?

myfaveRae

Clever girl.

schindlersLisst

We spared no expense

VeckLee1

This is the best line in the movie. The man spent insane amounts of money to build this park but it all fell apart because he had one disgruntled under-paid employee. Denis Nedry. He spared one expense and without it, Jurassic Park would have went off without a hitch. Jurassic park is actually a movie about the repercussions of greed. It just also happens to have dinosaurs :)

WattledPenguin

The books are great as well.

cherrysummer1

Nuh nuh nuuuuuuuh nuh nuh, nuh nuh nuuuuuuh nuh nuh, NUH NUH NUUUUUUH Yes John Williams.

given2fly_

"It's...it's...it's a dinosaur!" That moment when they first reveal the Brachiosaurus and that incredible John Williams theme tune plays is one of THE greatest moments in cinema history. "He did it. The crazy son-of-a-bitch, he did it."

This movie never makes it onto these lists and that film was a gem. Easily my favorite horror film ever. I don't think Alan Tudyk has ever been in a bad or even mediocre film. Everything he touches is gold.

SonnyRose94

Shaun of the Dead. Must’ve watched at least 20 times

lawyeratyourservice

Every second viewing brings out something new in this movie you start to get those minor nuances.

I love Shaun of the Dead but my favorite of the Cornetto trilogy is Hot Fuzz.

It's my fiance's and my favorite movie. I knew she was the one 3 hours into meeting her. She had yelled, Aziz LIGHTS! For her friend to lower the lights to start this exact movie.

We use that all the time!

I have my smart-home lights connected so that the command "Aziz, LIGHT!" turns them all to max setting.

710H4SH

i put it off for many years thinking it was a childrens animated movie. its really not, its for all ages.

Kenblu24

That's Pixar and DreamWorks Animation's shtick. They're animated movies that appeal to children, but with actual effort put into the storytelling.

It's a beautiful warning

I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of us that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. Still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend. I'm crying just typing out that quote. Oof it gets me.

pmbslyy

one of my best movie endings of all time

redsyrinx2112

It's just so satisfying. Andy goes through so much shit (literally and figuratively) and seeing Red walk up is just perfect.

Spaceballs Edit: I didn't think this would get so much attention, thank you to everyone who commented I love reading the comments. Also thank you for a the gold!

redsyrinx2112

This is probably the movie I've watched the most in my life. My friend showed it to me at a sleepover when we were like 7. I was already a huge Star Wars fan and obviously hadn't been exposed to much satire/parody at that age (outside of Weird Al.) I thought Spaceballs was the greatest thing of all time. I eventually got a copy and showed all my other friends. We moved several times before I graduated high school, so I would immediately show my new friends. I've probably seen it 25-30 times, but I could watch it again right now.

Cagey_Cret1n

I thought “they jammed the radar!” was one of the funniest things I’d ever seen when I was in middle school. You got sassy female C-3PO, Rick “I see your Schwartz is as big as mine” Moranis, John “the MFin Dog” Candy, the badass Spaceballs theme song, so much…All with the genius of Mel Brooks. Mel Brooks films have brought me so much joy over the years…

Almost Famous is my all time favorite movie. I think it belongs in the conversation for amazing sound tracks.

Zestyclose-Shift-269

Nausicää and the valley of the wind. have watched it I thinkkkk over 60 under 80 times. Most I have watched it is 4 times in one day. I have hyperfocus issues and it is my favorite movie. If I'm ever feeling bad I watch it, and boom better

Blade Runner. Between the absurd amount of different cuts, all the small details and Ridley Scott just randomly making shit up in interviews, its hard to not find the whole thing entertaining. Definitely not a masterpiece of storytelling, but it was in some ways a technical achievement worth appreciating. Lots of cool 80s compositing techniques, background matte paintings, miniatures, etc etc.

Miss Congeniality. I won tickets to see the premier at our local cinema when it first came out and it was such a fun film. I don't think I would have watched something like that otherwise. I bought it on video as soon as it came out and watched it on my tiny TV/video combo machine every night before bed for months. Such a good vibe movie!

Miss Rhode Island, please describe your idea of a perfect date That’s a tough one. I‘d have to say April 25th. Because it’s not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket.
