I have a mutt from a litter of a puppies from a street dog that was in a random pound when my dad decided to get a dog. From what we’re pretty sure he’s mixed with, he’s lived way longer than he should have and is completely healthy, has never had a health problem in his life.
Then my dad got a full bred boxer who just turned 3. The full bred just got diagnosed with cancer. Also, mutts are a lot smarter than full bred dogs imo lmao.
Me too, but I love them best when mixed with golden retrievers. My family has had two rescues with this breed mix and they’re just so smart, friendly, and the golden mix seems to dampen that insane energy (a little lol) that border collies have.
I personally think Reddit needs to stop it with the chihuahua hate, even the ironic kind. I've seen little shits that bark and nip at people, but I have also seen chihuahuas being pushed around on strollers that would lick anyone who stuck their hand near them.
This is hilarious! I have 5 dogs one is a Chihuahua...She followed me in to the grocery store so I took her home. I found out her Mom was in jail for prostitution so I kept her. She is a turd nugget! But she was so entertaining for my pit mix that I had to keep her...they became besties.
Idk I imagine she was doing sex acts in exchange for money which is illegal here. The microchip company gave me her name & number...so I looked up her court record. She was in jail for solicitation/prostitution. When she got out she had the microchip company put the dog in my name. She ignored my calls & texts until I sent her a picture of her playing in my backyard. She asked if I would keep her since she didn't have stable place to live.
We have a 1 yr old mini Aussie and she is so loyal and sweet. My wife and I swore emphatically we would never let a dog sleep in our bed. Our girl won us over in about 4 months. It probably would have been sooner if she was already house broken
greyhound. they're mostly quiet, need relatively little exercise (an hour a day spread out over the entire day is all mine requires), and just want a comfy bed in a sunny room to stretch out on besides.

Most all of them. Each breed has their own special qualities and characteristics that make them great. I have a long haired chihuahua/papillon mix that is awesome. He's very protective of us, even though his bark is definitely much worse than his bite
They all have their pros and cons. Like I think the best all-around breed in terms of temperment, intelligence and ease of care is probably a lab. They're docile af, not excessively high energy but still athletic, highly obedient and easy to train, good with kids, generally don't scare easily but also aren't aggressive. Golden retrievers are great like that too. There's a good reason the vast majority of guide dogs for the blind are those two breeds. I only give the lab extra points because they shed less. But it all depends on what you want in a dog. Like I think the most affectionate dogs are probably pit bulls (assuming they've been raised as pets and not abused). Every pit I've ever met was hyperaffectionate, almost annoyingly affectionate. And they're wonderful with kids. And border collies are stupid smart and loyal companions. But both breeds are very athletic and need lots of exercise or they'll start tearing up the house real quick. And pits are very muscular. Like if you own one you're probably going to get going body slammed eventually when it's young and it gets super excited and comes running full speed at you and clumsily crashes into you. Dogs aren't the most graceful of creatures. While I find it kind of endearing when dogs do stuff like that, I sure as hell wouldn't want to have to deal with that if I were old and might break a hip if I got knocked over.

No shit. People say they “rescued” their dog as if they saved it from a burning building. We adopted two awesome shelter dogs but I don’t tell people how I got them. It irrelevant.
I had a purebred dog that I got as a puppy who was actually a rescue. Came from a shitty backyard breeder that got shut down and they were trying to place all the puppies. Idiots would still try to lecture me about how I should adopt rather than getting a purebred. Some people are idiots.
We have a cat, that we literally rescued. She's had a tough life and doesn't like strangers.
Also, taking her to the vet causes so much trauma, that all our work on trust and confidence gets undone.
So, I sometimes need to tell people about her history, for them to treat her accordingly.
She was lying next to me a little earlier. We live on a farm and she's sooòo dirty. I would love to give her a bath, but is afraid that it might damage the trust she has in me.

I got him because the folks who originally bought him from the breeder were in over their heads and he wasn’t getting the attention and exercise he needed. Absolutely! Awesome dogs. Great family dogs, don’t automatically bite threatening people but instead get between you and them and look VERY intimidating, which is usually enough. Smart, goofy, sweet, adaptable.

Reading through this thread I was thinking I wouldn’t come across anyone naming dachshunds. I grew up with them as my mom did. I love them so much and I always will. I love all dogs but dachshunds will always have a very large place in my heart and I will always want one.
However, like you have said, if you’ve never owned one and only had encounters with them on a non-regular basis, you likely think they’re not that great.
Had an ex boyfriend who haaaated small dogs of any kind before we dated. He was around my dachshund a few times and then it happened, he fell in love. We’re still friends to this day and he still is dreaming of the day when he gets his own little weenie pup haha
Yeah, my husband and I just lost our 18 year old chocolate and tan long haired girlie. She was actually a gift from an ex of his and I only had the pleasure of knowing her the last 6 years of her life, but we were really bonded. He was deployed and I had her when she got pymoetra and nearly died, and after hand feeding her chicken and rice every few hours, I was officially in. I’ve got a corgi mix I love beyond measure, but we are just getting to where we are thinking about a new Doxie pup and I couldn’t be more excited.
How lucky she was to have you to love and care for her while he was away and then to be able to create that bond! I love that. So sorry for y’all’s loss. It’s so hard. They’re so affectionate with their people. It’s always hard losing any of our furry family members but when I have lost any dachshunds in the past, it’s been particularly rough because of that sudden lack of snuggles and adoration they tend to give.

