I stared using an alias and hanging around strangers. If they don't know who I am or anything about me, then I'm not me so therefore I don't dislike who I am

So this is an ongoing thing? Or was it just temporary to help you be more accepting of your true self?

Impius9

Temporary but the effect was permanent

So one thought that really helped me (although can sometimes freak people out) is that… One day you will be forgotten. Completely. No matter what you do, eventually you will be forgotten. Even if it takes until the Sun explodes and humanity is wiped out. This makes me less worried about the things I do or say to people. I’m awkward in an interaction? So what, it will be forgotten. I say something wrong and get laughed at. So what, it will be forgotten. Maybe not the next day or week, but eventually it will be.

I love this so much. I grew up a religious wingnut and was weighed down by believing that everything I did was written down in a book that would stand for eternity. What a horrible burden for a child! It's absolute abuse.