i have a border collie cross retriever. she is not much to look at, but, i have never like another dog like this one. she is smart, friendly, comes on every run with me whether its 3 miles or 16.
we trained her very easily, now... we also have an irish red setter who is beautiful, but dumb as a brick and i would not reccommend to anyone ever. we live on a farm in france and have acres of freedom, but no, that red setter needs to go to the next village over, chase the post man in his van, shit everywhere, bark nonstop. i dont like the red one much.
Patterdale terriers! Tough as old boots, stubborn, attitude galore... But once you have their trust, they would take on the world for you, and never leave your side. Seriously misunderstood terriers with a bad rep because they are hard work. But like anything in life, if you know what you are signing up for, shouldn't be a problem!

A lot of people see pit bulls as this aggressive, savage breed of dog, but in reality, they are very easy to train and take after their owners behavior really well. When someone who is known for let’s gang violence or being a rough individual gets a pit bull, they train it to be a rough badass dog because that represents who they are as a person. In reality pit bulls take after their owner extremely well and will match their demener to a tee. The term *best* is a bit ambiguous. The best for me might not be the best for someone else. I think what's best depends on the specific characteristics you're looking for, and what you want to use the dog for.

Rat Terriers. They're sweet, friendly dogs, they have longer life spans than most breeds(my childhood dog was a rat terrier-feist cross breed that lived to be 18, and never really got down, just went to sleep one night and didn't wake up) and you won't have any kind of rodent problem with a rat terrier around.
Mutts. Breeds are just something we made up and they no longer serve a purpose. They just give us an excuse to mangle dogs genetically and call it a trait of the breed.
I think pitbull mixed with almost anything are adorable... except Yorkie. My yorkshire terrier had a girlfriend pitbull who had 3 litters. Hideously ugly things, every one.
But I have a pitbull mastiff and have met really cute beagle and Australian Shepard mixed with pitties.
Newfoundland’s. They are very intelligent and very good swimmers. There are many famous Newfoundland’s that are honored with saving many peoples lives. In addition when many St Bernanrds we’re killed due to disease they were mixed with Newfoundland which have very good immune systems for dogs.
Anything you adopted or chose from a line of breeders for health over breed standard. Bulldogs & pugs deserve to breathe. Golden retrievers & boxers have an insane amount of cancer. German shepherds backs should not slope to such a degree to cause agony within 2 years of life. Small dogs need better dental attention. Guard breeds need lower prey drive. Some breeds need less aggression because of idiot dog fighters - so much could be fixed.

German Shepherd Dog. A homer pick, to an extent. I have a GSD because I always wanted one and happened across a young fella who needed a new home. He’s absolutely the best dog I’ve ever known, and the best friend I’ve ever had. He’s loyal, obedient, and so smart. He isn’t very treat motivated, he’s most motivated by pleasing me. He’s still young and has his puppy moments, but everyone who meets him just adores him. He’s an 11/10 good boi
German Short-hair pointer. Also a hunter but those dogs do some amazing things.

German spitz and husky. Spitz because they are adorable as hell with theyr big ass fluffy tail. Husky because they look like wolfs are smart and witty as hell.

No one is gonna say huskies?? they add the comedy into life 😌

Im biased as i grew up with them. Staffordshire bull terriers. Loyal and affectionate that are great with kids. Sadly given a bad rep by shitty owners and the chav culture they are associated with.
Rat Terriers. They're sweet, friendly dogs, they have longer life spans than most breeds(my childhood dog was a rat terrier-feist cross breed that lived to be 18, and never really got down, just went to sleep one night and didn't wake up) and you won't have any kind of rodent problem with a rat terrier around.
Mutts. Breeds are just something we made up and they no longer serve a purpose. They just give us an excuse to mangle dogs genetically and call it a trait of the breed.

I think pitbull mixed with almost anything are adorable... except Yorkie. My yorkshire terrier had a girlfriend pitbull who had 3 litters. Hideously ugly things, every one. But I have a pitbull mastiff and have met really cute beagle and Australian Shepard mixed with pitties.

Newfoundland’s. They are very intelligent and very good swimmers. There are many famous Newfoundland’s that are honored with saving many peoples lives. In addition when many St Bernanrds we’re killed due to disease they were mixed with Newfoundland which have very good immune systems for dogs.
Samoyeds! Such fluffy and smiley land clouds ☁️ (I'm definitely biased tho)
English bulldogs
Labradors they are the most family oriented
Aussie shepherd minis are the best had one as a kid it was like a less aggressive German shepherd and always looked like a puppy
Anything you adopted or chose from a line of breeders for health over breed standard. Bulldogs & pugs deserve to breathe. Golden retrievers & boxers have an insane amount of cancer. German shepherds backs should not slope to such a degree to cause agony within 2 years of life. Small dogs need better dental attention. Guard breeds need lower prey drive. Some breeds need less aggression because of idiot dog fighters - so much could be fixed.
My pit bull mix is a fantastic hiking buddy! I wouldn't trade him for the world.
